Love the friendly service and so convenient and close in the small town of Boulder Creek.

I liked this little supermarket (would hesitate to call it a proper supermarket but I'll respect their own naming convention) quite a bit! In particular, they had the Vita Coco Pressed Coconut Beverage which I like better than regular coconut water because they blend additional coconut meat into the drink which enhances the creaminess and overall taste. It was really affordable at $2.99 for 16.9 oz. Normally I see the same product reaching $4 or more at other stores. I would imagine it's not that easy to drive Hwy 9 to get down here, so I'm not sure how they're able to sell it for that cheap, but the product tasted fine and was well before expiry. Perhaps the rent is just much cheaper for stores there? I would most definitely stop by again the next time I'm on Hwy 9 for a quick snack and drink combo! read more

What a gem of a local grocery store . The deli / meats are wonderful . We met the butcher "Larry" and he raved about the "Medusa" sandwich with brisket , pastrami , peppercini, provolone or jack cheese and some special sriracha sauce . The Dutch crunch roll was soft and the sandwich out of this world . The locals all know this to go deli in the back and now you do too! Thanks Larry! read more

I only shop at Johnnie's to pick up a few things or as a last resort. The store is limited in their inventory. Johnnie's Supermarket is like a large convenience store, nothing else. The prices are high, the food quality as far as the hot food in the back is marginal at best. The employees are not friendly. If you do not have your own bag, they will charge you fifty cents for a brown paper bag. This is the most expensive of any supermarket in the local area. The only redeeming factor is their fruit is some of the best even better than the large chains. Johnnies can do much better. read more

Johnnie's is a great little spot in Boulder Creek. I live right up the road so it's very convenient, and my choices are Johnnie's or Wild Roots if I don't feel like driving for 45 minutes. Johnnie's has the ambience of a mountain store; it reminds me a lot of supermarkets in Juneau, Alaska when I lived there. It's got the necessities, some things are a little more expensive than in more populated areas, but that's the trade-off for living in such a beautiful, remote spot. Between Wild Roots and Johnnie's, you'll find everything you need according to your tastes. It seems like some people wrote some reviews ~2023 that aren't so favorable, but I have to say that if they were expecting something like Sprouts or another upscale, mostly fake "organic" store like Whole Foods, of course they have issues. Maybe they should save their shopping for their Palo Alto or Woodside or any other of the techigentrified areas. Johnnie's will have what you need, not only basics, but also a great deli section. My only complaint is that they don't stock Tony's Chocolonely bars, which are my guilty pleasure. But, being from Pennsylvania, Hershey's chocolate is absolutely fine! I'm not sure what the complaints about the staff or customer service are all about; every time I go there the cashiers are friendly and chatty, the deli staff are accommodating and friendly, I never feel like an alien like I do in some of the other shops around BC. I'm not going to lie, I try to shop all organic and go to Costco a lot. Johnnies is a solid store. A store I don't feel like I have to dress up for. The first purchase I ever made was at johnnies. My only complaint is that they bring back the kids toys at the checkout. read more

Their sandwiches are amazing, not inexpensive. I would say, but they are generous with the ingredients and they are very flavorful and fresh. Friendly service in a classic mountain market atmosphere. With my son moving into Boulder Creek I will certainly be visiting this place again. read more

Very good BBQ plates in the deli. I got the double meat with brisket and pulled pork along with sides of beans and mac & cheese. They provided both regular and spicy BBQ sauce. After a long cycling ride up to Skyline and then down into Boulder Creek, this is exactly what I needed. read more

I left Boulder Creek a year ago and went to Texas, what a mistake I made. The state sucks, the vegetables suck, the weather sucks. I miss going to Johnny's it was close to my house on Irwin Way. Great store and deli. Don't take your life there for granted, enjoy you are very fortunate. read more

