In the online shopping age, you place faith in things you cannot see. You establish trust based on the things you order being delivered timely and whole. It works for all kinds of things; off the rack clothes, protein powder, US Government debt, drawings of apes (remember those?), you name it, you can buy it. Let me tell you one very important purchase where there is no room for online shopping faith: golf clubs. Listen, I'm your typical high handicapper. I'm talking... very high. Like Whitney Houston high. So when I'm shopping for irons and a golf club manufacturer talks about AI Smoke or dual tungsten weighting, I'm going to be honest with you. I don't know -- nor do I care -- what the f-- they're talking about. All I know is, if it feels good, like I could swing it 150 times over the course of 36 holes and yes, you read that number and did your math correctly, then yes. Those are the clubs I need. Now I'm a fairly big dude, and unfortunately this makes my need to get fitted for proper clubs even more serious. Us big fellas will take a standard length club and perform Olympic level swing-nastics to protect our back. We will most likely fail and have our back screaming at us while we see our score reach Palm Desert afternoon temperature levels. So, for me, the most important thing when it comes to picking a set of irons is comfort and feel. If I'm going to be swinging this a lot, at least make sure it feels good doing it. Omer knew this right away. He's dealt with tall people, I'm sure he's dealt with smaller people and everything in between. And he was quick, deliberate and no BS in his recommendations. He saw my swing and then picked out a few great clubs. He explained taller folks with long wrist-to-floors need clubs that extend well before they leave the factory and in the mfg process -- not just aftermarket extensions. I appreciated that bit of advice and his clear explanations in the lengthening process and how it differed from manufacturer to manufacturer. He didn't speak AI Smoke-up-my-ass-anese. He gave me practical bits like "this might create a weak point in the club and break your shaft on a bad swing." He explained it realistically looking out for me, the high-handicapper. And here's the thing -- did I have to pay $150 and schedule an appointment with Omer to know this? No I did not. You know exactly what I'm talking about guys. Of all the things I knew I wasn't doing, I wasn't about to pay $150 and schedule an appointment to be pitched to and upsold. Here I am at Roger Dunn completely for free. Omer dropping truth bombs on what I need and keeping it simple. No passing judgment, no snobby upsell tactics, just straight knowledge and work. I appreciated him a lot. Also shoutout to Lawrence in shoes, who let me try on a few pairs and was super helpful helping me find the shoes I'd want. Finally, thanks David at the front. The morning crew today took me in and were super helpful. The team here is great and have an approach that's welcoming even for a total golf schmuck like me. I've been going to Rodger Dunn for years without any issues but my last visit was very disappointing. I went to purchase a new set of irons and was surprised that they didn't have them in stock. The sales associate said he would call around to find them. He said he found a set and when I went to pick them up five days later they were used! The manager offered no apology and said he could take ten percent off of the price. He also said that I couldn't even order a new set. While still at the counter I found and purchased the set from an online store. They should be delivered to my house in two days. read more

Roger Dunn is a great business for any golfer at any level. There are multiple stores in southern CA. Of the maybe 7 I've been to over the past 10+years, this location is my least favorite. It's not because of the selection or the setup of the store. It's because of the sales manager. Specifically the front sales manager, I believe his name is Isaac. Today Isaac went out of his way to ring me up at another associates register when I'd told the associate i had a 20% off code texted to me yesterday that was good for 2 days. I found 2 used clubs to purchase, 1 driving iron priced at $199 and 1 Cleveland lob Wedge priced at $69. Isaac told me that the coupon would be applied to the lowest priced item. I'll repeat that in his words, "the code is only gonna be applied to the lower priced item of the 2". I told him that if that's the policy then I'll just purchase the driving iron. He paused and looked at me as a nearly worthy adversary instead of as a customer and took the wedge and set it aside to restock later. I purchased the 2 iron and left a bit confused. Honestly, I'm trying to figure out if Isaac made up that policy because he wanted to generate more revenue for his store or if he did it because he doesn't like customers. Either way it's not a great look. I'd advise against dealing with Isaac if you must go to this location. At least until Isaac finds his way into a line of work that doesn't require that he interacts with pesky customers trying to make purchases with discount codes. read more

