TL;DR - I'm a return customer. Bought some bookshelves and was satisfied with the product and delivery experience. Just bought a couch here. Downside is the pricing but it is reflected in the quality, uniqueness, and customer service. I'm a return customer. I was pretty satisfied with my first experience so I came back again when I needed to further furnish my home. A year ago I ended up buying a couple foshay bookshelves. It was a lengthy process consisting of multiple visits over the course of a month to make sure it was "the one" we wanted for our home. After dropping a pretty penny for them, the shelves arrived after a couple months as expected. Delivery was very professional. There were two movers who moved in the bookshelves and parked them exactly where I wanted. They also ensured the shelves were leveled because our floor was a little uneven. They made sure I was completely satisfied before they left. As they installed the bookshelves, they noticed a defect in one of the shelving units, and went out of their way to report it so a new component could be delivered to my home free of charge. I went back recently to get a sofa. Their website made it very easy for me to map it out in my own home. Their store had the item available for me to see it in person. An assistant was there to give me a variety of fabric colors to consider. Now I'm just waiting for delivery (will update when it comes). The only downside of Room and Board is the pricing. It's a little higher than what you'd expect but it is reflected in the quality and uniqueness of their products and the customer service. Love this company! I bought some furniture from them years ago that held up super well, so wanted to check them out when I was in the market for a new couch. This location is usually not very busy, so they are able to help you with questions about each sofa. I ended up going with one that I thought would be perfect for my new space, but after a few months it ended up still being too firm for me. I reached out to them and was able to return the couch even though it was a few months later. I decided to try out some of their other couch options and found a different one that I loved, so they were able to take the first couch when they delivered the second couch. The couch I selected the second time around, The Metro Sofa (Deep), is seriously the most comfortable couch ever and everyone who visits me comments on it being insanely comfortable. Obviously not cheap, but worth it for something you use as much as a couch. read more

I am so disappointed! I went into the room and board store last month to purchase the Berlin sleeper sofa. Vianey assisted us. Due to the terms noted, I decided to go the 12 month Affirm financing (0%). This was the first time we had used affirm and so our profiles were not verified. Because of this, after it was confirmed 2 days after via email then it was cancelled without notification. I only found out it was cancelled 3 weeks later when I went to see my order details (when the couch was due) and because Affirm noted it as fraud (when it was really because the account wasn't verified at the time, not fraud because we are who we stated we are), room and board thought they didn't have to notify me. On top of that, when I emailed Vianey letting her know it was cancelled, I didn't hear back from her for days and when she finally responded, it was to say that it was taken care of (which was not the case). This experience lead me to go to American leather directly to get the sleeper sofa and another couch. After this experience, I will never be buying from room and board. read more

We were incredibly disappointed in the customer service we received when we went to R&B. I had been working with a support person over email to select some options. We went to the store to sit in some of the sofas we'd discussed and get some swatches for the different leathers we're considering. We only had one person ask us if we needed anything - and then when I started asking questions, she walked away! We drove an hour to their showroom for absolutely nothing. Horrid customer support and total waste of time. I won't be giving this company any of my money. By comparison, we walked into three or four competitors in that same plaza, and were greeted immediately and all our questions answered...and left with swatches from each place. read more

The staff is knowledgeable and Gina, who I've been working with, is a certified interior designer, and her expertise has actually saved me thousands of dollars, and guided me to texture and color combinations I would never have known about. The furniture seems very top notch. The service was decent. We weren't immediately acknowledged by any of the floor staff. We had to seek someone to help us with one of the sofas even though there were 3 workers behind a counter not really working with clients on the floor. Once we were helped the lady was helpful. I absolutely love Room & Board and have had amazing customer service experiences with them. Their furniture is modern and good quality, their showroom is well laid out, and their staff are friendly and helpful! In terms of online orders, unlike other furniture retailers they are very communicative. You select a day/time for your furniture delivery, then two days in advance they'll confirm the delivery. No wondering where the heck your furniture is or whether it will be delayed. So refreshing. They even allow cancellations up to the day before delivery, no questions asked and your money promptly refunded! I also love how easy their website is. They allow reviews, they show very detailed pictures, descriptions, dimensions, and how to take care of your furniture based on materials used. They stick to fact-based info to help the customer inform their decision rather than just rely on a bunch of pretty marketing words. In May of 2024 our sofa was delivered. Great experience at the store, very pleased with the delivery. However, one thing that has been an issue is the frequent inconvenience of getting poked by a feather coming through the fabric. This is something that probably happens a couple times a week - you sit on the sofa, and get stabbed by the end of the feather coming through. Sometimes it's easy to just pull it through, but frequently it is such a small part that is barely exposed, that you have to unzip the cover, and remove it. And it's really uncomfortable getting those sharp ends in your back (it seems to be more of an issue with the back cushions, than the ones that you sit on). It's just an annoying experience that seems to be happening a lot. My hope is that this might happen less frequently as time goes on, but I think it's going to be a long term issue. read more

