I came here based on my family member's recommendation - she raved about the candied apples so I purchased one, it was a Butterfinger apple, which was delicious. I was hesitant to indulge because I thought it would be too sweet but the pairing of the Granny Smith apple with the butterfinger flavor was well balanced... overall I had a good experience. The two employees were both very nice and helpful. They had a steady stream of customers while I was making my choices, and were quick to assist each of them. WARNING TO CUSTOMERS: For the 3rd visit in a row over multiple months, I've been overcharged for my purchases with employees ringing up different products that what I actually purchased. This was done with their apples, the weight of chocolates and pre-bagged chocolates. Each on a different visit. All by different employees. They also don't automatically give you a receipt. We stopped in because we were in the same plaza and were looking for dark chocolate espresso beans which sadly they did not have. Service was not overly friendly ...or quick. We ended up ordering the irish cream cappuccino which was nothing special and some nutter butter chocolates. The Inside is pretty welcoming and they have a lot of different things for sale such as candied apples and a vast selection of chocolates including sugar free. Im writing this email because I was visiting from flint mi. We landed in Charlotte Airport which was so very nice and clean. As walking to our pick up we came across your store. The lady was very initiating telling us of the different selections. Customer service was great. Today 14th of July headed back we beeline to the store, wanted to get a red velvet apple, and butterscotch morsels just was really good. We walk in and was discussing what we were going to get. The young shouted out from behind register "do yall want something" me and my bestie looked at one another and said, "wow! Just looking" he then said."perfect" we walked out. Told the worker, Hunter, what I wanted it and he just look at me and said he doesn't know? I asked him what do you mean? Told him again what I wanted and he acted he didn't understand. So I thought he was having a hard time hearing and I asked if he can't hear me. He proceeded to call me rude. So I left the store. People are super nice, quaint little shop. Chocolate is just bad in my opinion. Truffle shells are like armor to break through, zero decadence that you look for in chocolate. I tried a variety of sweets including clusters, bark etc. Its basically 80% sugar that looks like chocolate. Cavity or diabetes is imminent. Had high hopes and was extremely disappointed. I would give it a 1 start but the people there were really great and I am sure there are people who say they like it because they are just addicted to sugar, but I wouldn't purchase any dessert here as is. Hot chocolate powder was maybe better than Nesquick. Best I can say. Hopefully they can adjust the recipes to use less sugar and more cacao and/or milk to appreciate the actual chocolate they use. I wanted a sweet treat for myself and they have everything from chocolate covered marshmallows with dark chocolate and milk chocolate options to candy apples and truffles. The marshmallow dark chocolate candy was amazing and rich! I loved it and wish I had two. They sell all sorts of truffles, chocolate dipped treats and bars of Chocolate! Great service and easy to park location in Matthews! They're off Trade Street by the Loyalist market. I also sampled their mint chocolate chip ice cream. I love this place! I can't believe I forgot all about it. I was out in Matthews, headed to try a sushi restaurant, when I saw the plaza this shop is located in, and remembered how I used to try stop myself from going in all of the time and buying myself some sweets. It was already dark, so as I drove by I'm thinking it's already closed. Then I spot the neon "Open" sign. Hallelujah! My friend whipped the car around, and in we went. I chose the yummy chocolate fudge brownie, pecan clusters (similar to turtles, I guess? But there was no caramel inside, to my daughter's chagrin), a unicorn bark, and some chocolate dipped Peeps for the Easter holiday. If you're like me, and prefer a moist fudge brownie, this place has it! Generally I stay away because most places have the dry, hard types. Not here. It was very clean, neat and organized. The location at the mall is small, tight and crammed with people. This is the best location I have been too. Joey was the one who was working there. He greeted me right as I walked in and was very patient with me. I took a long time to figure out what apples to get! There were so many choices! Joey was super friendly. Great guy for