A word of warning if you plan on selling or trading in your vehicle to this dealer, Romano Subaru.. I spoke with the sales manager, Borzou Razmjou , and he agreed to a sale price of my old vehicle. After gathering the required paperwork and returning two days later to this dealer to seal the sale, he responded that he was no longer interested in my vehicle and then he quickly followed up with an offer 40% of what he originally agreed to. I find this sales tactic dishonest and unacceptable. Even though I purchased two vehicles from them in the past, I will be taking my business elsewhere in the future. read more

Brought my car in for a diagnostic appointment, the only information I received was the information that I told them while setting up the appointment. I asked them to take a look at the wires that had been melted due to an exhaust leak, they told me my wires were melted because of an exhaust leak. I just don't trust them, but don't know where else to take my Subaru to get major work done. I had some work done on my Forester in August- with my receipt they gave me a checklist with things that may need attention in the future. Rotors and brake pads were checked off as needing immediate attention along with some fluid flushes. Not quite 2 months later I had some different issues taken care of. Thousands of dollars later I am happy with what was taken care of, (not rotors and pads, not fluid flushes) but now all items on said check list are "fine" . No suggestion for flushes or brakes. Just seems odd that everything is acceptable now... I will say Romano does not go above and beyond for customers- my car had hand prints on the hood, papers on the floor, things they took out of glove box were not put back- just little things that could go a long way to make it a better experience. Be aware that if you need shuttle service or a loaner car- you have to ask- loaners are not automatically offered. Service never told anyone I needed a shuttle- luckily the shuttle driver is on point and came in to ask if anyone needed a ride. Mind you- issues that needed to be fixed seem to be good, but it's just not always the best experience there. read more

Late to the punch to review. I bought a 19 crosstrek in October. I had been to two other dealers prior. Christian F (salesperson) greeted me when I entered. After having been to 2 other dealers along with a Raymour Flanigan to mattress shop, I had been kinda jaded by sales pitches that sounded awkward, scripted, and one way. Christian talked to me like a Person. He was open to my questions as a new subaru owner and didnt sound like he listed off bullet points in his responses. On a whim, I went in to Romano Subaru on Black Friday 2014 after being strung along by other non-Subaru dealerships. I walked in with a "negotiation plan" for a White BRZ Limited. I did not plan on buying a car that day, as I was just browsing... Although I didn't get THE one I wanted, I was more than happy to have gotten the Red BRZ Limited showroom model! Why? Because working with Ben S. was an extremely pleasant experience. It made me reconsider how car buying should be. He did not make me feel uncomfortable in any way, and did not pressure me. There was no negotiation boloney, which was great! I got the price, and extras I wanted because I was realistic. I am a resident of CT, and he made sure to have everything lined up for me to be able to drive away the next day. I had that time constraint, and he made sure to get it ready as soon as he could. He made sure to check in to see how the car was driving. All and all, that made it a very nice experience. They have a good relationship with Zeibart next door, so it doesn't hurt to ask for their services. I would definitely travel back to buy my next car! Bravo Romano. read more

