I thought this was a cute little spot! I was able to get here late last night I felt bad because I did hit them right before they closed but the customer service was really nice and the place was really clean. The food came out fresh I got the El Diablo Burger which had Lettuce, Spicy Mayo, Fried Jalapeños, cheese and one juicy beef patty. I really enjoyed it the Jalapeños were great the breading on them was perfect they didn't fall out of the breading or anything half the time when I bit into the sandwich I didn't realize I bit into one until this spice hit me which was good! The burger was well cooked and seasoned good. The spicy mayo was your standard. The only two things and this could be because I went so late and some ingredients weren't as fresh but either the lettuce or bun had a weird taste to it but not enough to really ruin the sandwich just enough to notice it though. I gave the burger a 8/10 on my one bite scale which is still really good just those two things lowered it a bit. The Onion rings were to die for! I feel like they use funnel cake breading and they were fresh and didn't slide out of the breading at all I was very impressed and could eat a whole box of them alone! Overall the vibe was a nice little vintage burger spot that has amazing Onion rings. My score overall would be a 3.4/5 but since I do not round up I have to stick with a 3. I did not give full stars because their burgers are not as big as they used to be and it took quite a long time to get our food and even order. But it was still a fun experience I would go back for sure. Heck, I really wanted to like Emma Keys but simply cannot. The employees were GREAT and would be a 5 star crew. However, the food was simply not good. The burgers lacked flavor, the chili did not have any discernible meat flavor, the onion rings were too heavily breaded and, as a result, held a great deal of grease. Also, the restaurant seems tired and looks as if it suffers from deferred maintenance. There was an odd smell that was prevalent and strong inside the restaurant and the outside needed a good clean up. It is a great location, wonderful concept and should be great...but it isn't. Found this place late at night after a concert nearby and couldn't be happier with the experience! Even months later, we still talk about how good the food was and how hardworking the staff were that night. I even considered contacting their management to let them know how outstanding their employees were that night, but I didn't catch their names. So I hope this gets back to them somehow. This would've been September 20th, if I'm remembering correctly. Anyway, we were pleasantly surprised to find a place open so late. And very grateful to have something other than the typical chains to eat at that hour. It's a small place with only two people running the show that night but they put in work! Not long after we arrived a larger group showed up and they were slammed. But the two workers kept grinding and turned out some really great food. The guy on the grill really put together some magic. I had probably one of the best hot dogs of my life and I'm not even a big fan of hot dogs. Something about hearing mac and cheese and potato chips on one really caught my eye though. I blame it being nearly 2 am lol. My husband ordered something with BBQ on it but they were out and offered to make him a chopped cheese in the style of the item he ordered. It was phenomenal! They really should put it on the menu. The fries were also cooked to perfection. All in all, it was better than we could ever imagine. I wish we had a place like this near us! We were sad to find out the late hours are only on weekends when our last few Greensboro concerts have been during the week. Food: A small establishment that does burgers with big flavor! The only disclaimer is that the burgers are cooked medium well by default. I really enjoyed the El Diablo Burger and Sweet Potato Fries. I had my burger cooked at medium and they hit it right on the nail. The patty was seasoned well and the remaining burger components were very fresh. The sweet potato fries came out very crispy and were also seasoned perfectly. Service: Bare bones service where they take your order and call your number, but that is expected. Ambiance: the place is very small and almost dive like with the small casual interior and outdoor seating. When I was growing up, we ate meat all the time, and in all kinds of varieties. I remember many meals of kosher roast beef and pot roast made by my grandma. Mom made a great meatloaf with a hard boiled egg in the middle that me and my brothers fought over! We had spaghetti and meatballs, cold cuts like salami and bologna, and when things got a little better at home, lots of steak! I don't know why I have gravitated away from beef as an adult. Not sure if it's because I had so much of it as a child, learning that it's high in calories and fat or that it's very expensive. But, for whatever reason, I rarely have it anymore. So, when Sally and I decided to have lunch, and I wanted to try a new restaurant, and I know how much she loves hamburgers, I suggested Emma Keys and she was ready to go! The place is very close to UNCG so I know the area well. I quite often go to that spot for Fishbones, so it was fun to try something else. There was no available on-site parking, but we easily parked a block away. We burned off at least 10 calories walking over which justified what I was about to eat! LOL The place is very cute and simple and has an old fashioned feel to it, as if it hasn't been renovated in years and years. But I mean that in a charming way. Lots of outdoor seating, and if it wasn't so hot that would have been fun, but we chose to eat indoors. The menu was not overwhelming which I appreciated. I immediately zoomed in on the hamburger with swiss cheese and mushrooms and Sally immediately gravitated