Medley Loaf Combo Bowl November 29, 2025 IG: @pharmingfoodies
Joyce Y.

I've been coming to St. Veg since they opened, and its my go-to for vegan food in the area. Even though the ownership has changed, the menu is still the same as before. I've tried a lot of things on the menu, and bottom line is I still think their Medley Loaf Combo Bowl is the best entree. I wish there was more loaf! It's so good and has a salty deep umami flavor which goes perfectly well with the shredded medley and other goodies in the bowl. However, there was a bit too much rice and carrot in my opinion this time. Still thought it was pretty good. I also ordered the Japanese Katsu Curry Bowl. I've gotten this one before too and thought it was really good, but today I found the curry a little bland, and again, the rice-to-protein ratio was way off (too much rice). Probably won't get this again and stick to the Medley Loaf Combo.

photo of where i was sitting

The sandwich was good but the broth wasn't. The service was mediocre, nothing you wouldn't expect from a teenage worker, I didn't notice any gloves when handling our food so that threw me off a little bit. Along with the silence of the restaurant we heard faint tiktok audios or reels or whatever. Would i come here again, probably not but it was an experience for sure.

Apple pie. Oily.
Kelly M.

Short story first: oily, deep fried, no flavor, no authenticity, salty, expensive, oily. We were driving from Delaware to Virginia and went out of our way to give this a try. Over $45 later we wish we stayed on i95. We tried the Mumbai Burger with potato bun and tater tots, Japanese Katsu Curry Bowl, and threw in a baked apple pie for dessert. Now, to enjoy this place, you must love flavorless oily salty deep fried food. The katsu, burger patty, and tater tots were deep fried. The curry had no flavor. The rice wasn't Japanese style, it was more like Uncle Ben's. And the burger patty was spicy but flavorless. Hand-grated tater tots? Oily, salty, otherwise tasteless. We hoped the apple pie would save the meal. Nope. It tasted oily as well, so I was surprised to find out it was advertised as baked. I wasn't going to do a review until I learned we spent $45 on this atrocity of a meal. So the only reason we're posting is for other people who want to spend their money on fresh REAL food, not tasteless salty oily deep fried food. Thank you for offering a pretty vegan option for people who love flavorless deep fried food. Everyone else: stay away!

Thank goodness for St. Veg. No animal products. All vegan. Excellent dishes. Fast service. No fancy. Affordable.

Sadly the quality of food has gone down at St. Veg over the years. I used to be an avid long-time customer and enjoy making the trek from McLean. Mom's Caramel Tofu was disappointing, the tofu was really stiff and hard and the rice was very clumpy. The distribution of the ingredients was a bit off and seemed to be thrown together with the tofu, spinach, and rice. The Cauliflower Bites were soggy and thrown in a bag. The No Guilt Burger was very bland. The staff member grumpily greeted me and I seemed to bother her with my take-out order. I paid $50 for 2 subpar dishes, an app, and lavender iced tea.

I've been here a handful of times and it really does not disappoint. The tater tots are quite simply the best I've ever had- my husband and both kids agree. They are perfectly cooked- crunchy on the outside, impeccably seasoned and just delish! I got the Flavor Bomb with extra chimichurri sauce- it is perfectly umami and the mushrooms just melt in your mouth- the velvety mushrooms paired with a perfect baguette crunch and the pillowy center of the bread is one I'll come back for. Sadly, there was no Pho broth for dipping, but I don't know that it needs it. I'll let you know the next time I get it. The rest of the fam got the Katsu Bowl and a meatball sub. They would go back again, but go for something different next time. My vegetarian son wants the Flavor Bomb, and my other kiddo was intrigued too. We'll be back soon.