If I could rate it a negative I would. I understand small markets that own independently have different standards than bigger corporations and they deal with different things. But the customer service and attitude of these workers (ALL AROUND) is the WORST thing that I have ever encountered. I'm not bullshitting either. A true gem tucked away in Boulder Creek. The staff is always helpful and friendly. A nice selection of sausages that rotate so you have different kinds on different days. Have had seven different ones so far and they are great. I enjoy the chicken and waffle one the most so far. The sandwiches in the back are great and a good value. I had shopped at Johnnie's many times in the 16yrs I lived in Boulder Creek. The staff was usually pretty nice, not always with it, but nice. My last experience at Johnnies was horrendous. Just after one of the staff members walked past me my foot hit a puddle of water and on the floor in the very space the employee has just walked. My feet flew out from under me and I land hard on the floor with my hands taking the brunt of the fall. I hit so hard that tears came. My fingers and elbow were throbbing, my elbow raw from where it hit something, my tail bone painful, my groceries scattered everywhere and I'm stunned. Three fellow shoppers ask if I'm OK. One asks if I want ice. As I sit on the floor waiting for ice, not one employee comes to see if I'm OK. Eventually someone comes with a bag of ice and DROPS it next to me on the floor. No offer to help me, just a bag of ice and an excuse that "customers don't tell us when there's water on the floor and this is what happens". Really? This is what happens when a customer slips in your store due to your negligence, you lay blame on someone else? You don't ask if they are OK, you don't ask if you can help, you don't help them stand-up or help pick-up the groceries that dropped when they fell, you just drop a bag of ice and walk away. Shocking. The manager on staff eventually comes out after I manage to get up and walk over to the cash register and ask for him. He tells me they will pay for my doctors visit to make sure I'm OK. Later he tells me he's not authorized to say this! Instead he asks for my name and number and tells me someone will follow up with me tomorrow. No one ever follows up. I have to call the store multiple times before I get anyone to talk to me only for them to give me the number of their insurance company. Those people are even worse. The end result I end up paying for my medical bills myself. I work as both a writer and potter. My hands were so badly damaged I lost my current contract and am unable to work in clay years due to the pain I still get when I attempt to wedge clay, or throw on the wheel. I will NEVER set foot in this store again and encourage others to shop elsewhere. It's a shame Yelp forces you to choose a star rating, this store deserves none. read more

Bought 6 rolls of toilet paper on the 22nd of March during the big storm with Hwy 9 being closed. As usual with Jonnie's, I soai "no receipt required". We amazed to see that the six rolls of Charmin cost me $28.00 ! I think that is priced a little HIGH, don't you? Price gouging at it's best. OMG I've been shopping here for almost 10 years now. Recently as of March April of 2023 they seem to have made a change in mgmt or ownership. So, I hate to give bad reviews. Most of the market is fine, and the floor employees are keeping social distancing during the pandemic, and helping to enforce it with some of the more difficult customers. The meat department... Yeah, I normally love the meat section of Johnny's. But, sanitation has been suffering. You've got one employee who doesn't wear his mask, has it dangling half off of his face. He regularly rubs his face, and doesn't wear gloves half the time. When I said, "no thanks, I'll wait for the other person", pointing at the other employee who was keeping hygiene/masking/gloves, the problem person got aggressive and pissy. Just seems to be one of those large people who are used to cowing everyone around him. read more

The deli counter has not improved in its attitude, after a few return trips. The general view is that the locals are great and everyone else is an inconvenience. Rude, grumpy, and not worth my time: look elsewhere for meats and sandwiches. read more

Fantastic BBQ And meat counter, Fresh sausage in a variety of flavors to choose from made daily

I thought that Johnnie's market had turned the corner. The meat counter and deli had been cleaned up and apparently a new meat manager is in charge. Today (Mid Corona pandemic) I visited to get some meat for the week and was completely disgusted. Three guys hanging behind the counter looked like they had just come from cutting firewood in the forest. Raggedy shirts, long unkempt beards, no hair covers, toothless grins, and political complaints. This is not the kind environment that is inspiring for raw meat and sausage purchases, even during shortages and a national emergency. I will pass and choose to go elsewhere. read more

So disappointed, I just ordered a Swiss cheese, tomato and Avocado sandwich , no meat. $8!!! And there wasn't even 1 whole slice of Swiss in there... avocado was off also. It's always when the guy is working the sandwich counter this happens, the woman usually gets it right. read more

I like this market for the convenience. Other than that I would probably not shop here. The vegetables are always going bad and never fresh. The deli is great- they make awesome sandwiches, full of meat and veggies for a great price. The meat department is also great!!! My FAVORITE is the breakfast burritos, made fresh at the deli in the morning. My friend got me into the breakfast burrito with Buffalo Cheese, Jalapeños and Onions added. The customer service is hit or miss. The gal with long grey hair who works the register and has been for years is not friendly and so awkward to deal with!!! Why is she still here? I'd rather stand in a long line than have her help me and not say a word. If I am feeling ornery I will go to her line just to ask her 10 questions to get some response. Still awkward! read more

Talk about a gross environment to purchase your food! Looks like the floors are cleaned once a year, flies in the meat case, shelves are poorly stocked. The cashier rude, ignored me through the entire transaction (literally not a single word, not even a "Hello") and made me bag my own groceries. I used to frequent this store but it seems to have gone way down hill since the beginning of the year. One particular employee in the meat department, older gentleman that looked like a biker, was voicing his political opinions loudly, cursing and arguing with another employee while I was shopping with my son. Overall very bad experience, will be doing my shopping across the street from here on out. Whoever took over the store really needs to get it together. read more
