I had three different problems at three different times happen to my car over the October - November 2011 period. They fixed it fast (and on time), fixed it properly, and did not overcharge. Best of all, Raul always showed me what was wrong with my car: he would show me the part they replaced and the damage to the part, and because of this I never felt ripped off, which is something I cannot say for other car shops. I wasted 2 hour here. I just replaced the pinion seal on my differential and needed to have it elevated to adjust to the preload when tightening the flange nut. They said it would be a few hours so and I was called back because the said the seal was still leaking and they would not adjust it and I should take it to a company specializing in differentials. I took a look and it wasn't leaking but to be sure, I sprayed the differential with engine degreaser and cleaned it. I drove it a few miles then inspected it again finding no leak. I'm guessing the mechanic decided they could not do the work after lifting my van. There was also fresh damage to my rocker panels from improper lifting that I suspect but can't blame them for because it could have been done at Walmart where I recently had the tires rotated. read more

Highly recommended!! Overheated on 152 last Sunday on my way home from LA. The tow driver recommended Rom's. We were in two cars so we let the broken down one at Rom's. I called Monday morning and they found the water leak, repaired and had the car ready in not time, at a very fair price. No taking advantage of an out of town stranger. Who likes their car breaking down on their way home after a nice little vacation? No one! Even worse... The car breaking down 300+miles away from home late at night, with every possible shop already closed. Well, luckily we came across Rom's Auto Service. He understood our situation, was willing to stay open past 8pm to help us, and did all his effort to find us the part we needed last minute and still at a great price! I am from Los Angeles area driving from San Francisco when my car broke down. I'm definitely saving this shop, and recommending it to anyone who is out in that area. Our car broke down on a Friday evening at 4:30 pm and we needed to get to a wedding rehearsal dinner (my husband was the pastor) that night. AAA recommended Rom's because they were open late. We got there at about 5:30 and Rom was willing to take a look at the car. It turned out that we had a faulty radiator cap and he called for a replacement and filled up the radiator. We were back on our way by 6:30 and had no problems since then. Rom was helpful, gracious and very fair priced. We weren't happy about the breakdown but because Rom was so friendly, we ended up having a great experience overall. High recommend Rom's if you are ANYWHERE near Gilroy! read more

Rom's Auto Service is the best. i had 2 parts i needed installed and stopped by to see how much he would charge. He told me $100 and 1 hr it would be ready so i took a walk downtown gilroy and headed back a little after a hour. I handed him the $100 and he said only $60 since it took less than he thought. Do not I repeat do not go to this place! I took my car in for a head gasket fix on a Honda, Raul the owner said it was going to be 1500$ so I gave him 2 weeks w/ the car so that i could get the money together. 2 weeks later and the day I get the car back the check engine light goes on! Also come to find out there is a cap missing under my hood and things are loose and not in place! I take it back and he says it's fine and orders a new cap and resets the check engine light. Then the next day again the light comes on! He tightens more stuff and apologizes. Then a day later my car is having trouble on the highway! I had to pull over and be towed because my car had no go, so I take it back A THIRD TIME, and says something else is wrong that he will fix it, I get my car back LASTNIGHT and I'm still having the same problem with the car having no go, and the check engine light comes on AGAIN. The problem with my car seemed worse after he "fixed " then before he fixed it. I take my car back for a FOURTH time and he comes to tell me that he needs to order a new part for the car and that I have to pay for it after paying him 1500$?! I don't think so. i will never go here again. now do i recommend anyone to go here. i used to go here all the time before because the guy did great work for a cheap price. i had my car towed here from hollister because the front right control arm snapped on me one day. (such bad luck) i took my own parts from oreileys and it was all hell from there. first oreileys gave me mis mtached parts. they gave me the front right upper control arm and front left lower control arms. so instead of the rom shop telling me that it was mismatched parts, he put it on and let me drive off like that. i remind you i live in hollister so i could have died on the way home. i took it to another shop in hollister because i heard rattling. they told me about the mismatched parts. so i called back roms shop and he said thats what i get for taking mismatched parts.he said he will put anything on becuase i didnt let him get the parts. i have always taken my own parts and no problem before. the new shop told me he forced the parts to fit together and one was upside down to fit. so i had to repay someone else to take off the wrong parts, i had to run back to oreileys (all on a borrowed ride and i had to pay them for gas cause my car was occupied) and get new parts and pay someone again to put the new parts back on. horrible experince. read more

I work on cars, but I sometimes get stuck, and need to ask for help. I came in to Rom's to ask some questions about a car and also talk about a car club for a automotive community college program to help out other young mechanics. I don't always have much luck at other places in the Gilroy/Morgan Hill area. Either the people I talk to just try to gouge customers, or they aren't very community focused. But, I was *pleasantly* surprised when I came here. I would strongly recommend this garage. They are strong supporters of the community, helping customers keep costs down, supporting automotive education. They are good folks. They know about cars they work hard to help keep costs down for their customers. They will not size up customers and try to see what they can get away with, like franchises often do. Any negative comments you read about this place on Yelp are not super-informed comments, if you know anything about cars. Either that, or the comments seem...contrived. This is a good garage. Regardless of you knowledge, this is a good place to go. read more
