My partner and I came for lunch today. Each had a bowl. VegLoaf Bowl ($14.25) plus $1.50 for half brown rice/half greens. I enjoyed it. The veggie meat was very flavorful and moist. The carrot/cabbage and greens were fresh and tasty. I probably wouldn't get the rice again. It was fine, but served mostly to fill me up rather than add flavor. Japanese Katsu Curry Bowl ($15.00) plus $1.00 for greens and $0.50 for extra curry sauce. My partner enjoyed this dish, but thought the curry flavor could have been stronger. Also, they probably wouldn't get the extra sauce again. Overall, good bowls. We'll be back. One disappointment is that there is no way to "build your own bowl." I asked the server, and she said you can ask to substitute an item on one of their main bowls, but there's no "create your own" option. Since you order from a kiosk, it seems that could be straightforward, with the price adjusted based on what you add in, but I guess not here. That will limit the number of times I come here, because I prefer the option for variety. Ordering vis kiosk also doesn't allow you to order the sauce "on the side," which is another unnecessary (IMHO) limitation. read more

I've been coming to St. Veg since they opened, and its my go-to for vegan food in the area. Even though the ownership has changed, the menu is still the same as before. I've tried a lot of things on the menu, and bottom line is I still think their Medley Loaf Combo Bowl is the best entree. I wish there was more loaf! It's so good and has a salty deep umami flavor which goes perfectly well with the shredded medley and other goodies in the bowl. However, there was a bit too much rice and carrot in my opinion this time. Still thought it was pretty good. I also ordered the Japanese Katsu Curry Bowl. I've gotten this one before too and thought it was really good, but today I found the curry a little bland, and again, the rice-to-protein ratio was way off (too much rice). I recently went here for a weekend dinner with a party of four looking for a vegetarian restaurant in the Rockville area. St. Veg is an unassuming restaurant in a shopping strip with minimal decor and a few tables. We were able to get seats and placed our order via a screen. Despite being very few people at St. Veg, it took longer than I would have expected for us to get our food. We shared the following dishes, all of which had good portion sizes and were reasonably priced: Fresh summer rolls: two large rolls per order, which were fine. A peanut sauce would have elevated these rolls substantially. Garlic Dumplings: Well-spiced and hearty, these were my favorite dish that we had. The filling was delicious and the sauce was the perfect accompaniment. Mumbai Bowl: The sauce was spicy and had good flavor, but otherwise the dish had no flavor. Additionally, the rice was poorly cooked. St. Veg Pho: The broth was OK but needed more umami. Additionally, the pho needed more bean sprouts and did not come with lime and Thai basil. I had an amazing experience here! It's in the Fallsgrove shopping center, in the corner, close to Chipotle. When you walk in, it's clean and there are two stations where you can place an order. There was also a young girl in the front who was super helpful when I had questions. The food was incredibly fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with high-quality ingredients. You can really taste the difference--everything felt light yet satisfying. Over $45 later we wish we stayed on i95. We tried the Mumbai Burger with potato bun and tater tots, Japanese Katsu Curry Bowl, and threw in a baked apple pie for dessert. Now, to enjoy this place, you must love flavorless oily salty deep fried food. The katsu, burger patty, and tater tots were deep fried. The curry had no flavor. The rice wasn't Japanese style, it was more like Uncle Ben's. And the burger patty was spicy but flavorless. Hand-grated tater tots? Oily, salty, otherwise tasteless. We hoped the apple pie would save the meal. Nope. It tasted oily as well, so I was surprised to find out it was advertised as baked. I wasn't going to do a review until I learned we spent $45 on this atrocity of a meal. So the only reason we're posting is for other people who want to spend their money on fresh REAL food, not tasteless salty oily deep fried food. Sadly the quality of food has gone down at St. Veg over the years. I used to be an avid long-time customer and enjoy making the trek from McLean. Mom's Caramel Tofu was disappointing, the tofu was really stiff and hard and the rice was very clumpy. The distribution of the ingredients was a bit off and seemed to be thrown together with the tofu, spinach, and rice. The Cauliflower Bites were soggy and thrown in a bag. The No Guilt Burger was very bland. The staff member grumpily greeted me and I seemed to bother her with my take-out order. I paid $50 for 2 subpar dishes, an app, and lavender iced tea. read more

