I'm very disappointed with my experience with Mario/Rodriguez Maintenance & Landscaping. I hired Mario to do fence work at my home, including moving the fence and gate area back from my driveway. Since the work was completed, the fence has never been the same. The biggest issue throughout this entire process was reliability and communication. Mario would give me specific dates and times that he was supposed to come to my house, and then he simply would not show up. This happened multiple times. After the work was completed, I reached out several times because there were issues that needed to be fixed. Every time, Mario would say he was coming back, but he never followed through. The quality of the work itself was also disappointing. There are visible gaps along the bottom of the fence, parts of the fence are uneven and not level, and some of the boards have spaces where you can clearly see through them. The fence along the driveway also does not match the rest of the fence we paid for. In addition, there are holes drilled into our concrete where the fence latches are supposed to lock into place, but one of the holes was drilled incorrectly and the latch does not properly secure. When we originally received the quote for the backyard fence, the driveway fence, and moving the gate back, Mario told us that his work was guaranteed for one year. Unfortunately, when we actually needed him to come back and address the issues, he did not stand behind that guarantee. I also want to clarify that Mario did not personally complete the work himself. In the beginning, two workers came to our house to start the project. I overheard them talking about how there should have been more workers assigned to the job, and they were discussing how much Mario was going to pay them. The next day, only one worker returned. It then took at least another two weeks before Mario finally brought two additional workers back because the project was taking much longer than originally quoted. I understand that projects can sometimes take longer than expected, and honestly that was not even my biggest concern. The real issue was the lack of communication and professionalism. Mario would disappear for periods of time, claim his phone was disconnected, and contact us from random phone numbers. We were constantly left wondering whether anyone was actually coming back to finish the work. Most recently, my fiancé reached out to him again regarding the problems with the fence. Mario said he would come on Sunday, so we rearranged things at our home and waited for him while dealing with other construction projects. He never showed up. Later that evening, around 5 or 6 PM, he sent a text saying he could not make it. At that point, it felt like the exact same pattern all over again. Overall, this experience was extremely frustrating. We trusted Mario based on his promises and the one-year guarantee he provided, but when problems came up, he never properly followed through. The communication was poor, the workmanship was disappointing, and the issues were never corrected. Unfortunately, I would not recommend hiring him. ***UPDATE*** Mario, I was understanding about your personal situation and never expected you to "jump" when I texted. The issue was the repeated promises to come fix the fence and then not showing up or following through over a long period of time. Communication absolutely does matter when customers are trying to resolve problems with paid work that was advertised as guaranteed for a year. Also, calling it a "discount" does not excuse the quality of the work. I paid for a fence that was supposed to be done properly and guaranteed for one year. A lower price should not mean lower workmanship or ignored repairs. I wish you and your family well, but my review reflects my actual experience. read more

After canceling on me twice, Mario came out to give me a quote to mow my lawn, remove weeds, and clean out a planter box. We agreed upon a price, and set a date for the work to be done. It took 3 trips and more than 2 weeks for the work to be completed per our agreement, and then he demanded additional money after the fact because he felt that the amount of work deserved more than the agreed upon amount. After I reminded him of our original agreement, he accused me of being racist and being unwilling to pay for services rendered. For the record, I paid him not only the originally agreed upon amount, but as a good faith gesture, paid the additional amount he demanded. I don't write 1-star reviews lightly (this is my second ever), but this one is well-deserved. I would strongly recommend against working with Rodriguez Maintenance & Landscaping. read more

When my fence fell during one of the storms this past winter it was hard to find someone to come out and give me a quote. Mario responded quickly to my inquiry and gave me a free estimate and written quote with a good price. Even though it took a while for me and my neighbor that I split the cost with to agree on how to move forward, Mario was polite and professional. When we were finally ready he came out within a day or two and rebuilt 67' of fencing in two afternoons. The new fence is beautiful and sturdy and so much better than what was there before. I hired Mario and team a few weeks ago to build a horizontal fence in front of my 43 ft retaining wall and remove 4 shrubs from in front of the wall. The work was beautiful. My neighbor and I each had different questions or concerns and Mario handled them all. We had just over 40' of fencing done in board on board style with common redwood. The project did get pushed back a few times but considering that Mario took into consideration our own tight timeline, and was dealing with the uphill battle of sourcing lumber, AND gave us ample notice around the possibility of schedule changes, I have literally no issues with this. I went with Mario from Rodriguez Maintenance & Landscaping as he was one of the most responsive out of all the fence builders I contacted during COVID. I did get 3 estimates and Mario had the most reasonable estimate. I needed my fence repaired. Planks were falling apart, fence was leaning (see pic). My job was pretty small and I heard that not a lot of fence companies like to do these small jobs, but Mario was eager to take on the task. I presented him these pics and he came with an estimate within 24hrs. I made an appointment with him and he came out to fix my fence within a week. He worked within my budget. We hired Mario to fix a few sagging posts in our fence and replace a 40' section. What was supposed to take a few days turned into weeks, due to the constant unreliability of Mario. Every day we'd hear "I'm coming to finish tomorrow" only to have him cancel at the last minute for a variety of reasons that grew more unbelievable every time: "busy on another site", "hurt back playing touch-football", "can't find anyone to look after the dogs", etc, all the way to: "wife started a house fire cooking bacon". The job is now mostly done but it's been 2 months and we're still waiting on the post caps that Mario was supposed to install. Again, Mario has been gaslighting us for weeks: "order is going to be delivered tomorrow", then after pinging him a week later "they're on the delivery truck right now", another ping 2 weeks later "they'll be there in 5 days". And to top it off, when asked to send a screenshot of the Amazon order he supposedly made months ago, he sent a pic of the order conveniently cropped to hide the purchase date (twice! even though I explicitly asked to see the order date). Even without the order date it's obvious he had just placed the order today and was probably going to cancel right after sending the pic to get the money back. Hopefully this 1-star review will make him realize that his behavior is beyond unprofessional and will hurt his business. I'll make sure to post an update if/when we receive the post caps! read more

I had 5 fence builders and landscapers come out to bid for the job, and amongst all of them, Mario stood out as the one we wanted to work with. Even in the first appt, which I strongly see as a benchmark for the work and dedication that follows once a bid is approved, he demonstrated knowledge, passion for his craft, and his kind honest nature made going with him a no brainer. He was promptly on time, shared ideas, and most of all, he listened and helped us think through options to get the job done with the budget we had in mind. The challenge we gave Mario was to build a new fence, as close as humanly possible to cover up an ugly chain link fence that was sitting on 5 different levels of rocks concrete and dirt, and it needed to be done to match an existing Redwood fence on the other side of our property. No one else we got bids from seemed confident to build one as close as we had asked. But Mario did, and he made it happen. I have to say even with the Rocky terrain, additional requests with lighting, staining, he was always enthusiastic and patient to address, and he communicated every expectation and cost and timing where I felt 100% confident. Once posts were in he somehow got the job done in 2 days! All in 85 ft, meticulously even from top to bottom and panel to panel, stained, and lit fence done in 1 work week. Others had quoted 2 to 3 weeks not including staining! We love it and it makes our yard look bigger and increases the value. Thank God we found Mario just in time, so we can enjoy all this extra time we are now spending at the house! A portion of our old fence blew down during a recent windy day. I checked a few places from Yelp and got one estimate and one denial of service due to the small size of the project. Mario responded promptly. He gave a quote that beat my previous one by a good sum of money. He and his worker made it the next day.
