Eight or nine years ago I bought a Jetta (used) with some major seat ripping. Romel (who I knew of from an old place on Fair Oaks which completely redid my Camry upholstery for me) got the Jetta upholstery looking like new for a very reasonable price. Today I brought in my VW GTI with a seat rip. It started small a long time ago and I've been dragging my feet until the point where it was really ugly. He got it fixed today so that you can't tell there was ever an issue. The red stitching, everything is perfect. I don't know what's happening with the other negative reviews here but for me he's only done work that is absolutely amazing. You could never tell that the upholstery isn't original. My girlfriend needed the headliner of her older Audi sports car replaced. It was sagging badly on both the drivers and passenger sides. I got a couple estimates in the east Pasadena area. The first estimate was for $750 - too much. Next was Romel's Auto Upholstery. I'd seen from the photos of other reviewers that he seemed to do good work. Romel's estimate -- $400, right about what I thought was fair. He got the job. He was able to start the job within a couple days. We dropped off the car in the afternoon so he could start first thing the next morning. He was done by about 1pm. The new headliner looked like an original factory job. Romel is old school and I think he is a one man shop who does all the work himself. He did a terrific job for a more than fair price. I highly recommend him. Make sure you go to his Foothill Ave address. His old Colorado Blvd address is still out there on the internet in a couple places. Old school also means bring cash or a check. No plastic. I just received a message via Yelp stating that I gave this company 3 stars just because I could not afford their services. I just want to clarify what I previously wrote. I purchased leather seat covers from another company. I just needed Romel's Auto Upholstery to put it on top of the front seats. They did not have to remove the existing seats. They did not have to upholster the seats. They only had to put the seat covers that I purchased on top of the seats. It took me less than 30 minutes per seat to install. They were going to charge me $240 just to put a cover that I had already purchased on top of 2 seats. I am assuming that he saw that I was old, and that I didn't have much of a choice. Well, I have to say that the storefront gave me doubts, because it didn't look very professional. Update: I discovered a giant 5 to 6 inch scratch on the bumper of my car. I was careful enough to line my trunk with a blanket so it wouldn't scratch anything. The only person that carried the seats off the car were Romel. The foot of my leather seats also matched the pattern on the bumper. After further inspection of the seats, I've notice about half of the trim pieces also have sharp screwdriver scratches on them. I'm not sure why Romel didn't bother using a plastic trim tool which is readily available and extremely cheap to purchase. I'm sure he has one but decided to lazily grab a screwdriver instead. read more

This shop was recommended to me by a long-time friend. The owner gave me an estimate for a new headliner. The quote was fair ($330.00). So I scheduled the work to be done. Short story long, I brought my car in as scheduled at 8am. I made it clear that I needed it back no later than 6pm..."no problem" he said. 5:30pm rolls around, so I walk over to pick my car up, arriving at 5:50pm. The shop is closed and my car is (thankfully) "locked" behind a plastic chain fastened with a nut and bolt. I call the owner to let him know that I am taking my car and I will return first thing the next morning. "But I need to get my money and vacuum the car a little bit" he says. My reply; "please don't worry, I'm not a thief, and besides, you have my spare key which I will be wanting back...see you in the morning". I get in my car, AND HOLY MOTHER OF GOD!!! The interior is COVERED in debris, the trim panels are spattered with glue, one (irreplaceable) panel is broken, another is missing a clip that is vital for it's proper fitment, and the sunroof control no longer works. Upon returning the next morning, I point all of this out to him. His relpy; As for the panels - "those were already broken"...BULL.SHAT!!! They were in pristine condition. And as for the sunroof control - "I don't know, I didn't touch it"...REALLY? Then how in the hell did you get the new material underneath the bezel? I made it clear that he needs to correct all of this. "Okay" he says. Then he proceeds to "troubleshoot" the sunroof issue by repeatedly pressing the button in rapid succession as if he were a tweaker fervently clicking a mouse to load Internet porn. I stopped him and proceeded to schedule the repairs and pay him (big mistake *facepalm*, I KNOW, I KNOW, I KNOW, F!CK, I KNOW. OKAY!). He says "going to be $350.00, it was a lotta work". *DEADPANBITCHFACE* I look at him and remind him that he quoted me $330.00 "Okay treechirty" he says. I payed and scheduled my return... C'est La Vie. After much contemplation and pissedoffedness, I came to the realization that I wouldn't let this person take out my trash. So he will definitely not be touching my car again. I'd rather take the loss. This whole experience has reminded me of the company tagline from Ken Sorensen's shop in Pasadena, which was; "Long after price forgotten...Quality remains". They did AMAZING work. I will forever miss them. We've been #Walmartized (you heard it here first) my fellow Americans and the Craftsmen, us consumers, and the fabric of our country has deteriorated to rags. read more

The headliner on my car separated and needed repair. I went to my exceptional, honest mechanic who has many, many years of experience in the area and he strongly recommended Romel. Romel has a very clean, small shop and from the cars and projects I saw does high quality work. He explained that the headliner is actually two pieces that are glued together and that they had separated. Given this, it needed replacement rather than simply re-gluing. He actually had a sample book with the exact type of headliner for my car. I went to another Pasadena upholstery shop which got high reviews and was given a quote that was over 150% higher than Romel's price. The owner noted that the plastic might crack and various other risks associated with a very simple, basic job. Suffice it to say, that confirmed the integrity and honesty of Romel. It also suggests the risks associated with blindly relying on Yelp average ratings without reading some of the reviews and still relying on your own common sense. I have a brand new car and purchased some custom very nice quality seat covers from another company and needed someone to install them for me. I went to 2 other local shops and their quotes seemed very high. They told me that it would be an all day job as the seats would have to be removed so I expected to get another high quote from any other shop. I read some good reviews about Romel's so I went to see him. His shop looked very small, was hard to find, looked like a one man show, a real hole in the wall so when I went there I have to admit I had my doubts. When I spoke to him my impression was that he was a friendly, hard working and honest guy so although I still had my doubts I decided to give him the business as he quoted me less than half the price of the other two shops and he seemed very eager to do the job. I thought it would take him all day but he finished in 4 hours and everything looked perfect, he did a great job and I was very pleased.
