My fiancé and I opted for the 4 hour dog sledding aurora adventure through Rod's and let me tell ya, that was one of, If not the most memorable experience of our lives. Our guide/musher, Cole, seemed like he was having just as much fun as we were the whole time, and he let us stop whenever we wanted to take time to keep petting all of his dogs. We stopped half way through at a small fishing cabin on a frozen lake, where we were served reindeer sausages and hot cocoa, so we could warm up as we watched the aurora dance overhead. If you're in the area, I strongly recommend checking this place out. They also provided us with cold weather boots, bibs, and jackets, which meant we didn't have to pack nearly as heavy for our trip. Oh my gosh, where do I begin! We arrived and immediately went for the dog sledding. Joe, our Guide, was amazing with his team of beautiful Alaskan Huskies. He was very informative about the area and provided great service to us by talking with us about his dogs, the community, and even let us drive the sled. First, a detailed safety briefing to keep us all safe. Second, a short check ride to make sure we were all good. Definitely a tour you need to do when in Fairbanks. They are located in North Pole which is about 20 minutes south of Fairbanks. The drive is pretty easy plus you can stop by to visit Santa on your way to or from your snow mobile ride. Things I love about this guide service: Errrythang! I called last minute, meaning I wanted a tour for that same day, and Rod (the son) was very quick with his response. For someone so young, he sure is very on top of things. From scheduling to payments, we got everything done in 5 minutes. The drive to their office is very beautiful. Everything is blanketed with snow. All the trees are heavy with the fluffy whiteness. So go there early coz you're gonna wanna stop multiple times for photo ops. The tour lasts for about an hour. Definitely you need dress warmly. Rod and Terry will provide snow shoes, jackets, gloves and I believe also snow pants if you're not wearing thick enough clothes for the ride. They have everything. They are very prepared. The mobiles are all pretty new. The handlebars are heated so hello toasty fingers!! The helmets are also heated but it gets fogged up sometimes; just crack it open a bit when that happens or ask for another one if you still have not left for the tour. Make sure to have fun! Service was so awesome. They all go above and beyond. They gave us so many tips and directions on where to go for the Northern Lights. We had a truly wonderful time with Aaron (ice-fishing) and Chuck (snowmobiling) on the combo package! Everyone in our little party of three managed to catch multiple fishes, and seeing the fish cooked and served right in front of us was a new experience. Aaron was also super personable with us and the other group in the small fishing hut, and made all of us feel extremely welcomed. The breakfast offered was also delicious - reindeer sausages and hot cocoa is the best way to start one's morning! The fishing location was also sent out in a separate email after booking confirmation, so be sure to not miss that since it was a 15 minutes drive between Rod's office and the fishing location. Snowmobiling was very exciting with Chuck showing us the ropes. Pretty simple, and the landscape was also beautiful to look at during our 2 hour ride. We had such a fun time fishing with Aaron yesterday! Aaron is very knowledgeable and very personable. We were in a small group of 5, we each caught a fish and Aaron cooked them for us. Amazing! This experience is worth your time and money! There's a reason Rod's has such great reviews. It is truly a class act. I cannot recommend their guided snowmobiling tour enough. Here's how our morning went: We parked the car around 9:30 and stepped out of -20 F into a warm, clean cabin, where Rodney (Rod's son) greeted us. He had us fill out waivers and carefully explained the key points of the contract while he outfitted us with warm boots (*do* use their boots!), snow pants, jackets, gloves, and heated helmets. We waited for two more folks to arrive while Rodney shared a bit about his family, the company history, and some local tips about aurora chasing. Once the other two had arrived and everyone was snugly outfitted, Rodney took us out to where he had the snow machines staged and gave us a quick and effective primer on their operation. He had us do laps around the cabin to get a feel for things while he watched and geared himself up. After five laps, he'd figured out the best order for us to ride in to make sure no one was left behind - and we headed out. We headed out onto a broad, straight clearing in the trees, that Rodney had explained was where the Alaska Pipeline ran underground. We slowly eased up the speed as we rode through snowy forests in the golden sunrise. After about ten minutes, we turned off the pipeline and onto some narrow trails through the trees. It was a lot of fun to steer over little hills and around corners, seeing clearings open up occasionally. We ended up with two moose sightings - a cow with calf, and a second cow. Rodney stopped at a distance and showed us a few different moose calls (we were curious and had asked). After a few minutes, we slowly passed them, cutting them a wide berth. After the first hour, Rodney guided us back to the cabin, where we warmed up and he helped me mount my GoPro to my helmet. Once everyone was ready, we headed out for the second half. Rodney guided us to a wide open frozen lake, where he gave us free rein to roam around and play with speed as much as we felt comfortable. We popped into an ice-fishing cabin to warm up and watched as another guide helped a group release a fish they had just caught. The guide told us how they are careful to run a sustainable business by releasing all but one fish per fisher. All in all, this was a great experience. It was safe, fun, beautiful, and thrilling. read more

We all felt comfortable driving and they took us through a winter wonderland forest. They provide a heated helmet and some warm accessories if needed. Ryan was our guide for the Snowmobile Adventure and what an adventure it was. He was amazing down to getting our group of 8 fitted prep and ready to get on the snowmobile. His instructions were simple but yet through I felt comfortable immediately starting my snowmobile. He ensured all of us were comfortable and prepared.
