We purchased three dogs from RMGS. Our first dog lived to 14 years. She was a working line, dominate female, loads of drive with very high energy. Had we allowed this dog to run the house she would have (she tried). If you have never had a working line GSD do your research. Check youtube "German shepherd man working lines" and watch the first several videos AND read "The Total German Shepherd Dog in Word and Picture" by Max von Stephanitz (for more concise details than the videos). If you can't run your working line GSD a few times a day consider a Cairn Terrier or perhaps a non-working line GSD. Our next two GSD's are also from RMGS. A two year old 100lb eastern European working line GSD and a western working line puppy. Jayne helped us over email with a resource protection issue with our big dude and we were able to eliminate it. When in high play mode he can be assertive but is no longer aggressive. If you can't be firm (dominate your GSD) this isn't the breed for you. We take our big dude everywhere and he's great with other dogs, people and crowds. We have been socializing our 10 week old puppy and so far no issues. read more

I purchased a $3,200 German Shepherd puppy from Jayne, owner of Rocky Mountain German Shepherds, and the experience has been deeply disappointing, stressful, and costly. Jayne assured me the puppy had been examined by her veterinarian and that I would receive documentation confirming German-bred, titled parents. 11 weeks later, I have received nothing. Although I noticed significant negative reviews before purchasing, I chose to give the breeder the benefit of the doubt. Unfortunately, purchasing from this breeder proved to be the worst decision I could have made for myself and my puppy's health. My experience confirmed many of those same concerns. When I brought the puppy home on 9/18/25, she already had persistent loose stools. That same evening, I emailed Jayne to report (four) very loose stools, request guidance, and share my veterinarian's instructions. My veterinarian of 30 years--at one of Golden's oldest and most reputable hospitals--examined her the next day and immediately found her underweight. An in-house fecal test confirmed Coccidia, and a second lab test identified Giardia. These infections required urgent, prolonged treatment; untreated, they could have been fatal. In over 30 years of owning German Shepherds from reputable breeders, I had never even heard of Coccidia, let alone experienced anything like this. Giardia required multiple rounds of medication, plus an antibiotic, to resolve. Despite my same-day email and immediate notification, Jayne did not respond, offer guidance, acknowledge the health issues, provide assistance or even the potential for reimbursement for the substantial medical and other expenses that followed. The failure to acknowledge serious pre-existing health issues, provide documentation, or respond responsibly was disgusting to experience as a buyer who trusted this kennel. Her only subsequent contact was two brief emails asking, "How is [Puppy's Name] doing - verbatim" Concerned for the puppy's health and deeply frustrated by the atrocious lack of support, I did not respond. Over nearly two months, I administered multiple rounds of medication, purchased 1,000 exam gloves, sanitized all surfaces daily to prevent reinfection, discarded contaminated supplies and infected toys. In my experience, no breeder I have dealt with in 30+ years has required anything like this level of effort to restore a puppy's health. The lack of transparency, unfulfilled promises of documentation, and failure to address serious pre-existing health issues raise serious concerns about this kennel's breeding and veterinary practices. Assurances regarding health checks, responsible care, and proper paperwork were not reliable. This experience has been emotionally exhausting, financially burdensome, and entirely avoidable. Puppies deserve responsible breeders who prioritize their health, and buyers deserve honesty, professionalism, and support--none of which I received here. read more

Breeder does not pick up phone and is really difficult to communicate with. For the price they're asking for their puppies, I expect to be able to visit to several times before pickup which is impossible given that they don't respond to emails or phone calls. I feel like they may also have been lying to my face about the energy level of their puppies - the ONE time I was able to get a hold of these people (by just showing up at their facility), they said their german shepherds weren't necessarily 'high energy' and if I wanted a couch potato dog, their dogs would still be a good fit. I have a really hard believing that. When I left a bad review on Google reviews, this breeder finally responded to my emails threatening me with legal action!!! The dogs are really cute but when you're making a life changing purchase like a puppy, it's impossible to work with a breeder who doesn't respond to any form of communication. I ended up getting a puppy from a different breeder who was far more communicative and easy to schedule visits and pick up with. read more

