Leo is our family dog and he is a 13 year old Cocker Spaniel/American Eskimo mix. Hi everyone, my name is Prince Bastes and I wanted to share my story with Rogue K9 Academy. Here is the back story, I had many family dogs growing up, but in sixth grade (1999) I was attacked by a chow chow/Doberman mix dog and required 26 stiches in the emergency room. The following day, my leg was swollen, started turning purple and was not able to apply pressure on it. If you have dogs with behavioral issues, this is it. You've found your place. I could go on and on but I'll keep it simple. The trainer: Allie is amazing. Not only is she knowledgeable but she CARES. She cares about the dogs, she cares about you and she cares about your relationship with your dog. She is always available and quick to respond with any questions or feedback. I am a virtual client so this is super helpful. The training method: It is not cruel. It works on leadership in a respectful way to your dog. The way I see it, you're teaching your dog first what you want them to do in a safe and fun way and only when you are sure the dog absolutely understands what you are asking of them, will you introduce any sort of correction and these are done using the absolute least amount needed. Just as (hopefully) you wouldn't beat up your kid for disobeying you, especially if they don't even know what they did wrong, you won't do that to your dog either. It is work for both you and your dog, not magic but I enjoy working with my dog and he absolutely loves training. The results: I can only speak about my experience. I am sure everyone and every dog is different so their journey might be different as well. My dog is reactive to other dogs and people. He can be very friendly at times and totally freak out another time. What we work on is that when he is with me and under a command (heel, sit, etc.) all is good. He is safe and I have the situation under control. Does this mean he'll never bark or react to other dogs or people? No, it doesn't. But I don't want that either. He has the freedom to be himself and I respect that. Some of it is in his breed. Moreover, he warns me of potentially dangerous situations and I know he'll try to protect too if needed. We started training with Allie in Sept 2021 after our dog Rigatoni had reached an all-time high with aggression behaviors. He's always been sweet with my husband and I, but absolutely hates all other humans, with multiple bite attempts (and successes). We were so discouraged for so long but with Allie's help and lots of hard work and slow progress over the past 16 months, we've learned how to manage and prevent Rigatoni's behaviors and I am confident with handling him and giving him commands to help him feel secure instead of anxious and aggressive. My dog Pepper is a fear aggressive rescued Australian Shepherd, and has a lot of anxiety. We were dealing with it as best we could for a while. I really wanted to work with a trainer because I knew she had so much potential and Pep is the sweetest baby to non-strangers. I always told myself, what's some money and a few months of really hard work, if I can come out of it with a happy and trusting pup for the rest of her life? However, I tried other trainers, and I couldn't find anyone willing to really invest in her because of her behavioral issues. They would also up-charge us like crazy, only for Pep to end up with no real help or improvement. We didn't feel heard or understood, and were often essentially told that she was hopeless/good luck, or we were just given up on before we even began. So for a while, I gave up on trainers, and I researched and did as much as I could on my own to help her. Teddy was a 4 year old Shar Pei who was true to his breed and was very aggressive, rowdy and had no structure to his life. We wanted him to enjoy his life more and make our relationship with him enjoyable and more companion like with us and others. 1) What prompted you to seek professional help for you and your dog? I got my puppy Paloma with the intentions of seeking professional help but looked for help very early on due to aggressive behaviors like growling and biting at about 2 1/2 months old. I was calling different trainers explaining to them my situation, I decided on one training company and quickly regretted it. I signed up for a pack of puppy group classes hoping they could give me any type of help in dealing with these behaviors. We showed up to the first class where Paloma was lunging and barking , they moved us to the back of the class and suggested we sit out the session and just observe the other puppies, they quickly suggested a boarding program as she was "too dependent" on me and needed to be handled for two weeks in their boarding program. I found Allie quickly after that, feeling hopeless because I had a puppy who was getting bigger and stronger with a mean bite. Right away Allie discussed her training approach and seemed very excited to start working with us. 2) Were your concerns addressed? Was the training plan simple and effective? Yes !! Allie and I sat down and discussed goals and behaviors that I would like to see from Paloma. Allie laid out a simple and effective training plan, she explained how a great relationship and leadership are very important in training, she explained that I would be handling Paloma as it was important to build the trust in our relationship. The plan was provided to me through a google doc, which I found super helpful. Allie constantly uploaded new info into the doc with homework and updates of the previous session. 3) Was your dog happy and comfortable with the methods used?  My dog loves Allie and was always excited to start sessions. I would say that Paloma became happier after having gone to training sessions with Allie as it made our relationship less stressful and more enjoyable. Allie always ensured to answer any questions I had regarding a method we were using. Paloma never looked uncomfortable or unhappy with any of the methods used in training. 