We had a few jobs done, concurrently, by Palm Construction (PC), and I'll rate them individually, but Work started in May 2021. Overall, 1 star, do not recommend. /- Take out old furnace, install new furnace in attic, install AC unit Stars: 3 Why: Covered a junction box, no cable management, left behind a mess The furnace went into the attic, which is a great idea. They made a mess of the attic: left behind loads of scraps, pipes, old vents, wires, screws, etc. They also put the furnace on top of a preexisting junction box (one I had installed for some hallway lights) - meaning I couldn't get to the junction box when I wanted to add a line to it. The did no cable management. They had to take down a fair number of wires and junction boxes in order to put the furnace in the attic, but they did nothing in the way of cable management, nor did they secure the junction boxes after taking them down. Insulation left in the yard, screws and sheet metal trimmings left behind on the walkways, yard and in driveways, ducting, as well as lunch trash left behind. They also filled our recycle bin with the styrofoam and cardboard from the furnace/AC packaging. Omari came out and cleaned up promptly after I made a phone call. /- Refurbish the old furnace room into a pantry & Hallway 'remodel' Stars: 4 The furnace closet looks good (its a pantry now). The hallway mostly looks good. The texture job looks excellent. The floor job was done poorly. We had PC install new vinyl tiles. The person doing the install did a poor job of cutting the tiles to fit properly, leading to a fair bit of wasted material. This in turn lead to 2-3 weeks of waiting for more tile to finish the job. Ontop of that, due to cuts making the boards a bit too short, they PC had to bring someone in to fill the gap from floor to wall that the trim didnt cover. /- Kitchen demo and remodel (different crew) Stars: 1 Going in chronological order.... Demo started way too soon. They knocked everything out in 2-3 days, but then we had to wait for another round of measuring and then finally they ordered the cabinetry (took ~3-4 weeks for it to arrive from [Malaysia?!]) - Learning point - don't let them knock anything out until the cabinetry arrives After the demo, they opened some walls to put in new outlets. What they didnt do - put in insulation. When you open an exterior wall, code says to put in insulation, they didnt know this - or they ignored this code. Inspector saw this and had them correct their issues (adding more days to the timeline). Demo had no attention to detail. Small nails, for base boards were left behind, and later the texture guy texture them - as if he couldn't notice a freakin nail. Texture person also used my grill brush to clean his stuff, without my persmission. Keep in mind we had no kitchen, so I was grilling ~every other day. Texture looks great though. We used the company PC recommended: Kitchen Makers. Kitchen Makers sold us out of stock, and discontinued, cabinets. So we had to wait while that issue was resolved. When the cabinets finally arrived, 2 cabinets were the wrong color. A lighter gray that was very noticeable when put side by side. Again, we had to wait for this issue to be resolved (out of stock for the size we wanted, etc etc). Roughly, ~2-3 weeks of delay due to Kitchen Makers incompetence. Cabinet installation was another type of pain. Installer, PC worker, put some cabinets in upside-down, put the hardware on wrong, did a very sloppy job on cuts and drill holes. There was no communication between electrical and cabinet installers, otherwise things might've gone much smoother. --- This is a common theme, there is little-to-no contact between electricians and palm construction. /- Electrical upgrade: upgrading main panel (from 100 amps to 200) and breaker box to handle the new AC unit, furnace, etc etc The subcontractors here are SUN BEAM SOLAR ENERGY CORPORATION and they are lazy: no cable management, using literal scraps of trash as spacers for the outlets, leaving trash behind, etc I was away for a few days, and thats when they decided they needed to go into the garage (I was told they didnt need to access it that weekend, nor would there be a way for them to access the garage). They broke in, using a screw driver(?) to jimmy the door - they were allowed in the house, but, not the garage where we had all the kitchen stuff. Then they proceeded to do bust open walls etc to run grounding wires. I just found out, ~1.5 years later, that the permit for electrical has not been closed out. This is an ongoing theme, finding issues later. i.e. they charged for the installation of 10 lights, when its actually 8, etc. They were quick to amend that final bill. The grout they used for the backsplash is cheap - its cracking/flacking out already. The duct tape they used for the dust covers (plastic wall/zipper door) ripped up the paint and they offered no repair service for it. read more

This job was to renovate my home in preparation to sell it in early March. It consisted of a kitchen and 3 bathroom upgrade, flooring and lighting fixture replacement, painting and removal of 3 popcorn ceilings. Beginning the second week of January, the entire job was completed within 6 weeks. When first hired, the principal of Palm Construction carefully tuned in to my specific needs and targeted timeframe, offering a POD, porta potty and, of course, a big dumpster. They made succinct suggestions respects colors, style and quality of products to be used in my reno. Their specialists in each trade worked cohesively with each other, as well as alongside other contractors that I had personally hired separately for windows and pool re-plaster. Although I had intended to live in the property during the renovation, I quickly realized that my occupancy was impeding progress, so I made the decision to vacate the premises. This was especially important during the removal of popcorn ceilings which contained asbestos. The work moved seamlessly from the removal of kitchen counters, sink, cabinet doors, appliances and flooring to the demolition of 3 bathrooms. Timely mutual decisions were made