We got there at 9 am…read more(right when they opened the doors) and while it was very windy on the walkway, it was a relief against the blazing sun. Many of the animals were active until around 10:30/11 when the temperature warmed up. Right out of the welcome center, we saw 2 of their jaguars (which we were told are usually pretty elusive), some foxes, bobcats, bears, and to our happy surprise, a cheetah. It came out of the shade in the back of its habitat and approached the fence close to the walkway because an employee was driving by. It sat there for awhile until the employee drove off, so we were able to get lots of pictures. My son LOVES cheetahs, so this was definitely a highlight for us. Of course, when we mentioned it to not 1, but 2 employees/volunteers, they both said that that sanctuary location doesn't have any cheetahs. I showed them the pictures and they stated that it was a leopard. While they certainly do have a leopard (which we also saw), this was indeed a cheetah. So, my 1 suggestion to the sanctuary is to educate the staff on the animals there. Aside from that, we also saw wolves, lions, tigers, and camels. Be prepared to walk the 3 miles round trip. Bring lots of water and snacks (they have bathrooms and shaded rest stops along the way). Bring binoculars (or rent theirs for $10 like we did)--the sanctuary is expansive, far beyond what's next to the walkway. And take your time! We told our littles that the animals were playing hide and seek. It is a worthwhile experience!

Before heading out onto the walkway, there's a large tent with food and a space where you can watch a short video explaining the sanctuary's mission and the work they do. I appreciated having that background because it made the whole experience feel more meaningful once we were out there. It was also nice that you can grab food and bring it out with you. Obviously you cannot feed the animals, but you can enjoy your own food and bring a water bottle while you walk. I grabbed a slice of pizza on the way out and appreciated that flexibility. The volunteers were genuinely kind and clearly passionate about being there. The facility itself is huge, you walk along a long elevated walkway that stretches over the habitats, which gives you a really unique vantage point. We had beautiful weather and great visibility, so we were lucky to see a lot. Some animals were lounging, some sleeping, and others were playing around. I liked how each enclosure felt thoughtfully set up and spacious, you could tell they are trying to give the animals an environment that suits them. If you are an animal lover, it is absolutely worth checking out. I do think it can feel a little expensive without a membership, but when you see the scale of the property and understand the work they are doing, it makes more sense. Overall, it was a really special way to spend the day.

I understand ear tipping can be done for barn cats, but this looks like far more than it should be. I showed the photos to my vet today, and they told me the ear was cut way too short. Every time I look at her now I tear up, it breaks my heart. I truly wish my cat had been treated with more care and consideration.

They even cut our little hearts on her casts like oh my gosh. They were quick to see us, especially since I called and gave them only a 10 minute heads up that we were coming. As far as financials go, they give a very detailed estimate, with a range of what it could cost. Everything is broken down in great detail, and I know they try to cut costs for us, without it affecting our girls health. I'm VERY pleased and thankful for the crew here, everyone I've met (the technicians and the doctors) have genuinely been the sweetest, and I love seeing how gentle they are with my little baby.

Her manner was so detached that I started to wonder whether they even accepted emergency visits, so I asked. After a few long pauses, she said they did. She told us it would be a while before a doctor could see him. I asked how long and never got an answer. A second staff member came in, sat down at a computer, and didn't acknowledge us either. We left. I told them we were going elsewhere because we didn't feel welcome, and the response was a flat "Have a nice night." On paper, nobody did anything wrong -- and I want to be fair about that. But if you love animals, you can tell very quickly when you're standing in front of someone who doesn't. We went to VEG in Boulder instead, where they greeted us with warmth, and more importantly greeted our puppy and showed him affection while they got to work. I don't fault the woman at the front desk. This reads as a hiring and training problem, which falls to ownership and management. If you run a clinic for animals, basic compassion should be a minimum qualification for every person in the building. The vibe was off, and I wouldn't have trusted our puppy in their hands.

Nowadays, fashion rather than function seems to be the selection at 'outdoor' shops. Ok... there's Bent Gate that still carries higher quality gear for folks who like to 'get at it'. Sure, you get what you pay for but the stuff does what it's supposed to do albeit at a price point a little higher than average. However, if you ever needed gear that will not fail, buy the better stuff for in the long run, you'll not only come out ahead but it might save your life. Traveling cross-country with my English Bulldog, Titus, from San Diego to Rochester, NY has been…read morequite the adventure -- and we hit an unexpected bump in the road when we stopped in Denver for the night. Titus wasn't acting like himself; lethargic, breathing a little heavier than usual, and just clearly not feeling great. As any bulldog owner knows, you don't take chances with these guys, especially on the road. I ended up taking him to Evolution Veterinary Specialists in Denver, and honestly, I couldn't be more grateful. From the moment we walked in, their team was kind, calm, and professional -- exactly what I needed in the middle of a stressful situation with my best buddy. They assessed him quickly and thoroughly, and it turned out he needed some intravenous medication and monitoring overnight. Leaving Titus anywhere is hard -- especially in an unfamiliar city -- but they made sure I knew he was in the best hands. They kept me updated and treated him like he was one of their own. By the next morning, he was perking up, wagging that little stump of a tail, and ready to hit the road again like the tough little traveler he is. Huge thank you to the team at Evolution for not only taking care of Titus medically, but also for being so compassionate and reassuring to a worried dog dad. Each person from the counter to the exam room were friendly and even though it was their day-to-day job, still talked with an empathetic tone. Dr Westberry was oh my goodness amazing. We were seen immediately due to the circumstances and the condition my dog was in. She sat on the floor and talked with my dog and us for about an hour. Going over the care, options, possibilities and treatments. Never felt forced to go in one direction or the other and never felt like it was about the money. Always felt like it was about the best quality of life for my dog. Now this is the kind of place i would spend money at just because of how my dog was treated and how i was treated. Thank you, Dr Westberry and the rest of the staff, for all that you did. We tried our best but unfortunately it didn't work. You took good care of my bubby and that's all that matters. Thank you. Price was fair, especially since it was a spur of the moment urgent cost. Still cheaper than VCA southeast. Great service, friendly, compassionate, empathetic, caring.
