I grew up in Auburn and we are planning a visit to see my dad... I was trying to decide between the Vista Sierra and this place. After just one call to the Holiday Inn, I knew I was making the right choice. I spoke to a lovely person named Wongie who was very helpful and accommodating. He seriously went above and beyond to help me reserve rooms for two different nights (not in a row)... As well as assist me in making the reservation that someone else is paying for :-) So this review is basically based off of customer service. I was also impressed by the reviews that I have read about this place on TripAdvisor and Yelp. It appears that this hotel is currently the number one hotel in Auburn. Booked our rooms a few months ago for a wedding that was about 15 minutes away. Our stay was a 2 queen sized room, with fridge, microwave, ironing board, iron, makeup remover and hair dryer. No toothbrush or toothpaste in the room but you can ask at the front desk. Upon arrival, we were given 3 key cards for one room and 2 for the other room. The grooms mom had put together a gift bag for each room so we received 2 - one for my room and one for the other room. We both left ours with the receptionist's while we went to our cars to bring our luggage up to our rooms. We forgot to grab them before we headed out for the night but assumed they would be held for us. Imagine my disappointment, when I went to go grab it later that night, that I was informed the other couple we checked in with, the girl had grabbed them. We didn't check in with a couple but we did with another female who was roomed with another female not present. Our male friend showed up as we were leaving to our cars so maybe the assumption was there but neither of them had the bags. I was told that an unknown female must have grabbed them and that one of the make receptionists thought each guest in each room was supposed to have 1 vs. 1 per room. There was only 7 left and they were for the guests checking in tomorrow. We were given the option for extra points to our account or free breakfast which we took. Food was aright but I would have eaten elsewhere had I known better. I'm knocking stars down because it was the sentimental loss of not having the bags the night prior to the wedding. I found out later that one of the groomsmen didn't get a bag so it was definitely a downer. The shower upon turning on the water had hair floating and leftover soap/shampoo was visible. I had to run the shower for a bit before going in. We were given bedding without downing at my request due to asthma and allergies and we were far from the elevator and we were on the top floor near the bride and groom and some of the groomsmen which was perfect! Convenient location with in n out down below and we were given one coupon for complimentary nonalcoholic / alcoholic beverage at Maxs restaurant. read more

Check-in was very easy. As a diamond elite member, my husband receives priority parking and the option to have complimentary breakfast or points. He chose the breakfast. With the hotel on a hill, there are two floors with entrances. Max's Bar and Grille is on the second floor, open to the public as well. There is a functional fitness center, though no laundry service. The pool isn't heated but there is a hot tub. The pool deck is very well kept and clean. The fire pit is nice to sit by on a cold night, and the sculptures enhance the outer decor without being too much. Our room was functional and clean--no bedbugs (very important), all the faucets worked and had hot water (also important), and there were no weird smells. The room comes with a microwave, refrigerator, and kuerig. Personally, the bed was too firm for me, but those were nice pillows, and my husband and I didn't need to steal each other's pillows. We were here for three days and two nights, and I can't think of a single complaint. The stay was an absolute delight. read more

Had a beautiful stay here in winter on a short visit. Staff was very friendly and that stone counter at check-in was gorgeous. My room was super quiet and everything was great, no complaints (except for subpar toilet that always required two flushes). Restaurant onsite was really good, too. Rebekah welcomed us with a cheery attitude and gave us a nice room on the first floor as we were checking in early. There is a pool that is worth hanging out by on a nice day, a restaurant on the second floor named Max's and morning breakfast with omelet bar. The breakfast was 8.99 if we paid ahead of time, but much better than a free breakfast as far as options and atmosphere. Pets are welcome although we didn't have ours with us, but there were doggy "pick-up" bags and trash cans around the grass areas. We look forward to exploring the town of Auburn tomorrow, as we have a wedding tonight. So far a great place to stay! read more

