Giving this 2-stars and not 1 because the hotel receptionist named Robert far exceeded expectation! He was busy assisting numerous guests by himself and was exceptionally professional, kind, patient and efficient. Kudos to this venue for hiring him!! However, not even Robert can perform miracles required to make this hotel worth more than a 1-star rating. Despite what appears to be an attempt to "upgrade " the hallways and rooms, there were a lot of uncomfortable issues. Specifically in room #217 when I arrived there were towels and sheets with stains, wrinkled pillow cases, making the notion they may not have been previously cleaned plausible; along with wet carpet under the sink from an obvious leak, tacky mismatched paint patches on the bathroom walls, hair on the shower walls(!), toilet unflushed with toilet paper in bowl (sparing viewers of that pic), loose shower fixture, stained chairs and busted dresser- not even a thrift store would sell, and small stain splatters along the walls. All of these issues were inside one room. Outside, in the 2nd floor hallway next to the elevator it was apparent staff rarely bothered to clean the window sill and air conditioning unit. Please refer attached images for much of what I've mentioned in this review.

It is an older hotel and definitely needs some updates: the elevator is about the size of a closet and someone's car alarm woke me up at 3:41 am. The upside was it was conveniently located by food and the freeway. The employees were polite and efficient.

I love this hotel for the price, I'm always staying at different places for weeks at a time because I'm a dump truck driver, the main things I love are the full breakfast and good water pressure lol oh and they pay for all the channels hbo music channels you name it... and also they're always nice about me and my 4 coworkers parking our dump trucks there... definitely recommend

Good air conditioning, window facing the pool.

Wanted to stay in Grass Valley, but all the hotels were full for a world music fest. So I called here and got a room in Auburn. Its right off the freeway so I asked for a room off the highway. It was quiet enough. My problem was I walked into the room after a hot July day at 1000 at night and the room was unbearably hot. I opened the door and windows and turned the cooler on, but was unable to fall asleep until around midnight and even then I did not sleep well. When I checked in there were no customers in the lobby, but the attendant had me wait because someone else was coming back. I had to wait a few minutes until the person came back and then wait through all of his questions. It was annoying considering I could have checked in and been done before the other person even got back. In the morning breakfast was onlyl cheerios or raisin bran and it was on the second floor of the main building. I asked the front desk where it was and they said upstairs and I asked where the elevator was and they said right there. It was a across the room in the lobby. Their computers are super slow checking in and checking out, we didn't bother to wait for a receipt when we left because it was taking too long. I would try somewhere else before making a reservation here. The cost was $99 for two queens for one night.

The place is a dump.... My biggest problem was there was a infestation of fly's In the room... I seriously got rid of about ten of them and in the middle of the night there was suddenly another 10-15 fly's.... Also the room is a dump

Within 5 min of arriving to my room I sat on the bed to eat and noticed roaches on the lampshade and another on carpet. I then killed the roaches and went to flush them and saw another run across the bathroom floor then noticed public hair in the shower. I reported these findings the next morning to a lady named Betty she seemed miserable and grumpy. She said she'd move me later because there were no rooms available at the time. I told her that's fine because I'm leaving for the day. When I returned the night clerk named Dee seemed like another miserable soul she kept complaining that Betty never told her anything and she'd bang the keyboard and mumble things under her breath. She then said she had no king size beds to move me into so I'd have to take a room with two queens I said that's okay all I wanted was a clean room at this point. When I arrived in the new room the front door lock was busted and just spun, there was no toilet paper, no shampoo, and the comforter on the bed was full of black spots. I went to speak with the front desk in the morning and the woman Bonnie was a little nicer but seemed to blame me for not letting them know at 2 am my new room was in disarray again. She told me to contact the manager on Monday. I did that and he said there's nothing he can do about it. He didn't seem to care much and just told me to contact choice hotels. They denied blame and passed it back to the manager and refused to refund me instead offered me some silly choice points to save towards another stay. I will never stay in this dump again. Be warned!

Cockroach on the floor mat in the bathroom!

The location is excellent between Bay Area and Tahoe region for our ski trip. The room was relatively spacious and beds were pretty comfortable. However the air conditioning (the heater) was very noisy. I had to wake up and turn it off in the middle of the night because of the noise was unbearable eventually. Breakfast was unsoohiticated but okay. The server was friendly. The worst part was the little cockroach in the bathroom. This little nuisance appeared in the bathtub floor mat after I finished shower. I took pictures and video before I terminated it! Very unpleasant and unsanitary. The front desk promised the manager would contact me for this matter but never did. It was unprofessional and I was Very disappointed. Travelers be aware!

I found this when i opened the freezer Do not say here, i found much more wrong

Do Not Stay Here: 2 night stay 3 rooms because something was wrong in every room. The first room had duct tape in the freezer to hold the items in the door, blood stains on the towels and no pictures on any walls in the room. I called the front desk 3 times and no answer. The second room we couldn't get into our room because the door handle broke and had no towels at all in the room so we had to wait. The third room things start to get better until I go to turn on the TV. I call the front desk, guy says I'll be right up, comes up and can't fix the TV so... No TV! Last but not least, I go up to the front desk and the lady is on the phone with corporate and leaves me standing there for literally 20. I liked through two magazines waiting while she never said a word to me. Finally I walked out! Don't do it!!

Nice big bed and spacious room!

