My mother is truly upset about the haircut she just received at Hair Palace in Union City. The stylist was likely a newcomer who didn't know how to execute a layered cut. The shop owner simply let the stylist proceed without glancing over even once until the haircut was completely finished. Not only was the result unflattering, but the price was also quite steep; my mother--who has very fine hair--paid $100 for a perm and a cut, whereas other salons typically charge around $80. I have been coming to Hair Palace for over 2 decades. Let's just say I wasn't even old enough to drive yet when I was first introduced to this place. It was conveniently located in my 'hood so naturally it seemed the best place to go and I have been loyal ever since. Ok, so, NONE of the stylist will color my hair red no matter how much I beg; but I guess I have to trust their expertise. I'd happily pay to satisfy my curiosity even if red hair may be unflattering for my skin tone. Whenever I ask if they can dye my hair red I'm defiantly greeted with "Noooo ... not good for your face!" Again, I must trust that they know what they're doing and that they're saving me from a bad decision. They've gotten a bit expensive since the pandemic but all salons (even nail salons) have raised their prices. 'Damn you, inflation!' Never the less I still come here. I've taken my kids here a few times. Stylist are nice and courteous. Some are more experienced then other stylist. I love the fact that I can walk in get 4 kids haircuts in an hour. That's if I go on a weekday non busy hours. kids haircuts need to be at a moderate cost but quality of haircut is important. I do stand and watch and make sure haircuts are done to my liking. Ive found in past stylist do get carried away when cutting hair. The love to use the shredding scissors a lot. I personally don't like that look of hair that's been shredded. Reason for the low rating is: Cleanliness of the over all salon is awful. The salon is due for a remodel. The chairs are run down and seating area is pretty grungy. This salon has been here for years but it's never been remodeled or changed. Yes they are busy and get lot of traffic. But I compared the price to other salon and price is the same yet those salons are cleaner. I would love to go back and change my rating upon seeing the salon getting a facelift and getting cleaned up. Ive been going to this place ever since I was little to get a haircut and my eyebrows waxed. Ive never had an issue with their service until a new lady waxed my eyebrows. Today when I went, not only did she wax my eyebrows off, she also waxed my skin off. I've been going here for my cut for about 2 years now, I usually go with the young looking guy ( he's the only guy that has hair). The haircuts are not super amazing but they manage to give me a nice clean cut every time and the wait is never more than 5 minutes if any wait at all. I recommend picking one person to cut your hair and sticking to them so you get a consistent haircut all the time. Update!!!! OK I'm upgrading this place to a 5 star hair cut place :) and the reason why has a name.... his name is Jon. Now I have to use his name cause the owner decided to hire a few more young peeps that have hair lol :). The 5 star rating is really just for Jon... overall this place as a whole still deserves 3 stars which I think is good overall for the services they provide. However Jon takes this place to the top, he never rushes a haircut for more business, instead he takes his time and does all cuts well in order to gain repeat business. Just got a haircut from a very nice lady, I think her name was Lucy? My BF and I actually came here today instead of hair express due to the amount of people at hair express. We were seated almost immediately and the staff were very friendly. My Bf was in a bad need of a haircut and it came out great! (Standard short on the sides and longer up top.) I was a bit more nervous about my haircut since I don't get my hair cut often, especially not by other people. She did an absolutely wonderful job with my hair. I requested only about 1-2 inches off the ends and she cut about 2 inches off due to damage from Colour processing. She feathered the front to frame my face and my bangs were trimmed and thinned to fall a little more naturally. Overall, I had a great experience. We were in and out within 20 min with friendly staff. I just felt really bad that we didn't have enough cash for tip so we were only able to tip around 10% even though the experience was much MUCH better than anticipated. :( *update: still 5/5 stars for me! They let us start our haircuts around closing time and they still took their time to make our hair look amazing. read more

We wanted a girls day out today. You know, get all pampered and what not. HORRIBLE idea thinking we'd get that here. Here's why: 1. The place is just not relaxing to be in. At first glance it was descent, but after sitting in that place for 2 hrs (no joke) you start to notice how filthy it is. Towels they used on you had stains, the chairs were like covered with hair coloring (I hope thats what it was), the steamer smelled...ugh. -_- 2. THEY TOOK FOREVER!! We wanted to get our hair hot-oiled. It took wayy too long to do this mainly because they were trying to fit all the customers in and by doing so, they forget that your even there. 3. If you've ever gotten your hair hot-oiled the right way, it feels AWESOME. Its as if someone's washing your hair and massaging it at the same time. Not here. The lady was seriously scratching the formula in my scalp. OUCH! WTF?! Then the steamer was broken or something because I had to hold it up with my head (its supposed to surround your head not push up against it). 4. My sister almost cried after seeing the job they did waxing her eyebrows. -_- 5. My mom's skin started to swell up after waxing and they even cut/tore her lip a little so they had to put vasoline. After two hours I was still sitting there (machine done steaming and all) as they all just walk by not noticing. Yelling in my head, "CAN SOMEONE JUST WASH MY HAIR NOW SO I CAN GO?!" People who worked in the shop are able to speak Vietnamese or even Cantonese. Since I'm a lazy guy on traveling to just get my haircut. I just always hit up this place since I live so close. I've been getting haircuts at Hair Palace for as long as I can remember. If you want fast service, come here! The workers greet you right when you walk in, I have never had to wait more than 5 minutes for a seat, and the workers don't prolong your visit via awkward conversation. Hair Palace is located in the same plaza as Seafood City and Bambu so there are plenty of parking spots. The place itself is pretty clean. They are constantly sweeping hair on the floor and etc BUUUUUUT I am docking stars off because I'm not quite sure how clean their tools are. They have two bins per station -- one is labeled "soiled" and the other is labeled "clean." I've seen it happen way too many times where the worker takes their hair cutting tools from the "soiled" bin to use on their current client. They may be clean, they may not be... who knows? The workers are very nice and skilled. They usually pair a male worker with a male client and female worker with a female client. They're not doing this to be sexist. They do this because their female workers usually know how their female clients want their hair done and vise versa. I haven't had any problems with my haircuts thus far. As long as you tell them what you want, they will execute to the best of their ability! read more

Decent salon in union city. The prices are cheap and my stylist was entertaining. She kept on trying to convince me to have a baby. She wasn't very convincing because was constantly complaining about how much kids suck the energy out of their parents. I've gone here a couple a times..But I still wanted to explore my other options on Asian owned beauty parlors. I went for a deep angled a line bob, and brought pictures. The hairstylist that helped me achieve this look was the young guy. (Hmmm..Which his named slipped out of my mind.) I just told him once and he starting trimming away, referencing off of the pictures I had brought. We didn't speak much to each other, only minor questions about length, and how to blow dry.
