My son and I love this local bakery! It is our go to for a weekly treat on a Friday after school and work. Their iced coffee and hot chocolate are both amazing. So good and at a fantastic price. My son loves their cupcakes and I really enjoy their coconut surprise cookies with buttercream icing. The staff is so friendly and the atmosphere is welcoming. My daughter brought home some cupcakes. I had the double chocolate cupcake. The cake was very moist and frosting was very creamy. An average cupcake flavor not overbearingly chocolatey but is a bit too subtle. This place is closer than the one I favor in Uptown, so I will have to come visit for myself. Little quaint, colorful building, glass display cases that show off cupcakes and other goodies that even won over my keeping-the-fat-guy-in-check mentality. And what I ate were very good and the offerings were different than chocolate, vanilla and both. Coffees made to order and the blend was rich, full and flavorful. A ladies' place, but a guy will not be emasculated upon entry, at least not so far. Outdoor seating and private parking. Cozy. Weekly changing soups and quiches. Was tempted to buy more. They always have a variety of cupcakes, slices of cakes, cookies, and various bars. I love getting there day old stuff because it is still wonderful and sold at low low prices. They also have various coffee drinks and other hot and cold beverages. They are easy to get to and have parking lot right in front. I have to say, I have found a nice little gem of a bakery in the square of Mint Hill. There are a couple of bakeries within a block of each other, but this bakery is the best by far. They sell cake balls, cupcakes, cookies, pound cake, cinnamon rolls, muffins, etc. Their cupcakes are out of this world. The cake is moist, the icing wonderful - it is like being a kid again when you bite into their cupcakes. Of course they create birthday and wedding cakes too! I had an opportunity to spend time with the folks that run this bakery. They are awesome people and more importantly, they are using their grandmother's recipes for EVERYTHING!!!! I like Daphne's, especially since they moved to the new location right next to the Mint Hill historic village / farmers' market. Everything I've had there was pretty tasty, but I lament that my very favorite thing there ever, the three citrus muffin, seems to be around but hard to find - I only saw them there once even though they say they regularly make them. Beside muffins, the make pretty cupcakes, great cheese biscuits, pies and cakes. They also seem to sell their day-old baked things for cheaper - might be a great opportunity! They do have more space now than in their old location, but it doesn't strike me as a place I want to hang out at. All the more fun it will be when the farmers' market comes back in the spring - eating lovely baked goods while browsing the market or sitting in the swing in the historic village. read more

Great cupcakes. The icing is homemade and seems to be a buttermilk base which makes them all the more delicious. The truffles are "ok" but probably nothing I'd ever really go after again. I even tried one of their chocolate pies with a light cream cheese icing and it was pretty damn good as well. They sell "yesterdays" items for cheap (cupcakes for 1$) and it usually is just as good as the daily made items. All of that being said, I'd recommend at least stopping in there if you are in the area and trying out a cupcake. The red velvet ones are delicious. read more

Not a fan...after having eaten here twice, trying various food & bakery items I have been very "underwhelmed". The food, chicken 'n' dumplings & chicken pot pie, was very bland--I don't think there was so much as salt or pepper in either (much less anything else). The chicken 'n' dumplings were so watery I was tempted to ask for a straw. However, the pot pie had the opposite problem. The pie was extremely dry (no sauce or gravy filling) & for a "chicken" pot pie I was left wanting--chicken! There were maybe 3 small bits of chicken & an entire pie of (frozen, not fresh) veggies. As for the baked goods--the verdict is pretty much the same--dry, dense, disappointing. I tried the keylime & chocolate pies on my 1st visit & took a variety of cupcakes home with me as well. The pie crusts were dry & flavorless--I've had better pies come from the frozen section of tr grocery store :( The cupcakes were dry & had the consistency of cornbread--even my little one wouldn't eat more than the sprinkles off hers after having a taste of the "cake". Needless to say, I shall not be returning to see if a third time really is the charm. read more

Love Daphne's for baked goodies (amazing cakes!) but quite disappointed in their food. Today I tried baked potato soup after rave reviews by a co-worker. Well, she threw hers in the trash and mine is sitting in the 'fridge here at work, so that I can bring bacon bits, sour cream and cheese to add tomorrow--so that it will be real 'baked potato soup' -- not just redskin potatoes boiled & simmered in a milky (not thickened) broth. I called the restaurant and voiced my opinion, which was heard and I received some sympathy, but nothing to back up the fact that the soup was less than it should have been (especially for the $$$). What happened to the good ole' days when merchants stood behind their product and at least offered a replacement? I dunno, but I sure think that would have been a good idea. I will probably never do business here again. :( read more

The cupcakes are the best item they sell. I agree with others that stated the service is not great except for one friendly girl. Daphne usually looks pissed off or overwhelmed. For proclaiming to be a southern bakery it lacks all of the southern charm you would expect. Only the cupcakes keep bringing me back, not the service. read more