I've always wanted to explore the historical town of Auburn. It's beautiful and quaint. On arrival, check in was easy. Staff was friendly and informative. BONUS ! Complimentary coffee at check in. Holiday Inn Auburn has a well received restaurant/bar arnamed Max's. In addition there is an excellent breakfast room. For your enjoyment there to is a fitness room, an outdoor pool, and laundry facilities. The hotel's location is walkable to shops, galleries, and cafés. This hotel was very comfortable & cozy. My husband and I enjoyed their standard king room and it was more than spacious. Everything was very clean, no complaints. Their breakfast blew us away, it's a whole cafe experience, we ordered our own custom omelettes. the bacon and sausage wasn't the cheap rubbery kind, it was made right & so was the french toast. For the price, this place was not good. If it were cheaper, I'd be more forgiving, but even with some discounts we had for our room, it still came out to well over $400 for two nights. The toilets in both our room and my parents' room backed up once each, and we had to call downstairs to request a plunger. They just gave my parents a plunger and a bucket to leave it outside the room in when they were done. When ours backed up, we had to wait for someone to come plunge it for us for some reason (and had to call down twice before he finally arrived). It was really awkward standing around while the poor guy had to plunge our toilet for us because they didn't just want to let him drop off the plunger. On our first night, a large group of people were staying in the room next to us and were loud and obnoxious. They were keeping their door open because there were too many of them to be in there comfortably together, so all their noise was coming out into the hallway. They also kept coming and going from the room. It was almost 1:00 am when I finally decided to call down and ask the front desk to ask them to quiet down. To the receptionist's credit, he immediately contacted them and they instantly got conspicuously quieter, but it was a while longer before they shut up entirely. The breakfast buffet was mostly pretty good (it gets *very* busy), with tasty customizable scrambles and bacon cooked as ordered, but the cereal was super stale and the breakfast potatoes were bland. We were here for my cousin's wedding, so they reserved a block of rooms at this hotel for out-of-town guests to book at a reduced rate. But again, the rooms were still pricey despite the discount, and I don't feel they were worth it given some of the issues we experienced. You're paying for the convenience of staying in a clean, decent place close to more remote wedding venues, but these guys need to step it up. read more

This Holiday inn is getting a very rare five-star review. I may have never given a five-star review for a Holiday inn. The staff were absolutely fantastic. Check in was a breeze, and the front desk could not have been more helpful. The desk clerk always addresses you when you walk by with a friendly hello. The room was a bit dated, but very comfortable. Air conditioning worked well. Plenty of electrical plugs for charging devices. Never able to get the Wi-Fi to work on my laptop, but it worked on the phone okay. Fortunately, T-Mobile has a good fast 5G signal so I was able to use my own Wi-Fi hotspot. Very nice swimming pool and hot tub deck with a large outdoor area for picnics and family events. Location is ultraconvenient for hiking or rafting on the American River. Only about a 10 minute walk to Old Town Auburn. Don't make the mistake I made and walk toward Auburn City Center. That is not Old Town or downtown, it is an ugly strip mall. Location is also very convenient for interstate 80. Judging from the little note in the room offering complimentary sleep kits, I get the impression some customers might complain about freeway noise. My room, 229, was completely silent. Best of all, this hotel offered daily housekeeping service even on a 2 night stay. I asked for housekeeping between 12 and 12:30, and they showed up right on time. Unfortunately I wasn't quite ready, so they kindly pushed my housekeeping until 1:00 p.m. Did I mention, free parking? If you're up for a weekend to get away from the San Francisco Bay Area, this is the best place to stay. read more

