I only gave 3 stars because the food was 5 star but the service was just 1 star. There was almost a 30min delay between the first half of our group getting their food and the second half. Came here for the first time and was disappointed. Nothing special which is unfortunate because I had hoped for better and I like trying new places. The service was terrible. I came after lunchtime and my server was very cold and not personable at all. Just not friendly or attentive. She never checked on me or asked how the food was. I wish she did because the food was simply not good. The pulled pork sandwich was cold and didn't taste fresh. The croutons on my salad were stale and chewy, inedible. Let's first talk about beer, the Founders Nitro Rubaeus is so flavorful and creamy, I just had to come back the next day for another and bring hubby. I've been here several times. Yes, you might have to wait but the wings are well worth it. On this visit we thought they closed at 10 instead of their closing time at 9pm. But the staff were still just as nice & accommodating. They were ranked #6 in the state but I think it should be higher. Rocky Top has always been my favorite restaurant, I was extremely disappointed with my experience this evening. Our server Ashley was amazing besides a mishap with my meal, she kindly said it was an easy fix. When my meal was brought back to the table, it was as if the kitchen staff had taken their hand, grabbed everything off, left sauce on the handle and brought it back to my table. It looked disgusting. I had to leave the restaurant. My husband asked for a new one to be made to go, in which they had charged us for an additional meal, when the first meal had never been touched by me. I love Rocky Top. Plain and simple. My dad and I always order a Full Pan of bone-in wings with their Louisiana Spicy sauce and we can knock out the entire pan in 15 minutes. Food was very good and the server was very attentive. The downside is with the billing. They apply a service fee if you pay using a credit card. When questioned about the fee you are told there is a sign on the door. I don't know too many customers that take the time to read all of the signs on the door before entering. Dad and I were in town for business and the locals suggested this place. Menu looked good, we ordered a pulled pork dinner and half-order of wings. Our server never returned to refill our drinks (he had a soda and I had a beer flight). She disappeared for 30-minutes. After an hour and 15 minutes, we found her and she said five more minutes. We gave her five minutes, paid for our drinks, and left. We handed her the cash for the drinks and said, "This should cover the drinks. We've waited an hour and 20 minutes for our food." She says, "OK." No apology, no explanation, nothing. Just, "OK." Building was probably at 75% capacity. No visible reason for a ticket time like that. Even still, she made NO effort to alleviate it or make us feel better. I am horribly disappointed in the service and the experience. I'll be back up here in October and maybe, MAYBE, give this place another try. But as a one-off, this was a terrible dining experience. So sad what has happened here. Used to have all my business meals here and then had one or t o personal meals here a week. Portions continue to shrink and what we're great items are no longer on the menu. Had a soup this weekend and it may have been the smallest cup of $2.99 soup I have ever seen. It now takes 45 minutes to get our food almost every time, even when no one is in the restaurant. They used to have such a solid wait staff and people just keep leaving. Pulled pork with the Carolina mustard was outstanding. Moist meat but still tough enough to stand up to the sauce. Ribs with the sweet sauce were very good. Would have liked the meat to pull off the bone a little easier but still a good consistency. Wings were claimed to be some of the best in the country and they were good, but not as meaty as I would have liked. Good tenderness however. Brisket was completely dry and really inedible. I consider myself a pretty strong critic of restaurants - but the negative reviews for Rocky Top surprise me! I absolutely loved this restaurant. Don't get me wrong I was born and raised in Tennessee - the real Rocky Top - and I have had much better bbq in my life, but this is the best spot I've found since moving to Michigan (4-5 years ago). I LOVE that the bbq is served in individual Lodge cast iron skillets. The bbq sauces are incredible and on par for great flavored sauces in the south. The wings are delicious and the pit smoked baked beans are addicting. I wasn't a fan of the macaroni and cheese. read more

Late post. Visited this past week btwn 8/22 -8/27. These folks are good! They had me hook line and sinker. I was only in Jackson for a week and my first time there I ordered a full platter of wings. They had an awesome selection of sauces to choose from, but I was a little disappointed that they were smoked and not fried. Honestly it was probably best that they weren't because I still at every wing and a full platter of their wings is ALOT! Sorry I didn't take a picture. What makes these people good is that with your order they give you a $5 gift card. Well dayum, I guess I'll be back. So a day or two later I swung by (great curb side service btw) and picked up the bourbon tri-tip and the cherry walnut salad. That was very good. The meat was cooked well and tender. I loved the grilled chicken on the salad. Once again I forgot the picture. Well they gave me another $5 gift card. Don't mind if I do. So my last night I figured that I'd get the sampler. Whoa! That was a lot of meat! I even took a picture this time. Everything was good but I really liked the baby back ribs and the sausage. I almost got through it all but I left about 1/4 of the burnt ends. This place is probably packed on a normal night and after they are able to allow sit down dining this place will be packed again because the bbq is that good. I travel to Michigan a couple of times a year so whether I'm in Jackson, Lansing, Detroit, and possibly even Grand Rapids I will probably visit Rocky Top again read more

Loved this place! Everyone working there was super friendly and energetic. The atmosphere was spacious and had a variety of seating options. There were also so e arcade games in the back corner. We ordered the smoked club sandwich, parmesan garlic chicken wrap, and chicken waffle fries. Everything was delicious and the portions were great for the price. Amazing service! Great food! And kick ass beer! The BlackBerry Blonde is the best. We first went 2 Fridays ago in the evening and it was busy but the service and food was excellent. We went back last Friday for a late lunch and the server we had greeted us at the door and remembered us and even commented on aspects of our previous visit.
