This place is amazing. I always look at food truck BBQ places and think...gross! This was not the case with Rollin Smoke. I'm a BBQ cook off enthusiast and I have been for the past 6 years. Everyone knows that a good Texas bbq place knows what they're doing with brisket but I usually try to judge off of the pulled pork. Tonight I got the Player's Pie and the pulled pork sandwich. Both of them blew me away so much so that I boldly cut the line and asked the guy at the counter for a bite of their fatty brisket. The brisket was mouth watering goodness with a beautiful smoke ring. The smoked mac n cheese was a force to be reckoned with but their potato salad was a pretty basic mustard PS (still good though). Overall this is a SOLID food truck on the east side and their meats warmed my little BBQ eating heart. Go here and you will not be disappointed. Cool spot near plenty of nightlife. Tender and flavorful brisket and pulled pork bbq. I had the pulled pork taco topped with very bbq sauce, pickles and onions. Also had the brisket fritos pie. Each were savory and good. I would recommend. read more

Extremely disappointing, given the 4.5 star reviews on here, I was expecting better. First off, the brisket sandwich was at least 50 to 60 percent fat, as was the taco. The sausage wrap was alright, fairly good but a bit too spicy. The Mac and cheese is just microwaved noodles with melted cheese on it, something I can make at home for far less than 4 bucks. Also, the generator outside makes for a very unwelcoming outdoor eating experience. Would not return. read more

Recently took a trip to Texas to visit my folks. Ate BBQ in San Antonio, Lockhart, and Austin. My wife and I were having a night out in Austin and stopped by the Rollin Smoke trailer. We talked Q' for a minute with the fellas working and they were kind enough to give us a sample of brisket. I gotta say ... it was the best damn brisket I had in Texas. Former AUSTIN resident back in town for a weekend...found this place on yelp and glad people are giving it solid reviews. Maia helped us choose the pulled pork tacos - just incredible. They don't overdress them, letting their quality meet stand out. Flavor was delicious with a medium smoke and salt, perfect for a taco or sandwich (which is mainly what they're hawking). No line for delicious freaking bbq! Hell yes! I was worried heading into Austin that the bbq hype would be unwarranted. Boy was I glad that I was wrong. Stopped at Rollin Smoke randomly while walking through East Austin after smelling the aromas from the drum smoker out back. Ordered 1/4lb brisket and 1/4lb pork belly burnt ends. Note: when ordering the brisket you can ask specifically for meat from the lean or fatty side or a bit of both. The pork belly was fall-apart soft with beautifully rendered sticky collagen and fat and a delicious crust. The brisket had a great bark and wasn't nauseatingly over-smoked as I've experienced at other bbq establishments. The meat was so beautifully tender it felt dirty eating it. They also provided two sauces with the meats, one of which was deliciously vinegary. I wish I could have gone back and ordered another pound of each meat but the day had only just begun. Will I be back when I'm in Austin. Hell yes! read more

I had the brisket sandwich. It was divine. The perfect combination of fat and meat. Sauce was excellent as was the bun. It was just so good. Husband had the Playboy. Decided to try this place out since it had 4.9 stars. Huge disappointment. When we arrived, the gentleman who served us, seemed a little annoyed to help us. Maybe because we disturbed his alone time since he was fooling around with a stick as if he was a Jedi, and he had to work? I ordered the brisket sandwich, my partner also ordered the brisket sandwich, and a sausage wrap, and the "damn good" banana pudding. Got home, hoping the food would make up for the poor customer service we received. Unfortunately my sandwich was filled with nothing but brisket fat - there was no meat. This brought to my attention that not only did I receive poor service, the gentleman who served me, cared little about my overall experience by giving me a crap sandwich. My dog appreciated the sandwich of meat fat. The pudding was decent...I will not be returning to the Rolling Smoke. Scotty's BBQ on Cesar Chavez is way better and they always greet you with a smile. read more

So we got into Austin Friday nite around 9:00 pm, checked into the hotel got settled in and went down stairs to wait on the shuttle to go to a restaurant,turns out we weren't the only people waiting on the shuttle and the wait time was ridiculous lol,I follow rolling smoke bbq on instagram and have been wanting to try it,so I asked them in their comments what the parking situation was like and they were very quick to respond so I was like what the hell let's just drive over there instead of waiting on the shuttle,we get there around 11:30pm and park in the lot behind them,walk up to the counter and the guys running it were very cool,I ordered 3 brisket sandwiches and 1 pulled pork sandwich a order of smoked Mac and cheese and spicy slaw, 2 banana puddings and 4 Coke's I paid $50,now that might sound kinda steep to some people but if your familiar and have an appreciation for bbq you know that good bbq isn't always cheap and cheap bbq isn't always good anywho the brisket was super flavorful nice and beefy taste with a great Smokey flavor same thing with the pulled pork great Smokey flavor with a very subtle sweetness of pork that paired very well with the bbq sauce that's drizzled on the sandwiches,the Mac n cheese was a hit with my kiddos and the slaw was nice and creamy with a hint of spice to keep you on your toes,the banana pudding I've got to be honest I wasn't blown away by it,now I'm not saying it was terrible or anything it was just meh but again let me reiterate it was not bad,would I order it again probably not,once is enough,anyways I was just there for the bbq not the dessert lol overall I would definitely go back! I found myself on the East Side again last night. Once I realized where I was, I made it a point to make my way over to the Rollin' Smoke! There was quite a line when I walked up, but the wait wasn't long at all and well worth it. I ordered the smoke mac and cheese, some smoked turkey breast and a silky sandwich. Everything came out quickly and just as ordered. The guy working the window took the time to step outside and check on both tables full of guests. Excellent customer service and part of the reason I will always return when on the East Side. The man behind the counter assembled my sandwich in no rush, while hip-hop blared inside the trailer. The trailer is not much to look at (and those are normally the best ones) I honestly figured I was in for a pretty average BBQ sandwich. I got my go-to, brisket sandwich. Definitely among the best I've had. Just the right texture, just enough fat to make it super moist, but not greasy. Layers of flavors, with a strong taste of smoke. I'm disappointed by the lack of smoke flavor in some BBQ around town, and this is certainly not one of them. The depth of the smoke flavor without being overbearing - absolutely delicious. I wasn't quite sure what the whole Texas BBQ craze was all about until my boyfriend and I randomly stumbled onto this truck one night after being told that VIA 313 had an hour and a half wait time for food. I got the Silky based on the owner's recommendation and my boyfriend got the tacos, and I can easily say we've never devoured a meal faster in our lives. Came here on the Austin Passbook. Only got a chance to try "The Silky", but my oh my it was amazing! The sandwich is aptly named as the pulled pork is so tender, rich, and juicy; the coleslaw has the perfect amount of acidity blending so well with the pork; and the bread is soft and sweet especially when mixed with their sauce.
