Though the adoption process is long (including a 9 page application, review of app, match-up with a dog, home visit, and finally the actual adoption process), it is so worth it, because for the price of the dog (which varies depending on the age/ability of the dog you are adopting), you get: spay or neuter, vaccinated for distemper/parainfluenza/parvovirus vaccine, deworming, microchip, a 1 hour personal training session or a professional training course at a Shiba Scout Rescue approved facility and senior dogs 7 years or older will also be given a dental if necessary. What I loved most about adopting through the rescue is that we received our dog already knowing that he would be good with our cats and with kids, when we decide to start a family. They keep the dogs for a time to observe them so they can give you a general idea of what kind of dog you are getting. While it is a longer process than adopting a dog through an animal shelter or humane society, I think it is so much more worth it because you already know the dog's personality (for the most part), and whatever problems may arise can be solved through the training course provided in the adoption fee.

I told Alli the ultimate goal would be to take Bailey to work with me each day so she could be enjoyed by the people I work with and work for. But, I'd be happy w just being able to go for a pleasant walk. Alli assured me the best thing for Bailey would be her group class. I was very hesitant (because I didn't want Bailey to bite another dog) but, wanted to give Bailey more freedom and have a more relaxed life w her, so I decided to trust Alli's recommendation and give the class a shot. Bailey was so scared during the first 20 mins of our first class, by the end of that very first class, she was so engaged and excited to please me. She has loved every minute of Alli's class. About 20 other dog owners go to the class I attend w my dog, and I know Alli has 3 other group classes she teaches during the week. It's been fun and AMAZING to see the progress in all of the dogs that come to class week over week. The owners seem happier w their pets, the dogs are calmer and you can see all the personalities emerging as the stress of bad behavior is gone. We have done 6 weeks of classes and have 3 more to go. I felt like I got my money's worth out of the instruction after week 2. I have no doubt that Bailey will be showing up to work with me very soon. Alli really knows her stuff. It's obvious she loves animals and is on a mission to make dog and human lives better. 10/10 recommend Alli for your dog training needs.

I turned in a stray dog that I was going to adopt if her previous owner didn't come forward. Based on her teeth, face, and personality, she appeared to be less than a year old. Unfortunately, I later discovered that she was pregnant, and after having a stillborn puppy in there care , she became understandably depressed and stopped eating. It's well documented that such traumatic experiences can lead to reactivity in dogs THAT YOU CAN WORK PAST . it was clear upon finding her that she had been abused skinny and scard of dogs and people , a concern I explicitly expressed to the Humane Society staff. What infuriated me the most was their decision to euthanize her as she was there for less then 4 weeks without informing us, stating reactivity and aggression not exploring any of the other rehabilitating options THEY HAVE to keep this yung dog alive . This felt not only unprofessional but also unethical, especially given the provisions of the Colorado Animal Rights Act, which emphasizes the humane treatment of animals. This decision is particularly egregious considering that, in the week I cared for her before turning her in, her reactivity stemmed purely from fear, a natural response to her past trauma and current situation and through out all that she loved kids . She was a scared, young animal in need of care, not a death sentence. I am beyond disappointed with the lack of communication and compassion shown in this situation. To add insult to injury, they have been ignoring my phone calls. When I did manage to speak with someone, the woman on the phone was incredibly rude, speaking to me as if I were a child and twisting my words to justify their decision to euthanize a dog whose life could have been saved. They took a life that deserved to live. Animals deserve better, she deserved better. I hope that by sharing this experience, the Humane Society will reflect on their practices and improve upper management because clearly this decision was made out of pure laziness The avoidable loss of this dog's life is a profound failure on their part. I am the way they are in the way. They handled this whole thing. I'm very hatred for the staff that decided to go through with this and not speak up.

They make sure they are altered, have vaccines, microchip and any other care that they might need prior to adopting them out. They also are good at doing reference checks to do their best to make sure that the animals will be going to a good or appropriate home for them. As a volunteer, they have been wonderful to work with. i have 2 teens that i volunteer with and their lives have been much enriched by being able to walk the dogs. The staff at animal friends is friendly and helpful. And the training provided beforehand helps them to know you are committed to coming and being a regular at their facility. They took some down time for covid but have since began opening up volunteer slots. We highly enjoy working with them and i know many people who have adopted from them and loved the process!

At the time, we already had a calm pack of three older dogs, so we thought we were ready. We weren't. Shifty was a whirlwind of anxiety, trauma, and FOMO despite our best efforts with food, routine, and enrichment -- and we had no idea how to communicate with a deaf and blind puppy. Let alone two puppies. We interviewed many trainers -- and I've worked with others in different states -- but Beth and Wayne are better than all of them combined. Truly. They are not only phenomenal trainers but also compassionate, brilliant, and kind humans. From the very first tearful phone call, they met us exactly where we were and gave us hope when surrendering felt like our only option (even though we were against it). They trained us as much as they trained Shifty, and the difference was immediate. Their one-on-one sessions gave us tools to navigate Shifty's trauma, and their puppy school helped us properly socialize him. They even taught us how to communicate with Cera and build commands for her despite her being both deaf and blind. Their facility is gorgeous and expansive -- the first time we visited, Shifty tore around the entire perimeter of the yard in pure joy. We realized then he needed a bigger yard, and their support even helped us navigate moving to Hawaii with five dogs on a plane. They even checked in afterward to make sure it went smoothly, long after our training sessions were finished. Who does that? Only trainers who genuinely care. They also have a huge room when the weather stinks and a cute little store with helpful products. We love using our flirt pole from them! Beth and Wayne go above and beyond. They're honest, compassionate, and endlessly patient. If we still lived in Colorado, we'd invite them over for dinner or board games -- that's how much we adore them. And if we ever need a trainer again, we'd happily work with them virtually over trying to find someone local. They're just that good. Today, as I write this, Shifty is calmly stretched out behind me, paws crossed, at peace -- something that felt impossible a year ago. Our whole family is thriving because of Beth and Wayne. Our dog had fear aggression, so we asked Beth and Wayne to help us out. After few private lessons we started to understand how to handle our dog, so he started to be nicer to us and strangers. Several of the animals have come from homes where they've had unfortunate encounters with other pets or that didn't realize mini pigs can reach 100+ pounds. The facility holds events like trick or treating, open house and story time for kids. They also are active in events in the surrounding communities, such as town festivals and parades. If you get a chance to visit, go! The people that run the rehab are friendly and it is a unique, fun, experience! Chris P's does a lot of great work for this less common four-legged friend.
