My daughter started her treatment with Dr.Schwalb in 2021 at his original practice which he then later moved to Diamond Braces. Unfortunately, our experience overall with Diamond Braces, especially their Hell's Kitchen location and Dr. Schwalb has been terrible and disappointing on many levels. After our doctor's transition to Diamond Braces, direct oversight of my daughter's treatment noticeably decreased. Most appointments were handled almost entirely by dental assistants, with little to no involvement from the orthodontist whose expertise I had originally been referred to and signed up for. While assistants play an important role, orthodontic treatment is highly specialized, and the lack of consistent doctor supervision, especially when having been directly referred to him, was both obvious and concerning. Not only was it confusing, it also led to a decrease in the quality of the dental work, because of this decline, the treatment time was extended and we were charged for it. After treatment was "over", my daughter was given a permanent retainer which detached in less than 3 months. This was concerning in itself, but even more so given that her teeth had not been fully corrected and were still not in the proper position at the end of years long treatment. For a result that took longer than projected and extended months beyond the original estimated completion date, the outcome simply did not reflect the time, extra cost, or expectations set at the beginning. Overall, the process felt rushed at the end, loosely managed, and far less attentive than promised. I would strongly discourage patients seeking dental work to choose Dr.Schwalb and his new practice at Diamond Braces as it is more than often faulty, dismissive and careless. read more

We were patients back when he had a cosy, private practice. Now, my kid needs a touch-up on a retainer years after she got her braces off, and the new "Diamond Braces" is a disaster: no communication, rude receptionists (really just a bunch of ignoramuses at a "call center"). It is so disappointing bc we were friends w him. But after this one fix with a new ortho at a new location (you have no control over where they send you and they do not know anyone's schedule...!), we will find a new ortho should we ever need one. My guess is that he is close to retirement and just wants out. Glad we knew him back in the good old days. If you do not favor health-industrial complexes, avoid this group. read more

Where do I start. Dr. Schwalb was great in the beginning but then when he sold his practice to Diamond Braces my treatment went haywire. They did not transfer over my new set of Invisalign to his new office. So, what would have been the typical two weeks between trays turned into THREE+ MONTHS. I had to tell them my teeth likely shifted so much in those three months the ones that were ordered in FEBRUARY would not fit in MAY. After gaslighting me into believing it would be fine, i had to rescan and wait another two more weeks to get Invisalign that fit. The admins were extremely unhelpful in booking me an appointment to pick up my trays (but i will get into that another time...this is about "Doctor" Schwab. Finally after months of waiting i get new trays. During regular checkups, i assume he will see what i see: that my treatment needs to be longer (because his office messed up my trays so bad i went four months -- at least -- without treatment). I brought up my lack of treatment and results numerous times with him at every appointment. He said i looked "great." You know what i looked like? Like i had CROOKED UNEVEN TEETH. As my appointments wound down, i realized he didn't want to acknowledge he messed up on me. I agreed I was "done with treatment" because he had gaslit me into thinking i was. But i mustered up the courage to speak up after be silenced and (kindly...you can ask him) told him i was still unhappy with my bottom teeth. He "shaved them down" yet they still look terrible and uneven. Not to mention my top teeth, which i didn't have a huge problem with before, now look uneven. Yet, after months of denying me care, ignored my concerns, and gaslighting me since FEBRUARY i was "80% done" he told me it was fine (after four months without treatment because of his office's error) i was now done with treatment. DONE WITH TREATMENT HOW. My teeth are still bad and after ignoring my concerns you pressured me into thinking they were fine. The math aint mathin. I have been doing some research about braces and orthodontists. I went to two orthodontists and Dr. Schwalb was my third. He started with a general question--what don't you like about your teeth and your smile? I pointed out two things to which he said he couldn't fix. He looked at my teeth and these were his words, I can not! If I hadn't gotten feedback from the other two orthodontist and their consults--opposite of what he said--I would have been really disappointed. To make matters worse, Dr. Schwalb has a consult fee. I barely sat down for 5 minutes TOPS and got no assessment except he isn't capable of doing something the other two dentists can do, he wanted his consult fee. Wow. Just wow. read more