I've been here a handful of times and it really does not disappoint. The tater tots are quite simply the best I've ever had- my husband and both kids agree. They are perfectly cooked- crunchy on the outside, impeccably seasoned and just delish! I got the Flavor Bomb with extra chimichurri sauce- it is perfectly umami and the mushrooms just melt in your mouth- the velvety mushrooms paired with a perfect baguette crunch and the pillowy center of the bread is one I'll come back for. Sadly, there was no Pho broth for dipping, but I don't know that it needs it. I'll let you know the next time I get it. The rest of the fam got the Katsu Bowl and a meatball sub. My husband and I are always on the lookout for a good vegetarian place. This was our first time here and he got the mumbai burger and I got the caramelized tofu with pickled vegetables. Both were really good the Mumbai Burger had just the right amount of Indian spices and the tater tots it came with were nice and crispy. The burger has hot spices too, so be prepared for a little burn. Overall it's a nice "fast food" treat. The tofu was a lot of food I ended up taking half home. The pickled veges and tofu went really well together. I'd definitely get it again. We also got the hot lavender and the lavender lemonade. They were ok, I make this at home sometimes and I feel like mine is a little better so I don't think I'd get drinks again. read more

I have been visiting St Veg for more than a year and I am amazed with how the quality is so consistent. It had been awhile since I enjoyed the Flavor Bomb Pho Dip Sandwich, and after the first bite I was flooded with memories of my first visit to St Veg and why I love this business so much. The service at St Veg is great! You are always greeted with warmth and for fresh made food it comes out pretty fast! St Veg takes no short cuts. Their burger patties, baguettes, tater tots, and proteins are all made in-house. While on the surface this business has a fast causal vibe, the effort put in behind the scenes is tremendous and I am impressed with how efficiently this business runs. Over the years my most purchased meals are for sure the Flavor Bomb Sandwich, Vegloaf Bowl, and the Katsu Curry Bowl. On a "treat yo self" day I get the mushroom BBQ burger because it comes with tots which are too good to not eat all in one sitting. I cannot be trusted with that side by myself. When I go to St Veg in the afternoon I get their coffee because the cashew milk they make from scratch is the best nondairy milk of all time. It makes their coffee taste so heavenly. When I am staying off the caffeine their lavender tea is something I get every visit. It has so much flavor and is the perfect refreshment any time of the year. St Veg always has plenty of seating to accomadate a solo outing or even a large group. I host a vegan meetup monthly and we have packed 20 hungry vegans in without disturbing the normal flow of customers. I am so happy St Veg exists for the vegan community and any nonvegans wanting to try a vegan meal. I was pleasantly surprised that I enjoyed my Shredded Medley banh mi which had tofu, jicama, sweet potato, bean threads, pickled daikon and carrots, cucumber slices, and cilantro. If I didn't know what was in it, I would have thought meat was in there, it was that good and deceptive. The fresh lemonade didn't taste fresh to me and I had to ask for sugar. Orders are placed at one of the two kiosks, however, staff is available for assistance, which I had to ask for. I had one of the worst dining experiences at St. Veg in Rockville. I ordered the pho, and it had a strange, unpleasant taste -- nothing like authentic pho. My husband and I both disliked it immediately. When I asked to return it, the owner flat-out refused, saying she had "investigated" it and decided it was fine. Instead of removing it from the bill, she forced spring rolls on me that I didn't want and never asked for. I ended up ordering something else, which my husband ate, but by then the damage was done. I've had pho all over the world and have never tasted anything this bad. The food was terrible, but the customer service was even worse. Overpriced fast food. The vegetables balls were good but not great. Too much carbs across the menus (meaning that dishes tend to be overpriced for what you get). Also got mini pancakes - I eat organic carrots everyday at home but I didn't find their ingredients super fresh. This place is only worth visiting if you live nearby and want to have lots of carbs as a vegetarian, or you really, really