The fresh fruit and amount of fruit toppings is the best here. Quick and friendly you order at the store window counter and they have some benches outside, they give you a plate to eat on since they stack the fruit. The coconut sherbert mix was surprisingly good. A few parking spots in the plaza or street parking. Prices are fair for the fruit they load on top. Three sizes, we got the small.
The mini bowl is amazing! The perfect size for a single serving. Service is fast and ambiance is good. Can't wait to go back for more!
Overall I had a good experience but the acai was not to our liking/tasting The staff was friendly and very nice! I definitely think it's a great place to try if you like acai bowls, many people around us expressed positive reviews For us, we got a mini & small bowl (total $35 including tip). Tried the acai & pitaya base & got to try all the fruits. They STACK it which is really nice and fruits are fresh. Also love how they give you a plate, that's very considerate! We just didn't prefer the taste of the acai base. To us it had an aftertaste we didn't prefer. It kind of reminded me of a freezer taste that linger. I didn't taste it in the pitaya though
Going to Northside Shack a couple Sundays a month to pick up a bowl to enjoy over at Shelter Island used to be part of my morning routine. When they closed, I was hopeful that something good would take its place. Today was the day that I ordered online at Surf Bowl Co. to make the process simpler & faster (haha...joke's one me.) and I arrived at 11am to pick up my order. See the orders as I placed them below: $14.00 Mini açaí Pitaya Banana Blueberry Blackberry Raspberry Pineapple Mango ALL TOPPINGS $14.00 Mini açaí Pitaya Banana Strawberry Blueberry Raspberry Pineapple Mango Granola (GF) Chia Seeds Honey I took my order home, and noted that one bowl was correct, while the other bowl was very incorrect. See photo. I called them up, and they said, "Sorry, it was an honest mistake," I was somewhat peeved by this point, but I told them that I would return to pick up the correct bowl which basically negated the whole "saving time with on-line ordering" situation. When I arrived, a young male employee handed me the "correct" bowl, and mildly apologized. I returned the incorrect bowl to him as well. The replacement bowl was still not correct because it had strawberries on it, and was not half pitaya and half açaí, but at this point, I was not going back a third time. At least there were no offending grapes on either of our bowls as requested. So the bowls.... were they even spectacular? Nope. They were okay. The pineapple pieces were too big for the bowl, and they included part of the core, which should have been cut off. The other fruit was fine, and the mango was the best on these bowls for sure. Northside's bowls were really well-made and pretty to look at, but these unfortunate bowls were haphazardly slapped together. Ambiance wise, there really isn't any, because you either just order with someone there from the window, or online. There are a couple of benches to sit on in the shared walkway, and a handful of parking spaces that are shared with the other businesses in the little strip mall including a smoke shop and a massage place. No tables or customer restroom on site. Will I come back? I really don't know. On a hot day in the summer, I may pop over and give them another try, but this experience was underwhelming to say the least. I hope they'll try to do better in the future, or at least, if they make a mistake, make up for it in a more sincere manner. Peace.
Brought to you by the owners of what was the iconic Northside Shack! With a new location and a new name, they're scooping up the same stacked acai bowls we all know and love. You can choose from their bases: Acai, Pitaya, and Coconut. My faves are pitaya and coconut! They have a looonnggg list of toppings that you can choose from. Countless fruits, nuts, seeds, and more! Super customizable and everything is amazingly fresh. Any butters are extra. I'm only docking a star due to the frequent errors made by the team. The party in front of us as well as some people in our party had to keep going back to the counter to ask for missing toppings or due assembly errors. Just a few kinks here and there.
