    Tri tip sandwich

Great service, hearty sandwiches. To go or outside seating. Some handmade jewelry and cards. Meats and drinks.

Cute little deli/meat shop - Lots of beverage options, good selection of chips, and some local goods. I got the hot bird which had turkey, cheese, roasted red peppers and some kind of aioli on sourdough. It was simple but delicious. Service was very friendly and quick. I think I will be back to check out some of the marinated meats and sausage! Although the picture isn't exciting, I wanted to include it because the price felt high for the size/amount of meat (over $18 for chips + sandwich).

We drove by and noticed this cute little deli shop. The service is fast and friendly. The sandwiches were delicious! They also sell marinated meats and sausage. We picked up a couple packages of cheesy bavarians - my favorite!!!!

    Tri-tip sandwich.

The storefront was welcoming. Our service was friendly. The inside was immaculate and organized. The turkey sandwich was underwhelming. There wasn't enough meat, four thick apple slices, and too much Dijon mustard. The Dijon overpowered the flavor of the meat and cheese. Just a recommendation...maybe a sweet sauce like an aioli. The tri-tip sandwich had a lot of meat. The bun needed to be warmed up and barbecue sauce wasn't offered. I see a lot of potential with this little deli. Freedom Locker meats are sold here. This is a perfect start.

The tri-tip sandwich is brilliant. Definitely a new approach to the tri-tip I'm used to and ridiculously good.

Restaurant has both indoor seating with high and low tables, and outdoor patio seating. Small parking lot. I can imagine this is popular spot in evenings and weekends. We shared: Sampa explosion sampler - pao de queijo, coxinha and croquette. Picanha with salad - #1 recommendation from server. It was delicious juicy steak, 12oz serving is enough to split for 2. Comes with the breaded yucca crumbs which provides little extra crunch. Food tasted fresh. Comes with a bean stew which we tried but not huge fan of. Chicken Paulista - DH thought it was okay, nothing special. Parfait de crema - very sweet, rich and creamy. I was so full after.

We also ordered the picanha (steak soft like butter, came with rice, black bean soup with sausages, and french fries or salad choice) and carne louca (shredded tri tip with smoked sausage, rice, black bean soup, and french fries or salad) both of which were amazing!! We would definitely come back when we are in town.

Located in the east side of Santa Cruz, there is a coastal vibe in the area that lies flat. Don't be fooled by the maps because there is plenty of parking behind the restaurant. We advise to make reservations as it gets booked quickly. We made reservations about a month in advance. The staff were welcoming and accommodating. We came an hour early and they were able to get us to the available seating right away. You'll notice some vintage photos of people enjoying the restaurant many decades ago. With jazzy music in the background and a friendly atmosphere, I knew this was a good spot to choose. There's a variety of pastas you can get. I got the spaghetti pomodoro with chicken. Chicken and other meats have an additional cost, but they are so worth it. The spaghetti I had was chewy, fine, and tasty. I've never had anything like this before in Santa Cruz. The restaurant has a bar setting for those who want to casually take a sip. This is a great place to go on a date or celebrate for a birthday. I would 100% recommend.

Yes, they have gas and a car wash, but that is just the beginning. Inside, there is a gourmet kitchen serving up locally harvested seafood and Harris Ranch meats. The burger here is hands down one of the best in the county. It is technically fast food, but nothing like what you would expect from that term. AJ's goes way beyond typical gas station fare. You will find organic produce and treats from around the world like English biscuits, real maple syrup, and a Southeast Asian spice rack. They also offer an impressive selection of local wines, baked goods, ice creams, and coffees. Owner Akhtar Javed, originally from Pakistan, opened the market in 1987 after falling in love with Santa Cruz. He became a local legend after the 1989 Loma Prieta Earthquake when he let customers take what they needed and pay later during the power outage. AJ's Market is a true gem and worth the stop whether you need gas or not. P.S. AJ also carries dried cuttlefish so you don't have to travel to San Jose or find a Ranch 99. P.P.S. In addition to the coffee station, they also had a full cooler of Marianne's Ice Cream!
