Parks exterior is surrounded by an encampment, not visible from the road.

This cute park has been repurposed as homeless housing. While my scan of the large playground showed zero needles, I wouldn't go running through the field here just in case. No children here and we stayed and played for about 5 minutes. While we were there, three adult men were approaching us, they may have been well intentioned but my spidee senses made us bolt. Our neighborhood park has had the same fate so we will keep searching for family parks that are not an encampment.

This is actually a really, really nice park if you look at it from afar and ordinarily would be a 4-star park. "So, why only a 1-star rating?," you ask inquisitively. That's a really good question, and the answer can be summed up with one word: clientele. The local denizens of this park are comprised of mostly Skate Punkz(sic), gangbangers, and (my favorite!) Local Outdoor Enthusiasts (LOE). These inhabitants make this place an uncomfortable place to hang. It's pretty difficult to enjoy yourself at the park when you're constantly having to keep an eye on what the natives are up to. The only reason I ever stop here is to use the restroom at the adjoining community center, but other than that I'd avoid this place. Now that I've given you all the reasons NOT to visit, I suppose it would only be fair to list the reasons to visit: 1) Nice Playground and Tot Lot 2) Skate Park--ergo the Skate Punkz 3) Basketball Courts 4) Handball Courts--thus the gangbangers 5) Coyote Creek Trail access--that explains the LOE 6) Lighted Softball/Baseball field 7) Roller Hockey Rink (see I told you this park had some cool features!) 8) Restrooms inside the adjoining community center are, generally, pretty clean. 9) Standard picnic areas w/ BBQ pits In summation: great park with a lousy location.

I am rating the skate park in itself. I wish there was a different rating to give solely on that. Regardless, this is one of the best skate parks in San Jose besides Lake Cunningham Skate park. The half pipe is awesome to work on stalls on roller skates. In general the park could be maintained better, even thought there is a community center, they tend to avoid everything behind it. Chicks in Bowls San Jose-Ca has adopted the skate park to maintain it clean with the skate park and surrounding areas of it.

Ghetto skate park well tagged in Nortenos territory

Ghetto park - skip it. My son is on an adventure this summer to skate at all the local skateparks. I knew this neighborhood is rough hence why we made a 9am visit during the week before the gangbangers woke up. The skatepark and the soccer fields are poorly maintained. Graffiti is all over the skatepark - not cool creative graffiti but tags everywhere with the nortenos gangs name tagged all over in red. Ok guys I know this is your hood, the one tag that is 7 feet long was big enough for me to read you didn't have to tag it 50 more times! There were a few derelicts who were annoyed that this mommy bear was supervising everybody while her son skated and scootered. One or two guys were scooter ing and skating but the rest were just hanging waiting for their homies. We had some verbal exchange - good with one 20-something but the other one...well we had a little attitude adjusting session. So my son skated for 30 minutes and we left before the real punks woke up and showed up. It's too bad because the entire park and community center has potential, but it's so sketchy that I wouldn't even leave my car parked here unattended. The one cool thing is that there is a Panaderia around the corner and we stopped in and had some hot pan Mexicano dulce. Otherwise skip this place.

What kind of park has a zipline?!? THIS ONE. Two seating options, one with a harness for toddlers,…read morethe other for older kids (I even saw adults using this). The park also offers a fun and inclusive space for children, with climbing structures, sturdy cement slides, swings for both toddlers and older youth, a see-saw, merry-go-round, trampoline, and spongy material making up the ground's surface. The occasional squirrel, lizard, and butterfly too. As an adult simply looking for a place to relax while waiting for my car at an auto shop nearby, I was pleasantly surprised to find this park accommodating. Dirt and concrete trails weaving through the garden, lovely vegetation in spring, and a good amount of picnic tables and benches scattered throughout. Also, a shady area with fake grass and seats made out of smoothed-out logs and tree trunks, as well as adirondack chairs where I was able to hang out and nap while I was there. It wasn't too crowded or crazy on a Friday morning, though it got busier as it neared noon time. In addition, the place offers a parking lot and clean restrooms for convenience.