An uber popular "shack" that peddled acai bowls was the former tenant of this Point Loma suite. That small local chain has been replaced by Surf Bowl at this location. There were only four parking spaces out front shared by multiple businesses like a barber shop and smoke shop. I found a nearby curbside spot and walked over where there was a line of at least six customers waiting for their order. The inside of the suite was entirely dedicated to the kitchen preparation area. Surf Bowl was essentially a service window where you order and then wait for your takeout bag. A menu sheet was posted in the lower right corner of the window. The smart approach was to place an online order ahead of time so all you have to do is stop by and pick up your item(s). Bowls were sold in three sizes... small, medium, and large. Five different bases were available and then you could add as many of the fruit and dry toppings as you desired. Extras were available at two to three dollars apiece. I picked a small bowl with hot oatmeal and agave as the base. All nine of the fruit toppings were added along with crushed almonds. It took about 15 minutes before my bowl was ready. The bowl was covered with saran plastic wrap to keep the heaping contents from spilling. The fruits were a fresh medley of flavors that made the oatmeal much easier to consume. Seventeen dollars for a small bowl seemed kind of high, but you were getting a high quality product. The biggest deterrent was finding parking, otherwise I would come back more frequently.
Love the fruit options and how generous the portion is. I ordered ahead online and got a mini size. The açaí bowl was delicious with fresh and perfectly ripe fruits pilled up on top. This is a to-go place only with a bench outside and a small parking lot. I recommend ordering online ahead to skip the line and long wait. The staff were super friendly.
One of the best açaí bowls I've had! Appreciate the ability to customize your bowl and really enjoyed how fresh tasting each of the fruits were! Overall very good flavor- Definitely recommend trying out SurfBowl Co l!

My order was made for me and included fresh ginger and fresh squeezed lemons too! Same impeccable service and enthusiasm for the food! Walk up window for pickup and they are already busy so order online to pick up!! We are so happy that they are back in our zip code!!!
I have briefly contemplated selling a kidney if needed - just to fund my smoothie needs from this place. Yes. It is that good. On the pricier side , but so worth it. You're worth it! So stop reading and go already. Your mind, body, and soul will thank you. Also, staff is always super nice and the product is as fresh as you can get.
the portions are huge here! we did online order and had no issues picking it up. i love the amount of fruit and variety they had and how customizable it is. it's close to the beach as well so it's the perfect way to start your day in San Diego!
I haven't had an acai bowl in three years, and Surf Bowl is a helluva way to break that streak. My friend brought me here on what I later learned was their grand re-opening weekend, and even though we went right around opening, it was already quite busy. Surf Bowl is a tiny shop in a tinier strip mall. There is a small row of parking spots but they were all full, and we needed to park in the surrounding streets. We pre-ordered and it took about 25 minutes for our order to be ready. I ordered a large, since it was only $3 more than a small, but almost double the size. I got it with the acai and pitaya bases, and basically all the fruit and misc. toppings. My bowl was HEFTY. Piled to overflowing and aggressively cling-wrapped into submission for the commute home. I appreciate that they included paper plates to move some of the toppings off to facilitate ease of acai access. I could hardly wait to get through my front door before tearing into my acai bowl, and man was it satisfying. I am almost positive they use the Nature's Path pumpkin seed + flax granola, as it is one of my favorites and I could identify it on first crunch. The bowl was packed with sooooo many fruits and they were almost all excellent. The standout was definitely the strawberries, they were so sweet, flavorful, and juicy I didn't really enjoy the pineapple. I feel like it was cut into overly long spears and the pieces I got tasted like they were in or around the more fibrotic core, very tough and not terribly sweet. The acai base was delicious, not too sweet on its own with a definite earthiness that grounded the bowl. The pitaya base definitely tasted like dragonfruit, but I did not like it as much as the acai personally. I ate half the bowl in one sitting and blended the rest into a smoothie with a smear of peanut butter, and it was almost more delicious the second day. I was initially shocked by the $20 price tag on my bowl, but in retrospect, given the cost of a real-fruit these days, it is not an unreasonable price. The bowl I had here has spurred me to start searching for acai at grocery stores to make more bowls of my own.
