Hands down, the best furniture store in Orange County. When I bought my place a year and a half ago, I knew I didn't want my old ass furniture from my apartment in the new pad. I spent a wad of money remodeling it so I really couldn't get away with cheap, old furniture. I decided to bite the bullet and go for Room and Board style and quality and have never regretted the decision. First off, none of the sales people are on commission, so they give you their honest opinion instead of hitting you up for the most expensive items. My salesperson, I can't remember her name, had great taste and guided me to exactly what I wanted. The selection is more modern mid-century with Asian influence....trust me, it works if you like any of the three styles. The enormous selection they have along with mostly everything being customizable, means you shouldn't have to go anywhere else for setting up your place. The showroom itself is 2 story and is one of the nicest ones around. I would have given five stars but the delivery guys couldn't figure out how to get my new 250 pound bookcase up my entry stairway. I ended up hiring a few guys that got it up, no problem. But the R&B delivery guys were very good and pleasant otherwise. Don't expect Ikea pricing or even CB2 pricing here. But if you're like me and tend to hang out a lot at home and have people over quite often, the price is completely worth the monetary sacrifice. read more

Have bought several items from Joseph at Room and Board. Always had great service and we've been very happy with the products. Unfortunately one of the kitchen chairs we bought over 2 years ago, one that had hardly been used in that time, cracked recently when someone sat on it. For example, they sell a "Sevilla" chair (not Barcelona), made of the same materials, same design, same factories, same price... come on, you couldn't get the originals? I had previously left a bad review for this location (which is now deleted) after not even receiving a "hello" the first time I visited. My husband and I reluctantly ended up going back because we did want a couch, and figured that if no one helped us again we would just go online and do it ourselves after scoping out the fabrics in person. This time Cody greeted us immediately upon entering and helped us figure out which sofa would suit out needs. He was not pushy in trying to up-sell us fabric options and was very transparent in the ordering process. We've had our couch for two weeks and are not completely satisfied with the comfort so we are going through an exchange process that required us to go back to the store again. Not really a fun process for anyone, but on our third visit to the store today two staff members were very friendly and helpful. I am willing to admit maybe the first time was a "one-off". Drove up twice from San Diego and both times got attentive and helpful service. Explored many options and had staff try draping some pieces with different fabric options. They gave me fabric swatches which I tested at home with red wine and chocolate. Finally settled on the Anson sofa in micro-suede and its perfect. We looked for a sofa for over a month and after reading so many mixed reviews went to room and board. Wanted a comfy couch watching sofa chaise combo. Macys reviews show alot of quality problems, PB was too limited in style choices and the same type of product at C&B was $400 more.I went a week or so before and browsed and found the a sofa we love. Some of the staff can be snobby and not even give you the time of day if they think your not a buyer or dont have money., The morning my husband and I went in, we found Tracy who did not size us up by our workout attire (having just come from working out) and asked if she could help us in any way or show us anything. Super helpful lady, who had the exact sofa we bought. The Orson. We love the sofa and the delivery guys are amazing. They even go over care and feeding of your sofa. It's a really "safe" place to decorate your house, I'm looking to reflect a little more of my own personal style, I do think the quality is very good,and the fresh baked cookies and coffee are a nice touch. The only GREAT disappointment was the Design and Quality of the Table and chair set we bought for our Dinning room, we thought we made an investment that would last until we were tired of looking at it, however the chairs are structural steel, covered with leather and we didn't realize that the leather would eventually pull apart at the seams and when I went in the girl told me the amount of time I had the chairs was not covered by warranty or no discount on a new purchase, she was SUPER cold and insensitive!. Now I'm stuck with $1200.00 worth of structural steel ,tearing leather seams and chairs that my guest can't even sit on because the poor design and lack of integrity of an American company I invested in that got money and is now tellingly to pound sand. I feel that the design flaw should be taken into consideration towards a new set, like 40% off or something for a repeat customer. read more

Bought a very large leather sofa, paid top price for special finish, When delivered noticed the top section of the back cushions had the crinkly aluminum foil look of cheap leather. Too busy to be preoccupied with complaint. The one in showroom did not have that crinkly look as by then I had come to associate it with cheapo leather. Had it for a few years and it has held up ok, but bugs me everytime I see that crinkle so when friend asked for recommendations, got on computer and decided it was time to let others know of my experience. read more