The play garden has everything kiddos love -- slides, one seesaw, one round spinner, one rope climbing thing (that can also spin), swings (bucket and standard), small water play area, and a Zipline (one for little kids 3+ and one for older kids). They also have an area with tables, where someone was having a party (no idea if reservations are needed though). Expect to wait in line for a turn of the park is crowded. The play garden is fenced off from the rest of the park. They have a restroom on site. They have a small parking lot that is nearby the entrance of the play garden. I noticed some people parked on a smaller side street and walked over. I'm not sure what other parking options there are otherwise. We would return if we're in the area again and if it's less busy. It's a solid park and play area for those who live nearby.

Located inside Balboa Park, you can tour the museums in the area, but don't forget to stop and take a moment to smell the flowers at the Japanese Friendship Garden... There were so many beautiful birds, butterflies, koi, and plants I've never seen before. The grounds were very clean and well manicured. Pricing to get in was about $60 for a family of 4 (including student pricing for our children) which may be a bit steep if you have young children with thin patience.. however, if you are able to come in and find your Zen for a couple hours, this is the spot to do so. They offer free crafts for visitors- when we were there they were doing an origami workshop, which seemed very fun. However, our kids weren't up For it- so we did not participate. Would definitely visit again in the future!

Such a pocket of beauty in the neighborhood.

America's Best Rose Garden Run by Volunteers!!!…read more This is a beautiful 5.5-acre rose garden officially recognized as "America's Best Rose Garden." It features over 3,500 shrubs and around 200 varieties, with about 75% being hybrid teas. The garden has an interesting history: it was once a prune orchard purchased by the San Jose City Council in 1927, thanks to advocacy from the Santa Clara County Rose Society. Today, it also serves as an official All-America Rose Selections (AARS) display garden, where new award-winning rose varieties are tested before public release. The layout is classic and park-like, with a two-tiered fountain and mature, decades-old trees that add to the atmosphere. Some standout roses that I enjoy, include: * Rosa 'Handel' (climbing rose): Soft pink, slightly ruffled blooms that look great climbing fences or arches. Light fragrance, subtle but nice up close. * 'Camille Pissarro': Super eye-catching striped petals in pink, red, yellow, and cream. Looks like a painting. Mild scent. * "Make Me Blush" (hybrid tea): Clean, soft blush-pink rose with a neat classic shape. Light, gentle fragrance. * "Perfect Moment" (hybrid tea): Very polished, classic rose form with rich color and that "traditional rose" look. Noticeable floral scent. * "Double Delight": Creamy white with red edges that deepen in the sun. Each bloom looks a bit different. Strong, sweet spicy fragrance: one of the most fragrant ones there. A pleasant surprise is that the garden is entirely volunteer-run. Volunteers actively work to preserve heritage roses, even rescuing and propagating rare varieties from old cemeteries, abandoned homesteads, and rural roadsides. Practical info: * Parking: free street parking with no time limit * Hours: daily, 8am to 30 minutes after sunset * Restrooms: available (clean, basic, and well-stocked) * Dogs: not allowed * Yoga: permitted if non-commercial * Alcohol: not permitted * Photography: casual photography and picnics are free, but professional shoots require a $100 permit Overall, it's a peaceful, well-maintained garden with both botanical depth and historical character, especially enjoyable for rose enthusiasts or anyone looking for a quiet walk among carefully preserved varieties.

It's not a park to have a hardcore hike but one could definitely get a good 'walk' in as the trails are easy and the crowd is generally comprised of locals from the neighborhood. I have successfully completed a 5 mile "hike" multiple times here -- just had to keep walking up and down, and all around. The park also has workout stations -- although, many of them are closed right now due to COVID19 but an average person could get a good cardio workout and get in some strength based exercises here (pull-up bars, etc.). Parking is easy as this park is aligned with a huge residential area. P.S. there are no public restrooms with the exception of seasonal porta potties so you should probably go before you plan on visiting. P.S.S. this park is popular for youngsters to "be youngsters" after hours so be cognizant if you're trying to plan a romantic date.
