This is an AMAZING furniture store! The style is so modern, chic, and beautiful. Unfortunately, the prices are SUPER high! But the staff is sooooo nice, the showrooms are plentiful, and they really make you feel like you're at home - they offer complimentary coffee, tea, and the day I went there... they were giving out desserts from Sweet and Saucy shop in Newport Beach! There is no customer service - We arrived on a sunday 15 min after they opened - there must have been 20 people on the floor all staring into their computers - not a one asked us if we needed help - we had driven all the way up from san diego to purchase a bed from that store - we left and went to environment furniture disappointing especially in this economy ...As a follow up: the store manager messaged me about my review and was concerned about the lack of customer service my family and I received. To me the note read as respectful. Yes, this place is expensive but you're not always going to be buying furniture so just get some nicer pieces and work them into your existing pieces or pieces from other retailers. I just moved into a new house. A lot of new furniture and a lot of people installing alarms, new kitchens, renovations etc etc etc. Bar none, this so far has been the easiest most professional experience so far and I have the bills to prove just how many other people I have been dealing with. I went here on the recommendation of a friend (thanks Dave!) One look at their style on their website and knew this was my kinda place (oh, the fast food Chinese place in the strip mall next door is not too bad either!) I walked around for a bit and was checked in on by Angela. I told her I was a TV based person looking for a cozy living room. She figured my style out pretty quickly and by the 3rd sofa I was set. One of the many cool things about this place is that they can customize most of their items. So, if the coffee table, entertainment system or sofa you see on the floor is too small or too big, do not worry. Chances are they can make one just for you. I still remember Angela when I left the store. "You have a long drive home, right? Do you want some water? Do you want a cookie?" They have homemade cookies there. Just walk to the middle of the store and hang a right. I went back a month later to work on my living room with Angela. What a great experience. We assembled the room and the basic dimensions to get a feel for things. I brought paint and flooring samples. They have a multitude of fabrics on site big enough to be draped over the items you are thinking of getting. I should mention the sales associates do not work on commission. It is a really relaxed professional sales experience. After I chose my items, I got a folder which included care information as well as samples of all of the fabrics I was using. My designer saw this and said one word. "Classy" So, delivery day. My renovations are taking longer than expected so there is dust everywhere! In fact the day the sofa showed up molding and door hardware was being installed. So much dust I could have tossed down peanut shells and opened a saloon. Here comes the Room and Board truck. Two cute guys (always a plus) jump out in off white shorts and matching shirts! They greet me with a shake of the hand and I mention the dust thing. So, they ask me where I will be placing my furniture. They leave everything bagged (this stuff is double protected which is really cool) but place it where it will end up in the living room. They told me they were going to leave the sofa on its back so all I had to do was unpack it and tip it over. It is one thing to have such professional service and nice people. However, they go above and beyond by coming up with additional ideas which has made my home purchase and renovations easier and my Living Room a heck of a lot better than I ever could have planned. My nesting instincts have really kicked in, and it's driven me to buy some furniture. This wasn't an easy task because I initially had no idea where to go although I knew that I didn't want MDF laminated disposable IKEA furniture, so instead I started my suburban death march with Crate & Barrel which I was hoping would be a little better quality, but that recalled some scenes from the movie Fight Club and it's commentary on consumerism/materialism. It also caused me to have a flashback on a very memorable scene of an IKEA packed apartment exploding. The kind of imagery that created some resentment on my way to South Coast Plaza's Crate and Barrel, but luckily my Tyler Durden voice in a totally non "Tyler Durden" like behavior redirected me to the "Tyler Durden" approved Room & Board across from South Coast Plaza. I was initially "just looking", but after talking to Carlos, I was sold on buying from Room & Board because he definitely is an asset to Room & Board because at no point did I feel rushed or pressured. Just good customer service, that convinced me to pass up the 10-15% off sale at Crate and Barrel, and instead I bought my sectional from Room & Board at regular price which I feel has been a good buy so far regardless of it not being "sale priced" although comparably price. Delivery!, amazing. They delivered within the 2 hour time slot they had specified the day before, and the two bodybuilders who delivered the sectional, were some big ass mofo's. They must have moved, unwrapped, and set-up the couch in about 5 mins without knocking anything over or damaging anything.... "His name is Robert Paulson". Follow-up is just as good.... in fact, I'm going to have to take the emailed survey and return a couple messages right after I head down to L'Occitane to pick-up some soap. read more