I scheduled the 2hr "full bag fitting" i had only my starter set of irons and knew it was a good time to upgrade. First off. Nicholas Nguyen is among one of the best guys ive worked with for fitting and advice. I did the 2hr session with him and left with one of those feelings you only get when you know it was worth every cent. To put it lightly i left with a set of irons, the mini driver brnr and couldn't be happier out on the course. Its honestly the most invaluable information. A cashier rung us up for a jacket. The computer came back with $75 and he said since there is no "sale sticker" on the jacket's label, he is changing the price back to $100. I pulled up my phone and went on the website during the transaction because it seemed a bit suspicious, and the website said $75. I didn't appreciate that the cashier was adamant about changing the price back to the label pricing even tho it was $75 online. Of course out of pettiness, we initiated a return for the difference. Also took my women's driver here to get a new shaft. They ignored the fact that the shaft had a flex. The new shaft they fitted was a ladies standard, which has zero flex. I haven't been able to hit the ball like I used to. On top of that, they did not make any effort to get me fitted. This experience was not that impressive and I ended up going to Golf Galaxy and the folks there helped me with the new Taylormade Qi10. I just couldn't stand using my driver w/ a new shaft that Roger Dunn fitted with. read more

If you are going in for re-grip, make sure you have enough time if you are bringing in more than a few clubs. They don't necessarily go by fcfs. They will work on customers with less clubs first. Today I took my entire set of clubs to get the grips exchanged. When I showed my grips to the gentlemen who worked in the service department, they looked at my slippery grips and instead of making me purchase 14 new grips at $13 a pop, they advised me to just wipe the grips (that just have dust buildup on them) w a warm wet towel. Lo and behold, I did just that and the grips now look and feel good as new! That's why this place is my go to for all things golf! Thank you fellas!! read more

Their Used clubs are in good condition and you can always get new model year clubs for a couple bucks off but they don't have some of the thrift store cheap stuff that other shops might. One of my favorite places to shop everything golf. If you are just getting into the sport the used club section is really good for parting out a full set for not that much money. The driving walls are also really well kept for you to test out clubs while there. My experiences here have been great overall. The staff is somewhat friendly when asked but most don't seem interested in helping customers and would rather hangout with each other which is a bummer. I have never been treated so rudely by a club repair team and would caution anyone about coming here especially on a weekend to get club work done. experience 2: my wife purchased some clothing that was on a buy one get one 50% off. The clerk rung up the sale incorrectly then would not fix it and insisted that she meet with the manager to fix. No apologies. Fortunately, the manager was able to fix it. again, this was a Sunday experience. We have come here for some time and have had this consistent type of behavior. During the week: wonderful. The manager here is atrocious. Went to purchase a travel case from them and drop of clubs for shipping (as they are a drop off location for Ship Sticks). I had called ahead and was told no problem to come in -- and was never told I needed to bring the paperwork with me. The manager said because I hadn't printed the paperwork ahead of time, they wouldn't ship them. I offered to do it on my phone and email them so they could print it -- and was told, "That is not a service we offer, you can find a Staples" and they refused to help in any way -- even after I said I was short on time and asked if there was anything they could do to help. So they didn't sell a $400 travel case because they wouldn't help print a piece of paper for a service that they are a drop-off location for. Horrible. read more

