I am writing this review out of genuine disappointment and concern regarding the business practices at Central West Dentistry, as I paid for services that were not delivered as described. I returned to this practice in August 2025 specifically because of my past positive experience with Dr. Martin, who had always been sensitive to my severe dental anxiety. For my August appointment, booked for a cleaning, exam, and X-rays, I confirmed in advance that I required nitrous for the entire visit along with Valium. Instead, I was met with repeated pressure from a hygienist I had never met before about "concerns" with my teeth and gums, even though Dr. Martin had already examined me and said everything "looked good." The hygienist left mid-appointment to discuss insurance coverage with the office manager, leaving me waiting. When I asked to proceed with the cleaning I originally booked, she turned the nitrous off, switched to oxygen and I ultimately left without the full service. Because I care deeply about my dental health, I later scheduled Periodontal Scaling and Root Planing for today, the deep cleaning their hygienist recommended. I was told it would take two hours to complete all four quadrants and cost roughly $350 per quadrant. I prepaid nearly $2,000 and confirmed, in writing, that I required nitrous for the entire appointment and did not want any upsells mid appointment. Despite receiving multiple confirmations (two emails, three calls, and a text), the experience again fell far short. I flew into NYC specifically for this appointment and timed my anxiety medication with the appointment time to ensure treatment would go smoothly. When I arrived early at their request, the hygienist attempted to rush me into treatment before the nitrous had taken effect, contradicting their claim of understanding dental anxiety care. Then I was told I would receive injections to numb my entire mouth, something never mentioned during the booking process, not listed online in the procedure description, and not disclosed in any of our prior conversations. I declined and requested standard numbing gel. The "two-hour" Periodontal Scaling and Root Planing began at 4:02 pm and ended at 4:32 pm, 30 minutes total. Literally. I was then told the reason was simply, "Your teeth are in such good shape." This is especially concerning given that four months earlier, I was told (during a basic cleaning) that my gums were in such poor condition they needed to stop mid-appointment to verify insurance approval for a deep cleaning. Yet now, after paying cash upfront, all four quadrants were completed in just half an hour. It feels inconsistent at best, and at worst, like a bait-and-switch situation. I also paid $215 for nitrous oxide. Based on the photo I took, the machine displayed 60% nitrous / 30% oxygen. At no point did I feel the typical physical effects one would expect--especially when combined with a prescribed sedative. It raises the question of whether the nitrous tank was empty or improperly administered. I've had nitrous EVERY dental appointment for 20 years - i know how I'm supposed to feel, I repeatedly said nothing was coming and I was fully alert, yet another scam. To summarize, I paid nearly $2,000 for: * A two-hour Periodontal Scaling and Root Planing that lasted only 30 minutes * Four quadrants of scaling, when realistically only one or two may have been addressed * Nitrous oxide that did not appear to be delivered as represented * An exam I was told was required, yet I never saw the dentist at all. Oh and on my statement, it stated I received an Ibero scan - never happened and the receptionist said, well you weren't charged for it. LOL. I am requesting reimbursement for the nitrous charge, two of the four quadrants, and the exam fee. Patients have choices in dental care. If a practice advertises expertise in treating dental anxiety, the staff should be trained to actually deliver on that promise. Unfortunately, my experience demonstrated the opposite. read more

**My new crown fell out 2x in less than 2 months! 11-year patient** CPW's culture has always been business first, patient last. Their general demeanor is cheerful, but casual indifference. They don't understand nor care about what it's like to be a patient with them. You'll often get wrong, conflicting information about your bills and procedure costs across many staff who never seemed aligned on your procedures and statuses. They've declined fast in the last 2 years. For my last cleaning in June, I was charged for services without asking me permission leading to a surprise bill and always subjected to general pushiness around extra procedures. Recently, they urged me to get a crown - they said it was time sensitive. They never talked me through how they work with Care Credit (financing) or had a verbal conversation with me. My bill breakdown of what I owed the day I paid with Care Credit wasn't explained in context with insurance coverages/total price or given to me in a printed form - just 1 charge on the invoice. Their entire team mislead me to believe that I would get a reimbursement