If you like 1990's bad overpriced 'tower food' in an old cupola building with bad service, eat here!

The bartender, Scott, engaged us in the usual small talk. But we quickly observed that he was genuinely interested in us as human beings! We stayed much longer than we intended and had a bite to eat. The food we had was delicious and competitively priced. We came back the next day for the great food and the wonderful staff! We had the very best fish and chips we've ever experienced while we watched whales migrate north through the scenic windows overlooking the Pacific Ocean! Once again, we felt like we were at home and were treated like family. This is truly an amazing place where the staff is warm and inviting and the food is made with passion! Shout-out to Scott and Heather! You made our stay in Gualala extra special and we are looking forward to visiting again soon!

Nice light batter, not too greasy and the fries were just sooooo darn good. Service was spot on too! They also have great outdoor seating with views of the ocean. You can't beat it! Its on the second floor so you get a really good vantage point. Worth a stop in just for a beer and view alone. The food is just a big bonus!

The market itself has…read morepretty much the same menu, but all the seating is outdoors under some tents and you order at the register where they also sell fresh seafood by the pound. Overall, I was pretty impressed and satisfied by the quality of the food I got. Pricing isn't cheap, but in line with expectations for seafood in an area with a lot of visitors, though portion sizes do veer on the smaller side. Kimchi Crab Cakes (2.75/5): I wanted to like these more than I did, but unfortunately I just thought the kimchi flavor was pretty lackluster and also tamped down the sweetness of the crab. The crab cakes are mostly crab, which is nice, but I'd skip this one. Grilled Oysters w/ Lemon Garlic Butter (4/5): Fresh oysters grilled to order, what's not to be happy about. The garlic was fresh and the oysters weren't fishy; all around solid option. Clam Chowder (4/5): A nice clam chowder. Nothing crazy and good amount of clams. Exactly what you'd expect. Crab Roll (4.25/5): Definitely my favorite item we tried! Super generous with the amount of crab with a bit of creamy mayo and slices of fresh tomato. The bread looks really pale, but it was actually a satisfying fresh, soft roll.

There were three of us and we ordered the fresh crab rolls. We couldn't stop saying "OMG" because they were that good. The bread was buttery and toasted to perfection and they were incredibly generous with the crab. The clam chowder was also amazing - not too thick, super flavorful, and filled with the perfect amount of seafood. We shared 6 bbq oysters (3 lemon garlic and 3 Calabrian chili), and they were so good. To finish - we ordered the spicy prawns with garlic bread, which were delicious as well, though we were already so full by then. We ordered our food first and then grabbed a table outside which made for a super relaxed vibe. I would 100% come back whenever I'm in the area and will definitely be telling all my friends about it. I was so impressed!!

Nonetheless, we had an overall great experience. First night, I'd give our meal a 3/5. We had the Short Rib, Salmon Wings, Brussel sprouts, cheesecake, apple tart, and a cappuccino. The short rib was quite dry and tough but the garnish was great. My husband ordered the Mary's chicken with mole and that was FANTASTIC. The sauce was a proper mole poblano sauce. The salmon wings left much to be desired, I was intrigued at the concept, but not impressed. The char bordered on burnt and had quite a bit of bones. We both enjoyed our desserts. Our second meal was off the lunch menu: The fish and chips were pretty great! Well seasoned and the house made tartas sauce was nice. 4/5 The last thing we had were the burgers off the bar menu. This may have been the best thing we ate here! It was cooked to the perfect temp and the spicy aoli had a solid kick! 5/5 The ambience was cozy and the ocean views were STUNNING. The service was friendly and professional. Overall, I do hope I get the chance to come back to Coast Kitchen. We did enjoy our time!

That's what my boyfriend and I ordered, and were satisfied (not to mention fueled for our hike that afternoon). I agree with other reviews that say it's pricey for what you get, but you'll still have a satisfying meal. The crab sandwich is real fresh, I kinda wish they toasted the bread, but would still recommend it. It came with a few slices of carrot that seemed random IMO, but still ate it. Also, you can't go wrong with the fish and chips! Service was straight-forward - you order and pay at the counter, then take your number to seat where your food is delivered. Most people were sitting outside on the benches, which is where you wanna be, especially on a sunny day with a view of the water. But there are also chairs and tables inside. Parking can be tight around here. The lot outside the restaurant is very small, and the street/back parking signs can be confusing. (There were cars parking in zones clearly marked with "No Parking" signs.)
