This was our final stop before camping at Big Basin and we came in on my birthday for a few more snacks and supplies. Realizing we'd forgotten our stove, we were happy to buy propane ($5.99) to contribute to someone else's stove. We also bought some rolls ($4.19), a bunch of celery ($0.99) that ended up being almost inedible (very bitter and soft), 2L Diet DrPepper ($2.19), bbq sauce ($2.39), jar of cherry peppers $1.99, a little ice ($1.89), a $20 tri-tip, and a bottle of chilled Barefoot champagne ($7.99). We stood in one line and the woman in front of us had accidentally broken the lid of her dish soap. A big soapy mess was on the floor and I stepped in it. The cashier slowly turned to put the lid back on, then walked away to do who knows what? I found another employee walking by and alerted them to the hazard. Seriously, a big pile of soapy mess on the floor - that's dangerous! At this point since cashier #1 hadn't returned, we switched to Ashlee's checkstand where she was a little more friendly and worked more efficiently than the other woman. As she rang up our items she spoke with another female employee with a snakebite piercing, who literally just stood there and chatted instead of bagging the items. So I bagged up all of our purchases while they hung out and we left feeling generally confused that there was no manager around to take note of everything going on. PS - I'm 34 and my husband's 32 - we certainly don't look 21 but most grocery stores have pretty strict policies about ID-ing people purchasing alcohol - no matter how old they look. You'd think a smaller store like this would especially care; but we weren't ID-ed.

Flies in the meat. Absolutely foul.

Love the pulled pork and brisket sandwiches. Meat market has good selection and make great sausage.

At work a stranger gave me one of their sandwiches from 3 day prior, and it was STILL bomb.

All groceries have similar food, but this place offers a calm and pleasant shopping experience, and a great deli/butcher counter.

The meat department was ALWAYS good, but when Ron took over, things only got better.

I was there last time for their freshly cooked paella and it was impeccable. Recently we came back…read moretwice, once on Sunday as I forgot that the paella was a Friday thing, so the staff told me that they usually have paella and clam chowder freshly cooked on Friday. They happened to have a small tub of Friday clam chowder left for sale, for a whopping $16! That price dropped my rating to a 4 star. Service is still 5, but man, the value proposition isn't as high as before. The clam chowder tasted good, creamy and all, but $16 for that is really hard to swallow. The store itself is clean and sells a variety of meat products and imported goods such as from Italy. We came again on Friday evening, at 5pm exact and saw the paella pan laid outside with some amount of paella piled up. The pan felt cold and we were confused if they haven't started cooking or those were the left over. So we went inside to ask and they said the paella was available starting at 5pm, so what's on the pan was cooked. We bought 1 portion, which feeds 2-3 and it came in two 16 oz tubs. For $35, it fed my husband and myself just right. The smoky flavor was on the rice with meat and lots of clams and mussels (but not those fatty mussels that you saw in the Belgium style dish). $35 for dinner of two is not as bad value as the $16 bowl of chowder. So overall, 3.5-4 stars for food and value, 5 stars for service and friendliness.

Pretty unique flavors that aren't that easy to find elsewhere. It's right next to Johnnie's Super, so you can park your car in either location and check out both stores at the same time. Pretty convenient! Honestly, almost everything in the town of Boulder Creek is all in that one clump. You could totally grab a drink at Wild Roots or Johnnie's and sip away while checking out antiques at Boulder Creek Antiques nearby. Wild Roots does seem to be a chain as I noticed another one in neighboring Felton. For me personally that's not an issue but if you're a stickler for "local" local then you might want to try other stores.

Treating customers like this will not generate income and if the guy wasn't so aggressive and almost starting a fight I'd be reporting him to management. I definitely wouldn't come here again and absolutely shouldn't be worried about someone trying to start a fight while browsing in a grocery store.
