Roger's has the potential for being the best pet supplies store in town. It has a huge selection of high quality of dog and cat food. For example, (dog food) Rogers carries Fromm, Acana, Orijen. These brands are all grain free, fresh, and the body protein of the food ranges from bison, duck, rabbit, lamb, etc., Wild Game. If you were thinking about feeding your dog raw meet but you can't afford it, these brands are very close to it. Rogers has all of these and more, and you will not find this type of high quality food in Pet Smart/Petco, etc. I own a Great Dane and he is not only a picky eater, but he has a sensitive tummy. I went through 5 dog foods until I finally found Fromm, the duck and rabbit formula, and FINALLY he likes his food and it does not give him a tummy ache. What this store is lacking is customer service. The woman behind the counter (and I'm guessing owner) is NOT friendly. If you buy 12 bags of one particular dog food (and same size), you get the 13th one free. You just need to cut out the barcode and keep track of the dates you bought the bag on the little slip of paper they give you. I was so excited to get my free bag. The woman had to put a damper on it and say "it's NOT free, it's 6 dollars and change," and her tone was kind of hmm RUDE. Of course I know you need to pay taxes, but 69.00 for one bag down to whatever the tax is basically free for me!!! Once in a while you might find a young boy who is willing to carry out the bag for you to your car, but that is RARE. SO rare, that every time I see the young boy I give him a tip. Most of the time I bring my 30 pound bag of dog food up to the counter and the woman rings me up, no offering to carry it out or get me a cart, nothing. Yet there are usually two or three people behind the counter with her...I think they are family. The store closes at 5:00. You better be OUT by 5. I got there around 4:45 once and I felt like I did something wrong.... it was like the store was ushering me out before it was even closing time. Oh and get this, you CANNOT bring your DOG into the store!!!! WHAT??? I bring my dog everywhere I can, but no dogs allowed. I'm talking not even on a leash. YET, the owners of the store have THEIR dogs behind the counter. How is that fair? Anyhow, I continue to shop here only because it's the closest to my house and carries what my dog eats. Roger's has been in the area for a long time because I remember going there when my dogs were still alive to get better quality supplies. They have BETTER QUALITY DOG and CAT FOOD, among other things, that you cannot get at big box pet stores. Feeding your dog or cat the mainstream grocery store brands is like giving them fast food all the time. It will sustain them, but it won't provide them the proper nutrition. Roger's understands this, and you can get everything there. It's nice also supporting a local business. Some of the other reviewers are correct that some of the staff or owners could be a little friendlier and more accommodating to their customers. It should also be mentioned that they could have longer hours, too. 6 pm is an early time to close when I have to work a 9-5 schedule, and I am often away on the weekends. The other day I felt rushed out, when I was going to make a larger purchase. I also just got a new cat and was considering buying all my food long-term there. Always get our dog food here, the largest selection I've seen in an independent pet store. I also shop there for my birdseed and feeders. Always someone willing to carry your bags out to your car, cashiers are appropriate but real friendly. Cash register check out space is so narrow as the countertop is completely filled up with impulse items, especially when you have a 30 pound bag of dog food there's almost no place to put it. They have many unique items so it's a lot of fun to just walk through the place. read more

After making a purchase from their large selection of various pet foods, I returned to my car only to learn that I had run of out of gas. The owner came out and without my asking, drove to the nearest gas station with a can and returned and filled up my tank. If that wasn't enough, he refused to take a penny from me. He advised I just do something nice for someone else! He made my day and renewed my faith in humanity. I have been coming to Roger's for YEARS. I was ecstatic upon my very first visit to find that their prices were *so* much better than those at the big pet chain box stores. I have guinea pigs and am very happy that they carry the OxBow brands of bedding, pellets and hay. I use nothing else for my wee wheekers. Not too terribly long ago, OxBow came out with a different feed for adult guinea pigs. I asked Anna, the store manager, if it could please be ordered for me, which it was. This is not an item that is normally carried on the shelves, as it seems as I'm the only one who uses it! Nevertheless, all I need do is call the week prior and it arrives on the delivery truck the following week. Anna even goes so far as to order a back-up bag for me when I need it. I did not ask her to do this, but I am grateful that she does! Recently, I had an injury to my left leg and am in a walking boot. This makes getting in and out of my vehicle VERY difficult, and even more painful! This morning I called and asked if I paid for some items ahead of time, would they be able to bring the items to my vehicle upon my arrival. I was told that they could not do credit cards over the phone, however, the young lady I spoke with asked what I needed and would put the items aside for me. All I needed to do was to call them when I was outside, and they would come out and then process my credit card. True to their word, I pulled up to the store this afternoon, called them and Amy, another woman whom I have become friendly with, brought my items (two bags of bedding and one bag of hay) and gladly loaded them into the back of my Jeep. Another young lady, most likely the one I spoke with this morning, came out, told me what my total was and went back inside to process the credit card purchase. Fantastic prices aside, THIS is why I choose Roger's each and every time over the big pet box stores. They are extremely knowledgeable and always willing to