Roman's is lightly hidden near a laundromat and dry cleaners, but once you notice the sign and menu outside the door, just go ahead and step in. Inside dining area is roomy and clean. On the side of the room, is a huge refrigerated area with plenty of beer, sodas and juices in stock. On the other side, staff is cooking away and ready to take your order. The menu is full of great selections to choose from. I was so impressed with the Flautas I ordered that I enjoyed immensely with its flavor and portions! The hubbster had the Carnitas, which were amazing with just one bite! The best carnitas EVER! Perfectly seasoned, nicely salted and crispy! A++ for muy buena comida! I commend Roman himself! Mom and pop shop. I do laundry at Sudz so my husband and I frequent this place while we wait for a load to finish. The server is extremely friendly and the food is good. Big portions for decent price. Good sauces. I saw a sign for freshly squeezed orange juice and it might have literally been the best OJ I ever had in my life. I could be bias for several reasons here. I am a huge fan of Mexican food. No matter what town I visit, it's the local Mexican cantina I seek out. And so, when we moved to CM and saw that Roman's was within walking distance, we all did a little happy dance. We practically live there and the owners should know us by name before the end of the year. The owners are super nice, the food is incredibly good. There is plenty of parking. There is a mini salsa bar. Their menu covers both breakfast & lunch/dinner. The huevos rancheros was quite tasty. They offer dollar tacos everyday and they ain't too shabby! This place is terrible. We ordered the wet burritos and they were hardly wet!! The carnitas were very dry. It's like a brand and rice burrito that they add meat too. There's no Pico de Gallo in it even though the menu says there is. There is no flavor to anything. Oh and you get beans and rice on the side on top of the ones in the burrito! So bad!! Was out and about running errands and had a huge craving for Chilequiles. Stopped by this little place and was pleasantly surprised. I got the Chilequiles which comes in a red sauce. It comes with rice and beans and 2 eggs. The eggs I got scrambled and they were cooked perfectly. (I dislike runny eggs, gross). I wish the Chilequiles were a little crisper but overall they were good. I could never recommend a place that has bad salsa and I'm glad to say this place has great salsa. Plus they have a salsa bar so you can choose your own! Tip: pay the extra $4.99 for the fresh squeezed OJ. It was well worth it. read more

I came in because I was doing my laundry nearby. They have large menu board, I ordered Chicken Mole plate, and a small drink. There is only a 20 cent difference so I don't know why I got the small. Altogether it was like $18.75 for lunch. To me that is on the high side for lunch in a casual place like this. When the plate came it was huge! It could have fed 2. The Mole was really good, it also had a little salad, a side of rice and refried beans. The guy gave me chips in the beginning and there is a salsa bar, the salsa was very good. All in all it was a fair deal, I wish they had lunch specials. They should say we have breakfast and dinner. It was lunchtime there was just a handful of people, all guys watching soccer games. It was one game then they turned on another monitor with another game and audio was on for both. It was very confusing and all in Spanish. Good food though! I asked her if it it was alright to sit at any table and she said "sure". So I sit down waiting for someone to bring a dine-in menu... 5 mins go by... 10 mins go by... then a gentleman walks in, and the cooks look disturbed, but they took his order right away since he walked up to the register. The girl is in the back kitchen now and I'm still waiting for the menu. I ended up walking up to the register as well and the guy didn't speak at all. I had to ask "are you ready????", he said "yes". I placed my order. The food came out within 10 mins and omg it was HORRIBLE-the cheese was literally just thrown on the chimichanga and beans. And everything tastes like a breakfast sausage, which was odd. As I was trying to figure out the taste of each item, the girl literally starts mopping again all around me! The floor was soaked! I couldn't take it anymore so I asked for a box, which she tried to give behind my back (I had to turn towards her), just so I can give the food to someone in need of substance because quality is not here. I ordered via Uber eats & the service was nice and quick - but I'm pretty sure the cheese quesadilla I just ate was a actually public bathroom in the park disguised as a quesadilla. Someone recommended this place to me and so today I gave it a try. I had the breakfast burrito with chorizo, eggs and cheese. It is made with fresh eggs which I feel worth mentioning since so many restaurants use the liquid eggs. The burrito was huge, almost too much! However, it was so good that I ate the whole thing anyhow! Now this is a simple place. The same person that takes the order does the cooking and delivers the food. It is very low priced! Breakfast Burritos are the 2nd best here in Costa Mesa next to Roosters, who holds the title here, at least in my eyes. They open at 9am though, which is the only downside if you're up early and want to get breakfast 1-2 hours earlier, but I think it's worth the wait. You can't miss the place when you're on Newport Beach Blvd heading away from Newport Beach. Never had any issues here. They should get their menu online in a better spot though, because from what I remember it's outdated and you have to hope it's still what they have. read more

I got the Chilaquiles w egg over medium on top. The egg was cooked through and the chilaquiles didn't seem authentic. They tasted super bland, almost a tomato-y taste to them, like marinara. The most disappointing part is that they was absolutely no spice in them at all. I've had these elsewhere and they've been very spicy, without asking. The clincher (which brought this review down another full star) is that they did not include tortillas nor was the rice very good. It tasted kind of crispy and didn't have that fluffy goodness and taste I've experience elsewhere. I can't put my finger on what was missing in the Mexican rice flavor, but something was amiss. Also, they included no salsa (yes I did order in advance for pickup). All in all, I had an issue w everything included in my meal. The price was high for this underwhelming experience. Just seems that if I had this bland experience then most other things on the menu would taste similarly... maybe it's just more Americanized? Not sure... In any case, I won't be back. I'm sorta torn on this place. First off, PLEASE clean your cook top. It is visible from the cash register and just covered in black scalded oil soot. I almost walked out upon seeing that. But, I didn't. Tried two tacos, which run around $2.50 here but are the larger version of street taco. Packed full of meat, both were delicious. Meats were seasoned, flavorful and juicy. Tried their carne asada and the even better one, their al pastor (especially with the the salsa verde from their salsa bar). The salsa bar doesn't look as fresh as it should be, but my stomach held up. Service was adequate, but neither guy broke a smile. And they seemed put out to have to leave their buddies at the bar to serve us. Dining room is simple, has a wall of coolers full of drinks, and a few flat screens with soccer on. It could use a spit shine but it's not bad. While it has issues, I enjoyed my tacos. I will surely be back. read more

This place is as amazing as the other reviews state. I came here for lunch and tried the wet burrito plate. WOW! It's huge, and pops with flavor. I am craving one as I write this but should really try some of their other items. The interior is clean and service was friendly. During my visit here the state alcohol and tobacco agent made a surprise inspection. While it was awkward and interrupted the workflow of the employees, the agent left appearing that everything was in order! I will definitely be back. read more