about fixtures, mirrors, flooring, sinks, vanities, paint and hardware, allowing the job to progress steadily to reach very precise goals. Along the way, it was determined that the air ducts needed replacing and AC would be a welcome addition to attractiveness of the home to a buyer. These issues were discussed and explained clearly and quoted at a reasonable cost - so I decided to add as change orders. Although I had never been involved with a home renovation in the past, I was very impressed with the patience and care taken to communicate with me throughout the entire job. I was a demanding customer with a an expectation of perfectionism and Palm Construction was up for the challenge. Beyond the scope of the original job, Palm went above and beyond with finishing touches and little extras here and there. They've come back to help me even after completion of the job, when I needed some additional retrofits for my appliance installation, which was not even part of the original job. I know that I can count on Palm Construction to be responsive and willing for anything that may come up in the future. I learned that they are a GC that you can totally trust and rely on. In summary, I am in awe of the completed work. My friends and neighbors are astonished with the transformation of my home. The end product is flawless and most impressive. My realtor has already offered Palm Construction opportunities for other jobs. My neighbors have asked for their contact information to get quotes. I highly recommend Palm Construction for your renovation work, whether it is a large or small job. During the 6 weeks of this job, I got to know the principal, Guy Yaakov, and his team. Despite the complexities of the job and the incidental issues that came up, the personal follow-through and attention paid to all questions and requests were taken care of expeditiously and professionally. Palm Construction took on my difficult and extensive project, did a great job getting it done according to my plans, finished on budget and I could not be happier. I worked with Edan Bouskila, beginning with the original quote, through the whole project to completion. Edan was great to work with, always listening to my ideas, considering my plans and offering his ideas and insights along the way, and always with a smile. A true collaboration. Any tricky issues that arose were handled professionally and expertly, keeping the project moving along and the crew always busy. Additionally, Gabriel from Palm Construction was checking with me every few days to make sure all issues were being addressed. Any questions I had were answered immediately. Angel and his crew were great! They were always working at a high level of professionalism, were easily approachable with questions and very respectful. Considering my project involved two decks, the upper deck incorporating the Trex Rain Escape system, the lower a spot for a hot tub with a bench wrapping around it, drainage, multiple levels of stair rebuilding, the enclosing of posts with stucco added and fencing with a gate, it is amazing the project went so smoothly, barely without a hitch. I also requested that my original railing be used which involved disassembling and then reassembling the railing with fresh paint. This part of the project also went really well and issues that (always) come up when re-using old materials were quickly taken care of and the final result looks great. Additionally, Palm Construction built a fence (including a gate) for me on a slope. This too went well and Edan worked with me tirelessly to find the material, color and design I was looking for. And again Angel and his crew put the fence up expertly, making it look easy even though it was not. I would not hesitate to use Palm construction again. read more

We are in the process of getting our house ready to be sold and the exterior needed a fair amount of work done on the siding, decking and paint. The south and west sides of the house were pretty weathered and beat up from the elements. After doing our due diligence, we hired Palm Construction to do the job. From the very first meeting with Sean, we could tell that this was a professional company that would do a good job. The estimate was dead on (was close to what 2 other companies quoted us) and was exactly what we paid. Sean took the time (over an hour) to explain the process, show their licenses and insurance-so that we would know they are above board. In doing our due diligence, we checked on the licenses and all was what it said it was. We were not disappointed in the least. They were always here when they said they would be and were diligent in getting the work done in a timely fashion. The work started the day they said it would and it was finished in the time frame that they said it would be. The quality of the work is first-rate and the workmen knew what they were doing to renovate the siding and deck. They kept at it all day and even stayed after a couple of days to make sure that the work was on schedule. The painters were meticulous in making sure that all areas were done right and neatly. Supervisors were around and checking on things often and kept us up to date on how things were progressing. While the work was not cheap, it was comparable to other bids we got and the quality of materials used will ensure that this house will stand ready to welcome another family and be in good shape for years to come. Let me just say first, that I highly recommend Palm Construction. We first met with Omri to discuss removing an existing redwood deck, re-painting our entire home and then rebuilding our deck with Trex. Both myself and my wife knew very quickly that we were meeting with a company that would be professional and would do a great job for us. The first crew onsite was the demolition crew. They worked very fast and without damage to our home. When completed all old materials were cleaned up and removed. Next Jorge the painter and his crew began working. Their preparation was over and above what I would have expected, re-caulking around all door and window trim. The painting of the entire two-story home