My brand new 2015 Subaru Legacy sedan which I bought at Romano's gives me heartburn. There are so many things wrong with it that I can't even begin to fathom the situations involved. I shouldn't even be having to bring my car down so soon to fix things on it. Some of the things I'm sure are just the way the car is made and the way I have to sit in it to be comfortable and if that is the case, then I will not be buying another Subaru ever, that's for sure. I brought it down once already and the checking I wanted done on it and the checking Subaru Headquarters wanted done on it was not even done. They said they could do nothing for me. I have written long emails to all parties involved at Romano, my consultant who shall remain nameless, the service manager, the general manager and Dave Romano himself, ALL GOING UNANSWERED. Is this any way to run a business? All I wanted to hear were SUGGESTIONS as to what I may do to alleviate some problems. And there were no responses and the responses I did get said "we don't have an answer for you". I have never been so disappointed with a car in my entire life and with the people who sold it to me. Nobody seems to be able to tell me WHY no one there is communicating with me. It's as if as soon as I walked away with the car and drove it home, their relationship with me ended. This review will be almost exclusively about my experiences with the Service department. My experiences with the Sales and Parts department were largely positive, albeit they did make me sit through an "upsell agent" after agreeing to the terms of sale, who basically tried to sell me add-ons like undercoating and aftermarket warranties. I did purchase an aftermarket 100k-mile warranty, and I will say that I did use the warranty numerous times (more than enough to pay for it), and have zero complaints about the warranty program itself. Up to about 75k miles I had zero complaints about the dealership - and actually even gave a few friends positive reviews of them. However, that all changed due to my final three visits: 1) I visited for an ABS light. Their initial diagnosis was that it was a failed wheel sensor - so they replaced the sensor. After replacing the sensor, the found that the issue didn't go away, and in further evaluation they found that the rear wheel ABS tone ring was bent (likely due to a poor quality brake job done previously at another shop). They told me that since the original sensor was fine, the warranty wouldn't pay for the non-returnable new sensor they installed, so I had to pay $300 - which is a lot when you're expecting a $0 warranty-covered repair. They also wanted me to pay $900+ for a new tone ring - I instead went home and straightened it with a screwdriver for $0. 2) In my next visit I complained that I felt one or more engine mounts were failing, since I could see evidence where the engine had hit the sides of the engine bay from excessive movement. Their evaluation was that everything was fine, and sent me on my way. A few months later, I had a coolant line burst (again due to excessive engine movement), and while they did fix the coolant line, they didn't check the engine mounts. Finally I took action into my own hands, and replaced the motor mounts myself. It turned out that one motor mount was completely broken off, and the other was only held on by a small margin. Had they bothered to even look up at the motor mounts during either of my previous reports, they would've easily seen this. 3) My third bad experience will be my final dealing with Romano Subaru. With about 90k miles on the clock (of my 100k warranty), I noticed I had excessive oil consumption. I reported this to the dealer, who then agreed to do the standard "oil consumption test" (all dealers will do this). After about 3000 miles of driving, the test came back positive for a problem (~7qts consumed in 3000 miles), and I dropped the car off for a couple days of evaluation. Their diagnosis was a failed turbo, due to a lacking of oil flow to the bearings, due to a clogged turbo oil filter (Subaru has issued a TSB to have dealerships remove this oil filter). I then dropped the car off, and a week later picked it up with a new turbo and turbo oil feed line (sans the now obsoleted filter). Fast forward 375 days and 11k miles, and the engine is making a horrible sound - turns out the turbo has completely failed. I drop the car off, and they tell me that the new turbo has failed due to a lack of oil flow due to a clogged turbo oil filter. For those of you keeping track, this is the same oil filter that I was told was removed in my previous visit. Even worse, since this turbo failed due to improper installation (which they did), and was outside it's warranty period (by 1k miles and 10 days), I was told I was SOL on this being a warranty repair - and it would cost $5000+ to repair. I then began the process of contacting Subaru of America, and filing a complaint. This process took an extended period of time, and about 20 days in, I got a voicemail message on my phone at about 4:45 on a Friday while I was at work. When I got out of work at 5:30, I heard the message from Mr. Romano that I had until the end of the day to come by and pickup my car which was trespassing on his lot, or else he was going to take it to the auction, sell it, and keep the money. Luckily I did make it down there by 6pm with a tow truck to get my car back, but I can tell you this will be my final dealings with this dealer. read more

The service advisor was rude. He said that I could come in and fix it myself if I wasn't satisfied. They kept my car over 2 weeks on a Subaru recall. When I pointed out that they had my car for two weeks- was told-"we're fixing it for free- what more do you wantLADY!?!?" read more

This review is for the body shop. I had a really good experience here when I brought my car to get a dent in the door fixed. Although Mike gave me two quotes ($2k to replace the entire door, or $1,300 to fix), we went with the fix because I'll be trading in my car in the next couple of years. Because my coworker was paying (she hit my door), I didn't have to wait for insurance, etc. Mike helped me schedule the work for a time when he had a free loaner available, and said it would take about a week or a little more. It took 10 days which was fine because I had the loaner. When I got my car back, the dent was fixed, the cost was exactly what he quoted me, and they had cleaned the inside of my car a little (wiped down surfaces, maybe vacuumed the mats). If I was paying myself, I might have gotten quotes from a few places, so I'm not sure how they compare from that standpoint, but the whole experience was really easy and convenient. read more

We had an outstanding experience with the Body Shop, Ryan in particular. My husband was on his way to Canada in my dad's car and had a small accident (but lots of damage) in Syracuse. Car towed to Romano's, they worked with our insurance company and me (I am in Texas) and met a ridiculous turn around date. I came in on the first week of November to look at a used yellow Crosstrek. I spoke to James in sales who informed me it was sold already and directed me to the larger Forester. After talking for a bit and determining I liked the Forester more, I explained I would not consider a larger vehicle unless it had a more powerful engine. He told me they had a turbo model just off lease, and it was his wife's car that was well taken care of. He stated it was being detailed and cleaned up before they could show it. I left my information with James at his request, and it is now December 20th, and I have never heard anything from James or even another employee regarding this turbo Forester. I have been waiting patiently but must now give up and move on to another dealer. It sucks because I was really excited to get a new vehicle before the snow hit, but that won't happen now because someone couldn't find time to make a simple phone call. I will never recommend this dealer because they downright lied about calling me when the car came in. read more

