Make Your Own Salad
LoiLoi F.

As a healthy-inspired foodie, this quaint salad bar was truly the best fast-casual meal I had ever had! Unknown to the fact that Rooted3 was completely vegan, they offered amazing, uncommon snacks, bevs, merch, and more! Their options of bases, sides, toppings, and dressings were absolutely delicious! For the first time, I had rainbow carrots, quinoa in a salad, and actual lentils in salad too! The Kale and broccoli were delish as well! Totally check them out! (would drive 30 min for this!)

Found this from the Savor Bethesda Restaurant Week. There was a convenient shop selling souvenirs, food and drinks. The food menu took the wall on the left and the smoothie menu took the right hand side. Each $20 lunch included the Fresh Organic Wrap (original price $12.49) and Air Fried Cauliflower Bites (original price $7.35). So, the restaurant week is actually more expensive than regular price!!! The cauliflower bites were interesting. The in-house sauces were good. The wrap was in multiple smaller wraps, so was difficult to hold if the ingredients had some liquid. The bowl was actually better than the wrap. They also advertised that all non-eatable were compostable.

Great little restaurant, especially if you want to eat healthy. Molly was sweet, and Andre was a star, just as Molly had promised. He walked us through the options with great knowledge and enthusiasm. The lunch bowl he said was very popular had at least ten different plants in it, which is 1/3 of what the "experts" say you should eat in a week. The coffee was good too, which was a bonus. There's a little store there with unique items, including fancy mushroom growing kits, which would make excellent gifts for kids or housewarming. Everything is compostable there, even the plastic bowls, which I find to be very interesting. See the photo I've uploaded. I've also put the menu there, in case you're interested. I don't understand the two-star review from Adam L. in March, 2025. This is a small place that is clean, organized, with excellent services and unique offerings. A two-star rating without any stated complaint is a bit mean, Adam. I wouldn't just say your bow tie looks stupid without saying why I thought it looks stupid. This place is conveniently located, by the way, steps from one of those Bethesda public parking garages. Highly recommended.

I have been here at least 5 times now and have tried multiple things and love it all. The staff are super friendly and helpful. The owners are lovely. The selection is great. The place is quiet and clean. I love coming here! Highly recommend.

I finally made my way to Rooted3 which is an all vegan business in Bethesda. They have some premade bowl options as well as custom bowls available. I was most impressed with their well stocked market of specialty vegan snacks, sauces, and drinks. I got to Rooted3 at 6pm on a weekday. There was plenty of indoor and outdoor seating available for myself and friends to enjoy dinner together. I was surprised at this hour they were almost out of all the protein options for the bowls. I was able to assemble a bowl still, but maybe I need to visit next time at a different hour to ensure they are ready for the dinner rush. I made a custom bowl with red lentil pasta, pretty much every veggie topping available that was not at a premium price, massaged kale, and I tried a cauliflower samosa fritter, mushroom fritter, Buffalo fritter, and cowboy fritter. These fritters look similar to falafel and are the protein for the bowls. You get to pick 4 of those protein options and they do let you mix and match so you can try multiple flavors in one bowl. For dressing I picked the spicy cilantro. I thought the bowl was a pretty generous size and I loved that there was no limit on veggies to add. I do think that the protein balls/fritters could use some improvement. They look so pitifully small in the bowl. I honestly would have preferred to just add some baked tofu as my protein over these fritters. I think tofu would stand out more and this bowl has so much flavor already that adding these fritters is kind of a waste as their individual flavor gets lost among all the other ingredients. I love how many sauces are available to finish off the bowl. I definitely want to come back to try more custom bowl options. If you visit Rooted3 I highly recommend bringing some shopping bags to snag up the goodies in their market. They have so many vegan snack options and hard to find specialty sauces. It was so much fun browsing their selection. Overall I had a good experience at Rooted3 but they also have room for improvement. I think they need to improve having ingredients well stocked during normal busy hours. 6pm is a pretty standard dinner time and they were almost completely out of fritters and had some other ingredients like the red lentil pasta that was almost completely out. Also, I think that the fritters could be improved. They really got lost in the bowl and that isn't what you want as the main protein source for the meal. I do thank this business for opening as I love supporting vegan businesses. I think they have a lot of potential and just need some fine tuning so more nonvegans give them a try.

My dad and I were looking for somewhere to eat dinner when we saw this cute modern vegan restaurant. I was skeptical at first about the vegan aspect but once I tried their food I was won over. I had one of their "make your own" bowls. It was so good the server was so nice and recommended certain ingredients that would go well together. My favorite were the harissa fritters, crunchy onions and pickled onions, would definitely come here again with my whole family, so we could all experience the tasty cuisine!!

