We had a wonderful stay for our second visit to Rodeway Inn! Checking in was pretty easy. The man at the desk was fast and directed us to where our room was. I like the location, especially because it is next door to Awful Annie's, which is an amazing breakfast/ brunch restaurant worth the best Bloody Mary's around! We also decided to stay here because the Annual Rib Cookoff in Auburn was the next day. After we checked into our super clean room with 2 queen beds, we went out to dinner(for our one year anniversary). When we got back to our room, the TV wouldn't connect. We phone the front desk, and the nice man that checked us in came up and fixed it for us and also pointed us to the ice machine (no ice buckets available). Our beds were comfy, sheets were clean, and pillows were fluffy. The table and rolling chair were very clean(this time). Again, they have great channels available for your needs. The next morning, you can go to their main office, but take the elevator to the next floor so you can enjoy their hot complimentary breakfast. I had an English muffin with eggs and bacon worth hot sauce & ketchup on it. They also have fruit, yogurt, muffins, and other breads available. They even have a pancake machine! We absolutely enjoyed our stay here. I do look forward to staying in Auburn again at the Rodeway Inn! read more

I made a huge mistake booking this place before reading the reviews. I booked a non-smoking room through Choice Hotels last month for a work trip. This place was the worst. It smelled of stale smoke, had old, filthy carpets, and a cockroach was running down the bathroom door. I was ready to leave ASAP. But my husband, tired from driving, said it wouldn't hurt for one night. Wrong, it would hurt my sense of peace and comfort! Then we started searching everywhere for more bugs. I saw a small spot on the wall and walked toward it to inspect it. My husband put his finger toward it and said it was probably a hole in the wall. It was a baby cockroach, and he almost touched it! I quickly booked a room at another place down the road and found peace there. The only star is for the front desk clerk. He quickly canceled our reservation and checked us out with an apology letter. I didn't waste time taking pictures, and I've never enjoyed a hot shower as much as I did at the other hotel. read more

Giving this 2-stars and not 1 because the hotel receptionist named Robert far exceeded expectation! He was busy assisting numerous guests by himself and was exceptionally professional, kind, patient and efficient. Kudos to this venue for hiring him!! However, not even Robert can perform miracles required to make this hotel worth more than a 1-star rating. Despite what appears to be an attempt to "upgrade " the hallways and rooms, there were a lot of uncomfortable issues. Specifically in room #217 when I arrived there were towels and sheets with stains, wrinkled pillow cases, making the notion they may not have been previously cleaned plausible; along with wet carpet under the sink from an obvious leak, tacky mismatched paint patches on the bathroom walls, hair on the shower walls(!), toilet unflushed with toilet paper in bowl (sparing viewers of that pic), loose shower fixture, stained chairs and busted dresser- not even a thrift store would sell, and small stain splatters along the walls. All of these issues were inside one room. Outside, in the 2nd floor hallway next to the elevator it was apparent staff rarely bothered to clean the window sill and air conditioning unit. Don't stay here unless you absolutely must. I ended up with ~15 bed bug bites (or from some other pest) within 12 hours of leaving this motel, likely from my pillow. Besides this, the place was very dated and unwelcoming. My family was stuck on I-80 due to road closures and every other decent place was booked so we had no other option in the area. I would not recommend this motel to anyone who doesn't have my taste because it's a bit run down and funky and beat about by time. But I've stayed here a week and I love it. It feels like home. I guess that's because my home, like me is a bit run down, funky and beat about by time. The super positives are: Covered parking right next to the small lobby where you get on a tiny creaky elevator that is the ONLY access to your room. So very secure feeling and great in inclement weather. Had quite a few glitches with the tv boxes that you have to reset constantly but the staff has always been friendly and available and helpful It's situated amongst some of the best eating in Auburn- you've got Ikeda and Awful Annie's right next door and a Raley's a block away. It's economical. All in all, it's now my favorite place to stay in Northern California and I'll be coming back often. You probably wouldn't like it though. read more

