Buffalo mac and cheese fries. GIMME.
    Jessica G.

This is not a mind-blowing concept for a food truck. Vegan mac and cheese food trucks are a dime a dozen, it seems. What Roni Macaroni does right are the FRIES. Oh my goodness. Talk about carb heaven! Carbs on carbs?! HECK YEAH. GIVE IT TO ME. The buffalo mac and cheese fries are life. I don't even really like mac and cheese...and I like this. SO GOOD.

My friend & I checked out the Roni Macaroni food truck in Granada Hills. We were a little full, so we opted to share a Steak Mac & Cheese. It was a good size to share, but a little pricy at almost $8, considering the portion size. The top layer had breadcrumbs on it, which was a nice touch. The crunch was perfect.

This place is known for their out of the box Mac and cheese flavors. I was fortunate enough to try their hot Cheeto Mac and cheese at First Fridays in Venice Beach. It. Was. Unreal. As a hot Cheeto enthusiast I couldn't have been happier. It gives a little crunch to an already delicious Mac and cheese. I would recommend getting the small size because it is very rich.

Pulled pork and mac sandwich with fries. Sandwich wasn't cut through all the way, so the second half was a little messed up.

Nothing to brag about and not worth the price. We saw the food truck in LA in Grand Park yesterday. I spent almost $60 to feed me and my four children without buying drinks. We had bacon mac, two Roni burgers, hot dog mac, and a pulled pork sandwich. My pulled pork sandwich was good, but overall the mac and cheese was bland. The fries were good for straight, normal fries. If I see this food truck again, I will go somewhere else to eat.

I bought this LA street something macaroni on the First Friday event at Abbot Kinney. One bowl costed only 1 dollar using Apply pay. I am not a big fan of Mac and cheese but Roni Macaroni is worth a try, considering its low price. I finished the whole bowl ;p

The drinks looked good but I decided to save some calories and just had a glass of water. For food I started with clam chowder. I'm thinking it was a special since it was on a piece of paper on the table. It came in a bread bowl...it had lots or clams, bacon and potatoes. It was delicious. It could have been a meal with a small salad. So for my entree I had the lobster Mac and cheese. It was good as a well. Ooey gooey and seasoned nicely. I was almost full from the chowder so only at about 1/3 of it but would definitely recommend. It was my first time coming here and I'd definitely return.

Service - 5/10 I'm not sure if they were just so understaffed or what was going on. Food took forever to come out & it seemed as if there was only 1 waiter for the entire restaurant. She also had an ugly attitude. Price - 2/10 Honestly for pub food, it's way too overpriced. You're paying West Hollywood prices in the valley, probably more. I hate that each sandwich/burger is $15+ à la carte. Ridiculous! Cocktails - 2/10 Ordered an old fashioned multiple times & each time it was too heavy on the bitters. Gross! Ambiance - 6/10 It's a cool dive bar feel but the TV sound could've been on for the ball game. OVERALL - 6/10 It's way too overpriced to even want to come back. The food is mid, and just not worth the price. The beer options also are not it. Cocktails aren't great either. Probably wouldn't come back.

($18 - Hangar 1 Mandarin Blossom Vodka, cold-pressed pineapple juice, fresh raspberry purée, lime juice fresh mint topper). I'm not a big drinker and am a fan of drinks that you can't really taste the alcohol and this was great. It was a fun to drink and was refreshing. For our entree my friend had the Fish & Chips. ($27 - Crispy haddock fillet, sea salt fries, tartar sauce, grilled lemon). I tried a piece of her fish and it was thinly battered, soft, and flavorful. I usually try to stay away from fried fish like this just because places use way too much better or the fish gets super oily but they was not the case with their fish & chips. You can tell they use quality ingredients. I had the 4 piece Spicy Tuna on Crispy Rice. ($34 - Fresh ahi, dynamite sauce, wasabi tobiko, togarashi, toasted sesame). Oh my goodness was this delicious. This is usually something you'd eat as an appetizer but eating it alone is a meal in itself. Yes, it's pricey BUT it is totally worth it. Saint & Second is an upscale dining experience. Their food delivers to that level as well. I highly recommend if you're looking for a new date night spot or something intimate with friends. You can really taste the freshness of all the ingredients they use.

