Enjoyed the great ambiance. Music was fun with great cultural vibes. The staff was very friendly and kind. You need to order shrimp ceviche and tacos. Huge shrimps with a fair amount of tostadas. The Carne asada was very tender and scrumptious. There's complimentary chips and salsa. (Very addicting) They give you a variety of hot sauces to choose from at your table. I can't wait to come back and try their menudo next time I'm in the area. (Available on Sundays)

Sooo dang good. Carne asada burrito. Big enough to feed a family.

Got two carne asada special burritos. Should have just ordered one. Huge. HUGE! And absolutely delicious! Green salsa was tasty, no real heat. Red sauce is sooo fire!! Whoo!! Reminds me of central Ca good home cooking taqueria yumminess. . Cant wait to try more snakies from here.

Jalapeno poppers: Pretty standard, always delicious, big portion and the ranch is goooooood. 5/5 Chicken Flautas: I enjoyed these much more than my typical flauta experience! The dough was flaky and the chicken was not as dry as the usual, they also filled it with cheese, which helped. Buttery dough, moist chicken, and generously applied cheese - it's like these guys know the way to my heart. 5/5 Shrimp Burrito: Usually I like my shrimp burritos to be more fresca style, like with white rice, white cheese, tomatillo sauce, cilantro - but this was one of the few that I enjoyed as a tomatoy rice and beans mix up but it was still very tasty! Usually shrimp are overcooked, this was no exception, but despite being a bit rubbery, the tortilla shell was good and I still enjoyed. 4/5 Ordered from here through GrubHub and it was a satisfying and huge meal (like 4 total per person mals) for about $50. My only complaints were the very small portion of the sides of rice and beans that came with the "plate" at the restaurant it is a much larger portion and since Grubhub jacks up the price already it is extra disheartening when the portions are smaller as well. The gaucamole and pico de gallo mix was also nothing to write home about, but the warm food was definitely all very satisfying. Yelp is a must-use before you order from here because neither the restaurant website nor the Grubhub website have descriptions of what the food is (let alone having pictures to show you what you're in for). Yay yelp!

Pambazo!! Chorizo y papas! I called every Mexican restaurant from Santa Ana to Newport and NONE (but Roman) had a chorizo y papas pambazo. So e of the food trucks have them but only chorizo without potatoes. Anyway, it was delicious; only thing is I wish the bread was fried. But the flavors were the same and what I was looking for. It's huge, share with a friend.

Inside is clean, cool and cultural!

I tried Romans for the first time after seeing it on the OC Registers Oct 2021 Article in the best taco places in OC. I've tried several on the list but not this one. I got what the critic suggested to try the carnitas and desebrada aka Barbacoa, or shredded beef. As advertised, both meats were very moist and favorable. I will definitely try this place again if I'm in the area.

A small Mexican taqueria in Costa Mesa that is primarily known for their Rancho Huevo (fried eggs on corn tortillas and topped with fresh salsa). The Desebrada, or sometimes referred to as Barbacoa (slow cooked beef), is also often mentioned as some of the best in Orange County. Tacos are the way to go here. They are hefty sized and loaded with meat that is always cooked to order. (So expect a longer wait time for your orders here.) The meats were all very flavorful but a tad dry and overcooked. Choice of meats: asada (beef steak), carnitas (braised pork), pastor (Shepard style pork), cabeza (beef head), pollo (chicken), desebrada, buche (pork stomach), lengua (beef tongue), tripas (beef tripe) Seafood choices: breaded fish, grilled fish, grilled shrimp, salmon (if ordering as a taco plate only) A comprehensive menu of mostly authentic Mexican dishes includes 30 lunch or dinner plates with meat, fish or shrimp. Prices range from $8.99 to $17.99. Their menu also includes breakfast plates, breakfast burritos, grilled quesadillas, nachos, antojitos Mexicanos or American appetizers, burger combos, side orders, salads and soups. Mexican beers, alcoholic cocktails, domestic and other imported beers, and seafood cocktails complete their menu. There is an impressive array of refrigerated beverages, alcoholic and non-alcoholic, in a huge glass door merchandiser cooler that will rival those of any liquor or convenience store. A good spot for Mexican food, breakfast, lunch and dinner. Open 7 days: M-F, 9am-9pm, Sun 9am-3pm

Carnitas plate- meat had some flavor but the rest was bland. The beans were just ok

If you like food with flavor, this is NOT the place for you. This was my 1st time eating at this restaurant. Super disappointed. The presentation of the food for the most part looks like any other. However, everything that was ordered was pretty much missing seasoning/flavor or overcooked to the point it was not edible. The chicken was so dry nothing could help it. Pastor taco was a little dry and had somewhat flavor. Carnitas were ok. Meat wasn't super dry and tasted ok for the most part. Rice was bland. Chili Verde burrito huge. Will not be returning back.