for a 2-part crown procedure. I chased them for 3 months only to learn that the money I had been chasing was their payment from the insurance co. not mine so they wasted my time. Then, the crown fell out after 2 days post-procedure and then again after 7 weeks after re-cementing. This required me to make 2 trips to their office which is a 40 minute commute each way for me. I had to cancel my Saturday plans abruptly on my days off to deal with it. No apology or no partial refund for any inconveniences. The Dentist essentially said the 2nd time, that he already explained cement is tricky and that this is normal for this thing to fall out and I just have to keep coming back (as if I have nothing more pressing to do than come back for on-call fix it appts.) When asking for some relief/discount for the inconvenience, I was given a letter today from the Owner that they will no longer provide services to me as a patient, which I believe is a cover your -ss letter for when this crown falls out again. The dentist was turned off that I was quiet and he was very rough in handling my mouth - I felt gagged and at times was in pain due to pulling and poking my gums with sharp tools. After all the above, are they thinking I'm going to lather them with flatteries and pleasantries? They offered me no charge for the re-cementing - did they think I would actually pay for that? Again, zero clue on patient experience. I started to realize this place wasn't for me after the 1st crown fell out and seeing the depth of dysfunction/disorganization in this office. I went to a new dentist. It turns out, my new dentist said my teeth didn't require 4 month cleanings, special floss/wash and extra deep cleanings that CPW charged me for. The patient communications were simple and clear. No upselling for sealants, implants etc. My story is not the only one here about experiences with CPW. They can't handle criticism and are really lacking in how to write and deliver effective patient communications. Had the Owner not sent me the letter today where he gaslighted and blamed me for billing confusion, I would not likely have posted this review since I wanted to forget this entire decade with them. I had good experiences with this practice a few years ago when I first started and their then staff were very attentive and informative. The experiences deteriorated over the years. Staff changed really quickly - the doctor I had for the longest was Dr. Kim. After she left, I was told that a new doctor would be seeing me each time even though I go there rather frequently - on average three times per year for cleaning. Hygienist today was not as attentive or meticulous as the ones I saw originally - like Yasmin and later Gabriel. The new doctor showed up today and told me that there's no record of my implant in my files which was surprising. I'm not sure what's happening here but it feels like chaos. read more

I came to this emergency dental office to have a temporary glued back together. It was supposed to be an easy appointment. I was willing to pay the high price because I had a work event. It was not easy, and the price more than tripled after I was already numb and in the chair. They used too much Novocain and charged me $900 to make a new TEMPORARY piece. The only reason I came to this dentist was to go to the work event. I was told that if anything happened they were always open so I did not have to worry. Nothing was true. The registrar was very helpful fitting me in for an emergency visit and checking my ins. status. Dr Piamonte was very gracious and efficient and I was out in a short time. This place is the best! I was so happy with my trip to the dentist that I said to myself... "I am actually looking forward to my next visit..." I must admit that I had not been to the dentist for a while and knew that I was going to be in for a fair amount of work. I was initially greeted by Malorie at the front desk. Her smile and pleasant disposition made me feel comfortable right from the beginning. The work started with a complete cleaning and eventually moved to a different room for some extractions (that's right, more than one.) The hygienist, Diane was so thorough and while she had a bit more to do than one would hope for, I never felt uncomfortable or wanting to "get this over with." After the digital x-rays (which by the way had me in awe,) she went through my mouth and cleaned, and cleaned and then cleaned some more. The assistant, Luis would keep the suction going so she never had to stop and restart. The idea of the hygienist assistant was another thing I had never seen before. I am certain that I would never go back to the old way... My mouth felt wonderful when she was completed and I never felt any... (THAT'S RIGHT...ANY) discomfort. After Dr. Winokur reviewed the x-rays and made the suggestions we got started. To begin with, four teeth had to go.... I'll spare you all the details about pulling teeth, some which were broken and let you know that I NEVER... NEVER felt any pain or unusual discomfort. How did you do that??? This dentist is the answer to your prayers