However, in my two most recent visits, only the atmosphere has remained a highlight -- the service has declined significantly. My most recent visit was two nights ago, on Father's Day, for a celebratory dinner. Our server was curt and unwelcoming throughout the meal. When my glass of wine arrived, the server suggested I taste it first -- which I did -- and it was immediately apparent that the wine had turned. Having ordered the same wine many times before without issue, I was confident this particular bottle was off. When I asked our server if the bartender could open a fresh bottle, she agreed without hesitation. However, moments later, a gentleman I assumed to be the manager approached and informed me that a new bottle would not be opened, as the current one had only been opened the day before and was, in his opinion, fine. His only alternative was to offer the same varietal at a higher price point. I understand that restaurants may have policies regarding open bottles, but in all my years of dining out, I have never encountered an establishment that refused to replace a glass of wine a guest found unacceptable -- especially when the server herself had encouraged me to taste it for that very reason. This experience left a lasting negative impression, and unfortunately I will neither return nor recommend this restaurant going forward.

I've had oyster shooters before and loved them but didn't like their take on it here. Way too much horseradish and the vodka portion was way off (too little vodka) and unbalanced. Oysters Rockefeller - 4 1/2 stars. Quite meaty and delicious, such a great flavor and take on this classic dish. Crab Cake - 4 stars. Quite the large portion, and quite good! Miso Chilean Seabass - 5 stars. This was excellent! It was cooked perfectly with a delicious miso sauce, served with a tasty jasmine rice and steamed spinach. Short Rib w mashed potatoes - 5 stars. No notes! The meat was soft, tender, and rich and flavor and the potatoes were also excellent. Our waitress (who was fabulous) brought out an ice cream Sunday to celebrate the birthday occasion and I have to say it was also fabulous! The famed lobster appetizer was not for us. Bits of lobster floating in a lot of butter didn't excite us. Excellent salads. The other appetizers however, were excellent. We've been twice now had had a lot of their menu. The pork was outstanding. The rack was very good, but I've had even better racks elsewhere. The "famous" banana cream pie was good, not great, but so huge and rich it must be shared. At $30, it's maybe also a tad overpriced. The bar makes a healthy-sized martini that's worth its high-end price tag. Great wine list with wonderful advice and good-sized sample pours, even though I only drink one glass and my husband doesn't drink at all. This is a good place to splurge on a good wine. I've mentioned the above-par service. Informative and cheery, without trying to become your best friend. They went out of their way to assure us a table in a very quiet spot, due to my deafness. Very attentive without being overbearing. Their suggestions seem honest, rather than just trying to upsell everything. The place is huge and gorgeous. Flatteringly, if dimly, lit, it lends itself to romantic dinners and anniversaries. In our case, we like to have a rather luxurious and romantic and lengthy meal perhaps once a month, and feel very fortunate to be able to do so. It's divided into several smallish areas and the effect is rather cozy and intimate. It's chic and stylish, so PLEASE folks, dress for it? It especially saddens me to see a nicely dressed young woman, who obviously spent some time on herself beforehand, with a guy ( I'll guess her husband ), in shorts and a tee shirt. I say, for a place like this, where you could easily spend four bills on a good meal for two, with drinks, management, bring back a dress policy! And enforce it with a reminder email they you do so. Is a collared shirt and a pressed pair of khakis too much to ask for?

There's music that's lively without being overbearing, and the staff is uniformly friendly. But... You have to order at the bar and, though they have runners to bring your food, you do have to hunt them down for anything after the delivery (extra ketchup, etc). While this isn't my favorite system at my age, to be fair, whatever the owners are saving on staff is reflected in the prices, which are absolutely below most places in the area for food that is good-quality and drinks that are generously poured. So yes, my wife's Espresso Martini was served in a deep-bellied Belgium beer glass, and my whiskey neat was a hefty pour. Yay!! For food, I ordered the Smash Burger, which is served with melted American, grilled onions and the house version of Russian dressing (as well as pickles, which I deleted). The burgers had a nice, smashed crust while remaining juicy, the cheese was properly melted, and the grilled onions had a terrific caramelized sweetness, while the house sauce was very well-balanced: ketchupy and creamy without being too mayonnaise-heavy. A very good smasher. My wife ordered the Big Texan Burger because she wanted cheddar and frizzled onions and BBQ sauce, though she deleted the bacon and pork belly that are normally included. This, too, was a very good burger: cooked to a proper and pleasing medium-rare and well-seasoned, with a good, fresh flavor to the beef. The onion rings were less successful, which are of the beer batter type, but seemed to be a commercial, frozen product. The coating was browned but not crisp, and the flavor was relatively nondescript. We didn't really eat them, and wouldn't order them again. And so, to me, The Tipsy Cow is a bit of a mixed bag: reasonably priced decent food and reasonably priced, generously-poured drinks -- but in a mostly self-serve environment that incrementally loses its appeal in relation to your age and your dining circumstances. Certainly worth a try, but you've gotta be in the right mood.