4) Did you feel like the training was transparent and humane? Allie was very transparent in all of her approaches. Before introducing a new method to Paloma, Allie ensured that I felt comfortable modeling the training before applying it to Paloma. She had check-ins to check on Paloma's development and even kept record of all our sessions and provided videos so that I could go back and learn from them. Was the training plan simple and effective? Yes and Yes! The first few people I reached out to said that we would definitely have to rehome one of our girls. Our dogs were always on the slightly heavy side, and as soon as Allie gave us input on their diet and their eating habits, both of our girls dropped to a "perfect weight" according to their doctor. I read numerous articles and watched YouTube videos left and right, but I just felt more confused than ever. Ringo was pulling on walks and talking to me by barking at me I didn't know how to communicate with my best friend. 2) Were your concerns addressed? Was the training plan simple and effective? It was so simple and I never felt like I was overloaded with information. 3) Was your dog happy and comfortable with the methods used? Ringo is a shy boy and Allie never forced us to do anything outside of his comfort zone. I felt extremely comfortable with Allie and her effort in educating us every step of the way. 1) What prompted you to seek professional help for you and your dog? I started looking for professional help because I got a 6 week old Cane corso named Chewbacca. My dream dog since I was young has always been a Cane Corso I love how big and beautiful this breed gets. So when I turned 21 I went on a grand search to find my perfect fur baby. I found him but I realized that the older he was getting he was becoming very dominant in our relationship. I couldn't walk him because he would just pull,and if he saw another dog or person he would just want to bolt because he was scared. He also wouldn't listen to me at all I couldn't get him to sit or lay down or come. I knew I needed to get help because he was just getting bigger and it would be unsafe for me to take him out and let's just say he got away from me there would be no way of me getting him back. 2) Were your concerns addressed? Was the training plan simple and effective? Hell yes! My concerns were more than addressed. The training was simple and Extremely effective! Allie made it super easy with putting all of our trainings in a google doc. After each training she would update the google doc with homework that I would work on with Chewy. She would also attach articles and videos of the homework that she wanted us working on which made it super easy because I would go back and watch the video's. Allie is a foundation style dog trainer which means she focus on the handler and canine's relationship. I really appreciate this because she doesn't try to change who Chewy is. She has taught me to understand him and has given me tools so that I can be a better leader for him. She has also taught me about the Premack principle which is essentially replacing undesired behavior with desired behavior this allows for my fur baby to have his freedom, get my affection and some cookies for choosing to listen to me . 3) Was your dog happy and comfortable with the methods used?  Yes! Chewy is extremely comfortable and happy with all the methods that Allie has chosen to use. Chewy is a sensitive big boy and Allie has been very kind and patient with him because he likes to take things slowly. Allie has made it possible for me to take Chewy out in public and have No Fear on how he's going to behave because of the relationship she has helped me create with him. 4) Did you feel like the training was transparent and humane? Absolutely with no doubt! Allie's training style has given me a relationship with Chewy. She has taught me how to interact with him where we both understand each other. We have very clear communication where he never has to be confused because he knows what I want. And he tries so hard to make me happy! My baby loves to work! If your dog is not following through with the training. It's most likely the handlers fault so your fault and not your dogs. Yes Allie is the "Real Deal" she is an amazing trainer! She is always available and easy to get in touch with. I don't know what I would without her! Or how mine and Chewy's relationship would be. The reason why I went with Allie for training was because I feel like this field is male dominated. When I first started looking for a trainer all of them were males and they would ask me stupid questions like " why did I get a Cane corso ? and not a poodle because I am a small woman and they are powerful dogs." Or when I'm around him I need to make sure I show him that I am the dominant one and show him who's boss and that I'm in control for him to respect/ listen to me. All of this is bullshit because from training with Allie I haven't had to be dominant or show Chewy "who's boss"for him to respect or listen to me. Allie has taught me through trust, leadership and respect, Chewy is willingly choosing to be obedient and listen to me and it's beautiful! Now In current time Chewy is in Phase three work and is allowed to be let off leash at the park because I know if I recall him he will come! Because of Allie I get compliments all the time on how well my dog is behaved.Chewy and I plan on sticking with Allie forever! 