For local community, is pretty good place to buy toys and pimps. Let's just say needs to be more bigger and let's sales stuff.

Living in New Orleans for a few years, I can tell you that The Big Easy does not take their tiki bar game lightly and I've had my fair share of adventures. Although the exterior of the building might be misleading, you can expect a world of Polynesian delight and flavors that will leave your taste buds tingling. A dimly lit environment carefully decorated to theme, shows the intentionality behind The Tiki Room El Paso. I had been to their original location by the courthouse and this is a true 2.0 rebirth of the establishment. Now my fave thing to do at any spot is to ideally sit at the bar to get the full experience. What really stood out to me was the level of commercial kitchen equipment that ensured the kitchen smells and smoke didn't take over the place. It's all in the details. The staff here is super fun and engaging which made it all the better. My friend and I were served by Adam and their service with the food and drink program made it all the five-star experience one hopes to receive. If you're getting a drink or served by Adam then you're in for a delight. I had a zombie drink and the flavors were so well mixed that it was easy to forget how liquored up they were. This drink has a two drink maximum and lemme tell you, later that night it was clear why that is lol. I definitely had a good buzz flowing. My favorite part was the serving presentation which had the cinnamon sparks and flicks of fire. My friend was hungry and kept raving about the pork belly bowl and damn was she right. The pork belly was crispy and juicy with each bite. You can respect the aroma and fresh ingredients including green onions, pineapple, jalapenos, and fried garlic. You have to order one (maybe two) for the table. Take a look around and enjoy the vibes. It's an absolute must.

You want the communal spirit of being around travelers and maybe socializing but also want your own room and private bathroom? You don't want to pay for things that you won't use as you explore El Paso? Everything is barebones and exactly what a traveler needs, like free WiFi, fridge space, a bar of soap, towel, and headphones. It's quite utilitarian, but good quality. You need a space that's in the heart of Downtown in walking distance to all transport and hot spots; stadium, museums, fine dining, concert space? It's literally all that and I was able to walk and use a scooter to get around. It runs $80-$180 depending on the type of the room/bed size you want, but it will all be private and you would never bunk with a stranger. It's a unique little spot and honestly I can see it coming in handy for layovers and hangovers (from a night out). Everything is online and automated but there is a very nice attendant in the front desk. Come check them out and support local! Morning. The Boxstel came in so frickin handy after too many margaritas and shots at Elton's Dueling Piano Bar last night. After spending the night: Easy to get in and out of (locks and code worked perfectly) because instructions were everywhere. Caveat, we had to take the stairs and navigating 2 sets of stairs is difficult when you're buzzed. Thank goodness for the installed railings. We felt safe because 24 hr cameras and monitors. WEAR the Monster headphones provided. You WILL hear the extremely loud train outside, even though the hotel has great soundproofing. You will also hear the springs/squeaks/movement from your bunkmate on top 2 feet above. You will also hear the ridiculously loud and creaky floor boards everywhere. Blessedly though you can't hear other hotel guests Crazy amount of light, but the blackout roll curtains took care of that. Shower took a about 5 minutes to warm, and the pressure was limp as a baby's wrist, but it's expected from these old buildings and the only downtown hotel I stayed at that had decent pressure was PDN, after their upgrade. It was nice that the Boxstel provided towels (even offered extra ones) a small container of soap and a small bar of soap. I've stayed at motels that didn't even give you that for double the price It's cold, and we couldn't figure out the remote to turn on the heat and didn't know who to call, so we kinda suffered though the cold night. On the plus side, bedding is warm, laundered, and the bed for me is amazing. I slept on the bottom bunk and the bed was firm, just the way I like it. Even after bed head and a night of tossing and turning in a strange bed. I never felt claustrophobic. I still wouldn't recommend it for families, since I'd AirBnB still for a home like experience. BUT if they're less than 3 adults, need to be close to the hot spots, want convenience, are on a tight budget, coming in and out of El Paso on a quick trip or business, or exploring El Paso, it's a great alternative option. More choices for the consumer! Boxstel - Modern Stay (915) 234-2976 https://www.boxstel.com/ 500 W San Francisco Ave, El Paso, TX 79901

Granted, it was a Monday, and afterwards when I found out it was more of a bar that happened to have 90s video games, well the hype died a little bit. It also made sense why they'd be closed for lunch on a Monday. As I understand it, they're trying to steer away from the 90s theme because it seems like folks on the younger end are the bigger demographic. I mean, big surprise the folks in 30s and 40s don't go out and would rather stay in and go to bed earlier. I guess retro isn't as popular anymore. I mean it's not bad. As a bar it has pretty decent food, a good array of drinks, and a place to be sweaty and uncoordinated ie a dance floor. I guess when I came in here I thought it'd be more like an old school arcade that happened to have booze in it. Sort of like that one place with rows upon rows of games, laser tag, bumper cars, and ticket machines, so you could win cheap plastic prizes while getting absolutely hammered. Think Stranger Things but fewer monsters and more high scores. Cowa-friggin-bunga. Unfortunately for my own imagination that was not the case. Still, they have some classic 90s games against the wall. Ninja Turtles (NOT Turtles in Time), Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, all manner of Pac-Man and others. The games are all free, which is a definite plus. It's just more bar than arcade. Just so you know before going in. If that's what you're expecting out of this place, by all means go on in. I like this place fine, and it's fun to get a little taste of 90s childhood, I just wanted more.

On my watch list now is Lonesome Dove and on my read list is Empire of the Summer Moon. To be honest with you, since the training is at Safety Town at Bassett around dinner time, I've been disinclined to eat there since the food court has really terrible Asian food, they just give you a lot to make up for it. BUT yesterday I found a hidden gem, literally it's in the far right corner of the food court. I think it's called Mr. C - Snack Shop which is really odd because it has everything from burgers to tortas, to loaded fries. They also have all the agua frescas, and fresh fruits alongside the snacks like elotes and chilindras. This carne asada torta was the bomb. So much flavor, they weren't stingy with the meat and I only got one gristly piece of meat. It's filled with fresh lettuce, tomatoes, and avocado salsa. It comes with hand made fries which I normally don't like since they're limp and have skin attached, BUT these fries were covered with cheese sauce! Omg that just brought it to the next level... Best of all, it was around $10 which is a deal for the food court and in these inflationary times. Oh and all the movies at the mall on Tuesday are $5.75 all day! You want a safe place to play for your kiddos that they can climb? There's a kiddie area in the food court and I saw them sanitizing it pretty regularly, alongside the Easter Bunny pics. I admit I never really go to Bassett mall unless there's a big event, like this weekend's Kids Fair, or shop at Costco, but there are still local stores doing their best to survive and we can go and #supportlocal

They have a Dave and busters, express, target, few other stores and even a movie theater. The movie theater is the reason I normally come back. Since it's one of the smaller ones I have noticed it's never packed which is really nice! So shopping doesn't get as crazy as it would at the other malls. There are several people mainly seniors that are walking together as a exercising routine. One thing I would caution anyone is that Costco is right close by and their gas station is over by Dave and busters entrance, with that being said be carefully when going in and coming out because the gas station is always packed with cars in line.