really disappointing customer service. I had to play "phone-tag" with Alex in the service department, who really didn't seem all too concerned about repairing my auto in a timely fashion (typical flaw of Subaru I just learned is blowing of the head gasket at about 145K) it's a 3,500$ repair - one would think they would be bending over backwards for my business. Nope. Worst service department in the world is an apt description. I had two subaru choices for service in the Syracuse area and I clearly picked wrong. Might get better service at Bill Rapp but I will never know since it's being held captive at Romano. I sincerely wish I read reviews first before towing my hunk of s**t Super-roo to them. I'm sure they don't have ANY training in REAL customer service. I'm surprised they didn't look at me like some-dumb-chick and try to sell me another car at some ridiculous interest rate. They have not instilled any brand loyalty into this consumer, and they certainly not getting any positive press from me. Going back to Honda for the next car. My CRX was still running without engine issues with 198K on it - guy who bought it still drives it. For petes sake Subaru KNOWS of this problem but their engineers can't be bothered to improve this flaw. I think they have seminars in how to "win friends and influence people" I suggest this as required reading for the staff. My recommendation - avoid avoid avoid. read more

I went to the dealership with an appointment to test drive 2 specific vehicles. The person I was supposed to meet with, passed me off to another salesperson. Both vehicles were not available. I ended up test driving 2 more expensive models. I was ready to buy the more expensive one and made an offer- a reasonable one $900 less than the asking price. It was flatly rejected with no counter offer. I walked out and they never tried to negotiate. I was not impressed at all. read more

Called today to schedule inspection and two recall jobs for my 2018 Outback...was told that if I wanted to wait at dealership while work is being done (recall work approximately 1 hour) first available was May 6th...as no space for me to wait????but if I leave the dealership they can work on my vehicle Thursday , April 11th...I opted for the sooner appointment ...I asked receptionist if I'm allowed to stay if I just have an inspection..she said No..and that I'm not allowed to "lie" and really stay when I was told to leave..still May 6th if I want to "stay"....I'm not able to shop at Destiny.(health issues)...if I Uber back to Oswego it's 56 dollars one way....people in my life are busy with work and businesses( our farm has bought a few vehicles here)...ugh...I'm really not understanding this policy???if you are swamped with work make your waiting room bigger...honestly I would just bring a book and wait for hours...I've done it with my other vehicles.....update ..I'm allowed to stay if I stand...I'm standing.... read more

I had my 2016 Forester towed to Romano on Nov. 23. I was told the car would be ready on Dec. 23. Here it is Jan. 25 and I still don't have my car. I was told "maybe" by the end of the month. Completely unacceptable. There is no way I could recommend this auto Brady shop to anyone. read more

As a person who has purchased many new vehicles at other dealerships, my first experience with Romano will be my last and I am overjoyed that we did not end up purchasing/leasing from them. However, we did place a $500 deposit on a vehicle that we decided not to lease. Without going into minute detail of the negotiations, many exclamations that were made by the salesperson regarding the prospective sale/financing/terms of said vehicle proved to be inaccurate. Because of this we informed Romano on September 8th that we would not be purchasing/leasing the car from them. Based upon that fact, we were surprised on September 12th when we received a call that the vehicle had arrived and was ready for pick-up. We reiterated that we were not going to be purchasing/leasing the vehicle and they were seemed shocked. I am not sure why they were shocked as no financing had been secured for the vehicle and our last communication with them on the 8th was that we would not be purchasing the car. Although they were disappointed and they were persistent in trying to get us to change our minds, they said they would refund our deposit as we had agreed to. On October 3, 2016 the deposit had not been received back. I made a phone call and ended up speaking with the General Manager Borzou. He informed me of the address that the deposit refund check was sent to and it turned out to be a physical rather than the mailing address. So, my first thought was that something had happened with the forwarding of the mail and that I would look into it with the post office. However, Borzou informed me that not only had the check been mailed, it had already cleared the bank and was cashed. When I asked him if he was sure that the check had been cashed, he said yes. In fact he called me back several minutes later to confirm that he had verified it and that the check had been mailed and had cleared the bank. Of course, we went into investigation mode. The only way that check would have been cashed was if it had been stolen. We spoke with people who had access to the mailbox at the physical address--some of these conversations were very awkward and received as accusatory. Our next action as directed by counsel with law enforcement was to contact Romano again and ask for more specific information about the check such as banking info; copy of the endorsement signature; date and location that it was cashed etc. This information was asked for verbally and Borzou was condescending and rude. He was exasperated with us "wasting his time." So, I put our request for information in writing via email and addressed it to both Borzou and the business manager. On October 5, 2016 Borzou called to let me know that the check had NOT been cashed. I asked why he had said it had been cashed two days earlier. I told him that his misinformation had caused us a lot of trouble. He responded by saying that we had, "wasted his time and wasted the time of his salesperson. He said that we had wasted hours of their time only to back out of a deal." I said that we had not backed out of a deal-- I explained the tactics used by the salesperson to get the deposit and that the "facts" he had stated during the negotiations proved to be inaccurate and that was why we could not purchase from him. He spoke over me, I spoke over him. The entire situation escalated to a place it didn't need to go because of his aggressive nature and rude delivery of information. I am shocked that a person that speaks to customers like he does has risen to the position of General Manager. The check was received on October 5th--forwarded to the PO Box by the postal service. Why it took over 20 days to arrive is a mystery. Romano did send the deposit as they stated they had. Unfortunately, the misinformation/lies of the general manager created an unnecessary and stressful situation. Anyone in sales knows that you are not going to make a sale every time you invest time in a customer. However, the way you treat a potential customer will determine if they ever return to your establishment. For the reasons stated above we would never return to Romano Subaru. read more

