Waiting out front to get my pup
    Holly M.

This place is an amazing place to get your dog or cat or animal spayed or neutered. You have to wait in a long line, but it is worth it and my pup has healed amazingly. The ladies and gentlemen, that work here are beyond kind and care about animals . I am always down to support small business..

Dry stuck poop on both back paws!

Today I had my puppy neutered and thought everything was all good with him! But once he sat next to me all I could smell was poop and wasn't long after that I noticed all the dry hard poop stuck in his tail and back of his legs! Also his back paw pad took at least 15 minutes of scrubbing to get all of the poop off of them! I understand puppies get scared and they do this sort of thing! But why couldn't you guys even try to clean him? He was in your care for 8 hours! I know you can't let them out to use the bathroom but he clearly was sitting in his own poop for a long time if not the whole time! I am extremely disappointed and it makes me feel like I made the wrong choice on who I chose to care for my dog!

When we adopted her July of 2011, thanks to David S.'s recommendation, she was just over a pound and tiny. The vet said he doubted she was a full eight weeks and she was a tad underweight but she had been spayed and her little baby belly had a little tiny stitch in it which healed nicely. She had a little bit of a goopy eye that she got drops for and it cleared up. Our vet gave her the initial exam for free because she was a rescue and gave her a clean bill of health. We began the fatten-up-baby-Leeloo project and now she is still small, but her proper, almost adult weight. Let's just say, she is the prefect match for our family and my heart is warmed every single time I see her especially when she crawls on my chest to wake me in the morning to point out the fact she is a Supreme Being - the Fifth Element and needs chicken. I hardly remember life without her now.

The mission of Angels with Paws is great, but their "leadership" needs re-evaluation. Specially, Elizabeth Talamantez, as she is cruel and abuses the shelter's mission by trying to play God. I went to the shelter and immediately fell in love with one of their cats. The cat also took well to me. After reading the listing and visiting with the volunteer who observed how the cat and I interacted, there was no reason to believe this cat would not do well in my home with another cat. The listing never mentioned a home with existing cats being an issue, the social media post even encouraged a proper introduction with other pets in their new home, and when talking with the volunteer there was no mention of other cats being problematic. I submit my application and when I followed up, I was shocked to hear the "rationale" or lack of logic rather as to why I was being denied thr opportunity to save this cat. Elizabeth informed me that she felt it was best this friendly and affectionate cat "would do best being placed in a home with an aggressive cat or a dog" . What sick monster would subject a poor animal to an environment where they are being bullied by an aggressive cat or potentially terrified of a dog and not to mention this cat had no known history of being around dogs? Elizabeth Talamantez is not an animal advocate. She's a mentally disturbed individual who enjoys playing God by subjecting innocent animals to poorly placed homes. My family and I have consistently donated company matched donations and cat food throughout the years because we believe in the shelters mission, but we had no idea how disturbed the "leadership" is. For anyone reading this, I highly encourage you to consider donating elsewhere because your donations likely aren't being managed in a way that aligns with what the shelter claims. It's unfortunate how people will take advantage of innocent beings to fulfill their sick and twisted fantasies, while claiming to be a cat advocate.

Planet Pethood is a nice little pet food store at 43rd & Tennyson, right next door to Wine Jesters…read more(the new little wine shop in the neighborhood). The store has various brands and types of pet food, treats, and toys. She also has a few adoptable cats and dogs that were obviously given up by their uncaring people parents. The owner is a vet tech and a vegetarian, and she seems to care deeply about animals. The shop is not as big or as fancy as Mouthfuls pet boutique down the street but it carries the dog food we buy. Nature's Variety is a great natural dry dog food. Our dog loves all the flavors... and while it is more expensive than grocery store dog food, because the food has less cheap "fillers", dogs actually eat less than they would of other "cheaper" brands. So, the price is actually only slightly more more expensive when you factor in the whole bag lasts longer than the same size of cheaper brands. http://www.naturesvariety.com/ 4 1/2 stars because she cares about the animals!

You can view animals available for adoption- usually cats or small dogs- every day during store hours. The store owner describes Planet Pethood as, "a politically correct pet store." I can't justify giving any less than four stars to a cute shoppette that combines support for pet adoption and rescue with a fairly nice selection of foods, treats, toys, leashes, and everything you need for your dog or cat; and Planet Pethood fully deserves the four stars it's getting. I do, however, have some minor gripes. For starters, both the store itself and the website are unclear on exactly what Planet Pethood's involvement with Planned Pethood, the low-cost vet down the street, is. Nowhere can I find an actual percentage donated to a specific organization, and as a rescue person that sets off a serious case of nerves. The website describes the store owner as having her own rescue- but where is the name, the 501(c)3 status, the official website? Also many of the links point to Planned Pethood, but nowhere does the store owner declare an official affiliation. My spidey senses would be beeping if it weren't for the clear support of rescues via adoptable animals in store. I'd love to know if this store donates its profits, and if so, what percentage and TO WHOM; also, how closely, exactly, it is related to Planned Pethood. Second, I have a few snipes to take at the dog food selection. Canidae and Timber Wolf are excellent choices, but where is Innova Evo? I wanted a bag of Innova Evo Red Meat, but left empty handed because it doesn't appear to be on the shelves. And Avo Derm? It uses ground corn in several formulas- NOT exactly up to my pet food standards. Breeder's Choice is similarly well packaged but lacking in actual quality. However, for the slightly less picky than myself, Planet Pethood seems to be a nice pet supply store with many good choices and a true desire to support rescue and adoption.

The shelter itself is an open concept (minus cats who must be separated) and I think that's pretty neat. You get to see the cats in an environment they're used to and they become comfortable/social with humans. You can also check out their personality and see if they fit well with you. The staff working here are kind/you can tell they enjoy what they do! They answer questions and walk you through the very easy adoption process. In comparison to other places, I noticed the adoption fee was about 100$ less, so that is cool. I adopted Spud - also known as " The profesor" ( the name they gave him) last February and he has become a lovely addition to my pet family. He came with a bag of the food they were feeding him, a blanket and some coupons. It took him some time to adjust, I suspect he might've been feral prior to coming to CCS (His left ear is clipped- which I think is TNR program?) but once he did he is the best companion. He also gets along with my senior cat well. The cats here are socialized, sweet and there's tons to check out. Someone for anyone - if you're looking/ready to take that step. I recommend!

She graduated some PT training with them, gave me much anxiety when her legs would hurt her, and they were always the very best at sending her home with me happy and healthy. Sadly, the last time I brought her here, it was too late to save her. Nessie was a Bernese Mountain Dog and she had hemangiosarcoma which was undiagnosed. Her symptoms the morning of her passing was primarliy lethargy, not wanting food, and pale gums. Within moments of me realizing she wasn't doing well, I got her into the car and sped to the hospital. As we were driving her symptoms got worse and I called ahead to ask for immediate help. The team was out front when we arrived and we got her onto a gurnee. I wiped out one of her eye boogers and told her I'd be right there to take care of her. Nessie sadly didn't make it to surgery. Her heart gave out before we could help her. But I know she got the best way to leave this earth as she was barely in pain and she wouldn't have liked the cancer treatment we were planning for her. The team did a really good job helping me through the hardest thing I've ever been through. My one regret is I wish I had woken earlier that day and tried to get her help faster. But sometimes things don't go the way we want. I hope if you're in need of urgent care, you can get your pup here swiftly and allow the team to do their very best. It's a hard job these Vets and the team have, taking care of our sweet angels.
