Extremely Disappointing -- Rody's Tavern Has Become "Rody's Daycare Center" I have been a customer at Rody's Tavern in Greensboro for some time, and what I have witnessed recently has gone far beyond what I would consider acceptable management of a restaurant/bar. Locals have jokingly started referring to the establishment as "Rody's Daycare Center," and unfortunately, there is a reason for it. On multiple Friday evenings and Saturdays, the night manager's husband has brought their four small, toddler-aged children into the bar while he and his friends sit and drink all day. The children have been allowed to move in and out of the bar and kitchen areas without what appeared to me to be adequate supervision. On more than one occasion, I personally have observed the children still at the establishment as late as approximately 11:30 p.m., after apparently being there for much of the day. I eventually voiced my concerns directly to both the husband and the night manager. Apparently, expressing concern about small children spending late nights wandering through a bar and kitchen was considered offensive and disparaging. There are also serious concerns regarding conduct in and around the establishment that management should be addressing rather than ignoring - like drug use in the parking lot. If management is unaware of this, they need to start paying attention. If management is aware of it and chooses to ignore it, that is considerably more concerning. For the record, I had a verbal disagreement with a kitchen employee several weeks ago. I was subsequently told that the matter was considered resolved and was a non-issue. I accepted that and moved on, apparently management did not. During my latest visit, the general manager approached me and said: "Didn't they tell you, you are no longer welcome here?" I responded, "Who is 'they'? You are the general manager." The response was essentially that the general manager personally did not want me there because I had allegedly made disparaging comments about the night manager and her husband. I find that to be an interesting way to handle customer concerns. Rather than addressing the underlying issues, management apparently chose to remove the customer who complained about them. I have several questions that management should be willing to answer: Are the husband and their friends paying for all the food and drinks they and the children consume and all the alcohol the adults consume? Are employees' family members receiving special treatment that ordinary customers would not receive? Is management aware of children repeatedly entering and exiting restricted work areas such as the kitchen? Who is driving these children home after the parents have been drinking all day? Is management aware of alleged drug use occurring in the parking lot? Are these behaviors consistent with the standards the ownership wants associated with its business? And most importantly, who is responsible for enforcing standards at this establishment? I am not writing this because I was asked to leave. I am writing because the way this situation was handled speaks volumes about the leadership or lack thereof. A customer raised legitimate concerns about what he and all his friends were witnessing. Instead of addressing those concerns, management made the customer the problem. That's not customer service. That's not responsible management or leadership. Rody's Tavern needs to take a serious look at what is happening after hours, what management is allowing to occur, and whether the people responsible for running the establishment are enforcing the standards expected of a professional restaurant and bar. I sincerely hope the owners take these concerns seriously and investigate them rather than simply dismissing them, because if what I have witnessed is representative of how this establishment is being managed, there are much bigger problems at Rody's Tavern than one unhappy customer. read more

A good night out with the guys. Wait staff pleasant and efficient. Standard tavern food items, nothing that stands out as unique. I got 2 items Tomato Bisque (so glad I got it flavorful and nice texture that has some grit to it. So stimulating). Also got the standard no frills cheeseburger. Filling as had plenty of beef patty (thick). Good enough taste but not a burger to crave. Not juicy or overly flavorful therefore giving it and therefore the place 3 stars as good but not great. I always enjoy a visit here for lunch. They have a large menu full of their take on favorites, but they do everything well. I've sampled many different dishes and never had a bad meal. Everything always seems fresh and they pay attention to seasoning all items well. The fried shrimp appetizer is well-flavored and battered without feeling at all heavy or greasy. The chicken sandwich with goat cheese and red pepper jelly bursts with flavor, and their salads are always crisp. If something on the menu looks good to you, chances are you'll enjoy it quite a lot. Great little spot! Went for lunch on a Saturday. They were very busy but able to accommodate the crowd. Our waitress was attentive and efficient. She brought out refills as needed. The food came out quickly and was correct. I got the red goat chicken sandwich with tots. It was very good. The chicken was cooked perfectly and not dry! The hot pepper jelly made the sandwich. There was a bit too much goat cheese for my taste but that's me and it was still good. The tots were hot and crispy like they should be! All other dishes at the table looked great! Rody's isn't near my usual stomping grounds so I've never had a chance to go before this. Greensboro has a lack of decent sports