I was excited when I won a date night package back in August last year, which included a 2 night stay here at the Holiday Inn. It had an expiration date of February 25th. With more family complications than expected came along... I had thankfully been in contact with Lori Swift, the general manager. She was so wonderful, and she extended the expiration date to May 15th. We finally completed our free two night stay this past weekend, and this is how it went. We pulled into the hotel parking lot, which sits up on the hill right behind In-N-Out. We walked into a beautiful, clean lobby. We checked in with Matt at the front desk. He was welcoming, full of energy, and friendly. He informed us about breakfast and where it was. The cost is $11.99, but if you know the night before if you wanted to go, it was only $8.99. Of course, we decided to give it a try. We were given a parking pass and directed where to park so we would have easy access to our room. As we entered the room, it was dimly lit. Looked clean. The bed had 4 large fluffy pillows, nice clean and not wrinkled bedding(very firm, comfortable beds). We had a mini fridge, microwave, and a mini keurig. There was a desk and a lounge chair, drawers, and a closet with an iron. The bathroom looked clean... they had cute mini Dove bars of soap, shampoo, and lotion. Around 2 a.m, I got up to use the bathroom and stepped on something sharp. Then toilet clogged. There was no reason it should have. Being so late, I didn't feel like calling the front desk at that moment. As we got up in the morning around 8:30 a.m. breakfast, we went to Max's to try their breakfast. The chef was making omelets on the spot. They offered a selection of veggies, bacon, and cheese to go with it. I went to use the restroom while my omelet was made, and it was finished and on the table when I came out. To the right of the room, there were chauffer's with country potatoes, scrambled eggs, French toast, and biscuits. Gravy in its own chauffer. There were cereals, juices, and coffee available. I got a plate with some country potatoes and a biscuit and topped it with gravy. As I sat to start on that, the food was barely warm. Cold biscuits and cold gravy. I pushed it aside and decided to eat my omelet. At least that was hot. When we got back to the room, that's when we remembered to call the front desk for the toilet. When I let maintenance in, he asked me if I wanted to plunge it. NOPE. After he finished, the toilet looked kind of gross, and it stayed that way. That's when I went to jump in the shower, and I noticed there was a smear of FECES near the toilet paper. We were beyond grossed out. We talked to Matt at the front desk and let him know most of the breakfast was not edible bc it was not even kept warm(that can cause a food borne illness of not kept at an appropriate temperature). Then, we told him about the smear of feces in the bathroom. He got someone up there right away to clean it. We didn't even bother trying the restaurant attached to the hotel. We were pretty discouraged by the breakfast offered. I was also disappointed when we checked out. The man at the front desk on Sunday morning stated, "Well, the room was free and you did not pay for breakast..." As if we didn't deserve any better because we did not pay for the days or the food that was not edible. Overall, I don't think I will be back to this hotel in Auburn. They don't know how to clean a room. Maintenance wants me to plunge their toilets. The breakfast offered was not even warm. I was the complete opposite of impressed. For dinner on our second night, we got dinner elsewhere since we were so discouraged by the breakfast. It's absolutely not worth $11.99, let alone $8.99. read more

Recently had a one night stay to attend a wedding nearby. The hotel is easily accessible from the freeway, although right next to In & Out. Good if you want a burger, but lots of traffic. Check-in was good, rooms weren't ready but they swapped us to some that were. Rooms are adequate. Beds decently comfy but pillows very thick. Our bathroom area was awkward. We liked the extra sink, but that narrow area contained the room door and the bathroom door, so it was quite tight to maneuver. Overall fine for the one night stay. read more

This is a wonderful hotel! I wasn't expecting 5 star service from an off highway chain hotel but the Holiday Inn in Auburn surprised all of plus! Our family stayed here to attend a wedding and we were all blown away! Impeccably clean rooms, friendly service from everyone to the person at the lobby desk to the folks in Max's dining room. The chef making omelets was the highlight of our stay. Best omelet I've had in years. I ordered mine with fresh jalapeños, spinach, mushrooms, tomatoes, onions, & a melty cheese blend with a side of two scrumptious pork sausages. My only suggestion would be to make the coffee a bit stronger but it was served super hot on the more than adequate breakfast bar. If I ever need a place to stay in Auburn I will stay here without hesitation & will recommend to all. Great job! read more