Caramelized tofu

My husband and I are always on the lookout for a good vegetarian place. This was our first time here and he got the mumbai burger and I got the caramelized tofu with pickled vegetables. Both were really good the Mumbai Burger had just the right amount of Indian spices and the tater tots it came with were nice and crispy. The burger has hot spices too, so be prepared for a little burn. Overall it's a nice "fast food" treat. The tofu was a lot of food I ended up taking half home. The pickled veges and tofu went really well together. I'd definitely get it again. We also got the hot lavender and the lavender lemonade. They were ok, I make this at home sometimes and I feel like mine is a little better so I don't think I'd get drinks again.

Flavor Bomb Pho Dip Sandwich

I have been visiting St Veg for more than a year and I am amazed with how the quality is so consistent. It had been awhile since I enjoyed the Flavor Bomb Pho Dip Sandwich, and after the first bite I was flooded with memories of my first visit to St Veg and why I love this business so much. The service at St Veg is great! You are always greeted with warmth and for fresh made food it comes out pretty fast! St Veg takes no short cuts. Their burger patties, baguettes, tater tots, and proteins are all made in-house. While on the surface this business has a fast causal vibe, the effort put in behind the scenes is tremendous and I am impressed with how efficiently this business runs. Over the years my most purchased meals are for sure the Flavor Bomb Sandwich, Vegloaf Bowl, and the Katsu Curry Bowl. On a "treat yo self" day I get the mushroom BBQ burger because it comes with tots which are too good to not eat all in one sitting. I cannot be trusted with that side by myself. When I go to St Veg in the afternoon I get their coffee because the cashew milk they make from scratch is the best nondairy milk of all time. It makes their coffee taste so heavenly. When I am staying off the caffeine their lavender tea is something I get every visit. It has so much flavor and is the perfect refreshment any time of the year. St Veg always has plenty of seating to accomadate a solo outing or even a large group. I host a vegan meetup monthly and we have packed 20 hungry vegans in without disturbing the normal flow of customers. I am so happy St Veg exists for the vegan community and any nonvegans wanting to try a vegan meal. The food is excellent, service is way above average, and this local business is truly a gem.

9.5.23

9.5.23 I am generally a carnivore and stay away from veggies, but my friend suggested this establishment so I gave it a try. I was pleasantly surprised that I enjoyed my Shredded Medley banh mi which had tofu, jicama, sweet potato, bean threads, pickled daikon and carrots, cucumber slices, and cilantro. If I didn't know what was in it, I would have thought meat was in there, it was that good and deceptive. The fresh lemonade didn't taste fresh to me and I had to ask for sugar. Orders are placed at one of the two kiosks, however, staff is available for assistance, which I had to ask for. The restaurant was recognized as Best Vegan Restaurant by Bethesda Magazine in January 2022. Go check them out and see if you agree.

Ask the Community - St. Veg

Are desserts offered here?

Yes! We have fresh baked cookies that are made with organic coconut sugar. More desserts coming soon!

I live in Frederick County and am excited to learn about this new vegan place in my neighbor county. What is the parking situation at St. Veg?

You can find parking here but it does tend to be a busy lot especially at lunch. If you park towards the back and where Safeway is that part of this lot usually has more space

Where can I see your menu?

Got the vegan black bean quesadilla and mixed berry muffin. At 99 cents each, the muffin is a great price. It looks and tastes homemade, and not as sweet and "cakey" as other commercial bakery muffins. It was moist with sweetness from mostly the blueberries and cranberries (nothing dried, all fresh). Loved it and will buy again. The quesadilla was made to go on a hot skillet. The tortilla was perfectly toasted and crispy. It was stuffed with vegan cheese, black beans, mushrooms, tomatoes and corn. The beans were seasoned well (chipotle) and the vegan cheese and veggies complemented perfectly. Came with also a side portion of spicy crema sauce which added a kick to the dish. Staff was polite, food is great! Will continue supporting these businesses!