We bought our puppy in July of 2022. A couple days after we brought her home she developed a rash all over her belly. We did call Jane and she told us it's common. Vet gave us cream to clear it up. She got sick a couple more times in the next two weeks. Jane's response was "bring it back and get another one". This is our 10 year olds pup. We can't just bring it back for a new one. We asked for a low drive family dog, our dog is completely opposite. She is as high drive as they get. Jane is very lax at retuning phone calls and e-mails. We waited months and months for our AKC paperwork. She kept telling us she was waiting for it. My wife actually got the media involved. The media called Jane and within two days we received our paperwork. When we posted negative reviews on her Facebook page our comments were removed and we were blocked. If your thinking of buying a dog here be careful. Take note she only OPEN certain days and times. Is that so they can stage and only let you see what they want you to see? We got our 10 month old gsd at 8 weeks from RMGS and she is the best dog we could ask for. She is definitely an alpha as we're both her parents. But we socialized her lots and she is great with other dogs and LOVES kids. She is loyal, protective, and a wonderful guard dog even at such a young age. Definitely needs lots of exercise which goes for all German shepherds but she loves to work and hang out with her people. On my second GSD from RMGS. I got my first GSD from Jayne about 13 years ago. My first GSD had mild hip dysplasia, but was a wonderful dog. Jayne was easy to work with, attentive, and responsive to questions and emails. I got my second GSD from Jayne about 2 years ago. My second GSD from RMGS is a mess. Jayne is largely unresponsive to emails, responding to approximately 1 out 4 email queries. She has never called me on the phone despite my having left several messages for her. What is going on with my second GSD? 1) 2 years old and moderate hip dysplasia. 2) Floppy ears. I emailed and called Jayne many times about this, and received a single unhelpful response. 3) Dog aggression. Despite a large amount of socialization and months of in-home training, our dog cannot be around other dogs. 4) No AKC papers. Jayne repeated told me that the papers were on their way and she would mail them when she got them and that I was not to "bug her" about them. 2 years in and no papers. RMGS used to be a fantastic place to get a GSD. Now? Not so much. If you are looking to get a GSD, I think you can do better than here. read more

My wife and I arranged a meeting with Jayne and Tyler late winter this year. We were shown a number of kennels with mostly adult dogs. The enclosures were clean, the dogs were socialized and calm enough for the two little girls in our group to reach in and pet them. I was impressed with the quality of their dogs and on many levels. Their welping kennels were very clean and the mothers were very calm. Jayne and Tyler were professional, answered questions expertly and were courteous. My wife and I were looking for a pup we could purchase in the Spring but noticed a beautiful and lively year and a half old long haired someone had returned to RMGS due to their conflicting work schedule. We bought the dog that day. Tyler already had him obedience trained and this was a great choice for us. Our new dog is 100% socialized and is calm around other dogs, cats, chickens and even children. I am actually surprised from all these bad reviews. Seriously one of the most cleanest and professional establishments to train and breed German shepherds. We coordinated with Jayne through email (preferred way to contact them) to meet at a certain time and when we arrived she greeted us at the front door. She toured us around to meet all the females and studs. All the dogs have amazing temperaments and none of them bark when they see you approach them. Jayne has 30 years of experience in training and selecting top notch German shepherd imports from Poland, Germany and Czech. All dogs she will tell you are bred to protect you but are extremely social and perfect for families. The establishment is in Conifer, CO and is wide open for the dogs to play. Really clean and doesn't smell like a kennel at all! She has all her dogs organized and keeps the females and puppies separate from the males so they can nurse them in a good environment. She has a play room where you can play with the puppies! You might think they are expensive but from my experience with German shepherds you will get what you pay for. Great experience! Jayne and staff were great to work with! On our first visit, Sam gave us a complete tour of the facility. Took us around to meet the sires and dams. Both Sam and Jayne inquired into our home environment, activity level, other pets and made recommendations as to what we should be looking for. Jayne took the time to explain German working lines vs. American lines. Once we placed a deposit, she let us spend a ton of time on multiple visits getting to know the puppies prior to selection. We have had our pup for four weeks now, every day this high drive puppy gains more and more energy and size. Today at his last parvo booster he got a clean bill of health and weighed over 16 lbs. While walking our pup, our neighbors struck up a conversation. We found their daughter had also gotten their Shepherd from Jayne and the puppy had later gone through Jayne's thirty day board and train program. As the occasional caretakers