If I could give this place a negative 5 star I would based on the way they conduct business for my first time ever using them. Subaru EJ25 rebuilt engine for $1450 purchased on 4/18/17, engine died and knocking on 5/14/17 after only 80 miles put on this engine. Heads were rebuilt by Area Automotive & Machining 9/9/16 and ran fine, then developed a rod bearing going bad causing rod noise on start up only, no metal ever drained in 8 months I drove it prior to having enough to buy a rebuilt block from Rocky Mountain Roos. Upon draining oil there was a huge amount of shiny fine metal glitter clearly visible, and metal found in pan after they tore it down. They blamed my used heads, which would obviously ruin my heads and old block if the metal came from them, and never drained in oil changes. They claimed somehow that metal sat in heads for 8 months then all ran through the new block all of a sudden in 80 miles, so wouldn't refund or stick by his 1 year warranty and gave me 3 choices: *Pay them to put block together they said nothing was wrong with, but had metal in oil pan *Take $300 and a loss and leave them the engine *Pick up the disassembled block crank pistons rods bearings in a box It would've took them 1-2 hours to find the problem and put it back together, keep a lifetime Subaru owner as a customer, get good word of mouth spread about their work and warranties, instead they screwed me over for a quick $1450 and a whole lot of bad mouthing to every Subaru owner I know. Not a trustworthy shop at all. Also have a car lot, so i definitely wouldn't buy a used Subaru from this establishment. The tech they have named Aaron is super knowledgeable and friendly, he deserves to work for a better shop and owner who knows how to conduct business in this Subaru loving market here in Colorado!! So if anyone's looking for a awesome Subaru builder/mechanic you need to get ahold of Aaron there and make him a offer he can't refuse. read more

Ace diagnosed the problem (along with a couple others) and fixed everything for far less than the least expensive quote I received from a local Subaru dealership, and a couple others. They replaced a head gasket (along with machining) and fixed a leak in the power steering in less than two days, pretty impressive, and saved the wife and I from having to rent a car! Took our 17-year-old daughter's 1998 Outback Subaru in because rough shifting and questionable brakes. Ace, the front desk guy, eased our concerns. The repair shop did a great job on our brakes and front end. They also did a transmission flush. All in one day. On the surface they appear to be a good company, below is my reason why they are far far from it. After 1 year of hell, chasing down phantom issues and being made to feel like an idiot by Rocky Mountain Roos- My Subura has just had an entire new engine to replace their diabolically shoddy work. --- Started when my 05 Outback overheated in the CO mountains, and I took it to Rocky Mountain Roo's (location was the only reason). They had my car for an eternity, with no updates. I got the car back with $5.5k of "work". The money draining saga begun. I immediately started having issues with my cars performance, to where it was almost not drive-able. Took it back to Rocky Mountain Roo's many times, with the same response 'We can't duplicate the symptoms, it's probably *******insert generic bs mechanical issues**** ' Roll out 12months of; horrendous drive-ability, 1.5 -2.5qrts of oil burned every 1000miles, hundred of dollars in fuel pumps and other parts pursuing Rocky Mountain Roos mechanical wild goose chases between oil changes. I took it back to them for the last time and got the same treatment as always. This time told it must be your turbo - they removed my cars downpipe to find it wasn't the turbo..I got brushed off and was just left with a still broken car. Fortunately I had been keeping updates with my warranty company the whole duration of all the issues. They allowed me to take my car to another garage to have my car diagnosed and repaired. What a proper mechanic found: *Two cylinders had MAJOR compression issues. *One valve was not closing. *It states my engine was machined by Rocky Mountain Roos - Actually they only machined one side of the engine and stopped. WHY?? because they machined the valves to the try to create clearance see the pictures. *The other end of the valves where also "machined" - it looks like someone just drove along dragging them along the ground. Not perpendicular, even or smooth. *The Turbo inlet hose -only touched by Rocky Mountain Roos was not attached properly, had be crushed and torn by them just cranking down the clamps without ever aligning them. *Had major vacuum leaks where Rocky Mountain Roos has wrongly assembled my car and routed hose the wrong way - stressing them to the point of splitting. Now I have an entire new engine. My car has had +$14.5k of work in a little over 12months because of Rocky Mountain Roos terrible work! The mechanic I took the car to be fixed- documented and showed me all the evidence of Rocky Mountain Roos horrific work. I had valve cover gaskets, head gaskets, the water pump and timing belt, spark plugs and spark plug wires all installed in December 2015 on my Forester. I was told the valve cover gaskets and head gaskets were done now for the life of the car. In January 2016 the valve cover gaskets failed but one month out of warranty and a few thousand miles out of warranty and I was told to fix it myself. No offer to even give me the parts or a discount on the parts. read more

