Disappointing. I got fish and chips and also food poisoning. Our service was not the best but the labor shortage is lowering the standard anyhow. I likely will not return. The menu seems promising but the execution of dishes and the fact I was served old, dry, frozen fish is not ok. read more

A great addition to the Village! We attended the opening event and had a really great experience. Our table ordered the Caesar Salad, Chicken and the Egg Sandwich, Burger and Blackened Cod Sandwich. Everyone was really happy with their dishes! The only complaint was a lack of seasoning on the burger. We also shared the Chips and Salsa. It was nothing fancy but it was delicious! The service was great. Our server Taryn was attentive, warm, and informative without being intrusive. Bonus feature, you get POPCORN on your table. A delicious salty start. This was my first time at roots, I like the place although it can be a little tight. I had the chick and the egg, which was surprisingly better than I expected. I wish there was more egg salad on the sandwich, but the sandwich was delicious! So I placed a door dash order on 8/19 and after 30 mins door dash says can't find a dasher. I call the restaurant so they don't waste food, they say that's okay for me to pick it up. I've not been in Indiana very long so I'm like .2 mi away and can't find it in whatever strip mall they're in. I call & ask and they say oh I'm talking to the wrong person they have no clue how to give me directions but wait now it's been 45 minutes and they say they never received my order from doordash. You kidding me waste if gas at $4.15/ gal. I turn around and go home what a complete waste of time and terrible people to not help someone new to Indiana. Awful restaurant. read more

Pretty average... our waitress was very prompt, helpful and had good energy. There seamed to be plenty of help... it was a Tuesday night... We had burgers, cool brand on top bun, bottom bun was hard. Burger had good taste, but over cooked. I had fries, they were good, steak fries that were battered... son had tots... crispy outside, tasteless though. Price wasn't bad, menu had lots of options... Really disappointing follow up to Scotty's. Food is mediocre AT BEST and service is incredibly slow and poor. We had the buffalo cauliflower and the "pint o'bacon" for appetizers. Bacon was very good! Cauliflower was just fried cauliflower drown in buffalo wing sauce. Ordered the grilled cheese, two different types of burgers and the tenderloin. The grilled cheese was two stale pieces of bread two kraft singles barley melted enough to hold onto the bread. The burgers were small and not much above fast food grade. The tenderloin is an embarrassment to the state sandwich of Indiana! To top it off our server just plopped the check down and didn't even ask if we wanted dessert. Given our experience to that point she was doing us a favor! Save your time and money and go to one of the other vastly superior dining choices in Muncie. read more

I wanted to spend just a few more minutes with my boy before dropping him off for Spring Semester, so we ventured to Roots for a late lunch. I reviewed the options and thought a coney dog looked pretty good. Since we don't have many places that serve a coney in Indiana I was kind of excited, however to add cheese (2 tablespoons, and that is being generous) was an extra 2 bucks!! Yes you read that right, 2 dollar upcharge for cheese. Whatever, I wanted the cheese so..... My son ordered a plain burger and it is pretty tough to screw that up so his meal was fine. Mine arrives and my "Coney" was cold sloppy Joe meat on top of a pretty decent dog and delicious bread but wasn't ANYTHING that resembled a "CONEY" dog. So I basically spent 10 bucks for a dog that could have been amazing, if they didn't misrepresent and had actually put coney sauce on my dog..... The other let down was the fry sauce. It was watered down thin honey mustard..... I dunno if I would go back, it wasn't anything to recommend that is for sure..... oh and the waitress was more interested in her conversation with a friend at another table..... she didn't even give me the chance to reorder my food warmed up, didn't offer dessert and basically just did a drive by drop off of the check....... Skip this place and go get a pizza .... Camacks couldn't open back up soon enough! read more

We went to the Root for lunch following an appointment. I had jumped online and reviewed restaurants in the area and thought the Root would satisfy our party. The service was okay as the waitstaff was busy visiting other patrons. We waited a while to order our food. Once the food arrived, we checked the order to ensure it was correct. It was. However, my Dad's fish was over battered which compensated for the lack of fish. The problem with that however is that if you enjoy fish, you'd like to taste the filet and have the breading enhance it. The other issue was the price. Since the restaurant was close to BSU campus, the pricing is high and the food did not justify the cost. This is one restaurant that I can say I went. I tried. Now, I have retired this restaurant from my "Must Return Restaurant List" as there was nothing about our dining experience that would entice me to return to this eatery. read more

Four of us were in town for a Ball State FB game. We found Roots Burger bar in the BSU Village area. I give the owners an A for accomplishing what the they set out to do. It is a burger joint with a small selection of creative appetizers, salads and sides. Great atmosphere. Liked the beer and wine selections, and our waitress Megan was fantastic. She was informative, attentive, and had a great disposition (considering it was super busy night there) and the owners better not let her get away. The guys had: fried baloney sandwich and a patty melt, and loved them. We girls had single burgers and shared the cauliflower salad. Great combo. We had to ask for more of the balsamic dressing though, (something I've never had to do elsewhere). I noticed there is a 10 oz sirloin steak on the menu and I would suggest that they add a baked potato option for that. Looking forward to a return visit. read more

I've been to Roots Burger Bar in Muncie twice. Both times and boyfriend and I ordered the Pint O'Bacon. Both times the bacon came out BLACK and inedible. When we called the server over to discuss the issue, she offered to get us another order, but of course they were out of bacon?? So she asked if she could get us anything else instead and proceeded to charge us for getting something else because what we wanted was burned and then some how out. For those that aren't aware, the owner of Roots is Scott Wise, the founder of Scotty's restaurants before he sold the business and it went bankrupt under the new company. Anyways, the food here is nice. Burger joint with some other American classics like tenderloins, etc. Fries and tots. A special dipping sauce. Alcoholic Drinks. Food specials. Free popcorn. Decor is pretty much the same as when it was Scotty's. Some minor updates. Prices are reasonable. I come here every now and then. Being over 200 miles froM home and wanted a non chain place this hit the spot . Got a triple southern pride burger with grilled onions and provolone. Should have gotten the double instead. Too much meat for me. Like the check in for yelp but if your not going to be here on Monday's to use it because your going to be in the area. Doesn't help. And they don't have plan B for that. So that's a small negative. Sat at the Megan was ok the other bartender put napkins down for people sitting next she didn't . The bar wasn't set up to make margaritas and they complain about it. And didn't want to make them. Your in the service industry if someone wants a car bomb make it. The bar Mats where set up wrong with the advertisement towards the bartender not the customers. It's my understanding that there made to sell there products not for me to guess what it is. (Observation) all in all good food I would come here again. The value you get is good.