and feeling good about major dental work. I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Winokur for his skills and patient care... I woke up the following morning feeling great!!! I am not sure how pulling teeth can have such an effect on my mood but wow.... There is more to go and I am looking forward to seeing the end results. Amazing dental practice that really cares!!! I had a dental emergency after getting something stuck between my teeth and it was causing me immense pain. They graciously accommodated me last minute despite a packed schedule and it being the end of the day. Williannette at the front desk was very communicative and kind, and Dr. Kopp and Caitlin were able to thoroughly diagnose the problem and get the food out. Agree with other reviews--this place is a scam. Last fall I got a new job and had to get a new dentist, so I tried Central Park west dentistry. The dentist told me immediately I needed at least two cavities filled and basically forced me to buy cavity toothpaste. They quote for the two cavities was almost $500 even with insurance. I have only had one cavity my entire life and my precious dentist said my teeth were excellent so I was a little surprised. They then tried to seek me Sealence and kept going even after I said my insurance doesn't cover it. They pushed me to make an appointment for the cavities very hard. I ended up going to a new dentist 6 months later who confirmed I never had two cavities that needed to be filled and joked that "I'd own a boat if I convinced everyone to get two cavities filled". Safe to say this office is not trustworthy and I wouldn't waste my time. read more

They do good work I think but they are very expensive. I just spent $6,000 in 6 weeks for 2 crowns, filling 1 cavity and a gum treatment. And now they want to charge approximately $2,000 (they didn't give me an exact price) to fill 2 more cavities, bond a chipped tooth and to take out a wisdom tooth (which is classed as an "easy" extraction) but after spending $6K I think I'll have to wait until they hurt. I went to a dentist a year ago and got X-rays and he didn't mention all these cavities but I'm not sure he was looking for them because I needed a root canal and maybe he was just focused on that. I don't think they would fill teeth that don't really have cavities but when I say "show me the cavity" they can only point to some x-rays with some cloudy areas which I naturally can't evaluate so who knows? Anyway, it's frustrating that the whole dentistry thing is so difficult to price out. Apparently there's no way to get "average" prices for certain procedures in order to know if you're paying too much. For instance an extraction can either be "easy" or "impacted" which would be priced differently depending on difficulty. Also, pricing would have to take into consideration the skill of the dentist, the rent of their office, the age of their equipment, etc. I might go to another dentist for a second opinion but it's at least $250 to get full X-rays AGAIN (why don't I own my X-rays like I do when I go to a doctor?) in order to comparison shop. But I'm still in sticker shock so I'm not ready to spend $250 for potentially nothing so I'm just in a holding pattern. **SIGH** read more

I have been to the other location and saw Dr. Oh and had a great experience. I had an emergency last night and was able to be seen first thing this morning with Dr. Piamonte. He and the hygienist, Linda, were so kind and funny. I had two fillings that were quick and painless. Even hours after the anesthesia has worn off. Malorie at the front desk was very helpful in terms of finances and everyone in the office was so pleasant. I can't recommend either location enough. Both times I have gone in have been for emergency appointments: once with insurance and once without and both times I was made clear of my responsibility and my options so there were absolutely no surprises read more

The front office of CPW Dentistry was one of the rudest and worst that I have encountered. Due to COVID traffics has increased, I was five minutes late but had called. I was greeted by an irritated front desk person. Asked for forms which I had submitted electronically to their portal. This woman's response was yeah no, implying that I was lying. I was going to walk out but the oral surgeon was highly recommended. Filled out the forms and was called in by an assistant who proceeded to shame me for being 20 mins late and criticized me for not doing the forms electronically. I was stunned by these rude women who were scolding me. I apparently screwed up their schedule and have inconvenienced the dentists. The oral surgeon was lovely. Front desk woman was polite and eager to make an appointment but I wanted an estimate and timeline, which I feel is a normal request. Resisted, asked that I call with my insurance information and they would email the estimate. Got home, called and the answering service who I had been speaking with said the portal is new software and this was happening to other patients. I waited two days for the estimate and called again. Spoke