1) What prompted you to seek professional help for you and your dog? I had my dog since she was a puppy and as soon as she matured (about age 2) my dog had behavior issues. She has noise sensitivity issues so she was always anxious at least 3 times per day. It progressed to severe anxiety to where she was no longer allowed to be by herself at the house since she would destroy it and escaped at Least 10 times in one year. My dog would bark, growl, and Bite us and I was getting so frustrated with her. I dealt with the aggression from her for 3 years causing so much scars on my body and daily crying! At age 5, I was forced to do something about it or else she would have been sent to the animal shelter for another family to take her in but I knew I did not have the heart to abandon her and would have regretted it my whole life, keeping in mind she is my first ever dog pet (50lb german shepherd mix). My family members would be fed up with her and would man handle her and smack her. I at one point would smack her with a pool noodle or newspaper to "discipline" her but that obviously made things worse. I took her in and she moved in with me thinking her aggression problems would diminish, but she was still the same. I found Allie through a business card and I can proudly say I have the best dog in the whole wide world. 2) Were your concerns addressed? Was the training plan simple and effective? My concerns were 100% addressed plus MORE. You really get a whole understanding as to why your dog is the way they are from breed to behavior analysis. Allie really gave me the knowledge to help my dog. Reading my dog's behavior really helped with the way she was communicating with me so that her needs were met. The training is super simple yet effective! You just have to put in the effort, or else you will just be wasting everybody's time. You also have to trust the process. In the beginning, I had a lot of back lash from my dog because she was never trained before so she was not used to the leadership i was trying to establish. I eventually moved up to the higher phases of the training and my dog really understands her role as a dog, which in return boosted her confidence as a dog. Allie is awesome and she knows what she is doing, it is shown in her hard dedication and passion for dogs. Abuse is never tolerated. Allie will train you so that you can train your dog. She will never handle your dog, you are always in control of your dog so you really get all the hands-on experience on properly handling your dog so that Allie can critique and help you improve your dog handling skills. 4) Did you feel like the training was transparent and humane? Training was always transparent and human. We really focus on the ethics of the dog training and Allie comes from a dog training support of people that really care and love dogs to live their full potential as dogs. As you train with your dog throughout the sessions, you really feel that strong human-dog bond relationship and it is the most beautiful feeling you will ever get in life. I just wanted to take a moment to share a little bit about how life with my dog has changed, since working with Allie. My Chloe is sweet and loving and driven. She is also extremely tenacious and curious, and for the first (many)months I thought she was too much for me. That I would never be able to walk her on a leash, that she would forever run me and my house, and that my family had made a huge mistake. I complained to Allie, I cried. I vented and downright refused to believe I had the coordination to do what Allie was trying to get me to do. I would never walk my dog like I saw other people. Constantly. I thought my Chloe was ignoring me, had no idea what I wanted. That I was failing. Allie told me different. She pointed out my wins, and showed me how to improve on my weaknesses. She kept pushing me to not give up. She would often hide and avoid everyone at home, and was absolutely terrified of going outside and doing anything outside of her comfort zone. 1) What prompted you to seek professional help for you and your dog? I decided to seek professional help for my 5-month-old pit bull puppy, Mochi. I had been trying to train him on my own, but was starting to notice some behaviors that were out of my control. My puppy was starting to get dominant over me and my other dog, chewing everything in the house and digging up the yard. I also have another 6 year-old pit bull, Gunner, who I was having a hard time walking and taking him out of the house due to fear aggression. He had a lot of anxieties and would lunge at the end of the leash every time we passed another dog. At the time I contacted Allie, I was just looking for help for the puppy but Allie believes in a whole family approach and was willing to work with both dogs even though they had very different needs and personalities. 2) Were your concerns addressed? Was the training plan simple and effective? My concerns were addressed and then some. Allie went above and beyond explaining everything in a way that I completely understood. She would send me videos that outlined exactly what to do and how to adapt to things if my dog wasn't responding the way that I hoped. She was always available via text or call when I ran into any issues and troubleshooted everything with me at length. She created a google doc for me and my dogs that was super helpful so that I could look back at what we worked on and what my homework was for each dog. To be honest, Allie's style of training has completely changed my relationship with both of my dogs for the better. I have developed leadership and rapport with each dog and feel like they trust me, as a handler, so much more. Gunner was a very nervous, fear aggressive rescue dog and he's turned into this confident, obedient, amazing dog that I can finally enjoy taking out on walks. Allie once said that I rescued Gunner physically and now will rescue him emotionally and through the training, I was really able to do that. The training was definitely transparent and humane. There are three phases of training that the dogs go through for each command and Allie makes sure that the dogs understand the commands prior to advancing the phases. The dogs are given the opportunity to clearly respond to each command in a transparent and humane way. The dogs understand what they are expected to do and this has been crucial in our leadership and relationship building. 5) Allie at Rogue K9 Academy Claims to offer FULL SERVICE training....did she? Allie definitely provided FULL SERVICE training. She guided me into what gear was appropriate for my dog, educated me on proper nutrition/food choices as well as adapted our training to my specific goals.