Nothing more annoying that great selection of new and used golf equipment at the West LA store. As a shitty golfer with many years of experience, I am completely annoyed by the confidence of the staff who work here. There is no doubt in my mind, that they are all good golfers. I hate that because their knowledge and confidence about golf oozes out of the store and into the parking lot. Ugh. Because of my low self esteem, I only buy used/trade in equipment. Thanks to unsupportive parents and backstabbing siblings, I feel that I do not deserve nice golf equipment. Ever! My least favorite negative reinforcement is to scan the trade ins for that diamond in the rough. Like me, that 10 year old driver or wedge can definitely remove shots from my 130 handicap. I have purchased 4 woods here, most as low as $20 for clubs better than my current set. After having kids, you leave your house and realize that the world have move on from TaylorMade Burners, R5 and R7s. You know who hasn't, this guy right here. Now I have 2 sets of old shitty clubs and newer shitty clubs. The hitting stalls are amazing here. I can hit a driver for a 260 yd carry for $500. Yes Please!! The launch monitors tell you(like a therapist) how great life can be but since you are comfortable being a the bottom level of Maslow's Hierarchy, you grab a trade in instead. I found a Vessel golf bag here and instantly fell in love. Like my instagram model crush, i realized that she only F's with Pro Athletes and Rappers. Don't fall for the "this bag is selling fast and we only have these left" BS. Check online...it still will cost you an organ or some deviant sexual act to get the money to pay for it. We spent an hour hitting different drivers but there was zero discussions about different shaft lengths, weights, lofts, etc. It was literally just hitting balls with different random drivers. Loved my first visit to this store! Even before hitting at a driving range my visit here has gotten me very excited about taking up golf as a hobby. Vanessa was super helpful at the front desk and I don't have enough kind words for Ken in the club department, he is a HUGE asset to the store. Ken was so helpful to fit us for clubs, show us some tips and even let us take some strokes using their practice areas. I could not believe how much time and patience Ken had to answer all of our questions and really get us excited about the sport. No doubt Ken has the knowledge and long time experience to guide people into the right equipment. He was extremely knowledgeable and had a keen eye for detecting which equipment worked best when watching the hitting strokes. I got the sense he genuinely had a true love for the sport and wanted to build knowledge and confidence with the consumer. Ken made our time and experience at Roger Dunn worthwhile. We had a blast hitting some balls with the correct sized drivers and even learning some putting techniques. This store is HUGE, they have anything and everything you would need for the game of golf, apparel, accessories, etc. about 5 or 6 really nice hitting practice testing areas to try out equipment before you buy. Roger Dunn is a must stop for a novice like me, or a long time golfer, as I saw many in the store who obviously knew and looked like they knew what they were doing and had incredible strokes as I watched them confidently swing away at the practice areas. read more

i love roger dunn but i had a pretty crappy experience the other day. It just sucks when you're dealing with someone who HATES their job. It makes the whole experience, especially trying out clubs such a hassle any time you have a question. If you're gonna run the station where people try out clubs, be there, pay attention and run the computer. If you're gone for 10 min yea, i'm gonna run the computer myself, and don't scold me that i'm not supposed to do it when you're not there or you're looking up tee times on the computer at the desk. Greatest thing about these golf shops is that they have a 90 day return policy. So you can try out clubs and then return/exchange them for another one. I believe this is just for the long clubs and not for irons or sets. The shops depending on location have a large selection of clothing and equipment. So I went in with the need to replace my ferule on my Sim2 3 wood . I waited about 3 minutes before one of the 3 guys there decided to address me . This is around 3:30 on Friday I explained I'm in a bind have a tournament Saturday and need this club repaired. Mind you In the past 4 years I have spent about $6K in this store . The guy starts quoting me a pull shaft charge a pull fitting charge plus $29.00 for the part so around $70.00 I said ok let's do this thinking that he will kick it out right there 20min wait. He writes it up and then says it will be ready Saturday afternoon !!! I said I just told you I need it for a tournament and he gives me this look like well we have a lot of re grips ahead of you!! I left very unhappy looked up South Bay Golf Repair and my man Vern had me hooked up in 20 minutes for $20.00 less on the spot !! This man knows hat he's doing in all club repairs and re grips on the spot if your not happy with the expensive services on RD go see Vern @ SOUTH BAY GOLF REPAIR ! Thanks Roger Dunn for letting me drop $500 on a club. Yes...I went in, tested a couple of clubs (mainly the Titleist 915 D3) and came out 5 bills lighter. Thanks to Mark at the club demo area who help me with the club selection. I was driving the ball with the Titleist over 300 yards a drive and with Mark saying the swing equipment was legit, sold me on the Titleist 915 D3 8.5 loft with the Diamana D70 X-flex shaft. I pretty much had my mind set on the Titleist but had to demo it first before I dropped $450.00 for it plus tax...$500. This location has tons of clubs and plenty of parking. I was able to demo hit the clubs without anyone waiting for me to finish. Roger Dunn has a 90 day return policy for store credit. I was very hesistant spending all that money on just one driver. My older Nike Covert wasn't getting me the distance to keep up with my brother and my friends....hopefully i'll be able to compete with them now. This 915 driver is $50 more than the 913 driver that came out 2 years ago. read more

