To replace a faucet they wanted to put in new water lines from the house main to the kitchen because as they said the plumbing is too old, 15 hears old. Totally not working and super expensive! My A/C cooling is not working properly. Call them in the morning, they come my house during lunchtime (pretty quick). Charge $119 for coming and $200 for a capacitor(they said the capacitor die cause compressor not working),so total more than $300! But after they left, A/C continued working more than 10hours, the room temperature only drop 1 degree! I check outside temp is 73, but my room temperature is 77! I settled temp is 76, 10 hours working, temperature drop from 78 to 77! Call them at 21:00 ( because they mentioned 24/7 on call), waiting 20mins no response! Very disappointed! read more

I started using Roland J Downs in September 2022 when my boiler went out and my radiators started leaking. I opted to replace the boiler and radiators. Between Sept 2022 and January 2023 I kept having to call to ask when the boiler would be installed. Finally it was installed in January and the techs started replacing radiators. I was told both jobs would only take a few days. after replacing half of the radiator elements, the technicians marked the job as complete and ghosted me. I couldn't get ahold of anyone until June 2023 and I was told the tech completed the job despite my proof they had not. They finally sent someone out to finish the radiators after several calls. Also, the technicians flooded one of my bathrooms and did not clean up, put several holes in my drywall and left standing water and mud under the radiators. Then in the first week of August I requested my complimentary startup service for the boiler and was informed that a piece on my BRAND NEW boiler was broken. The part was ordered and I was told someone would be out within the week to install this but they didn't schedule an appointment or show up. I called again the last week of August and had a tech show up a week later. The tech then broke the piece before installing. They ordered the piece again and told me the soonest they could come out was the 13th of October. I let them know that was unacceptable and someone came out and finally got my boiler operational on Monday. I have reached out to customer service continuously to resolve this and was ignored and Service finance is demanding payment on equipment that was not operational until this week. read more

I don't understand how this company is getting any business at this point. The number of horrendous reviews all saying the same thing should be an indication to any potential shoppers. We had a slow leak coming from our water pump that we wanted looked at. The guy shows up, takes a look at the problem, and says the whole thing needs to be replaced. Fine. But then he has to go outside to make a call to figure out pricing and what his next step should be. He comes back into our house (without his mask, despite the ongoing pandemic!) and tells us he'll have to give us a call the next day with pricing. We never got a call back. Fast forward to yesterday, and our slow leak becomes a big leak. We call the emergency service, they tell us the guy will be by sometime today. First, we tell him over the phone what we're looking for (new pump and larger tank) and he tells us his quote. $3900. $3900 for less than $1000 in parts. We asked for a price break down and were told they were "flat rate," and this was just the price the technician gave them. I'm disgusted by this business' practices. I don't blame either technician, as they can only be as good as their training. However this company is a sham. They are seriously over charging for their time and parts, none of their technicians know enough to give satisfying answers and overall they're wasting everyone's time and money. In the fall my financial situation changed for the worst and I have to sell my home, I have reached out to your program by phone and email the last time by email 1/30 and today , I have also called and left messages and nothing. I do not post reviews unless I have reached a limit of frustration in many ways with a company. I had a good experience with my AC in the past and decided to try Roland J Down for my gas furnace and set up a contract. After they changed my scheduled appointment twice for a routine furnace maintenance, someone came on 12/5/23. They were new and young- but that seemed okay. However, when they left and as the house got colder, I realized the system would sound like it was heating the fuel, but it did not blow heat. Someone else came a few hours later and said "the blower cap was not plugged back in". No other comments indicated any problem with the system. On 1/20/24, I woke up to a house that was 54 degrees. The system sounded like it was pushing the gas thru and trying to heat it, but no blower working. I called the 24/7 emergency number. Due to high volume of calls, they would be here between 4 and 9 p.m. I reviewed my phone number and even gave a newer landline number that rings better in my home. At 5:30p.m. I received an email....technician was on the way. No phone call, but at least an email. When he/she did NOT show by 6:30p.m., I called the same number to inquire. I was told by Nate "he was already there!" After telling him I was on the couch by the door surrounded by blankets and that NO ONE came, he further checked and stated that the tech "had called to confirm, but no one answered to confirm so he did NOT come". When I pushed with "what number did they call?", I was given a totally different number than mine. He refused to send the tech back and stated he had no supervisor or person he could ask for help in this situation. I requested another 24/7 call person who stated the same, but said a service manager would receive a report of my complaint on Sunday. I had to be rescheduled for the next morning. The tech who came Sunday was wonderful. He diagnosed that the gas valve was not working properly. After giving it "love taps" it opened and the furnace began heating the house. He checked his truck and did NOT have a new one available if it had stopped working again. He gave a price for it to be ordered and installed if it stopped working again. I received no call from any manager. I called the Scotia office on Monday morning and was told "Jennifer couldn't be located, but would call me back". It is now Wednesday morning - no call back. Maybe they put in any 10 phone digits and say they called!!!??? This is NOT my idea of how a business should run. 3 strikes is an out. Please look for another business than this one. read more

