This place has so many little tidbits for living the good life, they could rename it 'Good Life Station' or 'Good Life Company' -- for the company you will keep, and how this company keeps you ... fed, nourished, and I might even say acknowledged! I found the staff to be impressively knowledgeable and encouraging. I got a small bottle of a beautiful, snowy sake in a frosted blue bottle, an Italian spritzer-type thing, a boxed Merlot -- never tried such a thing before! -- and a sour cherry lambic-like drink, plus smoked Gruyere for later pizza-making, lavender-herb easily spreadable goats' milk cheese, and a selection of olives, feta, pickled red and green peppers and lemon in one handy-dandy small and portable, easy-to-use box! I really lived it up with these items out on the porch at home later .... I greatly enjoyed my meal of Beet and Grilled Apricot salad with creamy cilantro dressing (substitute for vinaigrette), and candied pecans -- all so very mmm! I love beets and must get almost any beet salad that may potentially come my way -- and here, I had two to choose from! The one I got was a special so not always available. The peaches in it were hard enough that they didn't mush-n-gush all over. They were easy to pick up with a fork and bite without them splashing or sliding all oozy-goozy- all over the place, and they had the nice dark marks of grilling right on them, visibly, for proof of having been grilled! That was fun to see. My dining partner had the fish tacos and apparently, those were very good. The table service was really nice, friendly, professional, skilled, and knowledgeable. I wouldn't say the food was exactly prepared swiftly but I also wasn't paying attention so I'm not sure -- because I was too busy browsing and purchasing items in the adjoining store to notice when the food even arrived. I wasn't there, but buying my deliciousness-to-go! What a wonderful time-saver! It was not too loud when I was there, the sunlight was streaming in the rather large windows, and I had a great time looking at the nice lighting fixtures, perusing goods, speaking with staff, and of course eating my most delicious salad! Friendly local bar/wine and restaurant with three good-sized TVs to watch the Olympics and your favorite sports. Not a lot of patrons (or parking, oddly) when we stopped in at 1pm during the howling weekend winds. While the lean staff of two were friendly and attentive, the food was NOT served hot and really missed the mark. A real bummer on a cold day, when we were looking for something to get us out of the home. I live in the Kensington area and had been meaning to try this spot. Hadn't gone because I was unsure about the ambience. Wasn't sure if I needed to dress up, be casual etc. I had the perfect opportunity to visit last night. There's ample parking in the back, if all spots are taken there are spots across the street too. We walked in and were immediately greeted and seated. We ordered the figgy piggy flatbread, chicken tenders with fries and the steak frites and desserts. The flatbread was yummy! I enjoyed it very much. The steak frites smelled delicious ! Even the couple next to us ordered this same dish based on the smell alone. The fries were crispy and very flavorful. The steak (ordered medium) wasn't as flavorful as I would've liked. It also wasn't as tender. I tried my niece's chicken tenders and they were ok. Nothing special, not as crispy. They were more stringy and dry. We ordered desserts too! Tiramisu and crème brûlée. Both delicious ! The ambience is casual. The people are friendly (Kensington is a very friendly place !). I have been coming here for the last few years and the experience has been pretty good. Last night however was disappointing. My friend and I shared an order of onion rings-which were meh at best. I decided to go with the junior burger with fruit not wanting to eat a huge burger. That was a mistake. The burger was way over cooked and the fruit...apparently they serve fruit cocktail and not fresh fruit. It took ages to get our waitress to check on us. She appeared to be more interested in The World Cup. When she did come by, I told her my burger had been overcooked. She took it and the fruit cocktail away without saying much. The burger that came in its place was pink...from way overdone to way underdone. Neither one of which I could eat. A complaint to the manager was in order. He listened and explained they always cook the kids' burgers well done and they serve fruit cocktail when someone orders fruit. He was willing to take the burger off our bill and offered something else instead. Not wanting to have three bad meals, I declined his offer. He offered a free dessert...that's why I am giving this place 2 stars. The dessert was okay. But, it might be a while til I come back here. read more

Cute spot with decent food, TVs and nice staff but food was okay. We ordered a bottle of Riesling, cheese board, mac and cheese, a burger and black bean burger. Cheese was extra $1 and the corkage fee (to unscrew our bottle) was $15. Although I find the price steep, they asked in advance if the corkage fee was okay. I thought it would be $10 or something since it's not a fancy restaurant. The burgers came with fries. Overall they weren't that great. One burger was a bit burnt and the black bean burger was dry. The Mac and cheese and cheese board was great. I also felt like we were being rushed out but I didn't realize it was starting to get very busy. We weren't done eating and the staff would come around to try and take our plates. One time they asked to take our cheese board as we were eating from it. Overall, people are nice and the wine is good. I'll have to try something else on the menu next time and avoid the hefty corkage fee. read more