Nicely decorated and again, that bed was so so comfy. If you are under 5'8" you may need a step stool to get in the bed! It can be noisy with the freeway and train nearby but we weren't bothered by it. There is a huge fountain outside the window that helps. This would be a great place for a small wedding or family reunion... the whole place is inviting and cozy. I am sure the grounds are gorgeous in the spring! Upon arrival, we were given 3 key cards for one room and 2 for the other room. The grooms mom had put together a gift bag for each room so we received 2 - one for my room and one for the other room. We both left ours with the receptionist's while we went to our cars to bring our luggage up to our rooms. We forgot to grab them before we headed out for the night but assumed they would be held for us. Imagine my disappointment, when I went to go grab it later that night, that I was informed the other couple we checked in with, the girl had grabbed them. We didn't check in with a couple but we did with another female who was roomed with another female not present. Our male friend showed up as we were leaving to our cars so maybe the assumption was there but neither of them had the bags. I was told that an unknown female must have grabbed them and that one of the make receptionists thought each guest in each room was supposed to have 1 vs. 1 per room. There was only 7 left and they were for the guests checking in tomorrow. We were given the option for extra points to our account or free breakfast which we took. Food was aright but I would have eaten elsewhere had I known better. I'm knocking stars down because it was the sentimental loss of not having the bags the night prior to the wedding. I found out later that one of the groomsmen didn't get a bag so it was definitely a downer. The shower upon turning on the water had hair floating and leftover soap/shampoo was visible. I had to run the shower for a bit before going in. We were given bedding without downing at my request due to asthma and allergies and we were far from the elevator and we were on the top floor near the bride and groom and some of the groomsmen which was perfect! Convenient location with in n out down below and we were given one coupon for complimentary nonalcoholic / alcoholic beverage at Maxs restaurant.

The retro aesthetic is incredible. It has that perfect vintage roadside charm, but with a modern, fresh, recently renovated feel that is very well done. The rooms are big, warm, clean, and super comfortable. I loved everything about the design, from the spacious layout to the stylish finishes. The bathroom and shower are huge, the bed is incredibly comfy, and the large TV and private patio really made it feel like a boutique stay rather than a typical motel. The staff was genuinely friendly and welcoming, and the location is excellent. You're within walking distance of great food and drinks, including The Lounge at Foothill Bowl, which was such a fun spot. The 10 percent discount I got there thanks to staying at Foothills Motel was a really nice perk. There are also great nearby options for Japanese, Mexican, and Beach Hut Deli, so you're set for whatever you're craving. One of my favorite parts was the exterior. The property is beautifully designed, and at night it lights up in such a cool, classic way that it's worth taking a walk around just to admire it. If you love retro style, comfort, and friendly local hospitality, Foothills Motel is a must stay in Auburn. I'll absolutely be back.

They even have Tesla chargers if needed. - Rooms: This was one of the instances where the pictures of the room were just as / if not nicer in person. Our room (a deluxe king) felt incredibly spacious, had a nice patio, and a beautiful bathroom (with great lighting and 10/10 shower pressure). The attention to detail was fantastic- retro-style appliances including an ice bucket, picnic bucket for the pool, mugs, glassware, keurig, a good sized fridge / freezer (much larger than a mini fridge and substantial freezer space was a huge perk given we were able to pick up and store groceries). Additionally, the rooms were fairly quiet given the location of the motel- I've stayed in much pricier/fancier spots that are much noisier with thinner walls. - Location: I don't think I realized just how close to the highway the motel was when we booked it- but even so, the motel felt cozy, safe, and tucked away despite its proximity. The area was close to all of the things we wanted to do/see (rafting, explore the city, dine, etc.), walking distance to quite a few tasty restaurants, along with a few steps from the bowling alley- I believe you also get 10% off at the bowling alley & restaurant. It's also right across the way from Ikeda's (best market for groceries, drinks, and the most amazing meat pies). The charming downtown is only about a 5-6 minute drive. Staff: Glen was simply wonderful. I called to see what time the office closed since we'd be arriving late- past 10 pm- and he assured us he'd be there until 11 and even if we arrived later we could buzz for the evening management who'd get us checked in. Sure enough, Glen was there when we arrived, could not have been nicer / more welcoming, and gave us some great recommendations. He started our trip off on the best foot possible and we were so appreciative. The housekeeping staff we met were also absolutely lovely. Overall, we had a spectacular time at Foothills Motel...so much so that we decided to book it for Labor Day (just 2 weeks later). We can't wait to return on Friday!

From my memory in youth they were always decent to well kept establishments. So after an impulsive trip from Reno to Sacramento one day I was headed back to Reno and decided to not drive through the mountains in the dark of night. I saw the Red Lion on the list of places to stay and decided yep that's the one. I pulled in and went to the counter. The check in process was efficient so no complaints there. I walk upstairs and down the hall a bit dazzled by the dated carpet and the random sequencing of room numbers. The sequencing is still a bit bewildering. I get to my room and none of the bedside plugs works. I ascertain that well... none of the plugs are plugged in to make the things work. I take it upon myself to rectify the issue and pull the bed away from the wall and realize why they are not plugged in. Well the outlet is only half secured into the wall. I plug it in anyways and push the bed back. Success! Plugs now work on the night stands. After I settle down I go to take a shower. I am greeted by paint peeling off the walls and dirty switch covers. I then start the shower to abysmal water pressure. This is likely because the rear of the shower head connection puts out as much water as the shower head itself. On the bright side the bed was comfortable to my liking anyways. Not a rock and just soft enough to relax into. Now allegedly there is breakfast but at this point I don't know that I even wanna risk it for the biscuit. I have already renamed this place in my mind as no longer the Red Lion but simply The Mangy Lion instead. I would recommend a revamp of The Mangy Lion to restore it to its former prominence as a Red Lion.