I stayed at the holiday in last night with my husband for a friend's wedding. The location is perfect, right off the freeway and next door to in n out- bonus! I did have a minor hiccup with booking through the room block. And by minor I mean I unknowingly booked the night before, missed the reservation and showed up to the hotel without a room... it was beyond stressful if you can imagine. It turned out to happen to a few of us from the same wedding. But the front desk staff was incredible! Every person at the front desk was so pleasant, positive and caring. I'm so thankful because the stress of traveling and attending an out of town wedding was enough, let alone arriving to find out I missed my reservation. Special shoutout to Wongy (not sure about spelling sry!) he was the manager I was eventually connected with the morning after and he absolutely saved the day for us. I was super upset and so stressed about all of the unexpected charges that added up and he made it all right for us. I'm so appreciative of his customer service and attention to detail and extremely grateful for good people like him!! read more

I came here with my husband and 9 year old for two nights on a weekday in July. We would come here again. Pros: -pool was warm, had a lot of towels, not crowded, and had a ping-pong table -very polite staff -room and bathroom were nice, beds comfortable -restaurant food was good -an employee came to make sure the pool area was cleared out at closing so no one could be loud after hours Cons: -the restaurant's host was rude and clearly very bored -the breakfast buffet was the worst hotel food I've ever had. Really helpful/nice staff (shout out to Matt who is so friendly and pleasant), clean rooms and facilities, and the overall interior decor is pretty nice. They also provide complimentary coffee/tea/hot chocolate, which I definitely appreciate! We enjoyed our one night stay here. The only reason I'm not rating this 5 stars is because the AC units in the rooms are annoying. They go on/off all night.. I'm a very picky sleeper and sensitive to noise, so the fact that the on/off sound was happening all night made it a bit challenging to sleep (I was told all the AC works the same in all the rooms). It'd be great if they could have a "constant fan" setting so the background sound can be consistent for sleep. read more

Their lobby is beautiful with amazing stone countertops at reception. Everything was decorated beautifully for the holidays. So we stepped it up from the best western. The rooms are up to date and not new fixtures on old backbone, properly updated. The beds feel new but are very firm, I struggled to get comfortable. The pillows were two to a bed so we didn't have enough to simulate a pillow top. There is a fridge and microwave. The heat AC is fairly quiet, there is road noise but it was quiet enough for me to ignore it. Despite the excellent parking lot lighting, our room was black out perfect. I was here for three nights and really enjoyed my stay. I find the beds at Holiday Inn are probably the most comfortable and these were no exception. The bedding was clean although my only complaint would be it would be nice to have a slightly heavier blanket in the winter. I'm a Woman in my 50s, which means I waffle between manufacturing my own Summer and being ice cold! It would've been nice to have a heavier blanket for the cold portion of my night, but that's pretty nitpicky of me! Staff was very friendly and check out was easy. Once you figure out where the elevators are, it's always good to move your car closer to one of the side exits as it can be a bit of a walk from the front desk to some of the back rooms. We ate at Max's One of the nights we were there in the food was very good while also being reasonably priced. We had intended to eat there again, but the restaurant had closed suddenly and we had to choose somewhere else. This property is located close to downtown as well as too many delicious food options including Katrina's café for breakfast. There is also an In-N-Out Burger that is within walking distance. If I return to Auburn, I will stay here again. read more

Though I just live a 1/2 hour away, I stayed here visiting a friend who wanted to go to the Max's restaurant located here at this Holiday Inn. The famous SF chain of gluttony has a location right here in Auburn and this franchise is actually owned by the Holiday Inn. Most all Holiday Inns are independently owned and operate under the corp rules of Holiday Inn IHG. This is a fine property as far a Holiday Inns go. Not a big fancy hotel like the ones in SF, but still better than a Holiday Inn Express. No free breakfast here though, like at the Express locations, but it's suppose to be more fancy, so you have to pay for a nicer breakfast at Max's Cafe. The staff we interacted with were all friendly and professional. The location is just up the hill behind the In N Out burger, so location wise, if you didn't feel like spending $20 or so on dinner, you can just walk down to the In N Out! The rooms were fine and the WiFi work OK too. Not anything really to complain about. There is also a full bar at the hotel as well, so that can make the stay a little more fun. read more

