You know you are home when you take that first bite of a coney dog and memories of your childhood come flooding back. I have so many memories from being a kid, to dates with my husband and now looking forward to the first visit when back in town. We both got 2 coney dogs and root beer. I had the onion rings while the hubs had fries. One thing I love about Rudy's is they do not skimp on the coney sauce and I have no shame in saying that I could just eat it with a fork. lol Their root beer is perfectly creamy and has just the right amount of "bite". I can neither confirm nor deny that we returned later in the day to get a Boston cooler (Vernor's float) and a cream beer. If you are a local or visiting the area, you must check them out. They only accept cash but have an ATM on site. Service is by car hop and they have picnic tables that you can dine at if you don't want to eat in your car. I see another trip in the future before we leave even if it's just for a brown cow or another Boston cooler. lol read more

This looks like a diner with a relatively simple menu with food that you might also want on the fourth of July and that's exactly what it is - great cheeseburgers, great mozzarella sticks, great root beer, fantastic shakes. If you get the 1/2 gallon jug of root beer, it comes in a plastic milk jug, not an amber glass bottle (the advertising on DoorDash shows a cute I think charging 71 cents for ketchup is weird, but overall fair pricing. The food was not good. Hot dogs and chicken sandwich was gritty, the fries were soggy and unsalted, the mozzarella sticks tasted expired, and that completed our food order. Rudy's Drive-In has been open for well over fifty years and has been embraced by the community and truly has become a fixture on the culinary scene of this area. There is nothing fancy about the menu, the two highlights really are their hamburgers and hot dogs. I do not mean this to be disparaging in any way. These are two personal favorites of mine and Rudy's Drive-In does an admirable job with their burgers and hot dogs. In addition to the burgers and hot dogs, Rudy's Drive-In has what you would expect from a drive-in restaurant. I am a huge fan of the concept of the drive-in restaurant. They grew to the height of their popularity in the 1950's, which was a time that America truly fell in love with their automobiles and the freedom to travel that they represented. When drive-throughs became more popular, the drive-in restaurants started waning in popularity. This to me is truly sad. However, with places like Rudy's Drive-In still around, it gives us all a chance to experience a true slice of Americana. I would definitely recommend here and I give it five stars. read more

This place continues to pull in the crowd for lunches or dinners. It's not unheard of to not find a spot to park during dinner or a beautiful sunny day. The staff is prompt and friendly and do their best to pump the food out of the kitchen. Cash only establishment, but they do have an ATM inside. They have an ATM onsite but you'll want to just bring cash to avoid those fees. The food was all solid, although nothing really notable. Old fashioned car hop place. Cash only but they do have an ATM inside. No bathrooms or indoor seating. Menu is easy to see from your car, but don't neglect reading the center piece about if you dump your tray, you pay for you food, so don't move your window. Good reminder. We pulled up and had someone out there in a flash. Hadn't been there in 10 years but glad to see they still have the olive burgers. A bit salty w all the olives, but still really good. I had a fried fish sandwich and was really surprised it was so crunchy, and fresh. Cooked to order for sure. A large fry was smaller than I thought but the price was cheap so no big deal. The spicy cheese sauce was great with the crinkle fries. We weren't beating around the bush with root red and just ordered the half gallon for $3.30. I was leaving the dispensary down the street with my boyfriend. I asked the people in the car next to us of any good places to eat around here. They mentioned Rudy's and a pizza place. I was sold on Rudy's because they said it was a drive in and they specialized in burgers and coneys. Can't beat that! I drive down the street and see the place is packed. I get even more excited!! I love finding cool new places loved by locals! surprisingly we pull up and find a spot right in front of the menu. I am now officially on cloud 9. The aesthetic is just want I wanted to see. The menu prices are heavenly. I order for myself - double bacon cheeseburger & cheese fries and root beer. We are about 45 mins in waiting for the food. I'm not even mad.. really ads to the experience. I then realize they don't accept cash and I need to find a place to get money, the lady asked to hold something of ours as collateral to make sure we came back.... I mean whatever. Cool. Here's a license. We come back and the food is ready! I'm excited. I pull out the kids meal for my kiddo... I see the patty. It's that weird color of soy products and looks like no flavor. Then I notice there isn't a piece of cheese. I immediately feel sadness for my 3 year old. Why didn't they ask if we wanted cheese :( I then pull out of my food, still excited to mow down. Love this place. It's a car hop where they put the food on the window. Waitresses are fast. Food is good and hot. They have daily specials. They have great tasting root beer in ice cold mugs. Everytime I go here, it takes me back in time. Does anyone remember when they used to be an A & W? I remember when I went to first A & W out of town and was so disappointed in the hot dog sauce. I thought something had gone wrong in the world. It was such a special gift when I realized that ours was better than any other. When I'm in town, I try to get a Rudy's fix, cause I've never had any other sauce like it. It's delicious! They are a treasured memory from childhood. It makes me sad because I have such fond memories of this place growing up, but it was just gross. The burgers were inedible which is a disappointment as they used to be at least decent. When the waitress asked how everything was and we tried to tell her it was mediocre, she simply cut me off as walked away with the tray. Our shakes were still really good. The Root Beer tastes like watered down flavored beverage, yuck! Last Dog i had the lousy cook had the whole bottom of my foot long drenched in grease and the bun split, really? I've always heard how great Rudy's was & how I need to try it. So I did. Rudy's is a local drive in, pull up, they come to your car & they do takeouts. Cash only though. I called in an order & went to pick it up, brought it home & I must say I was very disappointed! The double burgers were 1/2 the size of a Wendys burger & they had no flavor, no seasoning. It reminded me of soy burgers. The chili cheese dog & coney dog are one & the same only on the cheese dog they melted a piece of velveeta cheese on it or I'm sure something cheaper. The coney dog as they call is, was not a coney in the true sense of the word. The dog was cheap, no taste. The chili sauce was just that, chili sauce like you get canned in a store. The fries were ok but not great. And the root beer they brag so much about was flat. It wasn't comparable to the kind you buy in 2 liters at stores. I am not sure why this place is packed all the time. I personally feel I could have a got a better tasting & cheaper & more filling meal at McDonalds down the road & that's pretty sad. This says a lot for the dining choice in the Jackson area for quick burgers. Boy, a 5 guys would put most of these places around here out of business/ Oh also their website is not very user friendly & they have short hoyrs. Waitstaff was friendly though. We went here thanks to an article in the Jackson paper and we thought it was great! We all got burgers of different styles and sizes, along with fries, onion rings, and root beers, and due to the silence in the car it seemed like everyone was happy. My burger was good and actually had a decent amount of meat on it *glares at McDonald's and Burger King*. My fries were piping hot and perfectly crispy on the outside, while still soft on the inside. They make their own root beer, which was pretty good in my opinion, though I'm not a big fan of root beer, personally. Also, the service was quick and they got our order right the first time. Rudy's is redesigned from a classic A & W, this is the quality of food you should expect from this local business. I personally enjoy their service and how you can order ahead and your food will be ready when you get there. They've had the same waitstaff for a couple years now at least and I've never had a problem with missing orders or problems. One thing to note is they do not take credit cards so make sure you bring cash. They have added an ATM however so fear not if you forget this sacred rule. read more