of the dog, my neighbors gushed at the positive transformation their daughter's dog had coming back from training. They said they were very impressed, they plan on enrolling the dog again when they go on their next vacation. In our puppy's first puppy socialization class the instructors complimented his temperament. So far we have been thrilled with our experience with Rocky Mountain German Shepherds. We got our 2 year old girl from RMGS at 8 weeks old and then we just got her little brother a few weeks ago at 11 weeks old. They are the very best of friends already. My girl has the sweetest temperament - she's always just known to be extra gentle with babies and toddlers, she greets all of the guests to our home with love, she protects the yard, and she's the best jogging buddy ever. In fact, she was even in our wedding. We just knew that she'd do well with her new best friend puppy brother. Since our girl is so gorgeous - the most beautiful coat, temperament and intelligence - we knew that we'd go back to RMGS or our 2nd dog. We sent Lily for the 5 week board and train to correct some of her behaviors and help her to be more confident. As a first time dog owner, raising my first puppy, I was learning as I went. Putting Lily into training was one of the best and most responsible things that we could have done for our relationship. She no longer has selective recall, she's not reactive on leash, she stays in place for 30+ minutes, and she sees us more as leader because we learned so much in the post-training tutorial that we received. She's tested us since we got home and we've been tested with neighbor dogs coming into the yard and her actually being able to "leave it," or going running with her on leash and having a dog chase us but her not reacting at all. This investment was well worth it and it's only going to pay off more as our continued commitment to the post-training work at home will continue. I have referred several people to this breeder who are looking to get a new pup in the future. It's clean, Jayne is responsive and they spent many hours with me making sure that I knew how to train my dog moving forward and to be sure that I picked out the right puppy. We did have a small, unfortunate issue where the puppy that I was originally supposed to receive did not pan out, but Jayne helped me to make sure that I chose the right dog and we came to a very comfortable agreement that I feel good about. It turns out that the puppy we received in place of the original dog is the best possible match for our high-energy girl. He always has slept through the night from the very first day that he got home, and he just fits in so well with our pack that I can't imagine how we ever lived without him. When we found out one of the trained pups that was spoken for was available and the people decided to get a fully trained adult because it suited their life style better. She brought him out too. My experience with Rocky Mountain German Shepherds was not just terrible, it was tragic. In August, 2010 I purchased a Pink Paper German Shepherd puppy from Jayne Gervase-Edwards, who runs the business. About nine months later my dog, named Rothko, was dead of congenital heart disease. I spent thousands of dollars with vet specialists trying to give Rothko the longest and best life possible, but the disease with which he was born was too severe. After Rothko's death Ms. Gervase-Edwards was contacted with a request for a refund, but she was non-responsive. On being pressed to respond, Ms. Gervase-Edwards insisted that Rothko was healthy when I bought him and that his disease could have been caused by unspecified "environmental factors." Her response is in direct contradiction to established veterinary science and the vet cardiologist's diagnosis of congenital disease. Citing the letter of the contract, Ms. Gervase-Edwards refused a refund, insisting that she "breeds very healthy dogs" and is a "reputable breeder." Eventually she did offered a replacement puppy, but this did not mean I would have the same free choice from all puppies that a new buyer would have. Instead I would have only the choice of "certain pups" that she would decide to make available to me. Over the years I have worked with four different professional breeders, and my experience with Rocky Mountain German Shepherds was by far the worst. Based on my experience I would not recommend that anyone purchase a dog from Rocky Mountain German Shepherds. read more

I have tried to contact Jayne Edwards MULTIPLE times and she keeps blowing me off. I've been trying to get information to put down a deposit and she won't get me the information. I'm the customer and I should be a priority right?? Apparently not. I was incredibly serious about putting a down payment on a puppy for a little that won't even be bred until May, but I will be looking elsewhere now. We can not say enough about Jayne and her program! Her facility is top notch and always clean. Jayne is very respectful but will tell you what you need to know to be successful. We bought an absolutely stunning german shepherd named Ruger from her in April and decided we wanted to train him on our own instead of drop him off at her 30 day board and train because who can give up their best friend for 30 days?! Big mistake. We worked with a different