Wanted to stay in Grass Valley, but all the hotels were full for a world music fest. So I called here and got a room in Auburn. Its right off the freeway so I asked for a room off the highway. It was quiet enough. My problem was I walked into the room after a hot July day at 1000 at night and the room was unbearably hot. I opened the door and windows and turned the cooler on, but was unable to fall asleep until around midnight and even then I did not sleep well. When I checked in there were no customers in the lobby, but the attendant had me wait because someone else was coming back. I had to wait a few minutes until the person came back and then wait through all of his questions. It was annoying considering I could have checked in and been done before the other person even got back. In the morning breakfast was onlyl cheerios or raisin bran and it was on the second floor of the main building. I asked the front desk where it was and they said upstairs and I asked where the elevator was and they said right there. It was a across the room in the lobby. Their computers are super slow checking in and checking out, we didn't bother to wait for a receipt when we left because it was taking too long. We got great customer service at the front desk and we were given a new room upstairs. Upon arrival in the new room, we looked in the bathroom to find old poop and a dirty toilet. There were no cockroaches and it smelled clean. Good enough. We enjoyed our stay for the night. The next day I went for breakfast and they had a decent selection but what really stood out was the coffee. It wasn't watered down like it usually is at other hotels that offer breakfast. Easy parking, check-in and a hot breakfast in the morning to boot. The pool and jacuzzi area--while small--look inviting, especially during warmer summer temps. The Inn is sandwiched perfectly between two landmark Auburn pit stops: Ikeda's & Awful Annies, just steps away from each. I truly want to thank this hotel for their wonderful care and kindness for a family that had no place else to turn. Of course financially everything was done according to their normal course of business, but in every other way to accommodate and care for a family in need in our community was heartwarming. Within 5 min of arriving to my room I sat on the bed to eat and noticed roaches on the lampshade and another on carpet. I then killed the roaches and went to flush them and saw another run across the bathroom floor then noticed public hair in the shower. I reported these findings the next morning to a lady named Betty she seemed miserable and grumpy. She said she'd move me later because there were no rooms available at the time. I told her that's fine because I'm leaving for the day. When I returned the night clerk named Dee seemed like another miserable soul she kept complaining that Betty never told her anything and she'd bang the keyboard and mumble things under her breath. She then said she had no king size beds to move me into so I'd have to take a room with two queens I said that's okay all I wanted was a clean room at this point. When I arrived in the new room the front door lock was busted and just spun, there was no toilet paper, no shampoo, and the comforter on the bed was full of black spots. I went to speak with the front desk in the morning and the woman Bonnie was a little nicer but seemed to blame me for not letting them know at 2 am my new room was in disarray again. She told me to contact the manager on Monday. I did that and he said there's nothing he can do about it. He didn't seem to care much and just told me to contact choice hotels. They denied blame and passed it back to the manager and refused to refund me instead offered me some silly choice points to save towards another stay. I will never stay in this dump again. The location is excellent between Bay Area and Tahoe region for our ski trip. The room was relatively spacious and beds were pretty comfortable. However the air conditioning (the heater) was very noisy. I had to wake up and turn it off in the middle of the night because of the noise was unbearable eventually. Breakfast was unsoohiticated but okay. The server was friendly. The worst part was the little cockroach in the bathroom. This little nuisance appeared in the bathtub floor mat after I finished shower. I took pictures and video before I terminated it! Very unpleasant and unsanitary. Hmmm. Ok. The place didn't have room numbers so that was confusing. I had to go out into the parking area for ice and there was no ice in the machine, so they had to provide at the front desk. Do Not Stay Here: 2 night stay 3 rooms because something was wrong in every room. The first room had duct tape in the freezer to hold the items in the door, blood stains on the towels and no pictures on any walls in the room. I called the front desk 3 times and no answer. The second room we couldn't get into our room because the door handle broke and had no towels at all in the room so we had to wait. The third room things start to get better until I go to turn on the TV. I call the front desk, guy says I'll be right up, comes up and can't fix the TV so... No TV! Good for a budget | Clean | Friendly Staff | Fast Service Quick Points:$ -pet friendly, stayed one night -clean -fast service -internet was not the greatest -conveniently located across from Ikeda's We needed a place to stay for one night that was close to the Auburn Quarry. (Yeah, we do some filming as our side business, so one of our events was filming at that location.) We found this place on Yelp under pet-friendly places to stay. There's a $15 pet fee per pet per night, but I think in the end they only charged me $10 after looking at my bank statement. (Thanks, guys) It's not like every nook and cranny is clean because, at least in our room, it wasn't the newest building, but it was clean enough that it didn't make you cringe at the sight of it. We had all of our soap, instant coffees, cups, towels, and everything else you expect to be there waiting for you when you arrive. Also, they have 4 pillows for each bed (we had the 2 queen bedroom because the 1 king bedroom wasn't ready when we wanted to check in early, which is completely okay with us). Fast service checking in and checking out. No complaints. And, the people at the desk seemed pleasant. The one thing we had a problem with, but didn't really mind anyway, was the Internet connection process. I think you only have access to the wifi for 24 hours before you need to ask for their code at the front desk again. It's not the fastest connection either, but we waited until we got home. They also provide a cord connection, but we didn't use it because we had trouble with it and decided to just call the front desk for the wifi password instead. Ikeda's is my favorite place to go grab some snacks or a quick bite to eat before heading up to Tahoe or Grass Valley/Nevada City. And, the fact that it is conveniently located right across the street made me give this place another plus, haha. read more