Wow. What a difference four years can make. (Lived and Hoe'd here for 2 months back in 2013's Shirk Responsibility and Loose Morality Tour) This is a much improved property. Am here for the sinning but certainly can appreciate being stylish, comfortable and clean while breaking a commandment or two. Rooms have been remodeled and brought up to a bit of HGTV-like touchpoints; colors, surfaces, fixtures and such are relatively current and with enough modernity to give a cool vibe without being cold and impersonal. BIG big improvement over the last color, (tuberculosis is a shade, apparently) plasticmica fiberboard surfaces (in contrasting glossy tuberculosis) and lighting (Brass on Laminate Brass with touches of brassy tuberculosis highlighted with a warm glare glaze of migrane all gone!) Love the "reading" lights...flexible LED! Leave your battery charger in the truck and do yer p-hub video basking in its charge saving illumination of that spot, G. K...that's about all for now. It's a Holiday Inn...so yeah. I've stayed here several times out of necessity. Rooms are decent, but there seems to be a lot of cosmetic issues with walls in some rooms (drywall patches, etc). Location is prime; near freeway. If you get certain top-floor rooms, you will hear this noise akin to a semi driving by...you can even feel slight rumbling...maybe an hvac unit on the roof? A little annoying. Auburn is slim pickings when it comes to nice hotels. I guess that leaves this place higher on my list of preferred hotels. Still, not enough for an outstanding review. read more

I was quite surprised with my stay here. FYI: Some of the pics on here are dated as they have had a remodel so look at the more modern looking ones to get a better idea of the place. Anyways, we stayed here bc my brother's wedding was going to be the next day at Foresthill. It is right off the freeway and next to In N out (a plus right there). We had no issues checking in. It was smooth and quick. The girl at the front desk was very nice. She did let us know the building can be confusing but it honestly wasn't that bad, plus they give you a map. Our room was nice and clean. It had a good size TV w/Directv, a mini fridge, a Keurig machine, and Bath n Body Works items in the bathroom. We had a view of the pool and the gym was across from our room, which I appreciated. The gym had complementary disposable headphones, cold water dispenser, towels, sanitary wipes, and a TV. As for equipment, it's limited but does the job. A few cardio machines w/tvs, adjustable bench, dumbbells up to about 50 lbs, medicine ball, and two folding mats. There is a Max's restaurant that looked okay. Their desserts looked bomb tho. They do breakfast, lunch, and dinner. You can enjoy their breakfast/brunch for $6.99 if you're a guest. They also do signature cocktails such as a whiskey sour w/egg whites which is my favorite. I was tempted to get one but we had already bought a bottle for the room. Overall it was a great stay for just the one night. I would stay again if I needed to be around the Auburn area again. read more

I really liked this place. It's very nice and clean and comfortable. However because the beds was so! Ridiculously HARD! And uncomfortable I have to give it a two star. I didn't sleep good for 3 days because the beds was so bad! Also the walls are paper thin. Don't stay on the second floor, you can hear people walking from third floor. Also the toilet got plugged they were quick to fix it and informed me that this happens all the time since they now have Low water conserving toilet's. Supposedly Its State law. For hotel guests breakfast if pay night before, is six dollar ninety nine cents. If pay that morning is nine dollar ninety nine cents. Save the three dollars, go to Check In Desk night before, say you want the breakfast for the next morning. Hours six thirty am to nine thirty am on weekdays, seven am to ten am weekends. There is a swimming pool and not sure how describe it, next to swimming pool, the round part that has the hot bubbly waters. Think maximum time is twenty five minutes, the timer does go up to number twenty five. There is even a fire place. Good to know for cold temperature weather or rainy days. The song IT NEVER RAINS IN SUNNY CALIFORNIA is for sure a lie. It is raining today! Seventeen days rain in California month December 2021, five days rain month January 2022, one day rain February 2022, five days rain March 2022, as far for April there been five days rain.