I came here for dinner with 3 other gals and we had a fun time and good meals. The Brussels sprouts appetizer was bought for the table and it was pretty good. There was bacon and balsamic glaze on it, but it wasn't the most flavorful Brussels sprouts dish I've ever had. Good though. Diner 1 had a salmon BLT and loved it. I tasted the salmon and it was pretty good. Diner number 2 had pulled pork and said it was really good. It was piled high in a bun and looked good. Diner number 3 had a cheeseburger and said it was juicy and delish. I had the grilled chicken sandwich with provolone melted on top. It was a huge piece of chicken breast but a little dry. Very tasty but a little dry. I think it was a little overcooked. All our sandwiches came with fries and we all loved them. Yum! We were too full for dessert but things at other tables looked good! This place is also a wine bar and shop and although we didn't partake, I plan to the next time- when I'm not the designated driver. I will go back to try a few more things. It was going to take me an hour to get home so I said absolutely not, so I decided to stay local and find somewhere new to visit, and I stumbled upon this place. It's been here for a long time -- no idea how it was never on my radar. The weather was delightful, and I ideally I wanted to be outside. but it's okay. This place doubles as a wine bar/restaurant and store. They have rotating local beers as well (20 at a time), with non-alcoholic options. There were a couple of different menus, including the main one and some ongoing specials. The sign outside mentioned happy hour, but none of these menus said that, but it was okay -- I knew what I wanted. I wasn't hungry, so I just got a wine flight and enjoyed a sancerre (very similar to a sauvignon blanc), albarino, and malbec. It was a lovely selection, and I just overall enjoyed the vibe of the place as I sipped. Someone came in as I was about to leave and got the most scrumptious looking plate of fried fish -- I wish I was hungry haha. And she said it was delicious. Knowles Station has been on my bucket list for a while. I finally made it in on a rainy Saturday afternoon and was lucky to find a parking spot right out front. The store itself is small, though has an impressive variety of beers, wines, non-alcoholic beverages, ciders, and meads. There were more people working here than patrons, I think the weather played a role in that it was not all that busy. They have a bunch of tables. There were 20 taps and about half of them were IPAs. I had a fruited beer from Founders and it was delicious. We ordered some food and while the pictures online looked pretty good, one bite of my fried chicken sandwich confirmed that while it looks delicious, it tasted like diner food. It was fine, but nothing memorable or worth recommending. My husband got the special, a grilled cheese with bacon sandwich which looked like someone burnt a corner and then forgot the sandwich was supposed to be grilled. He offered me a bite and it was the saddest grilled cheese I've had in years. Overall, come for the drinks but maybe save your appetite for another restaurant. read more

It was a Friday eve and I wanted to try this spot for my birthday- after seeing lobster roll on the menu on the fb menu. Temps were in the 80s not 100s so we chose to eat outdoors. Tried the gazpacho, liver pate and deviled eggs to start. I would return here just for deviled eggs!! They were flavorful, textured (with the roe on top) artistic and pretty much the best I've had! Just perfect. Gazpacho was just okay. Tasted flat and almost artificial. Liver Pate was interesting and tasty and was served w crusty bread and garnishes. Lobster Roll--I was not expecting Maine or Martha's Vineyard amazingness and it was still disappointing. Not packed with meat, meat rubbery and tasteless. It was served with aioli sauce on the side which helped it and a lobster roll should be amazing without sauce added. Pasta with cheese, broccolini and shrimp was tasty (to me) and my foodie dining companion said that the greens slightly overwhelmed the dish. Crème brûlée was light, not overly sweet and refreshing. We stumbled onto Knowles Station a couple of years ago and have really enjoyed every meal we've had there. We always start with their tasty deviled eggs. (2nd only to Firebirds for us.) Today we had pulled pork sandwich - very good - piled high - good sauce - good flavor and crab cake sandwich - nice - a true "Maryland crabcake" - plenty of crab - very little filliing. The accompanying fries were perfectly seasoned and prepared. The service was excellent, not overbearing, but there when you needed anything. The manager was also attentive. The setting is a bar and a wine store, with smalllish tables scattered throughout. The upstairs section is not accessible (we are old and use assistive devices). Their menu is American classic, with interesting snacks, salads, sides, sandwiches, what they call "plates" (including fish tacos, house-made falafel, and NY Strip). The kids section looks inviting and for a fee adults can also enjoy items like mac n' cheese, chicken fingers and quesadilla. I think it's a bit pricey - our two sandwiches with deviled egg appetizer, a beer and a soft drink came to $64 before tip. Pricey, but worth it, we think. Try it! read more

We've been twice to Knowles Station and are big fans! It's such a cute little wine shop- a bit pricier than others in the area but you're also getting curated selections from around the world that you can't find at your local beer and wine store. On Mondays they have no corkage fee so go in, pick a bottle, sit down and enjoy! Their menu is pretty spot on. Big big fan of the fried calamari- it's light and crispy and comes with two of the best sauces I've ever had (siracha honey and old bay aioli). The steak frites we had ordered came out waaaaaaaaaayyyy over cooked and I was planning to still enjoy but the bartender noticed and insisted he get it redone (or less done!). It was perfect the next time. Things happen- and they fixed it- all that matters to me! A bartender we had one time (I wish I had gotten his name but he had a septum piercing) was phenomenal in recommending different glasses for us. I love when they do that! I mean it's a wine bar- explain what and why I should drink that one! Definitely a place we will return to, and it's a great addition to Kensington! read more