These guys are running a rip off fest. They will buy your club "used" and resell it for 200 dollars more than they give you. When I asked a golf pro about this he said he agreed with me and that it's ridiculous and that he AGREED with me. Absolutely dumbfounded as to why people keep giving money to this scum bag business. Additionally my driver broke and they would not allow me to exchange unless they got the warrantied "fixed" driver before hand. They told me they'd call me when they got it and I said hell no, will not leave my driver here and leave empty handed. Manager tried to rip me off, and had his buddy cut me in line. This place is trash, go to the one in seal beach it is run way better than this location and they will not rip you off on Club pricing or exchanges. Last week I made the mistake of having the Roger Dunn in Mission Viejo, put oversized, instead of midsize grips on 4 of my clubs. Again, my fault, and wasn't paying attention (nice $50 plus mistake I made!). I live up in Bell, and the closest Roger Dunn's to me are 1) Seal Beach, and (2) L.A.. I called the Seal Beach location, and she quoted me a couple of days for 5 clubs. When I called the Los Angeles location, I explained my boo boo, and they transferred me to Tyler in repairs. Since this is an hour round trip, I asked the turn around time, and he said "If you can get here quickly, I'll take care of you" (I called 15 minutes prior to opening). Got there by 10:15, and was out within the hour. Allowed me some time to finally be able to browse (thanks COVID-19!) and buy a couple more things. I continue to shop and bring my business to Roger Dunn in various locations, though it's your team members such as Tyler, that really have me returning. I had an excellent experience here. My husband died last year and he had a bunch of golf clubs. I am not a golfer and decided to sell them. Going online it's impossible for me, a non-golfer, to know what each club is and the value. I know my husband used to shop here so I thought of contacting them. I went in for an estimate. I told them I wasn't planning to trade them in but wanted to get an idea of the value. The manager spent about 20+ minutes going through each club and writing down the value. He gave me a good ballpark price and I already sold them to a private buyer. As I walked to my car he kindly asked how I was doing and was just such a nice person. It's always a treat to step into Rodger Dunn, mostly due to the thought of playing more golf but also this is truly a great golf shop! They have it all from clothes, clubs, shoes to balls & gloves. The service however is what really makes this particular Rodger Dunn my all time favorite. I've found good (not great deals) but I always leave with something of quality that lasts... My girlfriend & I needed golf shoes before our round and we were helped accordingly, quick and selection. We ended up finding one on the sale rack too! And having enough time to pick up an outfit or two. I most recently I got myself a new Scotty Cameron, might be buyers high or retail therapy but I'm giddy every chance I get to use it! The selection is so vast, I was not expecting to walkout with a new putter that day. Furthermore, the manager even graciously gave me a slight discount when they noticed a tiny knock in on the toe... I appreciated that very much, thank you! Also they have killer non branded gloves! Only 5.99 and they fit & feel better than 5.99.