Fine place but not amazing. Huevos rancheros were good but not amazing. The carne asada taco was dry. Not the best on ace but definitely not bad!

"Pazole" made from a white woman because no way a Mexican did this. If they did, they should be ashamed!

Just disgusting. I'm not even upset because DoorDash gave me my money back. But this "pazole" and "guacamole" must have been made by a Ms. Greta because this is NOT Mexican. They should be ashamed!

Breakfast burrito with Sausage, Egg & Cheese Burrito

I was really hoping this place would be good for me to come back since I get my laundry done next door. I ordered a breakfast burrito and I was excited because the size is big. But it's just a thin layer of egg with like Jimmy dean sausage patties slapped on top. The red salsa is just hot no flavor and the green salsa is sour and not in a good vinegar hint type way. I won't be coming back

I've been going to Romans for many years but have been disappointed in the last couple of years because their prices are outrageous and they add a 4% charge now to your bill. The owner charges a dollar extra for each little small round container of salsa that you order and you're only allowed two small containers per burrito! They used to have an amazing salsa bar but stopped doing it, I think it's because of greed and not because of inflation, my Mexican style breakfast burrito was $16.99 because I added potatoes and bacon that is ridiculous. and it was $5 for a few more small extra salsas that are not even filled up all the way. I had forgotten that my last experience going there was disappointing because it was so expensive but I decided to try it again. I will never go back it was $46 for three breakfast burritos that weren't even as good as they used to be. Super disappointed

Nice little Mexican food spot located where HUB used to be. They don't advertise it on their menu…read morebut they have an unpublished kids menu that includes: grilled chicken with rice and refried beans, chicken strips with French fries or quesadilla (choice of cheese, chicken, or steak) with rice and beans. I really enjoyed the puerto Nuevo enchiladas and my 4 yr old loved them too! He also nearly went face down in the flan with coconut ice cream. My son loves coconut ice cream but now he also loves flan! They have a cool decor in the restaurant and it's very modern. There's a bathroom at the end and they have high chairs if you need them. Service was great and we'd come back again.

It's a fun spot to grab a drink for the ambiance, but as a full meal, it leaves a lot to be desired. The food itself is okay--the quesa birria tacos have decent flavor and the carne asada comes with a nice char--but given the steep prices, you expect way better execution and more generous portions. Paying high-end money for pretty standard street food staples dressed up on nice plateware just feels overpriced. Service was fine enough, nothing to complain about, but the value just isn't there for what they're charging. On top of that, parking can be a bit challenging since it's tucked away in kind of a weird location. If you're going purely for photos, fancy cocktails, and a trendy date night backdrop, it fits the bill, but if you're looking for great food value, there are much better spot-on Mexican joints in OC.

The food was excellent [wife loved the Elote Corn], the drinks were amazing, the service was on point [Wife said Manny was the best and his dancing is the best entertainment], but what made the experience so enjoyable was the patio atmosphere. I guess they just recently started having DJ's on the patio for Sunday Brunch and the 2 DJ's that I spoke to really quick, Brandon and Jensen were absolutely amazing [Wife said, they used to DJ the Saturday Brunch at the Country Club that her and her friends loved, and the 3rd DJ Matt, Brandon's Brother, they used to DJ Friday Nights at Memphis Cafe]. They played the biggest range of music from Salsa to Reggaeton, 80's New Wave to 90's R&B, 2000's Hip Hop, the whole MJ era with cool house remixes and even a little bit of reggae. If you were a kid that grew up in the 80's and 90's they take you on the most amazing musical journey that just brings back a ton of good memories. And to top it off, seeing the servers dancing and enjoying themselves with the greatest attitudes makes this one of OC's Hidden Gems for sure. Definitely going back there for sure!
