I'm sure this review will be met with the toxic positivity about how great they are (or maybe more threating exchanges from Ron) but this was my most recent (and last) experience. I ordered a burger with bacon and onion rings with their dipping sauce. Have eaten it for years. But suddenly, had an allergic reaction (my first ever). I saw an allergist who suggested I ask what was in what I ate, so I asked about the ingredients of two products, their bacon and a dipping sauce as they seemed the most likely potential culprits. I got a response from the marketing manager who said Ron's hasn't changed the recipe for the sauce in years. Great! That wasn't what I asked nor did it help. In reference to the bacon, I got it's "high quality, all natural, nitrite free bacon with no added colors, flavors, fillers, etc." OK, that's what it's NOT - I asked what it IS. She deflects and puts it on me, "Do you have any known allergies?" I replied that I didn't have any allergies, specifically said that bodies change over time (so the fact that the recipe didn't change was irrelevant), and asked for more detail to guide me (and my doctor). Sixteen days later, no response to my request for more detail. They 'say' they want to help, but that's not how they behaved. After the 16 days I emailed how unhelpful the email exchange was. That "we use all natural" ingredients wasn't helpful as people are allergic to natural ingredients all the time; wheat, nuts, eggs, heck people are allergic to tree bark and grass. I said her response, followed by silence, came across as if Ron's was hiding something. That's how going silent always lands, either as 'we don't care' or 'we're not telling you'. I concluded it by saying I hadn't been back since and it was unlikely I'd be back again. Ron himself did not like what I said and emailed me personally to tell me I was being "nasty". No, I was being honest and giving his restaurant feedback that their response alienated a customer and ended a year's long customer relationship. If they're not willing to tell me what's in the two items beyond "natural" and they haven't changed either in years, I can't risk being exposed again. But good for them for managing to dodge the supply chain issues the rest of the world has faced the last few years. Everything just kept on flowing into Ron's, no changes whatsoever. I stood my ground and FOUR email exchanges later, Ron calls me more names and throws in some swearing. See part of his response in the image attached. He doesn't think much of other local restaurateurs. The marketing rhetoric, the defensiveness, the name calling, the cursing. I know I felt both valued and their deep dedication to what I was putting in my body. He shared the ingredients listed on the bacon, but never the sauce. The whole exchange was a master class in alienating a customer over what should have been a simple 'asked and answered' inquiry. I told him he was being ridiculous, that he was assigning emotion to my notes that didn't exist, and I called it a day. read more

Ron's is great. His philosophy of simple unpretentious food done right should be the guide for others. He sources fresh ingredients, not dumb farm to table nonsense, but fresh food prepped in house, not the same frozen Cisco/US Foods dreck that other mid level places foist upon you. Really cool spot for a casual meal or a few drinks. The beer selection here is enormous! Pretty much everything you could ask for. I've eaten lunch and dinner here numerous times and everything has always been fresh and very delicious. I appreciate that they use REAL jalapenos in their dishes which is key. The ovals are a nice treat - especially when they're buy one get one free. Staff has always been very helpful and friendly. This spot is high on my list when I'm in the area. read more

I had the italian hoagie, and it was top notch! It is a very consistent item on their menu. Otherwise, they are a scratch made place down to the salad dressing and chicken tenders. We liked it. I was with Amigo Dan and younger daughter Karly. We got the Kennett Square cheese steak. If you know the area, yes that is the mushroom cheesesteak. I think I forgot to order fried onions. We definitely liked it. Good amount of good meat. The roll, it was a high end/Exton roll but not a roll I like for a cheesesteak. Great meal! The special hoagie with Italian meats, peppers, Kalamata olives, and all the fixings was huge and delicious. We also had the crab dip listed as a special, it was full of crab and the two of us were stuffed after both! Just because the owner of Ron's Schoolhouse hand writes a note to people to "make their own decision" doesn't mean that it's okay for him to spread false information. When we walked into the restaurant last night, several articles were spread out for customers to read while waiting. Among them, articles discrediting Electric Vehicles (EVs) and plant-based meats, untrue information to thwart climate change. 54% of Americans believe climate change is a MAJOR threat to our world; only 4% don't believe in climate change at all (Pew Research Center). Why would you distribute false information against things that could positively impact our earth? One of the articles -- widely distributed on social media --said Electric Vehicles (EVs) required a ridiculous amount of oil and coal energy. USA Today did a fact check and concluded the claim made no sense. The electric grid works on multiple renewable energy sources and those include solar, wind, and water besides traditional sources. Many of us who drive EVs also use alternative sources of energy or pay extra to do this in our electric bill with the hope we make a difference. One MIT professor said, "I think the most important question is, 'How do EVs and gas cars compare on emissions per distance?'," said Miller. "In the US, using average electricity, EVs produce roughly 100 grams of CO2 per mile." That's 60% less than a typical gasoline-powered car that gets 30 mpg, which produces roughly 280 grams of CO2 per mile. "If you switch to an electric vehicle, even if you're using fossil fuels (to charge), it's just simply not true that you'll be using more fossil fuel," said Jessika Trancik, a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology who studies the environmental impact of energy systems (USA Today Dec. 21, 2021). Then take the plant-based meat industry, another article on the table that "bashed" people's attempt to make an environmental impact. The industry is in its infancy and needs improvement, but why advocate to stop it? Animals raised for our food are responsible for 60% of Carbon emissions. Consider that "atmospheric greenhouse gas levels continued to rise in 2020, in large part because of an emissions increase in the Amazon as rain forests were changed into land for cattle to satisfy the global demand for beef" (Scientific American, Jan 1, 2022). Our rainforest is almost beyond repair. The poultry and beef industry has a huge lobbying presence to push politicians to support their industries and ignore the ethical/moral imperatives to save the earth. Even people cutting back on their consumption would have a huge impact, but Ron's false information is propaganda to remain stagnant and ignore scientific facts that could save our planet for future generations. Needless to say, the night we read Ron's articles while waiting for our table, we left and won't be back. I suspect others who believe in climate change will do the same. It's a shame. I was a good customer for years and enjoyed the food/ambience, but I can't stand false facts that don't think of the common good of humanity. read more

We stopped here Monday night after checking into our hotel. It was about a mile from the Hampton Inn and recommended by them. The place was pretty busy and there was a line waiting to be seated for the restaurant. We opted to just go into the bar to have a few drinks and get a little bit to eat. They have a wide selection of beers on tap. The place seemed very cozy and there also appeared to be a lot of regulars. The decor was kind of rustic with a lot of brick stone and wood. They even had the front of a school bus embedded in a wall with working lights. We ordered chicken wings and chicken tenders which all came out in a timely fashion and everything tasted good. Ron's is our go-to for sit down or takeout. The variety suits whatever mood you're in but it's the quality of the ingredients that really set things apart. Their salads are my favorite, especially the brussel sprout salad with (homemade!) There's even old gross carpeting in the dining area. The bar is so dark, you have to wonder if they are hiding roaches or mice. They really need an overhaul !