manako lamp i picked up at the torrance dist center is amazing. however, unfortunately it had two scratches on the wood where they taped the ac plug onto the wood during shipping. now i had to exchange it. nope, im not driving to the dist center again with the borrowed vanpool van. so the cust service said they will deliver it to my home for the exchange free of charge. Can't get any better than this. 5 Stars all the way from start to finish. Customer Service-no pushiness, just expertise and helpfulness. Our girl sat with us for an hour laying out possibilities, drawing out plans, walking us through prices/options. Plus they have a table with coffee and cookies! She sent us home with tons of samples of upholstery fabrics. We never felt rushed or pushed. No salesman-types rushing up to you to get your business. Delivery- One word: Incredible. When have you ever had polite, knowledgeable and fluent English-speaking delivery guys (who were also rather good-looking) come set up your furniture for you?? They made sure their shoes were clean. They gave me lots of information about my new couch. They even put on complimentary floor protector discs on the feet of the couch to protect my wood floors! Quality- My Orson sectional is not only beautiful, its super comfortable and very well made. The modern design really made over my living room into a model house. The dimensions are perfect. With Room & Board, I was able to custom make this sectional to fit the size of my living room. Its also great to know that this couch was made in North Carolina. Hubby also did an online purchase for a Herman Miller chair for his back. He loves it. We are so pleased with Room & Board. After having made some other recent purchases at Pottery Barn (dining table) and Restoration Hardware (dresser), I can't even begin to tell you what a difference there is. Pottery Barn's salespeople were clueless. Restoration Hardware kept delivering damaged furniture. I'm sticking with Room & Board. End of story. read more

Before they became national, their prices were much more friendly but now that they've made it to both coasts, they had to jack up their price and attitude, I guess. :D Lots of Eames pieces can be found here. They used to carry tons of organic cotton dolls from blabla but it looks like they are phasing them out and replacing them with made in china stuff...which makes me sad. :( This was the only place I knew that I could get blabla dolls locally for less (price) than what blabla sells them on line! In all honesty, I never really noticed the place since it's not directly connected to South Coast Plaza (proper). However, when looking for my Herman Miller Aeron chair, they were listed as the closest to my place, so I stopped by for a look. What I discovered was heaven. This place is exactly how I want my house to look (never mind the fact that I don't have one but we can overlook that momentarily). It's like the Ikea for rich people. I think part of the reason that the items are so expensive is because virtually all of the products sold are designed and made in America, which is a rarity nowadays to begin with. And no wood parts are made from the cheap pressured wood chips. It's all true American sourced hardwood. Julie was my design associate and she was incredibly knowledgeable about the chair I wanted. Couldn't ask for a better person to deal with. I'm definitely coming back here to buy more furniture for my house. I just need to find a boatload of money first. read more

Room & Board just got on our radar and we made our first purchase (the Elton bookcase). Julie K. helped us at the Santa Ana store (which is actually almost touching South Coast plaza). She was super pleasant, talkative, informative and just an overall nice person. The delivery of the bookcase was on time and we even got a call from the driver half an hour prior to arrival. When the delivery guys arrived, they realized that our preassembled piece of furniture didn't fit through the doorway to the room so they took it all apart and then put it back together inside the room. I went to Room & Board after reading all the reviews on yelp and I was not disappointed. I love the selection of modern classic furniture. Most of their furniture is made in the US which is a plus! The furniture is a little pricey but worth it, I know this furniture is going to last me a very long time. The only downside is if you find a piece of furniture you really like, make sure to buy it before the start of the new year. I found this one chair I really liked but waited till February to buy it and they no longer carried it! When I purchased my bed set from them and had it delivered, the delivery people are top notch. I'm in love with this store. Most of the furniture in my house is from this place, and it's because they have a wide selection, great quality products, usually good service, and excellent delivery. About the store: The showroom is fairly expansive, and the spaces are broken up to feel more like individual rooms than a giant showroom. There are accessory options, furniture options, etc. You can test everything, and you can also see huge fabric samples (and get an unlimited amount of free swatches). Perhaps the best part about this place is the complementary freshly baked cookies/bottled water! The service both in and out of the store is also noteworthy. It can be a bit challenging to find a sales assistant sometimes, but once you do, he or she will be well versed. R & B prides itself on the "no commission" slant, so you won't be mauled by hungry nutballs who just want you to buy hideous and expensive items. One of my favorite parts