Back then the food quantity and the service were top notch-great service with a smile and good quantity portion size. Since then, everything has gone downhill and this place is hit or miss depending on who makes your food, not to mention that anything worth having or anything that is not a cheap item has been removed from the menu (ex: hearts of palm, and now even the popular jackfruit tacos!) Only the cheapest ingredients left behind such as beans, chickpeas, onions, cilantro so they can major profit more and more. The menu has become boring to everyone I know with no exciting new items but just the same old and taking away certain items that the customers love. (Other Moms locations I go to switch up their menus with yummy offerings that Ive never seen offered at this location) Their prices have also gone up quite a couple of times since before covid and on top of that their portion sizes have lessened by more than 50% and still they get stingy only at this location when scooping the scoops always shaking the spoon to lessen the portion of each scoop and still finding sneaky ways to raise the prices more or take away anything that might cost more. Ive also noticed they only hire Hispanics now which I don't care but they definitely do not give service with a smile and half the time they don't understand what you are asking for and get rude if you sub or ask for something that might require a change. I am Spanish so of course I understand the language and alot of times they talk bad or whisper to each other right in front of me when you are undecided or make changes to the menu items. In my opinion, a different manager is needed that values customer service as the current manager is rude and does not like when you ask for substitutions and very stingy as well with portion sizes. Back in the day if i wanted half a scoop of one topping and half of another on my tacos it was ok, not anymore. A lot of people who don't come here often rate good as a good lunch spot but when you come here consistency, you start to see the flaws and lack of service,

Butter chicken Daal (lentils) Veggie biryani Chickpea masala We should've expected it, but we also received a ton of basmati rice, and got the lemon cardamom and eggnog tres leches churro cakes. Every single item was a 10/10, honestly. The butter chicken was so creamy and cashew based, and was easily my favorite item, though everything was fantastic. This might be the best Indian food in Maryland... I'm not shy to say that given how much I've had (though there is still plenty more to try). Applause. The pita and falafel balls were both sumptuously soft and fluffy -- so much better than so many other pita breads and falafels around ... not to mention that culturally speaking, there is no place like it and I just felt so comfortable here. So one random week I decided to contact them just to inquire about their prices, flavors and such (I found this info on their website). They actually didn't respond until over a week later, and I realized it was because they were out of the country! So they let me know when they would be returning and so I contacted them again then. By some insane twist of fate, the day they said to contact them also happened to be National Donut Day -- obviously a sign. It turns out they don't have delivery right now (probably because they just returned?) so I had to arrange a pickup. They're $4 a pop, so I decided to just get half a dozen: Cinnamon Sugar Chocolate Oreo Mango Pistachio Rose Raspberry Pina Colada I arrived at the house, waited a few minutes, and the man came to the door with the donut box in hand. The hummus is very good. The babaganoush is very smokey. The falafel are the best I have found other than the world famous Maoz, I just wish they were bigger so they would stay hot and moist longer. T. $6 for 5 doesn't feel right when I could eat 20 of them so unfortunately I won't be ordering them again. The falafel are clearly labeled vegan and gluten free, as are many other items. The sauces are very good and they squirt them from bottles that dispense a generous amount. The meat unfortunately does not come right off the spit but is held in a metal bin like chipotle so they can keep the line moving, but you can see the 3 giant spits roasting away in the back. The last thing I love about this place is that you get something you simply can not make at home. Even if you make shawarma style chicken and have rice and greens, there's no way you're making hummus and babaganoush and all the sauces and then you'd also have to buy 20 ingredients for the toppings... It's the same idea as chipotle or if you know Cava, it's more like that. The price starts at $12.99 and the only thing that raises the price is if you get lamb or steak or double meat. All toppings are included. It's worth mentioning again, the hummus is very good, perhaps the best I've ever had. Not only great flavor but it's the creamiest smoothest hummus.

This flavor profile emphasized the juicy, slow roasted flavor of the chicken, with parsley salad adding sharp herbal notes and the garlic sauce adding creamy richness. The supreme chicken shawarma had saj bread, chicken, hummus, lettuce, tomatoes, pickled red cabbage, pickles, and garlic sauce. I added spicy harissa and diced onions to it at no additional cost.