want to support a vegan business. There are lots of super healthy and organic vegetarian salads/hot dishes across the DMV restaurants that will serve vegetarians better in their health and flavor needs. The St. Veg Pho was really nicely packaged, with the veggies and noodles in a tray above the broth. When dumped into the broth, it looked very filling. There was a good ratio of veggies to noodle and broth! It was all very warm, hearty, and tasty! The crispy egg rolls were also great. The sauce paired really well with the egg rolls. It seemed like a soy sauce, but was not overpowering or salty. The one thing I do wish the egg rolls had more of is taro filling. I got these because I was excited about the taro, but I couldn't really taste it. Overall, I would order from St. Veg again. This is one of the best vegan places in Montgomery County that offers great tasting meals with fantastic portions and pricing. Don't sleep on the tater tots, they are literal crack potatoes and the seasoning is perfection. My friend and I got the Medley Loaf Bowl and Vegloaf Banhmi which both contain soy. It was DELICIOUS and super filling. Like I'm not even vegan but I could turn vegan/lean heavily toward a vegan diet if I ate their food everyday. The storefront is a small but there is indoor seating and you order from two kiosks. The super nice guy who was there explained everything was fresh and was super friendly. I've been here multiple times and I'm shocked I haven't left a 5 star review of st veg. It's an absolutely amazing all vegetarian menu restaurant that if you're vegetarian you need to check this place out, and if you're an omnivore, you still need to check this place out. The pho flavor bomb dip has a unique flavor that's definitely got the Vietnamese bbq flavor. The closest I can think of is bulgogi beef. The shredded medley bowl was fantastic with bits of carrot, rice, and other stuff mixed in and wonderful presentation with the slices of cucumber on top. The sunshine cups appetizers were great, very light and comes with a delicious dipping sauce. I may pass on them next time not because they were bad but because they were gone so fast! Okay - since I am not a "vegan" nor a vegetarian, perhaps my review will be helpful to those who turn their nose up at the thought of meat alternatives. St. Veg is right next to the tanning salon I go to amongst many other stores such as My Eye Doctor, FedEx, and AT&T just to name a few. I've walked past about 100 times and each time I thought "Hmm, I should try that" but never did until recently. Upon entering, they have "Covid" arrangements meaning tables are blocking you from walking to the register. The lady who was working there (didn't catch her name) was very sweet and welcoming. There was only one other patron waiting for her meal to go. I didn't even get a chance to look at the menu in depth but mostly because had I, I probably would have opted for Chipotle hahaha. I decided on the "No Guilt Burger" which comes with a side of Tater Tots. I love me some tater tots lol. I also ordered a fresh iced lemonade. I was a little shocked when my total was $19.19. I'm not one who often checks prices (I should) or let's a price deter me from trying something new but for a "burger", tater tots and a drink that is pretty pricey in my opinion. I was a little annoyed that after I checked in I had an offer for a free beverage because I had already paid lol. I told myself it was fine because I'll come back another time to use it. I quickly read over what the "No Guilt Burger" was and I believe it was made from lentil beans. I'm not sure what I was expecting. The "burger" was tasty but the texture was interesting. I'm very much a texture person so normally I would not have liked this much but it was tolerable. The texture was very mushy. I looked at what it was made with after because I was genuinely confused. It makes sense after reading that it was made from beans. The outside of the burger was crispy but as soon as you bite in, mushy. It wasn't terrible though. The tater tots were good but a little salty for my liking. I don't know if it was the sea salt used or just overly salty. I'm not a huge salt person and in fact I usually ask for fries without salt. Mostly because I always end up with a stomach ache after. The lemonade was delicious. Wasn't too sour and wasn't too sweet. All in all, this place wasn't bad. I've always wanted to stop eating meat because I don't eat much of it anyways. Just chicken and very small amounts of red meat once in a blue moon. I'm not sure if I'd be brave enough to try something different on the menu but then again I was brave enough to try this lentil bean burger haha. I would say give it a try if you are in the