trainer for 4 months who made him worse to the point where we were unable to take him anywhere due to his severe protectiveness of his family and house. We called Jayne and told her what was going on and she took him for 3 days and he came back a completely different dog. We can now walk him anywhere and he is the most well behaved dog there. We were so impressed with the difference she made in 3 days that we will be dropping Ruger off later this month for the full 30 day obedience course with Jayne and her team, and could not be taking him to a better place. I'm very sad to see the negative reviews on this website. I'd like to report that my experience with RMGS has been very positive. In doing research for GSDs in the Denver area, RMGS was by far the best-run professional breeder I found in the area. As I was comparing breeders, I read reviews of RMGS that it was a "Puppy Mill", and general criticisms that she breeds too many puppies. It is true that she generally has a couple of litters available at any time, but I was on a waiting list for ~6 months for a puppy. I can tell you from personal experience that she is simply keeping up with demand. Her kennels are clean and large, her dogs are clean, friendly, well-trained, well-fed and cared for. She does produce quite a few puppies, but she always has buyers lined up for them. I'm sorry to hear people have had poor experiences with RMGS, but remember that satisfied customers rarely post on review websites. My import puppy has been an absolute joy. At 15 months, he's healthy, happy, well behaved, obedient and gentle. I take him into any establishment that will allow dogs with me, and he is constantly complimented on his looks and demeanor. I would (and have) recommended RMGS to anyone at all who is interested in a new puppy. I am, unfortunately, in the minority on this website, so I'd urge you to look for yourself. She's only ~40 minutes away from Denver - and well worth the trip to decide for yourself. I doubt you'll be disappointed. All good things! We had an excellent experience dealing with Rocky Mountain GSD. From the first visit to meet the parents of our future puppy, to the additional visits we made to check on the pups progress as he grew, the puppy selection process, and finally picking him up at 11 weeks old and taking him home, I always found the kennel to be professionally run, VERY clean, and all of the dogs to be healthy and well adjusted. We've now had Kato a little over two weeks, and he's growing into a wonderful dog - healthy, happy, and gorgeous! He plays great with our other dog, and is taking to his training like a champ. We researched several breeders in the area before selecting Rocky Mountain GSD, and we are very happy with our decision - our new pup Kato is fabulous! It was great that both of his parents were onsite, and we were able to meet them, and I personally really appreciated the level of cleanliness, especially compared to some of the other breeders we visited. We have had multiple and recent experiences with Rocky Mountain German Shepherds and related to two different dogs. Our daughter and her fiancé took their American GSD 6-month old puppy to RMGS for initial training which lasted for 30 days. We were more than impressed with the work done with "Ralphie Mae" (yes, they are both CU grads!). Ralphie returned home a more loving dog, a better-behaved dog and a more social dog. She has returned a second time for boarding and more training and again returned more focused and mature in her response to commands. On all occasions we have accompanied our daughter and future son-in-law to RMGS and from our first visit, we were extremely impressed with how clean the facility is and the level of care that we see in maintaining the indoor kennels and the large outdoor enclosures. My husband's family is from Germany and he grew up with German GSD's and based on his first visit, he put RMGS at the top of his consideration list. He subsequently made many visits to Conifer to review the facility, interact and learn more from Jane and the staff and of course, spend time with the dogs on site. He reviewed the blood lines of the dogs bred on site, the breed lines of the import dogs and he spent a great deal of time studying the potential sires and dames until he finally found the specific pair that he was interested in. He put his name on a list and asked that he be called when that possibility was available. It did take about ten months but eventually he received a call from RMGS indicating that his desired pairing was scheduled for breeding. Atticus, our new German GSD (and yes, named for the famous character from "To Kill A Mockingbird"), is a perfect plush coat and exactly what my husband hoped for and waited patiently to receive. Through this process, we made many, many visits to RMGS and not once were we disappointed in the level of care taken with the dogs or the quality of the facility. I kept thinking with every visit that this would be the day I would smell the "stink" that you find anytime you have multiple dogs in one general vicinity and even when they are large spaces - like your typical dog park. But it never happened -- not once. That alone kept me coming back for subsequent visits. If I had detected a lack of care in the facilities, I would have also assumed a