How I miss their old and much bigger location!! Regardless, Room & Board will always be one of our fave furniture stores! We've been picking up select pieces that we love from Room & Board for over 10 years now and the quality and craftsmanship of their work has NEVER disappointed. Yes, they are a bit pricier than the bigger furniture chains...but I'm all about paying for quality & solid craftsmanship that will last a lifetime. Every time we have visited, staff has always been friendly and helpful. While the new SOCO location does not have as much on display as the previous location, staff is always willing to help and check for us if the pieces we are inquiring about are on display at the LA location. Take note, that on the big furniture pieces they do charge a $99 delivery and setup fee per order. So, if you're buying multiple items it's a score! There is a max distance they deliver to, so you'll need to inquire about that in store. If you're buying smaller items (think pillows, bedding, lamps, etc..) then shipping is free via UPS. We've done multiple deliveries with both options and have been satisfied each time. The only time we encountered an issue was when we ordered a swivel chair that we wanted on the 2nd floor. The crew wasn't able to fit it through our doors and had to just leave it in the garage. We called Room & Board about the issue and they refunded us the $99 delivery cost. So while we didn't get our piece to where we wanted right away (we had to use a 3rd party moving company), Room & Board understood and we were happy with the outcome. A nice little perk that I LOVE each time we visit is the complimentary tea & coffee they offer. They used to offer cookies too..I miss that!! Hahah. But yeah, I take pleasure in the little joys of furniture shopping while sipping my tea, pinkies up! Oh and a tip - they have a yearly clearance event online and in store. In store they put showroom items on clearance to make space for the newer collections. It used to be the day after Christmas but I believe now they've changed it to the first Saturday in January. Soooooo if there's a piece you've been eyeing - that's the time you want to buy folks! Always a fun time for me=). So I was unaware that the store had moved and is no longer at South Coast I went to their old location to find it closed and I had figured that it went out of business but after checking the always helpful Yelp I saw that they had moved to SoCo District so we headed over there to see what's good! Upon walking into the store and around for what was a few minutes we were finally asked if we needed help with anything as I feel this took way to long to be acknowledged in a retail environment! The store itself has an abundance of things for the home most of which are very plain and just definitely something I would not design my home with as they don't really have any expression to them. The prices for everything here are seriously ridiculously overpriced for what your getting it's no wonder they moved to a smaller store because I wouldn't pay that much for anything here when I can go to another design store that has products with character for better prices. The only real plus side here is that I found most of the products are made in USA so that's definitely what I feel was good about the Room And Board! Keep in mind they don't have any back stock so whatever your looking to buy will have to be shipped to your house the good side of it is that it was free shipping at least in my case! Overall I wouldn't come here for your design needs it's not worth it and I wouldn't have purchased anything here if it wasn't for the fact that I had a gift card! read more

I came for the Clearance sale, but got here towards the end of the day. I've purchased our Metro sofa and other items in the past and I've been eyeing a few chairs. The one chair I've been looking at was on sale, but unfortunately was sold out, however I saw the other chair I was also thinking about and luckily it was on sale. I was helped by Kasha and she was very helpful in assisting me with choosing alternative colors. I've been very happy with R&B every time I've visited and purchased items! My wife and I have been shopping around for a new couch. We've been to this store many times in the past to browse around but didn't think about checking out the sofas until I read Steph H's review. First off, 90% of the products in this store are made in America. When you look at price tag on each item it has the products Origin. Instead of seeing "Made in China" you'll see "Made in North Carolina", "Made in Oregon", etc. I try to make a habit of buying American made products when I can so this was a huge selling point for me. Per their website the manufactures they do use are small family owned shops across the U.S.A. I wish more companies took an active role like this on keeping jobs here. Staff here is non-commission so they don't follow you around like a shark drawn to blood. They let you know if you need help just ask and let you wonder around. If you're not sure about a color they'll give you fabric swatches to take home with you to see if it works with your existing scheme. Most of the furniture here is way to modern looking for our taste but we ended up finding the perfect couch right before we left the store. After all the couch hunting we did it was down to this couch and one at a different store. We went back and forth between stores a few times before finally making our decision. We ended up buying from the other store since it fit our needs just a tad bit more. We'll definitely keep this place in mind for future furniture needs. read more