We have a contract with RJD for heating and A/C service. We have always had good service for these items. We recently had a leak in our house and decided to call RJD because they advertise plumbing services and, under our contract we don't have to pay for the trip charge, only for the actual repair. The guy who showed up, couldn't identify the source of the leak, even though we saw where it was dripping into the basement. There were water stains on the subfloor near the drain pipe from the upstairs bathroom sink. Despite not using the sink for several days, water was still leaking. Obviously, the source of the water must have been a supply line somewhere. . The technician/plumber was unable to find the leak and suggested we call a contractor. For that I had to pay $153. It turned out the leak was from the water line to the refrigerator. That was the only source of water anywhere near the leak and it should have been obvious to a trained plumber. Do yourself a favor if you have a plumbing issue - call a real plumbing company. read more

We've been using this service for 20 years, long before they became "Service Experts". We also have a service contract with them. We had our annual AC service done in June. Friday morning we had water all around our furnace. It looks like we have a moat. We called and were told they would send someone out. Friday night at 11 PM we received a call from the technician saying he was really busy and didn't know when he would be over. Saturday - no call. We called back on Sunday and left a message. They didn't even have the decency to return our call. We called again today (Monday). Again we were told they'd send someone out but no idea when. This is unbelievable! They could care less about their loyal customers. I can't imagine how we'd be treated if we didn't have a "service" contract. If I could select a zero rating I would. I called and made an appointment for a tech to come look at my AC. The person on the phone scheduled me for that day but didn't give me an arrival time. I waited all day. At around 6:00 I called again and the person on the phone checked my appointment and assured me that the tech would be there within the hour. I waited longer. By 8:30 at night, I was done and called to cancel. They told me the technician had stopped working at 3:00 that afternoon!!!!!! What? I waited literally all day. Ridiculous. My wife called Service Experts and we were told by the call center we'd get a call back within 2 hours. 5 hours later we still had no call back, so remembering my last failed experience with them, I've decided to no longer use them. I left a review on Roland J downs after trying for months to find a resolution with them directly. I signed up for a furnace and radiator installation through them during which they did not tell me the advantage program was a month to month lease and instead sold it as a payment plan for only the cost of the furnace. They also started my loan payments almost 5 months before they even completed installation. I reached out to the email after they responded to my review as well as spoke to their complaints department. I was assured that I would have a resolution. It is now almost a year later and they refuse to call me or resolve this issue but they told the loan servicer and complaints department that this was resolved. i called again two weeks ago and was told I would receive a call back within a few days. I have still not heard back and I do not want to be forced to take legal action. I would be happy to amend my reviews if a resolution is reached. read more

We purchase a few years ago a Lennox unit from that company . A few months ago, our unit went down, we were given a 10 days waiting period. Unless I would agreed to paid a surcharge of$200,to $250 .. I understand the game now.. .No busy if you give a extra, very busy if you want the regular price. (unit still under warranty!) We waited mostly until 4: PM no heat ! I contacted the office, a very unfriendly person responded to me(Sheila) they are busy.. tech will arrive around 3:AM. Told the employee we had a appointment made 10 days early.. We don't want 3:AM After 9:PM no need to show up. At 11: PM we received a call from the technician announcing his visit. We understood he was doing his job, the gentlemen told my husband, the office added us for night work ! We explained to him that we welcome him, early morning or at his convenience the following day. We contacted the office and Sheila told my husband,: " if your aren't happy, go some place else !!" We did follow her advice we contacted family Danz. They came during regular hours, found the issue. My A/C stopped working. Four different techs came with four different diagnoses. The first tech charged me $398.04 on 8/29 for a transformer. The unit worked for a day, I shut it off for several days and when I turned it back on, it wouldn't work. The second tech told me that he would order parts and those parts were going to be covered by RJD because the first tech did something wrong. Along with the 2nd tech, there was a sales person. Why would they send a sales person on a repair call?? The third tech that came to install the parts was at my house for 4+ hours and wouldn't leave my house until almost 10pm because he insisted on collecting for the parts that he installed. He told me that it was an electrical issue and I needed to have an electrician come. I did that and the electrician said there were no electrical issues. A 4th RJD tech came and said the condenser in the unit outside was shot and I needed a whole new A/C unit. Finally I was able to reach a supervisor who removed the charges for the parts that the 3rd tech installed that I was told would be covered and assured me that I would only get senior techs going forward, and I would get the best deal on a new unit. After all of this, I had another company come and there is absolutely nothing wrong with my A/C unit. I do not need a new one and it runs properly and efficiently (after he reconnected the wire that the RJD tech cut). Very unprofessional, dishonest, and non-responsive to get issues resolved. read more