about shopping here is the entire delivery process. First, there is a flat rate for delivery, which is extremely reasonable. The delivery people are always right on time, are willing to reposition items until you are satisfied with their placement, are cordial and mindful of tracking in dirt/ disposing of all wrapping, and are knowledgeable about product care. Nearly every room in my house is furnished with R & B gear. While the style is most of what keeps me coming back, the service is a significant part of it, too. We are two very indecisive people and he took us around, gave us good advice, but never tried to make a sale. After we left without buying anything the first time b/c we realized we didn't know what we wanted, Bao walked us through it a second time. A certain special somebody has an apartment that already looks like a Room & Board showroom, with the exception of the couch. But this particular couch had seen better days, so that shizznazz was sent off to furniture heaven (read: Goodwill), while the two of us ventured off on a half-day-trip to South Coast Plaza. When we arrived, I realized that Room & Board is essentially a mid-century modern version of Disneyland. The sheer number of rooms in this store will blow your mind. It's in a building detached from the mall itself, and each of the two levels is a sprawling labyrinth of rooms featuring retro-style furniture in an aesthetically pleasing arrangements. You could squander hours in this store looking at the nifty designs and feeling the fabric swatches strewn about. After a lot of difficult decision-making, my companion found a couch that (1) he was in love with, and (2) fell squarely within his price range. The salesperson was polite, helpful, and enthusiastic (but not in an overbearing way at all), and she arranged for the delivery. The furniture here is a little on the pricey side, but the quality and workmanship are first-rate, and I believe that most (if not all) the items are made in the good ol' U-S-of-A. (It's always good for the conscience knowing that your stylish stuff isn't made by starving Indonesian kids.) Summary: If you're looking for expendable furniture to fill up space in your first apartment, skip Room & Board. Seven years ago we bought a number of pieces from Room and Board. The six kitchen faux leather chairs have fallen apart. They are picking them up next week and giving us a 10% refund on each chair which comes to around $50.00 per chair. they could not repair them. We're very lucky no one was hurt when they fell apart. We had to return the kitchen table top within the first two months of owning it. We also had to return a pillow we'd bought to compliment the couch we purchased. So far the couch has held up. After searching on the web we decided on the Lasalle 10 drawer dresser and the Linear 51 inch Office Armoire from Room and Board. We fell in love with these pieces which were kind of pricey but we figured worth the investment. We made our way over to the South Coast store to actually see the furniture in person. After deciding to buy we attempted to complete our purchase, now this is the part where I took away a star - the service was terrible at this store and they were not busy (and had a ton of sales associates). All of the sales people were talking among themselves and not paying attention to customers. FINALLY we stopped a sales associate that was walking through the store (to where?), stepped in front of her and said could we please have someone process our order. She entered our order like she was doing us a favor but at least we completed our purchase. After completely moving in we decided to order another piece to match the desk (Linear 83 inch File Cabinet) and this piece we ordered online. I was referred to Room & Board by a co-worker friend who used to work there. Looking through the catalog, my immediate reaction was "this is too expensive". But after not being able to find a couch I liked at any of the dozen furniture stores I had already been to, I thought I'd make the drive down there to see the selection in person. I was quite overwhelmed by the "upscale-ness" (is that a word?) of the store. Quite beautiful, but just not what I'm used to/comfortable with. After circling the couches I had flagged in my catalog a couple times, I decided to ask an associate there for help. I needed layout advice, as well as fabric information. Bridget was SO patient and SUPER helpful. I went home with fabric swatches and called in my order the following Monday...a Dublin sofa, sectional & chaise lounge in mocha. The price...though a bit more than I would have preferred, I'm thinking will be worth it. So far, everyone who's sat on my couch has said it's so comfortable. Now...they could just be being kind, but I'd like to think I have honest friends. =) Oh...free fabric choices too. You can't beat that. It takes 4-6 weeks, but it's free! The delivery however, is why I had to knock down a star. First...by my own mistake, I had to cancel the sofa and order a smaller size a couple weeks after I placed the order. (Paid a small but way worth it penalty). When the first part of my order came (sectional and chaise), the delivery men told me the warehouse put the wrong feet on the chaise. They said they would send the correct feet but that would mean I'd have to make myself available during their delivery window one more time. Intsead, I told them to just bring it when they bring the last piece, the sofa. So...the sofa comes, and they forget the feet. When they called to confirm delivery the day before, I even asked about the feet, and the lady said it was on the order...no problem. So...I indeed