SO good! Kind of expensive, but worth what you're paying for. The Acai is super thick & they give you a TON of fruit on top. Basically no seating outside other than a bench. There is parking right out front though that was very open when we got there. Ambiance is fine, definitely just a grab and go place. Service was very kind and quick. Small amount of parking directly in front, but will mostly have to try to find street parking (which is difficult). This is more of a grab and go spot. They do have some bench seating outside. Order at the register and they will call out your name. It is super full so they Saran Wrap the top and give you a plate. For the bowl, you pick your size, base and then decide if you want all or only some of the toppings. They have lots of people working and it was ready quickly. I got a mini açaí $14. I wish they put the chia seeds on the açaí and not on the fruit. The mango seemed slightly unripe. Rest of the fruit was good. Açaí was good, very cold even after the drive home. read more
I'm so happy that my favorite açaí bowl place in San Diego has re-opened as Surf Bowl Co! It is a small family owned business and is now run by the original owner's son. You get to build your own bowl by choosing between their açaí, pitaya, and coconut bases (you can mix and match all 3 bases if you wish, they're all delicious) and then choose your toppings! Their fruits are all so sweet and fresh, and they definitely load them onto your bowl- so much so that they give you an extra plate to put your toppings on so you can enjoy the whole bowl! In my opinion, the toppings are the best part of any açaí bowl, so no other place compares. The storefront is a small hidden shack in Point Loma, and the staff are always super friendly and kind. They have some parking spaces in front and a couple benches outside to eat at. My favorite option is to take the bowls to eat at Sunset Cliffs, which is just a 6 minute drive away! Would definitely recommend checking this place out. read more

This is the highest quality fruit/acai bowls in the county. If you were a fan of Northside shack before it closed down this place is almost exactly the same. You truly can't come close to the quality of ingredients and the amount of food that this place provides. The only issue is you do pay for that quality with acai bowls 1/4 - 1/3 more than other places. There isn't much seating but miles of Bayside parks are a 3 minute drive away. read more
The best Acai Bowl! Glad that the are back with the same style and generous variety if fruits. The acai sorbet has the perfect sweetness and creaminess. I love the standard mango, kiwi, blueberries, blackberries, strawberries and coconut flakes. It's my meal sometimes aside from a desert. This is my regular stop for Acail Bowls. It's great that I can order online so I don't have to wait in line. read more
Absolutely my favorite acai place in SD by a long shot and so so so glad they're back!! You can customize your bowl however you want with 3 different base options of acai, pitaya, and coconut and then so many toppings in terms of fruit and granola, chia seeds, honey, etc. The portion sizes are so good, I personally always get the large size. They give you plates as well because they pack the bowl so full of toppings, this helps you catch everything you drop or share with a friend! There's some bench seating around the store if you want to eat there. They also have their online order system built out super nicely with text updates, so I recommend that if you're driving from a distance anyways. The parking lot is a little tight right in front of the store itself but can definitely circle around for street parking. read more

No açaí spot compares to Surf Bowl- seriously!! There's a reason it's always busy. The bowls are loaded, the fruit is always insanely fresh, & they don't skimp on any of the toppings. The employees are always so kind, and the whole place has such a chill, welcoming vibe. Anytime I have friends visiting, this is always a must-stop, even if it means going out of our way. So happy to have found a gem with such a sweet staff team!! read more

I love this place! The service was great and quick, despite the employees being busy with online and in person orders. The nice young man who took our order was very patient with my family and I as I ordered my bowl with many different toppings and fruits. As well as just being an overall cool and helpful guy. As for the bowl, it was amazing! It was filled to the max with fruit as seen in the photos. The Acai and pitaya were also perfectly sweet and had a great smooth texture. Definitely NOT ICY! The woman who prepared my bowl did not leave out a single topping and put a healthy amount of every one (which I appreciated because they cost extra). The one thing will say is that there is nowhere to really sit or enjoy your bowl at the actual location. You basically go up and to the window and can only place your order to-go. HOWEVER, it is just down the street from the water and on a warm, sunny, and beautiful day like today, the perfect place to enjoy your visually and tastefully stunning bowl is near the beautiful blue ocean. I cannot recommend this place enough! read more
