I absolutely LOVE this place. As of right now, this is the only place in this world I can say, feels like a place to call "home", even if it is only temporary. Is this place fancy and shiny and new? No. But the people who own this motel and all of their staff are some of the kindest, most generous, caring, funny, helpful, and welcoming people I have ever met. THAT is what keeps me coming back. We were coming back from a Ventura visit and had booked this motel in advance through an online site for two nights. We had business in the area and did not want to drive home late to Reno. This is an old motel, badly in need to repairs and a remodel. Once we got there we were tired as we had a long drive and to find a bug in the room behind the nightstand was a real turn off. Not sure what type it was but it bothered us to stay there. But we were still going to stay for the two nights until we started getting sick. We are Seniors and we did not feel well later that first day. I went into the office to try and cancel the second night as we just wanted to be home in case we needed to see a doctor. We were told that since we booked through an online site she could not cancel us. Instead she told us to come the next morning before 11am and that Booking would give us a full refund. We decided to do just that. The next morning we realized our son needed us to care for one of his kids while he drove to Stanford Medical with the two that have Juvenile diabetes for an apt. We totally forgot about that and needed to get home. And we were feeling worse that morning. We took off home expecting to get the refund. We contacted Booking through email with no response. We waited two weeks then we contacted the motel. We were told the front desk clerk was wrong about the refund but she would refund us anyways and that is the reason for the two starts otherwise they would have gotten only one. Glad we got back to Reno because we got quite sick and after testing we found out we had COVID. If we would have stayed the second night we would have exposed more people and we may have not felt good to drive home. I would not stay here again because it is so run down. We picked it because it has the Wyndham designation which I am find to be worthless since this is the second time I stayed at one of their motels and been upset with the condition. We check in really latem I mean like3 am the next day late. We drove straight from Vegas to Auburn for a medical treatment. We were dead tired. Before we came to the Super 8 we made sure to call them and see if they picked up the phone early in the morning. I wish they gave us more information on the phone. All she said was we got to be there before 3:30am for her audit. I'm assuming the close out. When we got there we found out there was $162 DEPOSIT. plus the total. So if you stay here make sure you have at least $260 on a card. It doesn't make you feel good knowing they require a deposit. On top of that I think that something the desk last should mention over the phone. Here is why I gave them one Star. The night desk lady did not know how to add AARP rate to the charge. She stated that it can be fixed by the manager in the morning for checking out. IT DID NOT GET FIXED. Manager stated she couldn't change the rate from the night before because it not on the computer anymore. So because super 8 DOES NOT TRAIN THIER EMPLOYEES properly. I am force to having to pay a higher rate. This is ridiculous. The room was ehh. We only stayed there maybe 6 hours tops. The bed wasn't really comfortable, sheets were thin. The room was clean though they had that going for them. The shower tub was sqeaking alot also. While you shower you move you feel like the tub might fall. Also have the lamps in the room did not work. We only came here because it was cheaper but I rather just spend the extra $20 and go to the best western. I stayed there for 3 days and everyone was so kind except the office manager I believe her name is Stephanie I'm a handicapped 65 year old disabled nurse. They placed me in an upstairs room even though I told them I was not able to go upstairs with the condition of my legs and having a strong German Shepherd to get up the stairs. The next day I inquired again and was told I would have to leave by 11 and return after 3. WAKE UP WYNDHAM!!! ...take the corporate SUPER 8 affiliation away from this place and force them to go independent. They will never learn, nor are they interested in treating guests fairly. O.k...here's my sob story: I'm white (I read the black gentleman's review about being placed on a "DO NOT RENT LIST" and trust me, it's all of us!) and my experience has more to do with principle. I work for a large company with territories that I travel to throughout most of Central and Northern CA. I make a very good living and receive a decent lodging per diem that I try to stretch as best as I can to put more money in my pocket for my family. It is true that Wyndham has great sales from time to time