My friend and I were looking to have a Guinness Stout on tap, so I checked my Untappd app and found that Knowles Station was the closest venue currently pouring Guinness. It was a quiet afternoon, so we decided to sit at the bar. The venue is really nice, I like the design a lot. We had a great service from our bartender, Ethan, which also included some excellent conversation! I also loved that Ethan was trained on how to properly pour a Guinness Stout We had some food, which was absolutely delicious! We aren't in Kensington often, but this little gem of a spot offers aesthetics, a robust draft selection and surprising wine selection- with an interesting yet thoughtful and well executed menu. Bao buns are viet (Vietnamese) and flip (Filipino) approved. If you are asian you understand and appreciate the difference of both sides approving. Then move to chili cup which was also spot on flavor and depth. Well done as we move from Bao to chili. Also for the white wine lovers, splurge on the Sancerre sauvignon blanc- if you like Sauvignon blanc like I do- it was worth the that next level and we decided to buy a bottle from the store to take home. Also happy to see viogner on the wine list- although I find the blends best. This was a nice pair down for the key lime pie. Perhaps I should have stayed with the first. I was looking for a buttery Chardonnay and a moscato to celebrate my new move and the staff were incredibly helpful. Service was adequate but a little cold and uninterested. Our waiter tried to memorize our 9 drink orders and mixed up a few things. The ambience was very pleasant. We sat upstairs on the balcony. That earned it two stars. The food was very disappointing. We had pulled Pork, caesar salad, Cobb salad, 3 different flatbreads, chicken sandwich, fish tacos, chicken fingers and a burger. The only thing worth eating per our experience was the calamari. All of the flat breads were thick and not warm in the middle. Almost everything tasted liked it had marinated in vinegar. It was unfortunately an unpleasant experience that we are not likely to repeat. Perhaps they're more of a wine store than a restaurant. However I'm familiar with this type of establishment and my other experiences have included much better food. If you want to scratch this itch and you're looking for yummy nosh, I recommend BrewBelly in Olney or Beers and Cheers too in Gaithersburg. Sorry Knowles Station. Wow the food here was not amazing. I was disappointed all around. We had a party of 9 so I got to try a variety of dishes and unfortunately there was no shining star. Flatbreads - not thin or remotely crispy. The centers weren't even warm. They were thick like a puffy pita bread and only the very edges were toasted. The toppings all tasted of vinegar. We tried all 3 types. Chicken fingers - chicken was stringy and difficult to bite through and they tasted of vinegar. Pulled pork - fairly dry. Only slightly tasted of vinegar (which is more acceptable for this dish) Cobb and Caesar salads (with shrimp) were pretty boring. Cobb came with too little dressing and dry chicken and Caesar was over dressed. Fish tacos - I'm allergic to fish and my teen daughter said they were great. But I found that she picked the fish out and tossed the rest of it when it came to the leftovers. There are lots of other options in the area; I would have been happier spending money at Five Guys! read more

We shared a few appetizers and each ordered an entree. I'm not sure I would order the fish tacos again and Dan said the Bao Buns didn't compare to our favorite food truck. We would order the fried pickles again due to the delicious green goddess dipping sauce. I visited another night and enjoyed a few glasses of wine, pimento cheese appetizer and the falafel sandwich. 2nd time at Knowles Station for a bite to eat. First visit the tacos were fine. Everyone else enjoyed their meals but the waiter forgot my husband's soda. Fortunately it wasn't on the bill so we weren't charged. Thought to return for a 2nd meal. This time same waiter wrote down the wrong meal instead of what I ordered. I ordered the seared scallops. The plate comes with about 5 scallops, the cream it was in was very salty. It cost $28 but wasn't worth it. Don't think I'll return but glad we tried the restaurant. read more

I dined here on my lunch break. Service was somewhat slow. The appetizers were pretty good but we were highly disappointed by the size and cost of the salad. I ordered a Greek salad with shrimp and it was 22 dollars. I was ok with the price until I saw the size of salad. The salad is a SIDE salad. So disappointing. My husband and I finally made our way here and enjoyed our meal. The happy hour special isn't amazing, but it does take a dollar off your glass of wine - I'll take it! We had a very attentive server - customer service is A+! Moving to the food, we shared the pork belly buns and the crab cake sandwich. The crab cake sandwich was massive! I enjoyed the pork belly buns (tender and fatty) BUT for the price you pay ($12), it's really more of an appetizer versus an entree size. Just as a FYI, you get two buns! On our next visit, I'd likely order a variety of cheese/meats instead, along with the roast pork sandwich. read more