help. They know their products! Sometimes, but very rarely, I do need to visit the big box stores (usually PetSmart) to find an item that only they carry. Okay, no big deal. The first time I came to this store the staff were very friendly and happy to meet myself and my little pup. I purchased the brand of dog food that I can't find anywhere else within a reasonable distance, and a couple bones/treats/toys. My second visit was recent and disappointing. I walked in the front door with my dog on leash. Within a few steps I was asked by a staff member to hold my dog instead of letting her walk on the floor. I'm pretty shocked (it's a PET STORE) so I asked "why?". The staff member told me it was the store owner's preference, and something about insurance. I stood there dumbfounded for a moment, picked up my dog and the food I get there (which I will be ordering online after this), then left. Roger's is the only place I will buy food for my dog. I like to buy local to support family owned businesses when I can but the quality of the product, selection and people at the store make it a no brainer to shop here. And quite frankly, I pay the same or less than if I ordered the food direct from the brand website shipped to my house. I buy two large (heavy) bags at a time and I have never had to carry them to the register or car myself; there is always someone available to help. I have been shopping at Roger's since before they moved from their location on Brick Boulevard. I knew the owner, Ann, and was saddened by her passing a few years ago. I had read some of the negative reviews here but wasn't dissuaded from shopping here because the prices are reasonable and they would always carry my 50 pound bags to my car. I stopped by yesterday (I was in the neighborhood shopping) to pick up two bags of grain. The woman at the counter went ahead and charged my credit card while waiting for the feed to be brought from the storage area. The stock person came out and said they were out of the product I needed. Since my order was already charged, there was some discussion about what to do next. I considered leaving the charge and picking up the product when it came it, but there was some hesitancy about giving me a voucher (which I understood), so I agreed for them to void my charge. I asked when they would have the feed in stock. The cashier's (manager?) reply was, "Tomorrow." I asked, "What time?" and was told 9 o'clock. I asked when they opened tomorrow (i.e., today) and was told, "Nine o'clock," but was then cautioned that it would take some time for them to unload the truck. I had an early appointment in Brick this morning, finished that, then went to Rogers to wait for them to open, knowing that the wait to get my feed might take some time. I was willing to wait, rather than make a second trip from my home. I went in a few minutes after they opened and talked to the same woman who interacted with me the afternoon before. I thought she might recognize me since it had been less than 18 hours since I had been there. She stared at me with no recognition and asked me what I wanted (we had had a focused interaction the previous afternoon, but okay, maybe her morning was already off to a bad start). When I replied with what I wanted, I was sure she would recall our earlier interaction, but instead, she replied abruptly, "We're all out of scratch grains." I said I understood, but I was told it would be on this morning's truck. She said the truck hadn't arrived yet. When I tactfully replied that she had said yesterday that the truck would be there at 9 o'clock, she shut me down with, "I said it would be here tomorrow morning," which is not what she said yesterday. At that point, the owner, Al, who was observing the interaction, said, "The morning's not over yet;" not what I wanted to hear. I left at that point, dissatisfied with the way I had been treated, essentially being told that I was mistaken in what I heard or was lying, and the owner backing up his employee. I think I'm done with Rogers. There is another feed supply store an equal distance from me in Jackson. The cost is higher, but not unreasonably so, and I've never been treated as rudely by the office manager there as I was at Rogers. According to the reviews, my experience was not unique. A message to Al: Local businesses succeed when in competition with big box stores because of the relationships their employees make with the customers. Hire a store manager who understands that and who will guide her/his other employees to do the same. read more

I've been coming here for a few years now - I love this store! They have the most amazing prices on premium dog food and an amazing selection. You'll save a lot of $ here vs. going to the nearby chain stores on brands like Blue Buffalo, Nutro, Merrick, etc! The staff is knowledgeable and friendly, and they often volunteer carry larger bags of food out to my car for me. Roger's also has a great variety of food by the pound for small animals and birds, and great prices on small animal bedding. I head in every few weeks to get lab blocks for my pet rats. It must be as on any givin weekend you will see license plates from neighboring states in the parking lot...that tells me that people are coming from miles away to get that hard to find item at a great price! They carry all the top of the line pet food that you can not get in a food store or the other big name pet stores as well as the ones that you can! ;) If there is something special that you want that they do not have, they can order it & you will have it within the week! I haven't been to Roger's in years... Today I went there for some treats for my dog and maybe some bird seed, of course I brought the dog, only to be told that the manager does not allow leashed pets, only ones you can carry. That's fine if you want to have an idiotic policy that hurts business, Ember and I were welcomed with open arms at Petsmart across the street. The worst part is, it was 2 o'clock in the afternoon on the night after we had an ice storm. They had been open for 5 hours and the parking lot was a sheet of ice except for a 4x4 foot section that they had cleared in front of the door... Dangerous, bad, never again shopping here. read more