towards what we call the Carolina Burger. She ordered fries and I ordered a large onion ring! We both worked out that morning and we didn't care about calories! They have a fountain for your drinking pleasure and I must say, that lunch was delicious. Rings was massive and the hamburger was extremely flavorful and chock full of good stuff. As much as I love onion rings, I could not finish that full portion and took the rest home. Sally seemed to enjoy her hamburger too. The crowd kept coming in while we were eating and lots of takeout as well. I liked this place. Brought back memories of graduate school. It had a nice neighborhood feel to it, and the food was reasonably priced and really, really good. I would highly recommend Emma Keys for a burger and onion rings. You can choose one of their specialty burgers which I did or you can build your own, and with the list of add-ons, that might be fun to try the next time I'm coming back... And I will! read more

Emma Keys is one of those once in a blue moon places because we don't live nearby anymore, but it is consistently good every time we go! We stopped by for dinner Friday night. My husband got a build your own burger and fries. I got the Lone Star with bacon cheese fries. Everything was absolutely delicious! The employees are also always friendly here, which is much appreciated! My only complaint is the space inside is very cramped. We sat at the high top bar because it was the only seating available and when we left I had to ask someone at the table behind us to stand up so I could get out. read more

I've been dying to try Emma Keys for some time now and when my birthday rolled around, I knew where I wanted my friends and I to meet. I never got to try Emma Keys under the old ownership but no worries whatsoever, these guys who've owned the place for a year now are doing things RIGHT! This is a fast casual spot meaning you order at the counter, they give you a number, and you either sit at the few tables inside or at a picnic table outside on their patio and they bring your food to you. The new outdoor space is so nice, that's where we ended up sitting on a beautiful day. The food was everything I thought it would be and more. The pimento cheese burger on Texas toast was drippy, buttery goodness. There is no lack of toppings on this monster of a burger. I also tried their hot dog with chili and cheese. I love that their chili has chunks of meat in it making it hearty. For sides I got sweet potato fries with honey mustard for dipping and Mac and cheese. Both perfect sides to go with a burger. A good local spot for burgers. It's a fairly small location so there is some indoor and some outdoor seating available, but it is limited. We were able to order our food very quickly at the counter and find a seat inside. The kitchen is open so you can watch them make all the food while you wait. They're very friendly and were able to take orders/move the line very quickly. We opted to order one of the burgers from the menu rather than building our own. We were informed that the burgers are served medium well unless otherwise requested. The El Diablo was not as spicy as expected based off of the name, but was still packed with flavor. We were in the area and wanted to grab something to eat. My wife did her usual searching on Yelp and Emma Keys has been on our list of places to try for quite some time. Located in a neighborhood area with other restaurants, bars, coffee and grocery, parking can be a bit tricky depending on the time of day since it is primarily street parking only. It is very close to the Lindley Park and Brice Street areas of Greensboro. It is less than 10 blocks from the University of North Carolina, Greensboro. The building itself is a charming retro building with a large outdoor space. The building used to be a barbershop in the 50's. With a little research, we learned the name comes from the memory of the owner's Mississippi grandmother, a great cook named Emma and the "Keys" part comes from it's past history as Keys Barber Shop. There are a few tables inside but a majority of the seating is outside. There are tables with umbrellas to accommodate most weather conditions. We were immediately greeted upon walking in the door and provided a menu to look over before ordering at the counter. Menu options range from hotdogs, salads, burgers, sandwiches and various sides such as regular and sweet potato fries. The prices were very reasonable and we were given a number to place on our table. A short while later a young man brought our orders to us and they looked delicious! It's been a long time since I visited Emma Keys, but we were in the neighborhood and were craving burgers, so gave it a try. Unfortunately as we walked in we noticed a sign that their fryer was down, so that meant no fries...:bad start to the visit. We placed our order, took our number card and grabbed a seat outside. They've got a nice, outdoor area, which was nice to enjoy on a beautiful day. Service was fairly quick, and the burgers were brought out to us. Holy cow, this is why it is so important, critical even, that you spend some time updating your old reviews when they get stale. In my case, 9 years stale! Yelp has been around 20 years now, so while you may be certain you have reviewed a place... it may have been quite awhile, and you probably need to refresh your thoughts so the community knows it is up to date. Emma Keys is a prime example of this! Since my original review, Emma Keys went in to a period of uncertainty, where things weren't going quite so well behind the scenes. As of a little over a year ago, that time is over. There are new owners that are committed to re-cementing this Lindley Park burger stop as one of the best places in town to get some beefy goodness. I'm here to tell you the have succeeded, and really breathed life back into this building. It's time you stop