You know what you're getting with this store! Fresh, healthy, vegan, fast casual. The menu has a good variety of options from bowls to smoothies to coffee. We enjoyed our cowboy bowl and cornbread jalapeno bowl. The blueberry lemon spritzer left something to be desired, like agave or honey - something to lift the bitterness. The ladies serving the bowls were super friendly and helpful with recommendations. The market is a cute touch. Both indoor and outdoor seating available at lunchtime on a friday, although it certainly wasn't empty either. I wouldn't go out of my way to come to this restaurant, but would come back again if I were in the neighborhood.

I was really excited to check out Rooted3! It's rare to find a place that is so allergen friendly. Unfortunately I left pretty disappointed. I arrived around 6pm on a week night and the food was pretty dried out, especially the fritters and roasted broccoli. It was difficult to chew and tasted almost stale, not fresh. There was only one other customer in the cafe the whole time I was there so I get the sense that business was slow, therefore not much turn over of the food. I ordered a bowl and fries and I didn't mind having to wait 10-15 minutes for the fries because they were going to be fresh. However when they arrived they were cooked to a crisp and so difficult to chew. The staff were so kind and I loved the market which was a redeeming factor. The inside is so cute and airy, super clean. But given the lack of freshness of the food, I'm a bit disappointed.

Such a great addition to the neighborhood! Everything was fresh and delicious, the portions were big, the staff was friendly, and there were so many interesting and unique vegan proteins and sauces to try. I can't wait to go back and try more of the menu and pick up some of the market items.

More Snacks

Visiting Bethesda for the first time and I'm blown away by Rooted3! The food is incredibly fresh and healthy, with no dairy or fried food, and you get a very healthy portion for the price paid. In addition, they have a large selection of unique and healthy drinks, snacks ready to go and the atmosphere/decor compliments the food very well. This place is worthy of becoming a chain and would love for one to open in the Fort Lee area in NJ, close to the GW Bridge. While there are local, healthy food joints like Rooted3, this is simply a level above in food options, unique recipes by the owner and cleanliness. Please come to Jersey soon!!

PLANTA Bethesda - FIRECRACKER ROLL I think

A couple of our vegetarian friends really wanted to try Planta, and so we decided to hold our…read moreFriday night date night there. (Yes, we bring friends with us on date night. We are weird.) Although my husband and I are omnivores we appreciate good plant based food, and since many had said it was good, we had high hopes. Fortunately, Planta lived up to our expectations. We made reservations, since we'd heard it can be hard to get a table. Even though it was a Friday night, we could have gotten a table. But, it was also raining so that might have contributed to lower traffic. We ended up getting a bunch of food to share: Spinach & artichoke dip Bang Bang Broccoli Thousand layer potatoes Spicy Tuna Roll Volcano Roll Red Dragon Roll Unagi Nigiri (I didn't try this one, but everyone else raved about it) My husband had the Emperor's Old Fashioned, friends had the Lych Please and the Pom and Get It. I, as designated driver, had a Cosmic Colada followed by the House Mint Lemonade (and I had a sip of the Lych Please just to taste it.) My favorites were the Bang Bang Broccoli, the Spicy Tuna Roll, and to my surprise, the Thousand Layer Potatoes. I also loved the House Mint Lemonade. The broccoli managed to not actually taste like broccoli, it tasted like Fried with Peanut Sauce. (No, there is not a missing word there. It tasted like Fried.) I usually don't get excited about potatoes unless they are twice baked or the amazing potato salad from Polka deli, but these potatoes were actually really good. Sliced, layered, not exactly crispy except on the edges, but super tasty much to my surprise. I'd actually order them again. The Spicy Tuna Roll tasted nothing like tuna, nor did it taste like watermelon per se but it was delicious. The notes of coconut probably played a role in my assessment. Folks in general were less enamored of the Volcano roll than the other dishes and I concurred. It wasn't bad, it just was lackluster compared to the others. It tasted kind of like a salad dressed with a lack of oomph. While I personally liked the spinach & artichoke dip, the folks in the party who aren't coconut-o-philes thought it had too much of a coconut taste. I've never met a coconut I didn't like though so this didn't bother me. I would order the Lych Please if I weren't driving, it was good - sweet but not too sweet. The Cosmic Colada wasn't bad but I probably wouldn't order it again either. It had less of the coconut flavor than I hoped for and a lot more just "juice" flavor. If I'm not driving next time I'll just suck down the house mint lemonades instead. All in all, it was good. I'd definitely come back and order some of these items again and hopefully try some others. I absolutely will bring my close vegan friend here next time she's in town!

My daughter has a service dog and they wouldn't let her in without documentation despite her dog's vest. Daughter had to dig through her email and produce a Dr's note. I guess they have to be careful but they have to find a way to do that that avoids guest humiliation. Another time we had reservations for Valentine's Day and they had overbooked so they turned us away at the door. Would have appreciated a phone call in advance. Left us in a tough spot with our guests, which really stung. Another time we had a fantastic waiter who made our dinner very special. So I find them undependable. That combined with their high prices keeps me mostly away.
