I want to preface this by stating that I really like this establishment & its staff. I sometimes stop in just for a chai latte & a treat. Once in a while I have a meal here, especially when my daughter visits we like to go after church on Sunday and have brunch. This restaurant's food is unreal. Everything is fresh, and you can tell they truly care about the quality of their ingredients. The chicken on sourdough was amazing! I ordered the mango chutney turkey wrap- it was a little odd but I appreciate that Root31 is going for healthy options despite being a fast food approach. Imagine cold mango jam with a mouthful of raw spinach. All in a cold wrap. it's a little jarring in texture and flavor contrast. I almost can't remember if there was indeed turkey because I was just so busy trying to get past the sweet jammy raw leaf. Dining experience has always been pretty good. Customer service not so much. We moved out of state, a very exhausting task so we weren't thinking about all the little things like updating or cancelling our rewards with Root 31. No problem right? Wrong. We are still receiving rewards mailed to us via forwarding email. This is mildly annoying and a waste of Root 31's resources. A simple phone call should fix all of this right? Wrong again. They have been called twice and both times the answer was no. I fully realize that this isn't earth shattering, but it is very annoying. It was a mistake to return to Root 31 today. After waking up at 3 a.m. for a long day of travel, I was looking forward to returning to my hometown and grabbing a late lunch at Root 3, a place I thought I could trust. I ordered a veggie wrap at about 1:30 on a not-busy-at-all Friday. As I caught up on email and plotting out the rest of my day, I kept my grumbling stomach at bay. After a while I noticed that two couples who came in after I did were already eating. I checked my receipt and it was exactly 30 minutes after I placed my order. When I went to the cashier to ask what was going on, she returned to tell me that they hadn't started it yet, somehow my order got lost. That is inexcusable. I was better off literally choosing any where else. I asked for my money back, which they complied with, and left so I would not waste any more time there. I learned my lesson. Great selection of freshly made salads flatbread pizzas Panini's and soup specials of the day. A little on the pricey side but portions are large. I'll warn you if you order a soda it's $3.50!! Skip that and drink their free water that they infuse with different fruits and herbs each day. We got to try the strawberry lemon which was delicious I loved the compost heap of the day... A great idea for meal prepping. The beets and sweets looked fabulous as well And the third person in our group enjoyed her Cobb salad. I like stopping in to Root31 when I'm shopping in or around Pittsford Plaza. They have a big menu, and the ingredients are always fresh. There's a great selection of drinks too, many from local places like Fiz and Rorhbach's. While I like a lot about this place, there are some off-putting things going on here. For example, during my most recent visit I asked if my wrap and my husband's sandwich came with chips and a pickle, and the cashier said he "thought" they did. If he didn't know, couldn't he find out? (FYI - I got chips and a pickle, my husband got chips but no pickle.) It's also a little pricey for what it is. I spent $28.94 for a wrap, a sandwich, and 2 fountain drinks. The Thai tofu wrap is delicious, if a bit overpriced for $9.90. I love the spicy peanut sauce, carrots and fresh spinach. There are no napkins at the drink machine, but they are brought to you along with your meal. And the strangest part - there are bins for compost, recyclables, and dishes/silverware, but no trash. I love eco-friendly companies, but not everything is compostable or recyclable, like chip bags and receipt paper. Their setup is a wasted effort because I saw compostables in the recycle bin, recyclables in the compost, and garbage in both. Not serving single bags of chips would be a great move in the environmental direction. In short: good food, weird execution. read more

A good, low-key restaurant option in Pittsford Plaza, but I probably would not come here for any other reason. The physical space is nice, clean and modern. It's also a very casual environment. So it's a good place to catch a bite to eat before or after a movie. I ordered a chicken gyro sandwich, which was okay, but not the best. My girlfriend had a cream of corn soup that she enjoyed, but I thought was a bit on the watery side. The food wasn't bad, it just wasn't memorable. I ate here last weekend and it was good...not great as the egg sandwich was a little too salty. No biggie. The wrap, which I ate later, was spectacular. I call in this morning and place a pickup order. The gal on the phone seemed irritated that I was calling. Again, no biggie as we all have bad days. Upon arrival I'm told that I didn't place an order. I show her my phone where I called and her response was, "That's fine, but I do NOT have your order." That's it, I'm done. I'm ok with people having bad days but service this poor drives me away. She made no effort to solve the issue or even ask me what I ordered to have it expedited. A few weeks ago I came for breakfast with out of town visitors. There was a small line and took forever to order. Then as we sat down we realized there was a whole other brunch menu on easel when you walked in. WHY NOT HAVE THIS AT THE COUNTER WHEN YOU ORDER? My DIL wanted something different than her original order so then went back up and waited in line again and got her other food to go and ordered a different breakfast. So we all ate at different times and because she waited in line so long barely got to visit. So I decided to try again cuz some of the items looked good. I asked about a dish that had banana and walnuts. The cashier had no idea what I was talking about. So I ordered plain French toast. I found A table to sit. It was dirty. I asked for a wipe or something to clean it - she gave me a dry napkin. I got a coffee and wanted it in a mug that was filthy and