I worked with Monika from your Costa Mesa store, who helped me plan out and furnish my family room and kitchen. She was patient and happy to meet with me a number of times as we worked to refine the selections, and she presented me with a model of what the room would look like so I could see my rooms and feel confident before I made any purchases. I learned so much from Monika, as she continued to give me tips every time we met, and she explained why some of the colors and options I initially was gravitating towards might have better options. In the end, my rooms turned out beautiful, well balanced, and comfortable! I couldn't be more happy with the results. My experience with other showroom staff was awesome as well, as were my interactions with customer service staff. I love that the furnishings are made mostly in the USA and by artisans around the globe. Furniture delivery came as planned and everything was well protected upon arrival. Art and Ben were exceptional in their delivery, so much more patient and caring than staff I've seen elsewhere. They handled the furniture carefully, coordinating between them when lifting and lowering each piece. They were very patient, making sure the rug was placed exactly where I wanted it and coordinated moving it around until we found just the right spot. They carefully placed all the other furniture where it needed to go, explaining and demo-ing the locking mechanism on my new section. I've never worked with such professional delivery associates! i stop by this place on occasion when i need my dose of mid-century modern infusion. the various furnished show rooms are an interior design marvel! i get inspired every time i walk through this place. From room to room, you'll find mid-century furniture masterpieces like Eames/Herman Miller, Corbusier, Wegner and the like flanked around some original designer pieces. There are some impressive knock offs as well, like the Seville Chair (Knoll Barcelona) at a fraction of the cost. ...However, be warned it is expensive, but what do you expect? You're buying artwork, not just furniture! Next time you pop in, ask for David, he's very helpful and not pushy. read more

First of all, this is the most beautiful home furnishing store I have ever seen, by a mile. It's also not as crowded because there are only twelve or so locations throughout the U.S. and this one is sitting in a small shopping center across from South Coast Plaza. Second, the customer service is ridiculous. After helping me through two separate visits, I worked extensively with Bao on the layout of the furniture in my place and after getting measurements and photos from me, he drew three separate floorplans up for me to look at. You read that, right? He drew them, on pieces of paper and scanned them and emailed them to me. According to R&B, the design associates are also not on commission. Which means drawing, scanning and emailing was just another day at work for him. Most retail employees, I can barely remember their name. This guy, I have him in my contacts on my phone. Third, I had my furniture delivered this morning and they were like delivery workers on speed. The "two hour window" I was given was 7:30-9:30am. I got a call at 7:24am. They were up and down with three pieces of furniture in ten minutes. They even had felt pads made for the pieces I bought so I didn't even end up having to use the ones I got at Home Depot. It was like they woke up this morning and went, "we can't wait to deliver some furniture, we must do it RIGHT NOW." In the interests of not sounding like a total crazy person, though, I will try to come up with some caveats to be fair: -The place is pretty expensive. In fact, when I first stepped into the store, I almost stepped right back out because I saw the price on one of the couches. Having said that, most or all of the pieces are designed and built in the U.S. (in the catalog you can see what state, etc. your piece was made in) and out of solid woods and high quality fabrics. Even at Crate & Barrel, a lot of the more expensive pieces include "low emission engineered wood" elements. I don't remember seeing a single piece like that here. Also, I did end up finding furniture that fit my budget more closely, so yeah, it's expensive, but in the big picture, not much more than the other high end furniture stores. -There is no set warranty policy. They seem sincere and eager to make sure their customers are taken care of, but it does kind of concern me that it will apparently be on a case-by-case basis. Hopefully I won't have to test the limits of their good will! -The delivery guys were almost TOO fast. They gently banged the coffee table when they were bringing it up and putting it together. Nothing that left a scratch or anything, but I wanted to tell them to take it easy and that life would go on if they didn't make their next appointment six minutes early. In summary, Room & Board is an amazing place full of beautiful furniture with extremely high levels of customer service. I'll be daydreaming about coming back here when it's time to upgrade my bed or office desk. read more