Had a great experience initially with a salesperson. Went back to write the check and had to deal with another person about a small ottoman question. The second gal lied about a brand thinking I didn't know the merchandise. A third salesperson tried to back up the second gal with another lie. Huge mistake. HUGE! I walked and have not been back. The merchandise is very expensive and the coverage of the sale is iffy. Shady business practices. Took the drive to LA and found better mid century ideas for a better price. I visited the store and one of the wonderful designers Lynda helped me. I need furniture for the whole place and she came up with several space plans that were amazing! She gave me measurements and layouts so I could chose what I liked but would be sure to fit my space. So far I have purchased a sofa and chair for my living room. The quality was excellent and the service impeccable. She is helping me with the dining room and then our office / guest bedroom. She really understood that I enjoyed the decorating process and the need to have my own personal style. I would highly recommend visiting one of the showrooms! Every time I visit I am greeted by a friendly staff no matter how busy they are. She even helped me with paint colors! They use Benjamin Moore in the showroom and I picked two colors I liked on the walls! She gave me paint chip samples and fabric samples so I have them with me when I shop for accessories. Just happened to see the store driving near South Coast Plaza. They have some pretty nice stuff. Very modern, similar to the furniture you would found in stores like Pottery Barn/Crate and Barrel but a bit nicer. Prices are not cheap though but nevertheless not too excessively expensive. read more

love them so much I posted the same review for both Santa Ana & Culver City! Was excited to see R&B adding locations in SOCAL--were very familiar with them in Chicago...always a fan of the look and observed quality of their furniture. Loved the options they have too -- light woods as well as cherry & maple (or some are dark stained sustainable bamboo); shiny stainless steel or darker natural steel; among other options... Bought 2 sets of furniture from them in the last 5 years (from Santa Ana, prior to the opening of Culver City location)...LOVE the pieces! Clean simple lines. The first set was an media entertainment center-- no issues. 2nd set was the Linear line--bedroom pieces. Unfortunately, we did have a few minor issues with the drawers -- one within a month of delivery (the dovetail joining was separating); the 2nd 1-2 years later one of the glides was broken (mea culpa). Both times was floored by the customer service response: They actually care!!! (what a concept?!?). Both times they sent out a local furniture repair tech they contracted (and paid for) to fix the problem. I didn't have to do anything more than explain the problem, and then set up an appointment -- no hoops, no red-tape, no need to throw a temper-tantrum, etc. Clearly, to me, they stand behind their products and value their customers for the long-haul, not just for the short-term of the present sale... Can't wait to visit the Culver City location -- closer than Santa Ana. And, check out their website too! I love to promote a business with the right attitude! read more

I just had the best experience with Room and Board's shipping department. They were very accommodating to my schedule and worked with me to make sure the delivery date worked for me. Not only that, but they gave me the phone number of the driver so he and I could coordinate meeting. I actually talked to human beings who were friendly and helpful. It's so rare to find a company that understands you can't stay home all day waiting for a shipment that I really wanted to find a way to compliment their customer service. I wish I had more furniture to buy because I'd definitely find a way to buy it from Room and Board! The driver, Adam, and his partner, Nathan, were friendly, courteous and on time. Recently ordered a CUSTOM sofa that didn't work in our den. They are taking it back with no restocking fee, replacing it with a different custom sofa. Sales help are curteous and knowledgable. my new favorite furniture store. i always had the assumption that this place was pricey, but i was pleasantly surprised when i finally checked it out. really well made, stylish and modern furnishings, but at a price to rival the big stores like crate&barrel, pottery barn, etc. they do have some expensive eames and herman miller chairs, but the sofas, beds, tables, and cabinets were well priced for the quality and design. and this store is huge! great place to get ideas for your own place. read more

This furniture is for keeps. It is very well made. It has classic, Shaker-like style. It is not decorated with fru-fru frills that will make it out of date in a few years. And most important to me is that this furniture is made in America from American woods. This means jobs for Americans and that my purchase supports the U.S. economy. In addition, modern U.S. logging for this kind of wood is managed and selective, so that a whole forest is not destroyed to get a few trees, and the trees removed will regenerate. It is very important to me that tropical forests are not being destroyed to furnish my house, but most furniture sold in the U.S. is made in other countries from tropical woods. I have seen first hand the very wasteful lumbering in tropical countries that permanently destroys the habitat for the diverse tropical wildlife and indigenous people--after the land is cleared by tropical loggers, moneyed interests burn-off the remaining vegetation to make low quality rangeland for hamburger cattle. The nice quality furniture at Room and Board is produced in a conscientious way that I am glad to support. read more

Went to Room and Board on Sun 5/16/10, ordered an Andre Couch in Stock fabric because we were moving into our new place in 2 weeks, so 10 day delivery on stocked items was perfect. 3 days before move, no contact from Room and Board. thursday before...which is today...we called in to confirm delivery, and they informed us that the couch would not be delivered until MID JULY!... We had been promised the couch in time for the move in, and actually this was the reason to choose them over another store which would have delivered the couch next week (3 week delivery). Note, I would have been happy if they notified us immediately that there was in issue with the fabric (we chose a stocked fabric, over custom in order to get couch quickly), as we specifically told the sales associate that we moving in in 2 weeks. No call or any notification from Room and Board, until we called in to check. Only then did we find out delivery date would be in July, if we didn't call we'd just be waiting with NO CLUE. Seems like most of the reviews are of Room and Board Furniture, which is nice if you receive it on time, or notify you so you can make alternate arrangements....overall bad experience... read more
