I grabbed the ketchup bottle and my hand became covered in someone else's slimmy food. When my biscuits and gravy came, they were cold, the gravy was more like a glue paste, the biscuits were hard. We really enjoyed this little restaurant. We took a weekend trip for for our anniversary and stayed at the Point Arena Lighthouse. Just a short drive down the road, about 2 mi. is the Rollerville Cafe. We had two meals at Rollerville Cafe. Rollerville Cafe is a family run restaurant and the staff are very friendly. On our first trip we were welcomed with a cheerful greeting and seated for lunch. I had Fish and Chips and my gal had a Reubin corned beef sandwich. We shared one another's plates. The Reubin was fantastic. It's corned beef was uniquely spiced and it had a zing to it.it was cooked perfectly, dressed with a unique sauce, and we both loved it. The fish 'n Chips was also excellent. The fish was perfectly cooked, the batter was crisp, and the fries were cooked just right. They served it with a uniquely flavored "coleslaw" that we thoroughly enjoyed. The food arrived at our table piping hot. We were so impressed we went back the next morning and had breakfast. I had the Corned Beef Hash and Eggs my gal had a Spinach, Mushroom, Onion and Bacon omelette, with a cheese on top. I think the corned beef was ground too fine and very unfortunately, it caused it to taste far less palatable that the corned beef on the sandwich the day before. I was disappointed. It was 'okay'. The eggs were cooked to perfection and the toast was good too. The Omelette was very good with the vegetables sauteed and folded into the center. It was light and fluffy. Overall the breakfast was good with one disappointment. We enjoyed the Rollerville Cafe. We'll revisit next time we are in the area. We recommend it as a place that has inventive and unique flavor signatures, created by people who are very interested in culinary exploration, They have a friendly staff, and if you are traveling nearby, we suggest you stop in and give it a try. read more

It street of struck me as a "hole in the wall" when I first walked in, but the staff was very friendly, and the food was awesome! I've been here for breakfast only- locals come here for mainly the service. The food is your average diner fare. This last time I had their biscuits and gravy- biscuits are cakey and fluffy...gravy is very flavorful. Just sits in your belly like a ton of bricks.....but still very tasty. Kid1 loved his pork chop breakfast...kid2 said her french toast was very good (big servings!). Lover likes chicken fried steak at Meza Grill better but still orders it from here because the servings are so big. Locals say this city is considered Manchester...but address is in Point Arena. There are bungalos here for passer-bys.....close trip to the lighthouse. All in all, a good place to eat. Based on the service and serving sizes alone! We used one of our timeshare weeks at the Point Arena Lighthouse Point cottages and the Rollerville Cafe is right there. This place is a surprising treasure location and is an unexpected culinary adventure in a remote location. The cafe is walking distance from our cabin and it was wonderful. We had the steak and my wife had the fish tacos. Both excellent dishes.. I think the term Cafe can be changed to Bistro in the case of this place. If you are in the area, you cannot miss this place. Plus its the closest cafe to Hawaii on the coast! read more

Headed in here with my girl on a stormy, windy Monday noon in mid-Feb. Had clam chowdah, fish n chips, and the Captain's platter. Chowdah very tasty with notable bacon contribution, clams seemed to be fresh. Mains: Both were very good, the fish freshly battered and fried. Calamari on the Captain's was very tender and tasty. They offer malt vinegar in addition to the usual tartar sauce and shrimp-cocktail-like sauce. Nice to have the choice! Interesting take on coleslaw - Asian flavors thanks to toasted sesame oil and mirin or rice vinegar plus black sesame seeds. Not bad at all! Service is friendly and fairly attentive. If you want a good burger and/or nicely battered/fried seafood, a good choice in the Pt Arena area. read more

