Rocky's cafe /store/ video store So cute it is a tiny cafe in Kasilof Ak if you drive too fast you will blow by it. Nice place to stop for a bite to eat and use restroom. Take a step back in time as you pass through the video store going to restroom. The food was good but pricey for a little place. The general store has tons of goodies and souvenirs t shirts. This place is so cute and unique. The staff was so friendly and fast. Checking on us multiple times. We ordered the meatloaves pizza and I was not disappointed. The crust was incredible. You could tell it was homemade fresh. The edges had like a garlic bread taste to them. It was crispy on the outside but soft on the inside. The center of the pizza where all the toppings were was a thinner crust so a little crunchy which I love. The sauce had a nice fresh taste to it as well. This was a bit on the heavy side and greasy but that's kind of what you ask for on any meatloaves pizza with that much fatty meat but so tasty. Sometimes it can be a day of tromping though knee deep snow to look at property in anticipation of new tenants... especially in the short term rental game. With hunger rumbling loud and clear, the boss and I headed over to Rocky's for some world class burgers. After a short look over the menu, both the boss and I chose bacon cheeseburgers. We walk into this cute little cafe. Starving after a long amazing day of fishing. We are greeting at the cash register by a waitress with a frown looking at her watch. ''We close in 50 minutes, everyone is cutting it right on the line today'' hoping we walk out. I would understand if we came in with 10 minutes to spare but 50? No excuse to be rude. We are seated and pick out what we would like immediately to accommodate the not so accommodating waitress. Well the waitress must have been in to much of a rush, because it took a while to take our order. When we went to order they were out of almost everything. She would let us order then happily shoot down our order. If she is trying to get us out of there in time why wouldn't you let us know you are not going to be serving 75% of your menu. After doing the hokie pokie we finally were able to find something they had on the menu. The waitress spent the entire time out food was cooking staring at the cooks and she only gave us our salads a few minutes before our food came out. Which caused yet another delay. Food was better than the service. Calamari - good order that Chicken fried steak - used over salted brown gravy, mash potatoes appear to be boxed potatoes. Carrots appeared to be canned. I didn't hear any complaints about the burger or shrimp basket. As we walked out the waitress made a point to open the door after we left it had closed and scream at the top of her lungs "I'm locking you out!!!!!" After we had given a way to generous tip for her terrible service. "People will never forget the way you made them feel" I will remember this cafe forever for the way they made us feel. read more

This is our little restaurant in our 2nd home area. I want it to be awesome. It's decent. Room for improvement for sure. The food is a hit or miss and the poor waitress was super stressed out because she was alone with a few tables. Not her fault but it made the experience less than favorable. Will we go back? Rocky's is a nice little spot along the highway, whether traveling through to Homer, or northward to Anchorage. We stopped in on our way south after starting to hear our bellies rumbling. The only ding against Rocky's was the timeliness of their service. We sat ourselves and waited nearly 15 minutes until the waitress was able to take our orders. Nothing against her...she was running all over the place, stretched too thin. Rocky's would benefit from adding another server to the payroll. The food here is as expected. Not a five star restaurant, but not a dive either. Expect greasy food that sticks to your ribs and allows you to make it to your next destination without stopping for food again. If I had the choice, I would drop by again. Pro tip: order the tater tots, not the fries. read more

I've been to this place numerous times, the store is great, the restaurant not so much-waitresses are friendly to guys. I watched 2 tables of ladies sit there waiting-they just throw their food on the table & run away! Hardly anybody in the restaurant. They had to get their own silverware, condiments- get their own refills on drinks while waitresses run around offering me free refills and no female gets anything! I saw a couple at a table- she only refilled his drink! Didn't even bothered to acknowledge there's someone else sitting there. Normally, my husband and I really love this place; ESPECIALLY the coconut cream pie! We were delighted yesterday when we were told they had coconut cream pie so decided to sit for 2 slices. We were served chocolate cream pie despite there being an entire coconut cream pie (the one with the toasted coconut on top of the whipped cream versus the one we were served that had chocolate shavings on top of the whipped cream) on display in the cabinet. We could not convince our waitress she was serving us chocolate cream pie. She was adamant the pie she was serving was "their coconut cream pie" and that both pies in the cabinet were exactly the same. My husband has a sensitivity to chocolate and we would NOT have ordered pie with chocolate. It was so odd an experience. The delicious coconut cream pie right before our eyes with a server convinced the chocolate cream pie she was serving was the same as coconut cream pie. Their food is good here. The CHOCOLATE CREAM PIE had a cream cheese style base that was very good... It's just not what we ordered. We left confused and for the first time very dissatisfied. read more