was completed within just a few days. The home looks beautiful. After painting, Omri and Jean came to discuss the special requirements and design of the deck. They made several suggestions on how to improve on what we had in our minds. Jean and his crew again were true professionals. Everything was measured and re-measured several times as they rebuilt the substructure which made the final decking perfect. I happen to be very particular in wanting things build right, and Jean went above and beyond my expectations. The quality of their workmanship was exactly what we were expecting. Anything that we had questions on was immediately addressed. I've seen other comments on bids that seemed high and I have to admit that I was a bit sticker shocked at first. My wife and I live in a 1912 Craftsman bungalow in the east end of Alameda. We inherited a very non traditional master bathroom that we lived with for 31 years. Upon our retirement we had the time to focus attention on a complete bathroom remodel project. We received quotes from several companies and ended up selecting Palm Construction which fell mid-range in cost. It was an extensive job which involved tearing out the vanity, tub and shower enclosure, removing linoleum flooring,..down to lathe and plaster. Once demo was completed there was of course concerns about how the project would be completed. We were very fortunate to have Sean Bar as the project manager. He was quite attentive and stayed closely involved throughout the project. David was the on site job foreman and he too was very competent and reliable. All the subs that were engaged (electrician, tile installer, painter, shower glass) did an excellent job. We specified using the Schluter system for our heated tile floor and a new tile shower. A new Toto toilet with the Washlet seat replaced a toilet that had difficulty flushing. A new wooden vanity with matching mirror and a Craftsman vanity light fixture completed the remodel, all very in keeping with the desire feel and function. We couldn't be happier with the outcome and we would whole heartedly recommend the Palm Construction team. read more

Ken and his team are just finishing up a triple decker porch renovation for my 3 unit condo building. From day 1 of the project, Omri has been completely up front and honest about everything ranging from timeline, to materials, to price and everything in between. The work is 99% complete and we couldn't be happier! There were a few hiccups along the way, one of which included a cracked beam that was delivered to Omri's team for the project. They handled the situation so professionally, and ended up driving all the way from Marin to The east bay to pick up a perfectly uncracked beam just to satisfy the condo association and keep the timeline on track. Additionally, the original vinyl we were going to use for the ceilings turned out to be flimsy material, and not up to par. The team felt it was best to use a wooden groove ceiling and did not even charge us extra for it since it wasn't on the original quote!!! It was such an honest and genuine gesture and I am truly thankful to have a team that had our best interest at hand on this project. I really feel that They went out of his way to put in 100% and the overall end product has come out so beautifully, we couldn't be happier. I recently had the pleasure of working with Palm Construction for a major transformation of my backyard, and I couldn't be happier with the results! My yard was originally an uneven 2000 sq ft area covered in mulch that would turn into a puddle during the rainy season. From the moment Benjamin came over for our initial chat, I felt confident that we could put together a solid plan. He listened to my ideas and helped me design a layout that included installing drain pipes, leveling the area, and covering it with pebbles and stepping stones. I also requested three sections to be filled with concrete for a grill, gazebo, and fire pit, which was a bit of a challenge. There were a few misunderstandings along the way, but Benjamin was always there to sort things out, which I really appreciated. The crew was fantastic! The foreman was attentive and accommodating to my multiple requests for adjustments regarding the size and location of the concrete blocks and stepping stones. I'm very happy with the project delivered by Palm Construction, both due to the result and due to the way it was handled by Jacob and Ken. I was looking into options for redoing my garage floor (about 625 sqft), and Jacob and Ken came out almost immediately to look over the project. Since we also had sewer lines of unknown state running under the floor, they suggested we first get them scoped with video in case we wanted to replace them, and even got a plumber to do so the very next day. Luckily they were in great shape! Their crew was on-site as soon as I was able to clear out the garage, and was super helpful with moving some of the larger items, as well as clearing out debris from my ongoing remodeling. Except for having to wait a few days for the concrete truck to be available, the whole job was done in three days, after which the site was left cleaner than when they came! Having a father who's a builder, I had several requests for what type of finish I wanted, and how to make the transitions between the new slab and the rest of the house. Jacob would always jump on the phone whenever I had questions, and came out several times to look over and document so that his crew knew exactly what to do. EDAN is very professional and committed to his job.We met for the first day for the free estimate and I was really impressed by his presentation. I signed the contract right away and I was supposed to do only one project but I ended up doing 3 projects at one time, front lawn retaining walls, carpet grass and exterior house paint. Edan and Alon were very helpful in giving me a reasonable prize. They helped me fulfilled my dreams- I have now a 30 year old BRAND NEW HOUSE. Edan checks the progress of the project everyday, he responds to my call even late at night and weekends. He is an asset to the company.