to another person who could not believe that no estimate was sent, said the same day or next. Two weeks and still waiting so called the office today and that front desk person answered. She went down the path of assuming that I had not called with insurance information but stopped when she realized that it was their fault and continued to ask if I was confirming the appointment. No, not without an estimate. She said she would let the team know. No apology. No, I rudely hung up on her. No one needs to be treated with such disrespect. Dental care is expensive, the front office represents the dentists who employ them. This front office and dental assistant were rude and off putting. Do not go here! Scammers. I wish I had read reviews before I went the first time. My first couple times there it was fine, but then I switched jobs and insurance plans. Before I went, I submitted my new insurance. When I showed up I gave them my new insurance card. They're like "great, thanks". All was fine until AFTER my cleaning and I went to check out, and they said "Oh yeah, we didn't tell you before the cleaning, but we don't take that insurance. Their focus has been on preventive dentistry, and my sessions with the hygienist Gabriel have been a great experience. He has given my teeth the most thorough cleanings I've ever had. Recently Dr. Winokur gave me a very subtle teeth enhancement that involved filing down my front teeth. It was pain-free, comfortable, quick, and he did a great job. I noticed the difference and I am very happy with the procedure. I've been getting my teeth cleaned at CPW Dentistry now since 2011 and it's always a pleasant experience - the staff is always warm and outgoing, and the dentists and their assistants really make you comfortable. I've been a patient of CPW dentistry on and off for a few years now. I've always been happy with their work but their pricing structure is very excessive. As well all know, when the dental hygienist finishes your cleaning, the dentist comes in, looks at your x-rays (images) and determines the work you need going forward. This past Saturday (4/30/22) I had my cleaning, the hygienist said she identified a tooth that the dentist should come in and look at, I said sure. Before the dentist came in the receptionist came in and said, "your billing for today will be $215 for the cleaning (would have been more but used my old images from the last cleaning) and $240 to see the dentist. I asked her why would I pay $240 to see the dentist when I'm going to do the work with you. She said, "how do you expect the dentist to make a living", my response... from the work he's going to do, not from looking at a bad tooth. So, four months ago was my last cleaning, they did a bunch of x-rays along with the dentists evaluation, now I know why my cleaning was $700. They asked me to see an in-house oral surgeon to discuss a molar that seems to have an issue. I never went on this appointment because they required a $250 fee for the consultation. When I raised the issue a few days later asking why is there a $250 consult fee since I'm an existing patient going in-house, their answer was, sorry, we made a mistake its $125. I've lived in Manhattan my whole life and understand that your going to pay a premium living here but CPW's Dentistry pricing structure is completely out of line, please beware of this business. read more

My first time experience at CPW was amazing! Jihan took care of me well and made sure that I had a great time (even though visiting the Dentist isn't always a "great time"). After a slightly rocky visit a few months ago, I am gobsmacked to say the customer service team reached out to me directly, asked for specific feedback about what "went wrong" at my visit, and without pressure offered me the opportunity to have my teeth fully serviced by their dental team. They did not disappoint! My experience with Dr Piomonte and his associate Tatiana could not have been more pleasant, personal and frankly SPA like. I found Central Park West Dentistry when I had an emergency and needed an appointment as soon as I could get one. Dr. Kuller had an available time. He extracted a tooth and it was difficult. He explained the challenges and took care of them. He worked hard and he worked well. I am grateful I found the practice and he had time to see me. Then things got even better. When it came time to have more routine work done, I shifted to Dr. Martin. She is fabulous. She is no doubt the best dentist I have seen as an adult and there have been a few. Dr. Martin is gentle and patient and kind. She was attentive - explaining what she was going to do, asking if I had questions, answering what I asked clearly, and continually checking on me. The hygienists are equally fine. AJ worked with Dr. Martin the last two times I was there. Her caring approach helped put me at ease. Other hygienists have been outstanding as well. Finally - the front office staff are amazing. Again they are kind, welcoming, and gracious. I highly recommend Central Park West Dentistry. If you have a choice - ask for Dr. Martin! read more