I have been waiting a long time to say this: Rocky's Cafe rocks your face. I was blown away by the changes that have happened at the Kasilof Mercantile. I havent been in there for years because it was kind of a dump. But now? Bright, cheery and looking like the tourist trap/locals pit stop it should be! But lets not confuse that with the restaurant, which I give all credit to. We stopped in here for a bite before fishing. Not only did they have REAL, AUTHENTIC Alaskan cuisine like Caribou (say it: CARE UH BOO) and Salmon, but the menu was so funny that we spent too long reading and had to get one to take with us, just to finish! Written by Rocky himself, the description of the items will have you rolling on the floor, or at least rolling your eyes at the clever puns. I quote: "Swisshroom Burger: Almost as fun to order as it is to eat, this burger's name was created by melting the words swiss and mushroom together. Swisshroom. Swisshroom! Say it fast three times and you sound like an extraterrestrial washing maching battling a jealous chainsaw on a pogo stick for the undying love of an invisible ice maiden from Outer Kentucky. You feel me? Oh, yeah." This just proves the old stoner adage "I get all my best ideas when Im high!" Who could possibly understand food any better? I WILL be back for dessert! read more

Great little hidden gem! It doesn't look like anything but a mom and pop dinner on the side of the road but we went here twice in a week we were so happy with the food! The halibet fish and chips were the best we had all week and their pizzas are so good! Smokehouse pizza has to be tried! Little slow service since it is a small place and food takes longer from the kitchen but good solid food and has a convinence store attached if you need other stuff there! We stopped for lunch and had two seafood sandwiches. The menu stated crab, shrimp, and provolone. I had mine with fries the best part of the $16.99 meal the grilled cheese sandwich with fake krab, bay shrimp, and a little crab crabmeat was barely edible. I guess truth in menu advertising doesn't exist up here. I figure they had a 18/20% food cost......but the fries were delicious and if they hadn't tossed all the other debris from the fryer in the fries I may have given them 2 however service was good and my buddy said the milkshake was great.....save your money buy something else. read more

Horrible experience, horrible waitress, horrible looks and stares from the locals. From the beginning we entered the diner and the store clerk was very friendly. Sadly that was the one and only friendly face we interacted with for our 30 minute wait. One server, elderly and on the verge of a nervous breakdown any minute immediately upon seeing us yelled about letting her clean tables before sitting down. The server sat us by the door isolated from the rest of the patrons in the restaurant. Locals walked in and we received the most awkward, Un-welcomed and annoyed looks from everyone. After about 15 minutes, we told the server we were ready, and she snapped about how busy she is. Other families walked in and they were seated in the dining area, another worker came out to greet them and explain the menu. Really off putting and odd experience in soldotna. I would never recommend anyone coming here. It seems strictly local only , the type of stuff you see in movies. We left after 42 minutes. No tip. read more

This little cafe is off the Sterling Highway and the sign is from the show Northern Exposure. Looks just like Roslyn's cafe. It's tucked inside the gift shop and you seat yourself. It's very clean and the service is friendly. Not super fast so don't eat here if you're in a hurry. But, sit back and relax and enjoy the food. I had a patty melt and it was cooked to perfection and to my picky palate. Golden brown rye bread and a big juicy burger and served with tater tots (bonus). The hubby had Philly Cheesesteak, but it had melted mozzarella instead of the original processed cheese. Not that that is a bad thing though. We then topped it off with huckleberry cheesecake ice cream. Delicious! If you get the chance, stop here and grab a greasy bite to eat. Put the diet on hold. read more