bars so when we found ourselves with a free evening in this part of town, and a lot of games to watch, we were happy to head to Rody's. As a sports bar it didn't disappoint. We were able to get a seat at the bar so didn't have to wait despite the crowd and there seemed to be a lot of regulars which normally indicates a quality place. They had a ton of TV's showing every possible game or event on at the time and there seemed to be enough that you would be able to catch that game you were looking for. They had a nice beer selection and the bar drinks were good, if a little basic (which I think fits the setting so it's not a deal breaker). Our food was typically bar food but was quite good and came out shockingly quickly which was nice because we were pretty hungry. I don't know if I'll make my way this far north of town to visit but if I find myself in the area again, I won't be opposed to returning. read more

This is my second visit and I couldn't be more pleased. I really was craving grilled chicken. We've all had bland grilled chicken before and that is what I expected when the waitress told me to trust her and just try it. When I put it in my mouth the flavor explosion blew me away. I love a good rivalry. I can remember the unique experience when coach John Wooden, many years retired, gave a speech in my Psychobiology class as a Sophomore in college. My Alma mater is UCLA and my wife's is USC. About 40 minutes apart on other sides of Los Angeles. So we couldn't pass up a fun family outing with the kids to go watch UNC-Duke this evening. We decided on Rody's, which is about 10 minutes from us up here in the Summerfield area. It did not disappoint. We showed up around 5pm (game start was 6:30pm). This place was already buzzing with activity and we had about a 15-20 minute wait even this early. No worries, their waiting room outside of the main restaurant area has tv's, so anyone can watch the early games if they so choose. Our server, Susan, took great care of us all evening long. When the place was packed to the brim, she didn't miss a step. The food overall was good. Nothing that will knock your socks off, but really good. We had their tasty wings, smothered cheese fries, fish and chips, philly cheese steak, and buffalo fried shrimp. I would give the food overall a 3.5-4.0, and something we'd all come back for and eat again. There were 30+ selections of beer to choose from, something for any beer lover's palate. Wine, ciders and cocktails aplenty as well. The atmosphere for this game was electric, and the main reason we chose this place. Almost 50-50 UNC-Duke fans, packed to the brim. Every seat taken. And this place is HUGE. This isn't your intimate date night, but an atmosphere somewhere close to a Super Bowl match up on a night like this. Kids loved it. I loved it. My wife, who's not a huge sports fan, also enjoyed the fun atmosphere we were in. I was never so insulted!! The bartendress explained that the mango habanero wings were very spicy and most people can't handle it. I assured her I meant to order these very spicy wings and that I have a high tolerance. She left and came back 5 min. later. I told the waitress, "these aren't spicy AT ALL!" She hands me Green habanero hot sauce and said, "this is what I use." So they didn't take my wings back and fix it?? No celery was given and I asked for blue cheese and got ranch. I still tipped her but I'm tired of tipping for awful service. I appreciate that the martinis were good. BUT Why did she add $8 for a double tho? It was a martini glass and I just asked for grey goose not a double. Average experience, typical sports bar. We went here on a Saturday night and it took about 30 mins to get a table- which was no problem. We were there to watch the Tar Heels basketball game. There weren't a ton of TVs tuned to it, so my view was obstructed. I chose the 1800 coconut margarita and it was sweet and strong. Service was quick and friendly, but the food quality was lackluster. I got the disco tots, which were tots, a couple kinds of melted cheese, gravy, and some sour cream. Think "tot poutine" and that's what it was. It was a nice idea, but they were a little light on the tots for a $10 app. Also, the gravy was oddly watery. My dining companion's food was inedible, but I'm not letting that impact my review since she'll likely leave one herself. Overall, if you're trying to watch a game, this is an option. My fiancé and I went here for drinks and luckily it was only drinks. MULTIPLE kitchen crew members were vaping while working and making food! One man touched the trash can with his gloves and didn't change them. The bartender was very polite and she made the ambiance tolerable while we were there. She called for help a few times and finally someone came over to help her. The young lady that came over to help did NOT wash her hands when she entered the area and she was coming from somewhere else. Another employee was off the clock but hanging over in the kitchen cross contaminating things. Some of the workers didn't have hair nets on and needed them. The guys that were working with long hair did have hair covers so that was positive. Another kitchen crew member was walking all over the back room with a basket of fried chicken everywhere he went. Employees were wiping their noses and touching their face and hair and not washing their hands. It was just horrible. The sad part is we've visited this place in once before and I wish I would've seen this before hand or we would've never ate there. We had two drinks and left. I hope they get some training on serv safe because it's a wonder no one has reported being sick after eating at this establishment.