and I try to take full advantage of them while also maximizing my Diamond status benefits. Recently, Wyndham had a sale through 4/4/24 for 25% off multi-day stays booked through 6/30/24....so, I booked (via the Wyndham Rewards site) multiple stays at this property varying in length between 3 to 21 days. What I learned after my first stay of 5 nights was that my next stay of 10 nights was in violation of their policy of not being able to stay at this property for more than 7 consecutive nights (which requires vacating for 24 hours before being able to stay for another 7 nights). My complaint: where is this information on the Wyndham Rewards booking app about this property's stay restriction that should not have allowed me to book for more than 7 consecutive nights in the first place? Instead of being a jerk, I agreed to play ball after they made an exception one time to their policy to allow me to stay 15 consecutive nights. I explained to several staff members (good 'ol Stephanie too!) that I was fine with doing a cycle of staying 7 nights, going over to The Rodeway Inn (across the freeway) for 1 night and coming back for another 7 nights, etc., etc. HOWEVER (and this is where the principle part enters as the point of this posting), when I asked to chop up my future bookings that I placed at the awesome rates I locked-in prior to 4/4/24, they were unwilling to simply assign these same rates because the booking was being changed. Huh? Was I not the one being flexible to work with their 7 consecutive day stay policy? Clearly, Wyndham and these individually-owned properties (like this one in particular) are at fault for not collaborating to ensure that policies specific to these affiliate properties are reflected and disclosed on the booking site. This smells like a class action suit that should happen. "Hello, Mr. Lawyer, what are your thoughts on this?" Long story even longer...I called Wyndham Diamond support to put in my complaint and was pretty much stonewalled into a back and forth between corporate saying I need to talk to the property manager and vice versa. It's like the old adage of putting lipstick on a pig...why bother?...it's a waste of your time and it annoys the pig. So, I go to check-in today (because hey, this place is decent enough for me and it's cheap remember!!!) and find out that I have been put on the naughty list. I either got the property owner in trouble with Wyndham corporate, so they are exercising their right to refuse service to me OR it's simply because they have been SO DEFT at being able to understand what I was trying to explain to them (7-day policy fine, I GET IT!...not being able to keep my booked rate by chopping up my bookings through 6/30/24 (regardless of whether this may have only been about $5/night)...ticks me off to no end!). The room was a great price and we booked it only hours before arriving. We had two rooms and both rooms had kind of less-than-comfy beds, but room #106 allowed pets for a small, additional fee (like $10 or something if I recall), and room #123 had a jacuzzi tub that worked great with terrific jets. #123 was clean - everywhere! Very clean. So even though the bed wasn't all that comfy, the room made me comfortable. It was just a king bed and the other room with the pet had two queens (and the dog bed we brought). Parking was easy and the staff person at check in and check out was super nice and friendly. She even had my bf come get me to see my ID the next morning when he asked for another key because we'd left the dog bed in the second room with our friend, so I felt very safe. She was really nice the night before too - I'd def stay here again, in the king suite with jacuzzi for sure. read more

The woman that was the after hours window check in clerk (by the way it is a very impersonal setup having an outside check in window with a speaker/mic system unlike all other motels I've checked into in the past and present that use a front desk open lobby 24/7) she was extremely cold, callous, rude, standoffish, let alone no friendly greeting without a smile and a wink. She was bitchy about statng the payment policy that there is a ridiculously high security deposit for any room of $163 and said that if they attempt to charge your debit card and there isn't enough balance to cover both the room fee and the security deposit fully their system will hold the covered transaction amount for the room and will take 5-7 days to reverse the charge to credit back to your cards balance!! I told her I didn't have the additional $163 for the security deposit on my debit card checking account balance. So she asked if I wanted to cancel the one night $83 room reservation that had not yet been charged to my debit card by the national call center agent before arriving or supposedly been her I had not authorized her to charge my card. 3 days later, there is suddenly a pending transaction on my checking account statement for Super 8 Wyndham hotel of $209 for a reservation for