After browsing the reviews here, I expected issues. But there were none. Everything seems perfect, including the price. I had hoped to make it over Donner Pass before the snow was bad. No such luck! The storm rolled in faster than I planned, and so here I am stuck in the Auburn area. I found this place just off the freeway, and was checked in promptly and politely. The front desk clerk gave me a King size bed, and when I entered my room I was pleasantly surprised how spacious it was. So awful we only stayed 4 hrs. We stayed here Friday night after making reservations online when the I80 was closed by snow. Everyone waiting in line at the front desk (at midnight) had a reservation held by a credit card yet it still took the clerk **90 minutes** to get to us, and we weren't last. When we finally got to our room, at 1:30am, it was disgusting! The toilet had pee all over it, the bathroom floor was sticky, there was something that looked like bird droppings between the 2 beds, and it smelled. The staff was friendly, there is a few covered parking spots and a hot breakfast in the morning (eggs, sausage and a waffle station.) Do not stay here. I repeat: Do. Not. Stay. Here. Beyond being the filthiest place I have every stayed, it also seemed sketchy as far as safety goes. I wish I had had time to take pictures, but we were only in the room for a very short period of time (thank goodness). The bathroom clearly hadn't been cleaned with hair on the towels, something on the toilet (my husband cleaned it, and we are trying hard not to think about what it could have been), there was a razor cartridge on the floor, and there was a piece of food (bacon, perhaps?) still on top of the microwave. The beds were made, so the room had been "attended" to, but it was appallingly disgusting. The only reason we stayed for the few hours we did is because we were out of time and were only in the room for a few short hours, but I would never stay here again for a bazillion dollars. I wish I could post video because the outside lights above each room door do a horror film creepy blinking routine that didn't exactly scream "safe." My last stay here the TV remote wasn't working, and the room was grungy. When I asked to be moved to a room where the TV would work, I was switched to a room where I found leftover food in the refrigerator. It was a week old, based on the date on the deli label on the wrapper. I took that down to the desk and barely got an apology. One lamp was missing a bulb...it was just nasty. Especially when the price was still close to $100 with a discount. I was going to stay here again just to attend the Draft Horse show in Grass Valley, but that was canceled. I changed my vacation plans to LA and stayed at a Rodeway Inn in Glendale that was immaculate, with very pleasant and friendly innkeepers and great restaurant next door that gave us 10% off meals for staying at that Rodeway. Such a radical difference in motels for similar price! Choice hotels should maintain some form of consistency or at least standards for it's motels. I'm going to have to consider finding a different motel to stay at in the Auburn area if nothing is done to refurbish/renovate this Rodeway Inn. It's in desperate need. read more

It's a Quality Inn so expectations were low. I kept waiting to stumble across at least one major problem: a broken AC unit, TV that doesn't work, stained bedding, hooker in the mattress etc. But nothing! A perfectly clean, perfectly functional and actually NICE hotel! I am almost disappointed I don't have something to bitch about. Service was friendly. The room was real clean and well-maintained. Everything worked. The TV came with literally about 300 channels, many of which were premium like 4 different HBO's. The bed was firm but springy and the bathroom was nigh spotless. The biggest downside is a sort of sad looking building. Who cares? Not I. Especially when there's a kick-ass market only steps away with tons of hand-crafted goodness including killer pies and muffins. Breakfast is the typical powdered eggs and waffle-maker fare. It's in an odd location, being served in a gutted hotel room. You also cannot take food out of the room for your sleepyhead companions, but this isn't a huge deal imo. Rates were very reasonable. Stay. Feel good about your Choice Rewards membership for a refreshing change. read more

Do Not stay here!!! Our bathroom toilet leaked during the night and we were unable to use the toilet or shower. When we notified the front desk, we asked for a partial or full refund. They were unable to do that until the manager came in. We were told he would contact Expedia and then contact us. He never did; Expedia tried contacting him, he was never available after 5 attempts from Expedia. Expedia could no longer help me, so after all that, no acknowledgement from Rodeway I only have this review. Called and the coffee pot and ice bucket was brought to us, we didn't notice the towel situation until late at night. When we walked into the room the pillows were just sitting on the edge of the bed like they had been tossed there.nail holes in the walls, carpet needed cleaning, furniture was stained and This was not what I would call a "quality" experience. The hotel has rented out a room which had no curtains but only see through sheers. Hence it did not prevent the early morning light coming into the room. The whole family including me were deeply disturbed and could not get proper sleep. Apparently this room was one of few rooms which were changed for photo shoot and staff did not put the curtains back. This room should never been rented out till the curtains were put back. On top of that, despite the staff assurances multiple times, the manager never called to explain on how this happened and listen to our concerns. read more

After calling several other hotels in the area that did not have availability for an 18 night stay I called Quality Inn and I WISH I would have called them first. Would have saved me so much head ache. Not only did they have the availability, but after initially offering me $72/night the front desk asked if she could call me back when the manager arrived to see if she could lower the rate even more. After waiting a few minutes I was called back and offered $50/night! It is amazing when companies such as this one go out of their way to make sure you are taken care of.