in again and see why. I ordered the back porch burger which has pimento cheese, pickles, a fried egg, lettuce, and for that texture switch up... potato chips. This burger is one you have to try. Though a bit messy as you might figure, it all just works. Pimento cheese can sometime overpower everything, but here you have the egg and lettuce providing a little bitter heartiness, pickles for a vinegar note, and the crunch of the Lay's potato chips prevents a mushy mouth feel. It's an awesome sandwich that you outta give a chance. I got mine with onion rings, and while eating them, swore they were made in house. Turns out they aren't, but that totally fooled me. They have a good supplier for these, and I recommend them. Service at the counter is prompt and friendly, and when the weather is nice is when EKs truly shines. I ordered the Lone Star burger with sweet potato fries, and my coworker got the chimichurri veggie burger. Both were incredible. The BBQ flavor on the burger paired perfectly with the sweet potato fries, which had brown sugar on top--such a good sweet-and-savory combo. Update: I went back to request fresh fries and they quickly prepared Me a new order and they were nice and hot and this time it came with a sweet dipping sauce and omg it was like apple pie filling but creamy and drizzly and without the apples with all the caramel flavor profiles. It was amazing and I just wanted to keep dipping. I did still have to leave it at a 4 star however because without the sauce idk if I'd reorder the sweet potato fries. So this could have been a 5 star review but the temperature of the French fries was not great. I picked up the order as they were bagging it and by the time I got back to uncg to eat which is less than 5 minutes away the fries were super cold, so that to me tells me they weren't fresh when I got them. The seasoning however was fantastic it was like there was cinnamon on them but also salt. Had they been hot they may have been great.. The hot dog was excellent and had a nice snap to it, and you can never go wrong with a well done cheeseburger. I had the pleasure of attending a Yelp Elite event at Emma Keys earlier this year and I absolutely fell in love. I LOVE a good burger, but this place has GREAT burgers. When I went for the event, I ordered the Swiss Bliss and French Fries. The burger was juicy, well-seasoned, and flavorful all around. The fries were crispy and wonderful. I am always a little skeptical when I return to a business after an event because some business put their best foot forward for the organized events, but that same standard doesn't permeate throughout their regular service days. On my return visit to Emma Keys following the event, I brought a friend so I could share the deliciousness with them and I was pleased to learn that the service and quality from the event was the standard and not the exception. I ordered the Swiss Bliss and fries again because it hit the spot the first time and it did it again the second. Ahhhh my mouth is watering writing this now. For the burger and fries my total was $14.94 (tip not included in that total). One of the great things about Emma Keys aside from the consistently solid food, is the location and set up. You can either sit inside in a smaller diner style setup or hang out outside on the picnic tables (with umbrellas). There are other restaurants nearby and enough parking around the area (street and lots). It's quaint and cute and tasty. I picked up a door dash order here before and wanted to try it. I finally took my kids so we could, and boy it was expensive! I do appreciate them telling me that the wait on food would be long. That way we were able to decide if we wanted to still order or not. It's a cute vibe. Small on the inside, but picnic tables on the outside. Me and my daughter ordered burgers, and I got fries, and my son ordered chicken tenders and fries. My burger was good. My daughter enjoyed hers too. My son just never eats his chicken tenders. The fries I ordered had too much rosemary, but not even actual seasoning for me. We did wait about an hour for our food, but like I said it was expected. I would go back, just not when I have to pay for all 3 of us alone again. lol read more

Y'all, do not sleep on Emma Keys! They are under new ownership, and they are just as good as they were before. Everyone talks about that place I won't name in this review with the "Best Burger in the Country," but we have so many places in GSO that I would argue are even better...including Emma Keys. My spouse and I split the Lone Star Burger and the Back Porch Burger. The Lone Star Burger was the winner for me, but both were outstanding. The Back Porch Burger comes with a fried egg on top, and had we eaten in instead of scarfing down our burgers in the car, we would have wanted the egg runny. I was glad to split this burger, because it was pretty rich. The potato chips on top gave it a good (and necessary) crunch. The Lone Star Burger's flavor combo of sweet BBQ and salty from the bacon and fried onion straws can't be beat. And that garlic aoli is drool worthy. We had the sweet potato fries and onion rings on the side. Note: fries are purchased separately, and at $11/burger, this is not your cheapest burger joint, but it's on par with everywhere else these days and definitely worth it. The sweet potato fries could have used a little bit more salt, but that is just my preference, I think. And I have no idea what sauce came with it (it was like an apple butter, maybe?), but I could have eaten that by the spoonful. The onion rings were the best we've had anywhere in this area. Honey mustard would have been a nice dipping sauce for them, but again, that might be our preference. Our only real note on the onion rings is that the crunch on them was so loud, it nearly woke our sleeping kids in the back seat while we had our lunch date in the car.