We originally came in to find out why no washer fluid was coming out. They said "You need a new pump for $247." We found out 2 days later at the dealer service that the stopback valve was clogged. Pump is fine. Good thing we didnt go with them.) At this place, the diagnostic codes that came up said 420 catalytic converter which I was expecting for the age and stage of the car. They told us "you need a new one and there are none around right now. On backorder. You cant get them anywhere. 3 clients have been on a waiting list for 6 months with still no word as to when they'll come in. Oh and new emissions as of 2021 in Colorado means they're redesigning it and no eta for your model subaru. We can take $2000 deposit (essentially pay in full) and put you on the list. You could keep driving but find your car will be undriveable and could burst into flames. We dont mean to scare you." Umm...ok. "plus you need $500 worth of 02 sensors" and it went on. So our denver west dealership service manager looked at everything independently while I called subaru head office to find out if these cat conv shortages are real. Nope. Same model still being used as of now and still being sent out. No emissions changes reported out to dealers requiring new equipment for our vin #. My service manager checked on all these statements and said they have access to 7 catalytic converters right now with 20 logged in as available in denver metro area. Plus he recommends trying to unclog it for $30 first before switching out and paying 2k. No 02 sensor issues showed up. And definitely washer fluid pump is working. So yeah. Don't go here. They'll steal your money and lie right to your face doing it. And scare you half to death to get your business. We paid them over $200 for these diagnostics by the way. read more

We had a head gasket done (1999 Subaru Forrester) about a week ago and this place was fair in price and time frame. The staff is professional, the vehicle is running perfect and we will be back to have some more work done when finances allow. I must say i continue to be impressed with this shop. It has a nice family run feel (husband/wife and some kids work there) , but is professional and honest. we have had several large ticket items done on two of our subarus. Head gasket on one. Rear differential viscous coupler on another. Both were expensive , but fairly priced--cheaper then other places for sure. AND, done well. Quality work. Comes with 2 yr warranty if u sign up for it. And most recently, i was there for an oil change and had them check my brake rotators as well. Turned out they felt they need to be replaced. AND they did it on the spot and essentially for free-- they felt they should be warrantied. great service. honest. read more

***Final Update*** I have received reimbursement for the battery and they did the labor for free on my timing belt change, I just had to supply the parts. ***Update*** Rich has reached out to me to try and make this right. He is reimbursing me for the battery and offered to do my timing chain replacement including the labor for free. They are also looking into my DMV charges to see if they can get any of them reversed. I will make a final update when all is said and done and make a final edit to my review. *****BUYER BEWARE***** This place just flips Subaru's left and right. You'll see some older reviews that state "they forgot to tighten the lugs" and the guy who also had a ton of problems with his Subaru; I can tell you from personal experience you should BELIEVE THEM! All of the 4-5 star ratings must be for oil changes or extremely simple things because this place is the definition of sloppy and just reinstills why I do not like used car dealerships. They'll buy them broke down at an extreme discount, do the absolute BARE MINIMUM to get them running and sell them at a premium claiming that all the work is done by a certified technician. I purchased a used car from Rocky Mountain ROOS and it had a laundry list of things wrong with it; if I wasn't mechanically inclined serious damage could have taken place. I have spent over 40 "Labor Hours" troubleshooting and over $500 in parts and ECU scanning. 1. My car is in "Limp Mode" only producing wastegate boost of 9psi; which means the system thinks something is wrong and limiting the boost as to not blow something up. 2. When I picked the vehicle up it needed a jump and they said it was because someone left the light on. Truth: It was the original battery that is supposed to last 5 yrs and was completely dead and read "bad" when I had it tested. 3. I was told that the broken E-Brake piece was "unavailable from the dealer so it could not be fixed." Truth: It was an added expense and the part is available from the dealer. 4. There was almost NO coolant in it at all. I had to fill it up twice and burp it for it to even show in the reservoir. There were multiple radiator leaks from bad hose clamps. 5. I was told that all the taxes and fees from the DMV were included in purchase price and that the license plates will only be a few dollars. Truth: It was $250+ for my plates. 6. The headlights leaked so badly that the lights barely looked like they were on in the rain and one of the bulbs wasn't even seated correctly in the headlight. 7. 4th gear had a intermittent grind. Fluid was BELOW the "Low" marker. 8. There was a boost leak, after further inspection it was from a stripped hose clamp from their "Subaru Technician" from when the turbo was fixed. 9. There is a leak from the turbo to the downpipe from a stripped stud in the turbo, also from when the turbo was changed. At this point the threads in the turbo are damaged and I am not sure how to fix this. All in all an inexperienced consumer could have caused serious damage from their lack of thoroughness when "flipping" this vehicle and considered it a lemon based on the problems that would have been created by their "certified technicians" thoughtless actions. This is exactly why I do not like to buy vehicles from dealers; their technicians can't even take the time to make sure the fluids are all topped off before the vehicle is put out for sale much less install a turbo without stripping 1 of 5 studs. read more