had to be available a 3rd time for them to switch the feet. (This last time, they even put slip pads on everything to make moving the couches easier.) We decided to refurnish our living room and completely redo the look and feel of the room. After spending a lot of time thinking about it, we had a pretty good idea of what we wanted to do, but were unsure how it would fit in our space. We had purchased a Harper recliner from Room and Board in 2012 and were very pleased with it an knew we wanted two more of those chairs, a small sofa that could double as a chaise and two swivel chairs. Since we knew we were going to purchase two chairs from Room and Board, we decided to visit their showroom to see what else they had. That is when we had the fortune to meet Andrea Hadek, a sales associate at Room and Board. After telling Andrea what we were looking for, she showed us some sofas and chairs that fit our needs. However, we were still unsure of whether the furniture would fit in our room. Andrea told us that if we sent her the dimension of the room, she would do a scaled lay-out of the room at no charge! Within a week or so, we had the lay-out and knew for the first time we could accomplish what we wanted to do. Every piece in the lay-out showed the pieces and their dimensions. Andrea gave us some additional ideas we had not considered. She also made a few revisions for us on the lay-out. Her service did not end there! Next was fabric selection. We met Andrea in the showroom and she pulled the large pieces of fabric in their showroom and draped them over the pieces we were purchasing so we could see how they would look. She put a Harper chair next to the sofa we were purchasing to see how the fabrics would coordinate with each other. This took several hours of her time. We had one more visit with Andrea before finalizing our purchase. She skipped her lunch break to meet with us (although we told her she did not need to do so). We could not decide whether to purchase pre-made pillows for the chairs and sofa or purchase the fabric and have them made. So we wanted to see what the pillows actually were like. She pulled pillows from all over the showroom that we could put on the pieces we were purchasing to see how they would work. We wound up purchasing a one arm Reese sofa, two Harper chairs and a Berkeley console. Room and Board assembles all of the pieces you order and delivers them at the same time for one $79 delivery fee. All of the furniture arrived a bit earlier than anticipated. The delivery people were excellent at unpacking and placing everything. They even put felt on the bottom of of the legs. We only had one slight problem. The drawers on the Berkeley console did not open and close smoothly. Andrea arranged to have a repair person to come and look at them. She was unable to fix them to our satisfaction so Andrea said she would order us a new console and swap it out with the one we had and would test the drawers before it is delivered. While the repair person was here, we asked her to take a look at our original Harper recliner that was making a noise. She said a spring was broken and that they would pick up the chair, repair the spring and redeliver it to us at no charge! Everyone we came in contact with during the process has been wonderful and definitely dedicated to customer service. Several times we visited Room and Board on days Andrea was not working. Every time, a sales associate was there to help us with any questions we had. This is a company that cares about its customers and the quality of the furniture it sells. I highly recommend Room and Board. Although all of the sales associates were very helpful I cannot say enough about Andrea Hadek. It has been an absolute pleasure working with her. read more

The Santa Ana shop is exceptional with its large showroom that just about has everything from the catalog. Sales folks are actual designers or have design background and have real good feedback on your furniture needs and daily use. What topped their superior customer service - Handwritten Thank You Notes. The receipt packaging was excellent too, as you receive a sample of your fabric to take along for other related purchases. Even after the purchase, when your furniture arrives, the furniture movers are so friendly and respectful. Also, even if you mention that they don't have to remove their shoes, they do it nonetheless. I've been extremely impressed with the all-around service with Room and Board Santa Ana. read more

My wife and I have been looking a platform style bed for several years, my wife always said she wanted reclaimed wood on the headboard but we saw the leather Wyatt bed and we both absolutely loved it. Unfortunately the first one they shipped had a large dent in the leather headboard as if something was leaning on it during shipping but they didn't hesitate to replace it. Was the experience perfect ? no, but the important thing is that they stepped up and made it right. On a side note: I've been to this location and the old location at South Coast Metro several times but this was my first time purchasing anything. Some of these whiney reviews where people get butt hurt because the sales staff didn't kiss their feet the moment they walked through the door are really pretty and pathetic. As I said, I've been there several times browsing and I feel like they're just giving you your space rather than ignoring you - then when you have a question they're more than happy to answer all of your questions and print out specs if needed. The bottom line is, if you're whiney person you'll probably find something to complain about where ever you go... read more
