You ever just stop someplace because you need to waste time? We were waiting to check into our VRBO rental when we walked into the Cove Azul. We sat at the bar and ordered a drink. The bartender, Scott, engaged us in the usual small talk. But we quickly observed that he was genuinely interested in us as human beings! We stayed much longer than we intended and had a bite to eat. The food we had was delicious and competitively priced. We came back the next day for the great food and the wonderful staff! We had the very best fish and chips we've ever experienced while we watched whales migrate north through the scenic windows overlooking the Pacific Ocean! Once again, we felt like we were at home and were treated like family. This is truly an amazing place where the staff is warm and inviting and the food is made with passion! We got bread but no salad and had to wait awhile for our check) - Bad food, I ordered fish and chips thinking that it would be a seafood staple but there was such much batter that the fish was undercooked inside. The fries didn't have salt and looked kind of gross - Weird atmosphere, you can see the beach view from inside if you look over the heads of all the older locals. There was a dead fly in the corner of the window I was seated at. Overall not worth the money if you already spent a considerable amount of money just to be out in Gualala, like we did. read more

What a cool place to stop and have a meal and something to wash it down! Their fish and chips is delicious! They have REAL French fries too. Just wish there were more than a handful. Nice light batter, not too greasy and the fries were just sooooo darn good. Service was spot on too! They also have great outdoor seating with views of the ocean. You can't beat it! I came to anchor bay to camp with my dog. I was not prepared for the rain for the next 2 hours, so i decided to find a bar and grill. To my pleasant surprise Cove Azul Bar and Grill was only 4 miles from here. Came here with Leo, my dog, and I love the vibes. Super chill and friendly. Has a beautiful view. I asked a local lady for a recommendation. She said to check out Cove. OMG, we had one of the best seafood LUNCH meals. The prices are very affordable compared to the Bay Area. It's a small, cute restaurant located on the second floor with views galore. We decided to dine outside to enjoy the fresh air. Inside was a bit on the warm side. Our server was Sean. Service a little slow, food decent. $169 total for 6 adult and 3 kids' entrees, plus one beer. * Fish tacos - 3 stars. Just one tortilla and lots of very saucy toppings made these tacos not structurally sound and fall apart very easily. * Fish n Chips - 3.5 stars. Good, tender fresh cod, light batter. Fries slightly on the stale side. * Kids' Penne - 3 stars. Fine, kids ate it up. Very overcooked & soft, not that the kids care. After a horrible experience at a nearby restaurant, Cove Azul was our last resort and our saving grace. This bar & grill has the best hospitality, food, decor, and the portions are HUGE! I did not expect that at all. The pastas and scallops we had were insanely delish. Hubby and I stopped here for lunch on our recent trip to the coast. We were seating promptly next to a window with a view of the water. Our waiter greeted us and asked about drinks, we both ordered a glass of wine (we are on vacation after all!). I ordered shrimp tacos and a cup of clam chowder. My tortilla did fall apart on both- and flour totrtilla would have handled the salsa better I think. Hubby's fish was crisp and tasty, the fries were a little limp and needed some salt. Now the con. First time here, and came because my friend recommended it! We sat outside because we had our dogs, and the view is beautiful! It overlooks the water, and you get to breathe in the fresh air. Service was great, and our waiter got a bowl of water for our dogs. We had fried calamari, fish and chips, and the burger with clam chowder. I loved how the calamari were big strips, so you get a lot of the meat. The batter was super crispy and tasty. The same batter is used for the fish and chips, and it was delicious! Again, it was crispy and had just the right amount of salt. The fish itself was soft and melted in my mouth. My hubby doesn't like fish, but he said this was good because he didn't get that fishy taste. Definitely better than the fish and chips I got in bodega bay. Be ready for grease though! My order, the Calamari steak entree, came in a nice lemon garlic sauce with a sautéed side of veggies and choice of mashed potato or rice. All entrees came with a starter of soup or salad included. The cup of clam chowder chosen as the starter by 3 of us was thoroughly enjoyed. The Fish and chips entree and burger/fries plate was pronounced delicious by the respective diners. The view is outstanding (Bonus: whale viewing deck above the restaurant). The food was just okay but wildly expensive, the bathrooms are in disrepair, and the service was not good. This is the only restaurant open on days (Monday and Tuesday) when most others are closed, so we went here twice during our week in Gualala. The first time was not great, but we gave it a second chance and the second time was not great. We tried most restaurants in town and found this one to be the most overpriced and the least welcoming. We tried four seafood dishes and all were just okay. The best of the four was the blackened red snapper. It's a casual dining experience in a beautiful location which works for us. However, the service was just not good. We had the same server twice and she was not friendly and inattentive. We don't require much, but maybe we needed another drink or more water. We still tipped well both times as servers don't get a living wage regardless of the customer's experience. This is true in the Midwest where I'm from - but maybe different in CA. **There were two other servers I noticed who seemed much friendlier and welcoming. The bathroom toilet paper was a roll on the back of the seat and the paper towel holder was held together with duct tape. For a restaurant charging $26/plate, they could make more of an effort to improve the environment. read more

Their kitchen is closed between 2pm-5pm, so we waited 30 min before we could order. Got the Caesar salad with salmon, seafood platter and dungeness crab sandwich with fries. The grilled salmon made the Caesar salad! The seafood platter was OK, but a little greasy and heavy on the breading for me. The dungeness crab sandwich came on a brioche bun, and was rich and satisfying. Portions are large enough to share, my partner and I split 2 entrees and and appetizer and definitely had leftovers. Great for the gorgeous view, accessible menu options for picky eaters (or those looking for seafood), a little pricey for the quality but the deliver on quantity. read more