I called the dealership and asked to speak with a sales manager. I explained that I live out of state and would like to buy a car from an individual in the area but would buy it through them. The reason I wanted to go this route is because I am so far away that I would like the comfort of buying from a dealership. I explained that I have my own financing but I would go through them if that would help. I would even pay their fees which is a lot more than I would do buying from the individual. The attitude I got was basically... F OFF. The manager said "why would I want to do that?". I asked what his dealer fee was and he said "$1000, have a nice day" and hung up on me. I'm buying a Subaru and I'm willing to pay the ridiculous fees and this is how I am treated? I was polite. I can't imagine how they treat people in their store. read more

This is an update from my review of 11 days ago. I spoke with Mr. Razmjou, the general manager of the dealership. He was extremely apologetic and wanted to repair my cracked windshield at no cost. I had already had the damage fixed as I needed a safe vehicle for my daily commute and did not want to be inconvenienced any further. He insisted that he wanted to make up for poor decision by the service department, what could he do. I told him that reimbursement of half of my $1157 recent repair bill would show good faith on the his part. He said he could do that and today I received that check. Never, never, never buy a car from Romano Subaru. Bourzou and his staff are rude, rude, rude and hang up on you. They sold us a 2016 Legacy the day after Subaru put a recall on it. Immediately after we got home, we were told by Subaru that we could not drive it and that the dealer would arrange to have it inspected at our house and towed back if it needed recall service. When we tried to schedule the technician to come to our house, Dave Vito hung up in us. It took another week to get Bourzou to stop yelling at us about how many cars got recalled and to get the car towed. Everything Bourzou promised was a huge lie. Then Romano claimed they fixed the car and had it towed back without the key.Irt took 21 days of the 30 lemon law days for them to get the car back to us. Oh yeh, we've documented that because it only takes another 9 days of some service issue for us to get all of our money back. Mysteriously the key got lost. We're on our way to the Sheriff's office to force someone at Romano to give us our key back. We bought the car over a month ago. It has 50 miles on it and owning it has been the worst living hell we have ever experienced. Everybody at Romano is a liar and is way too rude to dral with the public. There are many other dealers out there. Go to one of them instead of Romano. read more

I've been a loyal customer to Romano ever since they rebuilt my engine , as of recently about 5 months ago my check engine light came on the car was in there a couple days they gave me a loaner , picked up the car less than a day check engine light came back on after over $2,000 to fix it it was fine. Now , last week my check engine light came on so brought it in and apparently I was burning oil before my oil change was due so after more than $500 down the drain to do two oil changes a oil flush and a osv valve replacement they claim to have test drove it around the corner and within less than 5 hours later my car is back in the shop with issues. I've been jerked around saying this is the issue and then once car brought back there's more issues which I don't understand because they have the equipment to see the underline problem when it wasn't the original problem or wasn't even fixed in the first place . I've spent so much money to be told it's not a guarantee that's the issue. If I was ' burning ' oil wouldn't think you would test drive it more than around the corner and the second you started the car up you could see it wasn't running light so instead of me leaving work thinking my car was ready wasting more of my time with BS ! So as I call back I was told 5:30 was fine due to me getting out of work to have the technician look at it as I get there NOBODY was there accept a girl at the service desk ! I've been more than understanding but now this is out of hand and my loyalty to coming to Romano that has been claimed the best service and dealership in the area has now come to a halt and will no longer give them any business!