lack of care for the dogs but my experience indicated exactly the opposite. A high level of care for the environment equals a high level of care for the dogs. We had only one minor challenge in working with RMGS and that is that they can sometimes be hard to reach but we also understood that they spend most of their time taking care of their dogs, educating their customers and most obviously, cleaning the kennels and the facility. Which means on occasion you may wait a bit for a call back but I'd always rather they put the dogs and the facility first so that is a rather minor concern. Adorable Atticus is not yet old enough for training but when he is, we will most definitely be returning to RMGS. Our extensive experience with both he and sweet Ralphie Mae have convinced us that they are the Rocky Mountain region's leading GSD breeder and expert. read more

We have worked with Jayne 10 years ago and received a wonderful GSD! Last July, after this dog passed away, it was time to get a new puppy. We specifically requested a wonderfully tempered animal - as I have a special needs child - and that is what Jayne supposedly specializes in. Instead, we received a highly dominant female with major dog aggression issues. When this now, 7mo female, bit deeply into my wife's arm and mauled our other dog, we had to long term board her with the hope this can be trained out of her and give the dog away. We tried to discuss this with Jayne and no reply. We never received her AKC papers. Numerous attempts to get the AKC papers go unanswered. STAY AWAY FROM THIS BREEDER! read more

I was not impressed with the owner's work ethic or business practices. She was not very responsive while we were going through the selection and buying process, and when we showed up to pick up our puppy at the scheduled time, we knocked and called multiple times with no response, then eventually left and came back. When she answered the door, she told us she had fallen asleep - no apology. What should have been a very exciting time for my family was instead kind of dreary because of the owner's "take it or leave it" attitude throughout the process. I realize a breeder cannot completely guarantee the temperament of the dogs she or he sells. However, the dog I purchased from RMGS has fallen WAY short of the breeders claim of "Superior temperament, beautiful conformation, excellent health, and high levels of trainability." After two years, 16 sessions with two different professional trainers, and several trips to the vet for our other dog, I feel this dog is essentially untrainable. She is so dominant and so neurotically self-focused that we can no longer have any other dogs in our household and have to put her in a kennel when we have company over. I've had two other pure-bred Shepherds previously (from other breeders) and both were absolutely wonderful - super intelligent, very easy to train, and always eager to please. This is what I was hoping for when I spent nearly $2,000 for another pure-bred GSD. What I got was not even close. read more

I am electing to write and edit this review as I go through the process. I will time date each entry. I am starting today, Feb 25th. I have read the reviews here on Yelp* and they do appear a bit concerning (and that is why I am taking this feedback approach, and making it real and unbiased). Yet, as I read through them, I notice a trend. That trend seems to be that the owners having issues are primarily dealing with training/temperament....my view on this is that it is highly subjective and may easily be more an issue with proper homing, training and socialization by the customers. The other thing YELP*'ers seem to be concerned about is getting their paperwork...well, I can only trust this will not be an issue for me. Accordingly, I have elected to proceed with RMGS. I chose them for the following reasons: 1. I like the balance I see for this breeder. They appear very committed to the purity of the GSDs and perfecting the breed (i.e. first gen imports for breeding). Often when a breeder has this commitment, they become very patronizing to their customers...they will not allow Full AKC and they put arbitrary requirements in their contracts...as if their new owners do not have a commit. I get it. When dealing with the public, many breeders have seen their share of placements go awry. Yet, Jayne, at RMGS, seems very balanced...wanting to assure proper placement, commit to the breed, yet willing to develop a relationship of trust with her customer. And of course, important to me, they offer FULL ownership and FULL (unrestricted) AKC registration. 2. I like the facility, environment, and the socialization of the pups...having them born in the home around constant human activity is so very important. Room to roam, and yet private to semi private setting...very important. 3. I like RMGS's age and environment influenced views on neuter determination. 