a room I did not take even let alone book! A totally fraudulent unauthorized transaction!! Now my bank Chase has to handle reversing the transaction 24 hrs. after it posts the next business day. Also the woman check in clerk was finishing her shift and when walking out getting in her rides' car asked me to step further from 20 feet away from the security window after only 10 mins standing there and go back to my car to finish placing my calls as I told her I was calling to find a room at a hotel I could afford with a $50 security deposit that I did locate and book. As if I was a nuisance, discomfort or possible potential threat of some kind to any other clients that might be approaching the window to check in. Not a friendly place to stay nor fair payment policy nor a reasonable security deposit. Wish Yelp would allow zero Star ratings! Nuff said. read more

They've remodeled the rooms, much nicer without carpet, the new photo/pictures hanging on the wall are absolutely beautiful. Newly painted rooms with nice bold colors. The manager, Stephanie, is just wonderful. We needed a few extra things, towels, toilet paper, we had four people in our room. Very accommodating. The folks who work there are very friendly and nice. Pool is great on those blistering hot days that are there in Auburn. Small changes make a big difference. Little bit by little bit, improvements were and are being made. I completely understand old Hotels but this was probably one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed in. The overall smell of old cigarettes in a "non-smoking" room was horrible. There was mold that they fixed but covering it with Clear silicone, the vent fan in the shower was missing the cover so you could see right into the ceiling. The chairs and carpeting was stained and not kept up or even vacuumed, you could still see powder residue that looked as if it was from ant and roach killer. But I could have dealt with all of that but the very worse thing was the live in manager, she is an angry person who gets mad at anything you do. If you have any intentions of being outside your room talking you will get yelled at. And apparently having fun in the chlorine filled pool is unacceptable. She apparently wants you just to come sleep there and make no noise at all. I do not recommend staying here, if you can go somewhere else then do it. read more

Stopped here for a one night stay with my family. I wasn't expecting a fancy hotel. We were just looking for a clean place to sleep for the night. The walls of the hotel were filthy and bashed in. The chairs were soiled. There was a unknown substance all over the floor which looked like feces. There were stains on the blankets and the toilet wouldn't flush. It was late so I didn't know what to do. I went to the front desk and the lady was very nice and accommodating. She offered us a complete refund. We ended up at the holiday inn down the street. I only gave this place a one because I slept. I specifically asked the front desk clerk when I checked in, does it have a bathtub? He said yes, I said yeah, I dont have a bathtub where I live and that was the one requirement as I left 2 other places and didnt pay to stay as they didnt have a tub. I stayed in room 226 in case maintenance may want to come by and fix the tub and sink. In case - but dont hold your breath So brushed my teeth, and the water wouldn't drain from the sink. She said maintenance didnt come on until 9:00am (it was just a bit after 6am). I was in tears and asked her what I should do as I specifically asked for a tub when I checked in. She was kind and said, I can get fired for this but there was a room that didnt check in and you can bathe there but you have to come get the key and bring it right back when your done. So I did. Got the key and my stuff from my room, my clean clothes and went to that room. Opened that room (216) and went to draw that bath I so longed for and open the bathroom door and the stopper is not even in the tub. Its screwed off like someone had been working on the tub and off to the side. No worries, I can screw that back in. So I screwed the stopper back in and tried to turn the water on, and the knob just turned and turned and turned , with NO water. So I went back to the front desk and gave her the key back and told her it wasnt working and she said sorry. And the sorry was like what do you expect lady sorry. Well I dont expect to eat off the floor but I do expect the normal commodities in life to work. We did pay to stay there and NOT in a camp ground AND THAT WAS IT????? WTH? So by the time I checked out of my room, I didnt get a bath and the water from the bathroom sink was still in the sink and wouldnt drain! YUCK! I know its Super 8 but come on - its AUBURN! There is nothing worse than booking a hotel room, only to find out that the hotel never received your reservation. What made my situation even more troubling was the fact that I received no confirmation email regarding my room. I