It's a beautiful store and the staff were friendlier after we decide to make an order. Me and Mr. Q purchased a 85" sofa named Roland. This is the most worst quality sofa that I have ever purchased. The quality here is even worse than the sofa from Ikea. The sofa looks nice and chic. The back pillow changed its shape after 3 days. And the sofa legs were loose, after I sent it back to the manufacturing, the sofa came back with steady leg but the pillows weren't square anymore. Since the day we truly uses the sofa, we don't like it anymore. This sofa makes you like sit on a playground slide. You can never sit straight, the shape and the material of the sofa keeps you sliding. We need to put the pillow back in shape every time when we sit on it. A sofa have to look modern and chic, but it also needs to be have more support for your back and have some quality. We will not recommend this place to any of my friends. read more

It also costs a small fortune, but that's ok. I've got that gigolo thing on the side. Service is top notch. The R&B delivery folks are extremely professional. Best furniture store. Period. Everything from lamps, office furniture and rugs to beds, credenzas, bedding and artwork. Yes, it is pricey but it comes assembled. What a novel idea! Unless you have money to burn, pick a few pieces you love and fill in the rest with less expensive items. At the end of Decem ber, they have a clearance sale. Arrive before opening, bring friends or family and prepare to fling your body over the furniture to reserve it. Or bring a billy club and have at it. read more

Walked in with cash in my pocket (yes, actual money) and was ready to buy but no one paid attention to me. I had a couple of questions before dropping $4K on the table but seems like no one actually cares. The people were chatting away, talking about their weekend or whatever... nice stuff but certainly overpriced. i imagine late-20 somethings buying from room and board. but i say, support your local carpenter and create a custom design based on what you see at this place. labor costs are often hourly and quality is much better as it is not mass produced and carefully tailored to what you request. you just have to find a good carpenter....there aren't many in Orange County left.... now, the good thing about buying produced furniture is that you can enjoy it almost instantly (depending on pick-up/delivery schedule). you don't have to wait for a contractor or carpenter to finish. what i like about room & board is certainly that option - delivery right to your home. ....but you have to be careful that what you're buying is actually quality furniture - there is such a wide range of quality woods, metals, stones, etc. not everything here is quality wood for example - you can generally tell instantly...weight, color, variations, etc. anyway, i'm no furniture snob but room and board is overrated in terms of value and sometimes, design. it's nice and i'm sure i'd be satisfied with the things i'm looking at but can you really justify a non custom made piece of furniture for 2-4 grand? it's not THAT great either. it's "just nice." read more

I'd give this location zero stars of I could. Came in with my husband and parents. NO one greeted us. NO one asked if we had any questions or even acknowledged our existence. What they did was just chatted amongst themselves. No else was in the store so it wasn't like they could've missed us. ZERO, I mean complete void of customer service. I work in retail and know how to make people feel welcomed without being intrusive and this is just insulting. It felt very racist. They are ATROCIOUS representatives of the company. We were ready to purchase a sofa and walked out instead. They lost a sale and didn't even care. On the other hand, the Culver City location has MUCH better customer service. Disgusted. read more

HORRIBLE customer service by Costa Mesa, CA Asst. Manager Joseph! We have been customers for years and have had excellent buying experiences previously. JOSEPH has single handedly changed our opinion of this company, offended us, and we will likely never return because of him. It took me 2 weeks to get my husband in store to look at a rather small $3,000 console cabinet. The cabinet was placed behind a couch and within wall shelving right behind it (a very tight squeeze and not easy to see the front), so we asked that it be pulled so we could look at it before ordering. The gals on floor were very sweet, but JOSEPH (who was just standing around staring into space, doing nothing) said it couldn't be moved due to possible damage. WHAT? We convinced him to move it out slightly and my husband helped (to be honest, I could have moved this easily and I'm wimpy). We were deciding on which top to order (white ceramic or plain wood). We stepped over to the ceramic tops (with our sales gal) for a quick minute and came back with a top sample. JOSEPH had moved the cabinet back to the enclosed area. We asked why he would do that, and he replied, "it's a safety hazard". Again, WHAT? There was only one other customer in the entire store and nothing was blocked! We left the store VERY upset. ROOM AND BOARD MANAGEMENT-if you feel JOSEPH is a good representation for your company and customer service standards, then you've lost a very good customer for life. Good luck.