I got invisalign from Dr. Schwalb and am very happy with both the treatment and results. Dr. Schwalb was always conscious of my concerns, answered all my questions and continued treatment until I was satisfied. His staff consists of a bunch of sweet ladies who are efficient and knowledgeable. For all the people complaining about Dr. Schwalb's demeanor, I totally don't get it, he has always been super pleasant. He is terse and focused when it comes to the actual purpose of the appointment, which is why this office manages to run on time. Also, I have been pretty punctual to all my appointments and have NEVER had to wait more than five minutes. This is a huuuge positive, especially when so many practices in the city tend to have insane wait times. Whatever skills Dr. Schwalb has as an orthodontist are outweighed by two negatives. The first is the horror of the insanely small reception area; twice we've had to wait in the unsafe, old, and uncomfortable hallway. The second is the "direct" manner of the doctor and his staff; this is the Department of Motor Vehicles for orthodontics. The empathy-free method may be good for no-nonsense adults but drill sergeant dentistry was traumatic for our pre-teen (who was embarrassed enough in getting braces). read more

Dr. Schwalb is very personable and approachable. One of the reasons I chose him for my daughter's orthodonture was his direct and honest approach. He pretty much laid out what had to be done in her course of treatment and we were always apprised of her progress. My daughter's braces were removed yesterday and she has a great result, beautifully straight teeth. Everyone on his staff were always helpful and professional. We rarely had long waits. A big thank you goes out to Chris in his NJ office who was so helpful in alerting us towards an under the radar dental insurance plan. I first saw Dr. Schwalb a couple years ago when I had lost my original retainer / nightguard and needed a replacement. I remember him being very professional, efficient, and honest -- if I recall correctly, he offered me 2 options, and I chose the thinner, cheaper, more comfortable option. I returned to see him earlier today because I was worried that my teeth had slipped back into an edge-to-edge bite, which my dentist cautioned could lead to chipping. He told me that if I wear my nightguard all the time, there is little danger of chipping, as my teeth will typically not be touching during the day. He said that he could correct my bite, but that it would cost thousands of dollars and leave me with gaps between my teeth which I'd then need my dentist to fill in. Dr. Schwalb had every incentive to offer me as much treatment as possible, but instead he gave me honest advice that saved me (and lost him) thousands of dollars! I was also out of there in 20 minutes, without feeling like our appt was rushed. If I could, I'd perhaps subtract half a star for the fact that my teeth are now end-to-end, but it's possible they had already slipped back to that position by the time I originally went for a replacement retainer/nightguard, as at that point I had gone several months without wearing my retainer/nightguard. read more

Dr. Schwalb really cares about his patients - I got invisalign with him and he was fair on price and continued treatment until I was satisfied with my teeth even though it required ordering another set of invisalign... I went to see Dr. Schwalb as an adult at the age of 35 because I was developing a complex about my teeth and as a result made me extremely unhappy. On 08/12 I visited Dr. Schwalb, he explained treatment precisely, with affordable pricing and financing, so I went for it. At first I must admit, I was miserable, but soon after... I'll admit it, I'm REALLY picky and a bit high maintenance about my doctors/dentists. In fact, I was so traumatized by a bad dental experience a few years ago that I avoided anything teeth related for almost 4 years - yeah, really bad... After changing insurance and having a amazing experience w/ my new dentist, I got a referral from them for Dr. Schwalb as I was on a mission to beautify my smile. I read some of the bad reviews on here but wasn't entirely deterred b/c we live in an age where people like to be treated like PRINCESSES and coddled and a dr who is direct & to the point does not translate to grumpy for me. Bottom line, I am SO GLAD I went! Dr. Schwalb's office is nice and clean, his staff is friendly & consistent (I always see the same familiar faces) and he has been nothing but friendly & kind every time I see him. He even remembers my profession, the fact I was getting married, etc. and always asks about both. My invisalign was short & sweet and when I needed more refinement (even though I really didn't want to do more) he encouraged me to continue treament & get my money's worth from Invisalign since the additional trays were no extra cost. I went to see Dr. Schwalb for an orthodontics consultation on January 21. We discussed several treatment options, including Invisalign and traditional braces. He indicated that either treatment would likely take around 8 months of work. When I asked for a price quote he told me I should receive one via email in 'a few days.' It has been 29 days and I just received my quote, which included incorrect information on the Invisalign pricing ($800 for 8 months, which is completely inaccurate) and absolutely no pricing on the traditional braces. I would not go back to this doctor based on their customer service alone - if they can't handle getting me a correct price in a timely manner, there is no chance I would trust them with my teeth. read more