The time from when we placed our order to when the food arrived was slow and the meals are on the pricey side, but neither would deter us from coming back on our next trip. The staff was friendly, food portions are very good and what we are was really tasty. If you're here and have time, stop at the nearby lighthouse. First impression not so good. No ice cream when we wanted a shake. Got a burger a couple nights after that was completely raw. Ordered a shake and the cup was small and filled 3/4 way full and a lot of whipped cream. It's $6.50! When I called her in it she became a not nice person and my daughter saw her give me a nasty look. Not a lot of restaurants around so we went back. I had the most amazing Reuben sandwich. Stayed at the resort for the weekend. The breakfast was really good. Best part was the biscuit & gravy, it was delicious. Pretty sure it was hamburger gravy, but it had a rich full flavor. Dinner was frickles, fried pickle, they were OK, if you like fried breading. The dipping sauces were good. Had prime rib, it was overlooked, but a great au jus made up for that. Stayed at the Point Arena Lighthouse lodge for three nights, and ate here the morning we left. I wish we would have tried it out, earlier. We were there for breakfast at 11 a.m., and the waitress was extremely friendly, efficient, and professional, all while handling multiple tables. We never had to wait for anything or chase her down. She was completely on top of it. For breakfast, we both had one of the specials, which was the chipmunk omelette. Basically, it was the monkey omelette with chicken apple sausage added, and it was DELICIOUS, not to mention it was large enough to feed at least two people, maybe three. The hash browns that came with it were even tastier and hands down the best I've ever had, and I'm fairly picky about my hash browns. Will certainly be back here on the next trip up Pacific Coast Highway. read more

A step back in time. A small wallpapered restaurant/cafe stating "last cafe till Hawaii" or "first cafe from Hawaii." On our way back from the Point Arena lighthouse, we stopped in at the menu changeover point from Breakfast to Lunch. We watched 2 very hard working employees take orders, serve and check into each and every table (inside and outside) to make sure that everyone in the busy dining room needs were met. As busy as the staff was - they were so pleasant and courteous. We were given the choice of ordering from either the Breakfast or Lunch menu. We chose Lunch and ordered sandwiches that came with fries. The BLT and Grilled Cheese with Bacon each had a half pound of Bacon on them - no skimping here. We were so happy with our choice. When in the area - stop in - I don't think you will be disappointed. read more

Don't go if you are in a hurry and looking for a cheery attentive wait staff...when we first got there, they were busy and we walked in and stood there...and stood there...and stood there. Waitress walked by a couple times but never made eye contact and never said a word. Finally she barked out that we could sit at the available table. Another wait staff brought us menus about 5 minutes later. Took a bit to get our order in and then waited about 45 minutes for our food to come out. While we were sitting probably 3 groups came in and eventually left as no one would acknowledge they were there. We were very happy when the food came and everything was very good. The side salad had crisp, fresh veggies and my Reuben was huge and delicious. It's sometimes rare to find a small restaurant with such good ingredients and unique menu items. The Rollerville Cafe looks risky, like you might get something cool, but you also might get grossed out. Even though I've only been there this once, I think you'll get something cool. My husband and I were visiting Mendocino County this weekend and went to the Pt. Arena area for lots of walking on the coast. Pt. Arena is a very small town and on a Sunday, not much seemed to be open or going on. We had driven past the Rollerville Cafe in search of something in town, but finding nothing appealing, we circled back. And I'm sure glad we did. Now, I'm not a a professional cook or a food critic, but I love a good burger and know one when I get one. Living in the land of foodies in Berkeley, one would assume that having a really good burger would be an every day feat--not so, unless you have burgers at my house. There are many places there that tout excellent burgers, but they do not actually have them. Feel free to check this out for yourself. Here at the Rollerville Cafe, however, they serve the best burger this side of north Oakland, and perhaps even farther south, one that is the closest to the burgers served at my house. The special burger on the menu is the Nelly burger---hamburger, apples, rosemary, garlic, onions. Big yum. I was debating whether to play it safe with a veggie burger or be daring with the Nelly burger when I asked the woman waiting on us for her opinion. Low and behold, it was Nelly herself, the inventor of the Nelly burger! Thank you, Nelly, for being there. Not only was it very tasty, it was huge, and moist, even though I asked for it "medium", something I would not do if I knew the restaurant--I am a medium rare burger eater. And the fries that came with it were the combo of freshly fried crunchy, fatty, starchy goodness one wishes for in fries. My husband got the fish and chips, with no chips but an extra large helping of the slaw. The fish was also very freshly fried, big chunks of cod (or whatever passes as cod these days). The slaw was an Asian-style sweet slaw with sesame oil. All yum. The ambience is decidedly low-key, but clean and friendly. I recommend that you walk all over the Mendocino coast, then sidle up to the Rollerville for a big plateful of goodness. Warning, you'll need another walk afterward. read more

We were staying at the resort next to the Rollerville cafe and we stopped in for ice cream but they only have vanilla ice cream, pie, and milkshakes for desert. I got a Chai milkshake, which was delicious. My son got the peach pie a la mode, which was actually home made and pretty good, the crust was flaky but a peach pie made out of season is never as good as one made when the fruit is fresh, but that's life. My younger son got a chocolate milkshake, which was also very good, hand spun, with real ice cream (none of that soft serve crap). read more