received emails about joining their rewards program, but nothing that was of dire importance. In the end, I booked the hotel in a different state - which made no sense since I went off Google maps and it showed me 100 feet from the hotel - but I was able to get a room, and get the out of state one cancelled. I want to both apologize and praise the woman who worked the front desk on Saturday night. I was being kind of an asshole, and she handled it amazingly. She didn't get frustrated with me, and she made sure that everything worked out great in the end. The room itself had a few issues. I had a non-smoking room, and the bathroom clearly smelled like smoke. Once again, the woman at the front was amazing. She apologized and offered to have someone go in a try to get rid of the smell. The second thing amiss was the television. I shouldn't have to unplug everything and plug it back in just to get it to work. Was booked here by family for a Wedding. First off I was checked in to a nasty room the was supposed to have been out of commission. There was even a big note on the front desk not to rent it out which I didnt see until I went to complain. It smelled nasty, the key card entry only worked 10% of the time, all of the base boards were gross and looked swollen from major water or dog urine damage. Went and complained was moved to a upstairs room, still stinky and dirty. On the First night as well my dog yelped a little to be let out , I let him right out and when I went outside I was confronted by the maintenance man, telling me "That's not a pet friendly room, you need to shut your dog up". It wasn't even 8 yet and my dog barked once. I informed him our room was upgraded and that wasn't our fault. I do not recommend this Auburn Wyndham Super 8 hotel. Why? Because I had reservations 1 month prior to Aug 30 planned stay. The front desk receptionist Elisabeth denied me a room. I was astonished to say the least. I was at the hotel at 3:30 pm which is 30 minutes after check in begins. I showed my confirmation number which included a pre book for a pet room. I'm in town for a dog show and have travelled 25 years and NEVER has a hotel with a reservation turned me away. I had to hit the road again because I had Elisabeth call the manager and she had the audacity to say I needed to call them before arrival. This is substandard business and with the other low yelp ratings one can see this Wyndham hotel is poorly managed. By the way it was 95 degrees and I drove through rush hour traffic to get to the Auburn Super 8 at checkin so I could get settled before the end of day travelers arrived. But NO the management of this Wyndham hotel turned me and my AKC DOG out to hit the road without a place to stay. Unconscionable and NOT PET FRIENDLY. Thank god the pre booked hotel I have in Grass Valley had vacancy tonight because my AKC dog and I are tucked into a super cool lodge room that is much nicer, cleaner, and in the pines - not next to a freeway like the Wyndham Super 8. I will be complaining to better business, Wyndham, the AKC Kennel Club about the Wyndham Super 8 Management. Wyndham does not honor their reservation process. Very bad hotel and management. What a dump! Dirty walls, dirty floors, iron burn in the carpet, bathroom sink broken, door latch fell off, hand prints on door frames and doors, and mold in the shower. Asked for room on lower level because I am handicapped, in the reservation special instructions box. These were ignored. When I asked why no one let me know, the girl said, they were too busy to meet every request or contact ones they could not meet. If you care about cleanliness you should find lodging elsewhere!! read more

Not so Super 8! This is not a dog friendly hotel...the owner yelled at me for my dog''s sniffing the grass! (we had been cleaning up diligently after our pup, although I noticed many dumps from other dogs left there). I was told I should have known the "rules" given at check in, if I had "paid attention". However, I didn't do the check in, my husband did....AND, he was not told of the rules regarding the approved dog areas....This owner was not only unfriendly, she was downright rude, and I canNOT recommend this place. The wifi does not work, the AC/heater left a dripping puddle next to the bed. Stains on the carpet and in the tub. The hotel staff are exceptional, but this is not enough to offset the nasty personality of the owner. read more

Stephanie and the manager were very gracious and helpful. I went to the wrong Super 8 hotel while traveling through Sacramento area. I ended up at the wrong one in Auburn very late at night around 12:30am and luckily they were just closing up and had a last minute cancelation so we got the last room. As it was really late they were able to give us a room and off to bed we went, and took care of all the details in the morning. Bed was comfortable and hotel in a quiet location to get rest. Highly recommend, very accomodating and nice people. read more