area! I came with friends and everything we got was really tasty. I did think it was expensive, but I also didn't agree with the reviewer who thought it took multiple entrees to get full. Not only do they use fresh ingredients and have a wide variety of vegan eats on the menu, they also have a light and bright interior and very welcoming staff! I love that there is a vegetarian/vegan restaurant near me, as I am incorporating a more plant based diets in to my life. The restaurant is located in the Fallsgrove Shopping Center, it's at the end. Near Wingstop and Chipotle. Restaurant is very clean, bright, something I love in a restaurant. I was immediately greeted by a friendly face, I think it was the owner. On my first visit, I was just picking up lunch for all my co workers, and I got the apple and cauliflower tots, as a safe choice. I wasn't sure on what to get. So I went back to work, and was in awe. I ate my cauliflower tots and I loved how crispy and warm they were, the apple pie is damn near delectable. It's a must now for each time, I visit. It reminds me of McDonald's apple pie, from back in the days. Not that stuff that they call apple pie now. My co-workers loved, their Bahn mi, one had the burger which they said was ok. A few weeks ago, I went back, and ordered the spring rolls, I love the dipping sauce its tasty, however, when I took it home, I decided to save one of my rolls, and dip it in a thai peanut sauce. Mannnn that was soooo good. I have a few items on my list to try on my future visit. Mumbai burger is definitely looking good. So I'll probably have that next time. This is the second time I've been here, but I thought I should give a review where it is deserved. I don't come to the East Coast often, so I had to get as much of the dishes as I could to eat. St. Veg will be one of my go to places when I am in the area. The mini sunshine cakes were amazing. You get a hint of the turmeric flavor in the batter and the mix of textures in each bite. The crunchy shell and the soft middle. The signature sauce that comes with the dish provides a salty tangy flavor that brings out the robust flavors of the cake. The crispy rolls, cauliflower, and tater tots are surprisingly very crispy. Although it was fried, there isn't a taste of oiliness to it. IT was perfect. The filling in the rolls were not too mushy, that would make me sick. I could taste the sweetness of the cabbage and carrots. I've had the cauliflowers and tater tots twice now and it is still as good as I remembered it. The tater tots were flavored perfectly where you can eat it by itself, but also great with the ketchup and the spicy chutney. The sweetness of the sauces alongside the saltiness of the tots provide a good balances of flavors. If I wasn't so full, I would've eaten more. The Flavor Bomb pho dip was one of my favorites. The slow roasted portabella mushrooms has a good texture to it. Along with the house BBQ sauce and the bean sprouts and onion, it was bursting with flavor. I don't normally like to dip my sandwiches, so I took a sip of the broth on the side. The broth was not overly flavorful which helps to balance out the bursting flavors. The St. Veg Pho broth had a slight sweetness to it and was not overly salty which I do appreciate. I enjoyed the variety of vegetables that came with the pho along with the tofu. One of my favorite spots that I constantly crave. I'm vegetarian and it can be difficult to find veg-only spots in the area. My favorites are the shredded medley banh mi and the pho dip sandwich. I also really love the tater tots and crispy cauliflower bites. The shredded medley banh mi has fried bits of shredded tofu, and it balances perfectly with the pickled carrots and daikon and refreshing cucumbers. It's a decent size for $12.50. The bread is also nice and soft (it can get a bit soggy so I definitely recommend eating it right away). The pho dip sandwich is also very flavorful. The side of pho is honestly the best pho I've had (I never order veg pho because it's usually so bland). I love that it's naturally sweetened with apples. I prefer to just eat the sandwich and drink the pho by itself but to each his/her own. The veg loaf medley bowl was really tasty but I wish it had more veg loaf. :) I also prefer their sandwiches over bowls since I find there's usually more rice than veggies and I end up having leftover rice. Next time I'll have to try the veg loaf banh mi. The cauliflower bites are crispy and warm, and not too heavy on the batter. It pairs well with the golden sauce which is creamy and tangy. I also highly recommend their Mumbai burger if you like super spicy food! I loved the flavor but am a wimp when it comes to spice. Finally, definitely try the apple pie puff.