Had them at my house today to do annual service on my AC unit. Technician, Bryan, seemed nice enough, but tried to sell me a part that they sold me last year for $311. Said I should be proactive and get one since it is just outside of the range of what it should be. I said it sounded like what they sold me last year and asked him to look it up and he said it was just something to keep an eye and that I probably don't need it now. I asked how long they last and he said about 3 years but you never know with these things. I looked it up and it gave a range of 10-20 which means I probably did not need one last year for my 6-year-old unit. Then I noticed his boss was sitting across the street in a car, probably to make sure he did the upsell and try and talk me into it, which he did not since I would be nuts to replace a part from a year ago. Again, Bryan was nice, but probably under pressure to upsell. Be very careful with them. read more

Roland J Down is now a previous service that I will NEVER use again. I set up appointment 2 months ago and alerted them that I was going to be using the $50 off coupon that THEY sent. The tech came hours early while I was still at work. My stepdaughter called me to ask of it was ok to allow them in to tune up the furnace - that I purchased from them 8 years earlier. I said it was ok to allow them in earlier than the appointed time. They did the work and left the bill with my stepdaughter. They never subtracted the $50 coupon. And so when I called they customer rep said they dont except coupons AFTER the service was rendered and that my stepdaughter should have given the coupon at time of service. But, they said they would take $25 off. No thanks!!! Probably just cost yourselves thousands of dollars in future services. After more than 2 decades of service, see ya!!!! read more

After several calls to them when they said they would arrive, by 6pm they still had not arrived and could not say when they would. Roland J Down installed my heating system and maintained it. I have been disappointed with the service and cannot recommend them. I have a yearly maintenance contract with them and on several occasions when they have come to do yearly service I am worse off. I feel the technicians are not familiar with my system and within several hours to one week after the check-up I am without heat and hot water. Even though the company installed my system, they do not carry the parts for it. On several occasions I have had to check into a hotel while waiting for the parts to be delivered and installed. On one occasion the part was defective and had to be re-ordered. The last part cost $1379 and my hotel bill was over $300. I was given a $250 discount on the part due to problems. I believe that the technician who comes to my house should be familiar with my system and not have to make calls back to the company for assistance. I also believe that since Roland J Down installed this system they should carry the parts for it. If you are looking for a heating/cooling company, check with people about their service before contracting with them. read more

Wow. If I treated my clients the way Roland J. Down's Sheila treated me today, I'd be out of business. No question. This lady tried to talk over me (yeah, good luck with that), yelled at me for being unhappy at having been lied to about the time they'd show up, got pissed when I said my piece despite her attempt to crowd me out by talking over me, could not provide an ETA for them to show up, and told me in a very snippy tone at the end that "You are next in line; when we're ready to come to you, we'll call you." Don't think I won't be on their phone every half hour between now and the time they show up after that one. I had an appointment with RJD to come do the annual inspection of my HVAC (which they quite competently installed last year) between 12 and 2 pm. At 12:30 I got a call telling me they're running "a little late, but would be here by 2." 2 pm came and went: no call from them giving me an update. 3 pm came and went: no call from them. I called them at 3:05 and asked them when I could expect them; no ETA. I've spent the entire day waiting for these guys to show up. Parking is at this hour at a premium in the Schenectady Stockade. "Well, they'll just have to carry their tools, then." Well, if they CAN'T FIND PARKING, they CAN'T CARRY THEIR TOOLS since there's no place for them to put the truck!!!! I do have a life, and I do have places I needed to be today. This interference with my schedule and this level of entitlement and abuse of my time are beyond belief. read more

Company Scam Alert: I purchased a Lennox A/C and furnace unit from Service Experts during the summer of 2016 for 8k (on sale price). In 2019, I spent over $1,000 to repair the unit for additional preventable repairs. Service Expert knowingly sold me defective products that they knew would result in additional repair costs down the line! I learned that a class action lawsuit was won against the manufacturer for the unit's evaporator coil only six months prior to my purchase. Paul (Sales Manager) from Service Experts assured me that they communicate regularly with the manufacturer and that Lennox informs them of any issues that may arise with their products. I am left to believe that Service Experts knew of the defect yet sold me the product any way. Be very cautious when purchasing products from Service Experts. Their service people are friendly and skilled but their sales team and General Manager are dishonest people. I especially do not suggest that women do business with this company. Rosie read more