Recently had our 2008 Subaru completely overhauled including engine replacement with all that entails, as well as, multiple other issues resolved. My husband and I had decided it was in our best interests to bring our vehicle up to safe and reliable versus buying new. So glad we did and that we chose Rocky Mountain Roos for this major decision/repair. Three months after we purchased our new Subaru, we had a major accident and were told if the vehicle had not been so new it would have been totaled. We never felt like the car had been properly repaired, but now believe it indeed has. It is such a relief to know that we can now travel anywhere without our previous concerns. So I bought a 2008 Subaru Impreza from these guys in september of 2015 from a super friendly nice dude. At the time they told me that diagnostics on a car I buy from them was free. And that was the case, for about the first year. About 3 months into owning the car the traction control, check engine light, and cruise control light come on. I take it in, they say they couldn't find anything wrong, reset the dash lights and give me a really cheap oil change (yay!). a few months later, same thing happens. Take it in again, same story, 'nothing's wrong'. Then the guy I normally dealt with in the service department disappeared. I take it in again probably 5-6 months later and there's a new guy who tells me they were never supposed to do free diagnostics. And then they tell me that the check engine light is coming on because of the calalytic converter, since I haven't been using premium gas in it, which I was never told about previously, and I am still getting conflicting reports on to this day. They tell me to try putting the better gas in it and see if that fixes the check engine light. Then they charge me $600-some for other various random things, most of which l'm not completely clear on what they exactly did (if anything at all) and then sign me up for a credit card over the phone (which I didn't really agree to, but it at least had 6 months no interest, so I won't complain about that too much). The one thing I'm sure on is that they told me they fixed my unstable front bumper, but not more than a month after that it was essentially back to the terrible condition it was before, where a pretty slight knock on the side would pop it off. Short story long, up to this point this car has really been nothing but trouble for me, and after taking it to a different dealership to fix an airbag recall, that dealership lets me know there's quite a few pretty severe issues with the car (head gasket and rear struts leaking, catalytic converter definitely needs to be replaced) that would cost $3000+ to fix, which is basically what I have left to pay on my loan for the car. Now I'm in the process of looking for another car, trying to trade this one in. I'm hearing many shady stories of this dealership's business practices. One of the dealership's pulled a history report on my car which showed what looked like almost a 70k (!!!) odometer rollback on the car. Granted, not sure if this dealership owned it at that point, but I wonder why this was never brought up to me when I bought the car? Surely that's something that should show up on the car fax? Which they did show me. Now I'm hearing stories of how this place has a reputation of buying totaled cars and reselling them, and people can't even believe my credit union let that sale go through. I'm not one to really dig my heels into this kind of stuff, cause I know how much easier it is to give bad reviews than good ones. But after many sleepless nights about this car and lots of confusion about what I was paying these guys for, I can't help but at least urge people use caution with this dealership. I definitely feel like I was played pretty hard. And you can be SURE that I will never go back to this place, and certainly not recommend it to anyone else. And yes, I'm aware that buying used cars (or even new ones) in general is a gamble, but I can't help but feel that a lot of the problems I've experienced could have been prevented or lessened had they given me proper service. I purchased a Subaru Outback 2 years ago from them. I was told air conditioning worked. Didn't. They claimed to have fixed it but it has never worked. The latch on the hood was broken and the hood flew up while on highway 1 month after purchase. Insurance covered repairs. The lock on my driver side door quit opening. They fixed it but cost $150.00. Also just had to get the driver side window put back in place. Decided to take it to a different mechanic and he showed me how the door was missing 3 screws. And the 4th one was loose. This company was the last to work on that door. My hatchback has not opened in 1 1/2 years. I paid $7,785 cash. Not satisfied would not recommend this company. If it was on a lease I bet they would have been more inclined to do the work. read more