the job. Bought 15 chocolate covered strawberries the other day, and they were moldy within 48 hours in the fridge. I was not told by the staff to eat them within that time frame. They were probably bad before i even bought them. i called and asked if they could be replaced. Didnt want a refund or anything, just wanted my moneys worth since it costed me $50 for them... and the manager called the owner who said "sorry we cannot replace them". Would give this 3.5!!! It is exactly what you'd expect from every Rocky Mountain chocolate factory... You walk but and the smell is irresistible so you have to stop and look, then you HAVE to go inside! Then they tell you to sample then you're hooked in and have started down a path of no return that ends with you on the couch feeling guilty amongst a mass genocide of candy and fudge wrappers.... And wallet 30$ lighter... But then the euphoria of how damn good the chocolate was how much fun you have and your pledge to start at the gym next week makes everything completely worth it... RECAP: chocolate tastes awesome, fudge is awesome, variety is endless, slightly pricey, totally worth it... They are now part coffee shop and open at 6am... They are pouring brews from local coffee-teers smelly Cat coffee which is really cool since they are not a local brand but choose to support local biz. Kim Henderson, owner of Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory in Matthews, terminated my daughter over voice mail Fri. Jan. 29 because my daughter very respectfully asked a patron to wear a mask. The patron, who goes by "Ike the Terrible", immediately became enraged, flipped both middle fingers at my daughter and said, "F@#$ You! I'm personal friends with the owner and I'll have you fired!" Remember, my daughter simply asked him to put on a mask. He continued yelling and started to leave and when he got to the door, he turned around again, flipped both middle fingers again and said F@#$ You and go to hell!" I know this because my wife and I were there having coffee when this happened. Kim Henderson said on her voice mail to my daughter that Ike is a personal friend and goes to the same church. Obviously, different rules.......Additionally, there were multiple people there to witness this including the other employee who didn't have the back bone to tell the truth when asked to corroborate what happened. If you, as a consumer, want to patronize businesses that respect their employees and have the courage to stand up to ignorant people like Ike, then think twice before you patronize RMCF-Matthews. read more

I purchased some ice cream from this store and got deeply sick. I threw up at least 5 times and I am positive I contracted food poisoning. I almost rushed myself to Urgent Care I was so sick! They have all the carnival usuals like crazy flavored candy coated apples, fudge/bark, rice crispy treats, double chocolate dipped oreos, etc. They also have a decent variety of truffles. My favorite was the Amaretto and irish cream. The espresso one didn't have much flavor which is shocking and the raspberry cream one was pretty nasty. I also tried their chocolate covered salted caramel bar. Pretty good--needs a little more salt though! I recently tried their mint chocolate and it was okay as well. The chocolate covered pretzel was a little stale and not salty enough but it was ok. I think you see the overall theme here..."OK"....everything is okay and some things are a little better than ok. What wasn't "ok" was the cost! Geez! They aren't Godiva! But they were pricey! I'm sure it is normal or even cheap compared to all the "real" chocolatiers out there but $2.50 for a bite of chocolate is hard to stomach. Oh by the way, the chocolate covered strawberries LOOKED divine. They also offer several sugar free options. Visited for the first time a few days ago. I ordered a chocolate chunk cookie & a fudge brownie. I sat in my vehicle & immediately opened the cookie because I was excited to try a new place. Bit into it & tasted peanut butter! I immediately discarded it from my mouth, went back into the shop & asked the young gentleman if the cookie was made w/ peanut butter. He replied, " Yes, it is the Reese cup cookie." I explained to him that I'm allergic to peanut butter, I couldn't eat the cookie & I didn't order that particular cookie. I gave it back to him. He apologized & gave me the correct cookie. I waited until I got home to taste it & the brownie. The cookie was hard around the edges. (Didn't seem fresh) The brownie was just ok. I must say, I'm disappointed to be trying this place for the first time & to get this result. I may try them in the future & maybe it'll be better. I understand that mistakes happen.