needed to be washed. Everything the staff did was painstakingly odd and slow. The crazy, part is the line became 10 or 15 people with kids and they only have one person working the register and every order is slowly taken while 2 girls just stand there waiting to run food and no food is ready cuz ordering so so slow. Nothing made sense. Anyway the French toast came and it was ok so that part was okay. Just know your patience will be tested. I did see several people leave the line and go elsewhere. In the future. Working evenings and finding to go options is always a chore. A person can only eat pizza and burgers so many times before you run out of options. Tonight we tried root31 for the first time and were pleasantly impressed. My better half is a huge fan of healthy options when it comes to meals, and was thoroughly impressed with their menu options. They have everything from vegetarian meals to burgers. We opted for the roasted turkey sandwich on rye and the Reuben sandwiches. Portions were perfect for the price and delicious. They also had quite a few bottled drinks...mostly teas. The staff was very friendly and the food was ready when they said it would be, and fresh. I've been here multiple times and have always had a great experience. The menu is posted on the wall behind the registers. They also have physical menus that you can bring to a table to look at, but there is no table service. You order at the counter, get a #, and the cashier will bring the food to you once it's ready. Vegan and vegetarian items are labeled as so. They have a lot of options for food and beverages. Their smoothies are delicious and can be made with soy, same with the lattes. Their food has always been fresh tasting and large portions. Prices are good for the sizes! This visit, I got the daily compost pile. It was roasted veggies on top of raw veggies with quinoa. I got the balsamic dressing. The serving was so large, I ate it on 2 separate occasions. I also enjoyed the berry smoothie, which has a great flavor. Not too sweet. Sorry thats kind of cheesy If I had to describe this place it's definitely on the Panera/corner bakery spectrum but a little bit more refined as they serve wine and have more hot food items. I never get quesadillas but was compelled to order the chicken one here and it was fantastic. I chose a whole wheat tortilla and was filled with hot melted cheddar, white meat chicken chunks, black beans..all the ingredients were fresh, the tortilla crisp, and plated very well. Oh and whatever you do order one of the chocolate chip cookies for dessert! This gigantic cookie I ate before my quesadilla came out and was powerless to stop myself. Soft, chocolatey, gooey....I'd come here just for the cookies. Some reviews describe this place as fast...we came here on a sunday afternoon during a relatively off peak time and waited about 20-25 minutes for our wrap and quesadilla to come out. There was also only 1 cashier who was also bringing peoples food out. Dealing with pittsford plaza is a loathesome chore that I try to avoid, so it would take at least a few stars aligning for me to come back here, but yea I could see how it is some peoples cup of tea read more

Went in for a quick dinner before a movie, and Root 31 delivered! The Cuban sandwich and Reuben were both superb: quality meat, good bread and proportions, melty cheese done just right. We rounded out the meal with the beets and sweets salad which was one of the best salads I've had in a while! Dressing not too oily, not too vinegary. I've been here quite a few times. I really only go when I'm shopping in the plaza. Everything is good, but I wouldn't really say I personally crave anything on the menu. I've had the turkey avocado BLT and it was good but for a sandwich with some chips it was just so expensive. Same for the grilled cheese. I just have a hard time paying $9+ for cheese and bread. I know there are a lot of other business costs built into that grilled cheese and I wouldn't begrudge a business charging those very real fees, but I just personally can't buy a grilled cheese for that much. Go ahead and judge me... Both the veggie and the chicken burritos are extra delicious... and I really like that they toast the top of the wrap, but I wouldn't say I have to get back to this place for any reason other than I'm in the area and it's quick and easy. I will say, I've seen the pizzas and they look amazing. I'll keep going back when I'm in the area because I haven't had a bad meal here at all. I had the Thai tofu wrap which came with tofu (obviously), Thai peanut sauce, and fresh greens in a tortilla. It was a very generous amount of tofu. It was served with a little bag of kettle cooked chips and the best pickle I have ever had. The prices were good, and the cafe was very clean. It wasn't the type of place where you would settle in for an hour or two, in my opinion, but maybe that's what they are going for: a quick and fresh lunch that doesn't take up too much time but gets you what you need. This restaurant is definitely super healthy and delicious, but it can be a little pricey. I think of it as the more expensive Panera. It's definitely high quality food and super fresh, but also fairly small portions. I got the Figaro sandwich ($9.50) which is shaved ribeye steak with red onions, tomatoes, blue cheese and steak sauce. It was tasty but I didn't really see any blue cheese on my sandwich which was disappointing. My friend also ordered their Root31 burger ($8.90). It took like 3x as long for my friend to get her burger as it did for me to get my sandwich. They both were good but not amazing. I came here once a few years ago, tried the Caesar salad and remember not liking it. Still, I figured I'd give this place one more try since I was catching s movie at Pittsford cinema. I got a Thai tofu wrap. Needless to say it, was bad. It didn't taste remotely Thai - just salty and peanuty. I ended up throwing out half of it. If this place were cheap, I could probably look past this, but for like $12 for a wrap, it's not cheap. I think the problem is that their menu is too big and they don't seem to do anything well (at least nothing I've tried).
