Even for a Tuesday morning, it started to get busy. They apparently have a following. I had heard about this place over 20 years but I was loyal to a place in Fremont that I no longer like. I've been coming here for about 6 or 7 years now. My first visit I was a little worried because they were "Asian" and sometime they are not as good with the type of hair cut I get. I watched a couple of people get cut and my worries went away. I've always gotten cut from Mickey. She does a great fade and always takes her time. She runs the shop with her sister who now works part time. I think they're one of the last true barber shops. They can use a straight edge razor, mustache and beard trimming and even full face and head shave. You just don't see much of that anywhere anymore. I don't know what it is like there with the Korean ladies that bought the place from Rolie, but when Rolie and Fred were there the place was great. Fred was like a surrogate grandfather to my son. My son went to Fred for all of his haircuts until Fred's passing, because Fred had a way with calming my son's fear of the noisy clippers and getting it done quick before my son became impatient. What's not to love about Rollie's?! My boyfriend needed a beard trim and Yelp pointed us in the right direction (again -- thanks yelp!). We only had to wait a few minutes before the BF was put in a chair and given the best beard trim he's ever had, according to him. They used a straight razor to clean up his neck line (which I love!) and the ladies were so friendly and funny. After a neck massage and a hot towel over his face and neck, they sent him on his way. I have been coming to this barber shop since I was 5 years old (1997.) It was a great shop then, and STILL a great barber shop now! Granted, Rollie sold the shop to new owners some years back, but they still keep his style alive! I remember always being afraid of the clippers, and Rollie, the original owner back then, would pull out a ugly, scary, mask and scare the sh** out of me even more haha! He was a good dude! I get my regular bald fade and a straight razor shave by Billy everytime. Dude is a perfect definition of what a "old school" barber is! I get a perfect cut everytime. No complaints. Also, like other reviews stated, if you don't like talking, this is not the barber shop for you! EVERYONE TALKS TO EVERYONE WHETHER YOU KNOW THEM OR NOT. Especially when it comes to sports. If you're looking for an old school barber and a bit of nostalgia with the atmosphere, Rollie's is the place to go. It's one of those shops where when you walk in, you just re-entered the epitome of a 1950s barber shop! I like to explore around with barbers, basically in search for one that i can clique well, listens to me, gives tips and advices, and barbering skill. I been to 4 so far in the fremont and UC area. And finally i must say, Rolies barber shop achieves and accomplish all the things i listed. It was my first time here, my friend recommended me to get my hair cut by Rolie. I got a pomp, high taper 0-1, hardline, and a line up on the sides. I must honestly say that he did a mother****ing great job. I cannot stress on his skill of barbering level. Lmao 15/10 rating i swear. Rolie is a nice dude, had a very great conversation with him. He can vibe with the young adults nowadays, and i think thats awesome. Not too many barbers in the east bay area is knowledgeable like Rolie. At the end of my haircut, for finishing touches he put a hot towel on my face, and then used an old school razor to smooth everything up. Thats a big plus forsure! And did i mention it was all for a total of $13!!! Im definitely coming back here forsure! I haven't tried the other ladies but I'm positive they are as skilled comparing to Rolie. I've been going to Mickey and Yun for my haircuts since I was about 2-3 years old, and I'm now turning 25! They've moved around to different barber shops over the years but they've been at Rolie's for many years now. (In fact, they took over ownership of the shop since I believe Rolie has retired.) I absolutely adore these women as they're so sweet and they always do such a great job on my haircuts. About a couple years ago, their nephew began working in the shop and he does an extremely great job as well! They love to talk while doing your cut and they always make sure to keep the conversation rolling. As a plus, they still use the classic switch blades which not many barber shops use nowadays, and they always take their time to make sure they get it just right. During weekdays the shop will have 2 barbers and usually over the weekends they have 3. Keep in mind they're closed every Sunday and Monday! I recommend going early in the mornings as they can get pretty busy. I usually go between 9-9:30 and I'm out before 10. If you've never been to Rolie's I wholeheartedly recommend giving them a try. I can't imagine myself seeing any other barber! read more

WORST EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE!!! PLEASE NEVER TAKE YOUR CHILDREN! I have a one year old that was born with a head full of hair. He has been getting a hair cut since he was 6 months old. He's usual barber was not available and I decided to try Rolie's because it was closer to home and he was looking pretty shaggy. WORST MISTAKE EVER! We walk in to the barbershop and there is hair everywhere!!! Three men got their hair cut before him and not once did she clean her station or sweep the floor. But the baby wasn't fazed by being there because he has been in a salon/barber shop before and has had good experiences. We sit in the chair and she proceeds to man handle him. She clutched his head and run the clippers so hard across his scalp that it was turning bright red. He immideately starts to cry because his barber has never been rough with him. I kept having to say gentle, but she ignored me and continued on. She then nips his ear and it starts to bleed. That also NEVER happened with his barber. She grabs his head and forcefully turns it. At this point I'm beyond pissed. So I remove her hand from his head and tell her to be gentle. She looks up irritated at me and waves her hand at the room full of people and tells me that she doesn't have time!!! She them tells me she is done with the hair cut when she is clearly not and leaves him covered in hair!!! I'm a suposed to feel bad that you don't have the time to be GENTLE with a BABY?!?! I tell her that if she didn't have time to cut his hair that she should have told me. Her only reasoning was that he was a baby and that they cry. I get it. Yes he is a baby and yes they cry, but YOU are the adult AND the professional. He has NEVER cried with his usual barber and she has never rushed, man handled or made him bleed. To top it all off it was a crappy hair cut! My poor baby had hair in his mouth and eyes! I hope he will not be traumatized and hope his barber won't have a hard time fixing the crappy $1 haircut that costs $10. read more

I've been going to this place since about '03. I get my haircut every week and its well worth having it done. It's very hard to find a good genuine reputable barber anywhere in the bay area. I used to be a regular at another shop in Daly City (where I used to live) but my regular barber got physically ill and wasn't able to work. I was recommended by a friend to go here. We both get classic traditional hair cuts. He said Rollie was very good. But when I got there Rollie was busy and instead I got the aunt. She's very sweet older woman. I have to admit I was a little nervous. Thankfully she didn't ruin my hair and did basically what I asked for.
