This place has a pretty good flow of customers so the fish rotation must be pretty up to par. Ordered the Uni Shooters, Meguan, Atlanta, and the Spicy Tuna Roll! The Uni Shooters were super delicious and didn't have any fishy/oceany taste from the Uni. The Ponzu and Yuzu sauce combo was also soooo yummy! Gulped down the Uni with no problem. The Meguan roll was very fresh and light! The mango slices were delicious and sweet and really complimented the fish! The rice was also cooked perfectly, gave a great texture! The Atlanta was also just as delicious! The yellow Tobiko on top seemed to have some sort of citrus juice coated on top so that made each bite very refreshing! This is my favorite sushi place in Chicago. If you live in Lakeview (or even if you don't) please consider making this one of your staples! First off, its BYOB - which yes, a lot of sushi spots in Chi are BYOB - but none of them have excellent quality sushi like Rollapalooza. Their menu is very extensive and I always catch myself in a crisis while choosing what to get. They're super speedy and black rice is also available if you want a more nutritious use of your carbs. They're sashimi is amazing, but I also love the German, Rainbow, Summer, and Crazy Philly rolls. (Basically you can't go wrong with anything on the menu.) Definitely make a reservation as it is small and at the very least call ahead and they might be able to make room for you. One of my favorite things about Chicago is the BYO policy when it comes to alcohol. I take full advantage of it, and it usually helps determine where I dine out when I'm with friends. The pink lady (I think). We ordered that along with three other various rolls. Everything we tried was delicious. Some of the rolls had black rice instead of the regular white, and it gave it a great flavor. Went here for dinner tonight as our friend lives nearby and we could walk there. They have a good/diverse menu and are BYOB with no corkage fee! The service was fairly quick and it was easy to get a table. The pieces were fair. Two of us in the party are vegetarian and it was great that they have a good vegetarian section to accommodate. The summer roll and pink flower roll were fresh and tasty, but not very big on the fish portions at all. I finally got to try a sushi spot I'd bookmarked many years ago! Thankfully, it lived up to my expectations...and then some. I ordered some sushi for delivery, which did not compromise the quality at all. Special mention goes out to the Tequila roll, with two types of tuna (and no actual tequila). I love spicy anything, so the jalapeno was a great addition. There was minimal rice, letting the jalapeno, tuna, cilantro, and avocado blend seamlessly. For dinner we started with the shumai, jumbo shrimp dumplings. Perfect dumpling consistency and the shrimp was very good. For our 'main course' we shared several different rolls, although it was pretty difficult to decide because the list was so big! There were several vegetarian options too! Highly recommend ordering the Spicy Tataki which is served on FIRE. Super cool and the flavor was out of this world. It was crunchy and a bit spicy. We also had the Rollapalooza roll which was incredibly fresh and loaded with fish. I was a bit disappointed by the Acapulco roll and felt like it missed the spicy notes and was loaded too much with cilantro but it was still an okay roll. If you're a gaijin who expects a vat of rice, that's your own problem - go find a Todai. I expected Rollapalooza to have issues handling the crazy crowd of Market Days, but they did well...and they offered us free edamame and complimentary super white tuna nigiri to all 5 of us as a final piece, which was flattering and impressive. If you don't eat a ton/don't have money to burn, Set A 1, 2 or 3 will put you away just fine for $6. it did for my friend. From what I've heard, this place has only been open for a month or two, so take advantage while they're still new/cheap/fresh. I'm a HUGE fan right now.