4. RMGS is local for us in CO. Being within driving distance for the several trips required is going to significantly increase the opportunity for success. I have searched for a GSD Long Coat (LC) breeder, with specific values, practices, and profile. I have only found one other in CO...but they will not have availability in 2017 for the LCs with the right temperament. Ok, now for the review...please check back to see our family experience as we go through the process: FEB 09th: First email to RMGS inquiring about just about everything. (9) volleys and a few days later, and all my questions have been answered to a level that I have decided to place a reservation for a puppy. FEB 13th: I placed the reservation (by phone with credit card) for the 4th position on a Female Long Coat from the Osso/Gina litter that was born on Feb 11th. My timing was extraordinarily fortunate to still get in on this litter. It appears to be just what we were looking for...very Long Coat female, family temperament (I have two little girls ages 7 and 9), and deep reds in the coat (all of this of course based on the Sire and Dam). We have been told that we can visit almost any time with a reservation, or without during their posted open house hours. I am informed that we will not know if the puppies will be Long Coat until the 4th week (which I don't quite understand, as I was previously under the impression that when both SIre and Dam are LCs, you get all LCs in the litter)...in any event, we will learn more about this when we visit at the four week mark. If we are not comfortable with the puppy, for any reason, our reservation will move forward to another litter. I will likely call or email in the next week or two, to secure a viewing time for the morning of March 11th. FEB 21st: I am taking my little girls on a journey by watching some videos on puppy rehoming, expectations, potty training and what it means to train the family in preparation for our puppy. Today, we will order a new smaller wire crate that fits better in the kitchen (our old one is plastic, too large, and obstructs the views). FEB 25th: Today, I begin this review (and added the history for a complete chronicle). MAR 04th: On Feb 28th I sent an email requesting a (4-week-old puppy) 9:00 am showing for Mar 11th. I received a response on Mar 03rd that Jayne could not meet the time requested, but would be able to make it at 11:00 (normal hours are 12-3). I appreciated the accommodation. read more

CAN YOU SAY PUPPY MILL!! Sorry i'm so late to this sight, i also purchased a puppy from Jayne in 2006 for 1500 dollar, paid another couple for the puppy to be flown to my state (less than an hour flight) so that i could pick her up. When i arrived at the airport to retrieve the puppy the puppy had had diahrea in the carrier and had it all over her legs. When we pulled her out of the carrier to clean her off, she kept stumbling like she was dizzy or something. Well we went to the vet on the following Monday (3rd day) and was told that the puppy first of all(cant remember the name) had some illness that any dog could catch even from water so i didn't think to much of it. Then they found it, a congenital heart murmur... the vet said she probably wouldn't live 6 months( she lived just under a year before my 12 year old son went out to get her and found her dead). My vet also said that it was so severe that a student would have been able to easily recognize the sound as such. When we contacted Jayne about this she tried talking me into circles about it not being true and such until i informed her that there are 2 veterinarians that listened to her heart and would testify to the findings. Long story short...she did eventually replace my pup approx. 7 months after my initial pup passed away and like the previous person stated, it was not my pick, but one that she decided to give me to keep her end of the contract. I would like to recommend to all of you that are looking to purchase a puppy THAT YOU DO IT FROM SOMEONE LOCAL SOMEWHERE THAT YOU CAN GO TO SEE AND INTERACT WITH THE PUPPIES AND MEET THE OWNERS. In my "opinion" Jayne doesn't care about the dogs that she sells other than the $$ that comes from the sell. Look elsewhere for your puppy!!!! Our puppy Tucker was born May 30, 2011 and our gotcha day was July 30, 2011. During the time he was with Jayne, we went to see him every Saturday. We loved going up there and seeing him. Everything was clean and all of the dogs were well taken care of. You were allowed to play with and/or hold all of the puppies onsite. We took Tucker home with us when he was a little over 8 weeks old. When Tucker was 4 months old, he went back to Rocky Mountain GSD for training while we were on our honeymoon. We left a naughty little puppy and got back a well mannered bigger puppy. The change in him was amazing. He is so well behaved now. Now he is going to be 7. He and my son are inseparable. He has the dominant traits and likes to herd. We love him so much that we had to get my parents a puppy from RMGSD. Over email, we were able to purchase a beautiful sable 6 month old puppy. She is now almost 2 and is my parents baby. I highly recommend Rocky Mountain GSD. As someone who has visited many breeders in the Denver area, this place tops every other. read more

Jayne and Sam are seriously some of the most understanding people! We went to check out Rocky mountain German Shepherd three times before we took our puppy home, and each time they were welcoming, and more than willing to answer our MILLION questions. Jayne is quick to answer emails! We ended up giving our puppy back, which we regret A LOT now, but she was so understanding! She didn't judge us, and has even given us updates on how he is!
